Your top 10.... - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

I have just purchased an SPV M1000 and was wondering what extras an experienced user would purchase/download?
I will use the device for business (I'm in sales), diary management, meeting notes etc
Will also use for pleasure, pictures, games etc
I'm looking at TT3 and carkit with GPS to kick off but hard to know what to buy as all the posts recommend different kit!
My budget is modest as have 1st baby on the way and (more) gadgets might be frowned upon!!!
Many thanks in advance.
Javahart

about download then i guess you mean software what software an exp user would download would depend on what the user was using the device for i mean a doctor would use different software then a gym instructer and....
software are soo plentyfull and for different ranges of users so i guess it would be the same asking the same thing just about pc software
about hardware then many people get gps or headset's or backpacks with cf and tvout / monitor out
again after what needs those users have

I currently have the following on mine, maybe you'll find some of it interesting.. Maybe not
- SPB Pocket Plus (Powerful Today screen mod to make things easier to access)
- OmegaOne Journal (News Weather Today Screen Plugin)
- PocketZenPhone (Multi-Profile Phone manager - an essential for many people)
- Pocket BlueTooth Tools (a small util to give better blue tooth functionality - I use it so my buttons work on my BT Headset but its a little buggy right now)
- Total Commander (poweful replacement for File Explorer)
- PHM Registry Editor (a... um... registry editor)
- TomTom Navigator 3 (Sat Nav Route finder - Requires a hardware GPS)
- Postcode Finder (type any FULL UK postcode in and up it comes in tomtom - very handy for reps etc, not that I am one
- CheckPOInt (Speed Camera warning plugin for TomTom)
- Extrom Tools (Extended rom unlocker so you can change the ROM profile in case of hard resets in the field)
And...
- Hexacto Tennis - I'm somewhat addicted....
Hope that helps.

The top 10 3rd-party apps on my XDA II:
Agenda Fusion
tAgenda
Pocket Plus
PocketZenPhone
PocketBible
Total Commander
Acrobat Reader
CHM Reader
eWallet
PHM Registry Editor

Thanks guys
I will do a search for those applications mentioned.
I have ordered a tomtom gps unit and have a friend with tt3 who can let me borrow it for a while (ahem  ).
The Brodit cradle looks the best for the car as fits onto the proclip which I already have installed from my Snooper system (which can now be sold)

Java, your friends version of tomtom wont work with your pda, the code that you enter to activate will work on one pda only.

I can really say I benefit from both a BT headset (in the office being able to look at the device and making calls, without the hassle of wires) (BTH-808 eur 40 on ebay) and a carkit (I use the XDAII carkit, 140 euro, but the MDAII carkit from T-Moble seems to be much better, currently at a reasonable price of eur 180 on different german webshops like telefon.de and telido.de)
Next to this I use a BT GPS receiver (normally quite expensive, bought mine on ebay for euro 100), permanently owered on 12V. A wired receiver will do too (cheaper), but: wait until first fix, wire spaghetty on dashboard.
You definitely need a SD card. Buy a BIG one with HIGH speed, especially with TomTom.
Of course dont forget TomTom Navigator
And a protective case: Proporta clear case is very nice (always see who is calling!)
To distinguish between private & business calls I use a dual sim adapter (ebay, King of double card type MAI E, 10 euro)
Other useful software:
Backupmanager (sunnysoft)
Mamaich Phone extension software (easy to use contacts for in-car use while driving, search this forum)
Dont forget to get the latest ROM upgrade when you want to use Bluetooth (1.72.00WWE)
Hopefully i dd not forget anything

As to hardware I use an integrated car kit with GPS I purchased from Thailand (photos in another thread under car kits).
I also use the Logitec BT headset for hand free when I want to (apart from in the car as the car kit does that now).

heh thats some list

Thanks
Jeez Ednap, that is an impressive list!!
I now have TT3 up and running (bought TT gps unit for £70) and got cheap brodit passive cable for £20. Only snag is the spaggeti loops round the ciggarete lighter!! I have tried a few bits of freeware but appeared to have an adverse effect on performance so have binned most for now.
Thanks for everybody's help so far.

IMPORTANT: Full featured AV Solution for PDA ?

What do you think about a full featured AV Solution for Pocket PC's ?
I ask that question to build up different installation packages.
There are many things which have to been considered, for instance that a real time protection would use a lot of battery or that a huge database would use a lot of memory.
So please provide me with your input and thoughts, wishes and requirements. The result will be a free solution with a outstanding detection rate. ( It's already under development and works so far for all platforms including Palm, Windows Mobile 2002, 2003 etc )
Some features (already under development)
* Pocket Outlook Attachments Scanning (in and outgoing)
* Dialer and Worm/Trojan Heuristic especially for PDA's
* Beam-Realtime Scan ( if you get or send new files )
* In-Craddle-Realtime Scan ( cause battery is there no problem )
* PIE Realtime Scan for downloading files
* On-Demand Scan for the whole PDA (including all Storage Cards)
* On-Demand Scan for the Storage Cards
* Autoinstall Option via Beam on other Devices
* Unpacking Engine for Windows 32 Malware ( CAB, ZIP, RAR, UPX, ASPack, FSG, ASProtect, Petite, Neolight, PECompact etc.)
* Polymorph Engine for Windows 32 Malware
* Incremental Updates downloadable within GPRS or via ActiveSync
* Logfile Support
* WLAN scanning on shares in a network environment
* Scan Sheduler
* Today Screen Plugin with infos
Now it's up to you 8)
Cheers,
Scorpion
Sounds good ... how much and when?
How much ? - its free - its not even limited
When ? - i think at the end of this month
Right now i am developing the interface, all other things are almost ready.
Should i post some screenshots from time to time during development ?
Cheers,
Scorpion
AV
Sounds great. Yes to screen shots.
Thanks.
calli
But i think it would make sense if it checks at least for the win32 things.
I dont know how many people using the XDA II for mobile emails ( at least i do ) and therfore i think it would be a good idea if it is be able to scan and to detect also Win32 Worms etc. in the attachments after marking for download.
Maybe i could split that into a basic install ( only for PDA ) and a extended database for all win32 malware. The extended database will be around 3 or 4 MB; that is not that much. Overall i calculated around 6 MB for all features.
Cheers,
Scorpion
sounds excellent, can't wait to see more
Right now reorganizing the interface with tabulators, but here is the splashscreen that you can see atleast something 8)
eeugh. uuuuugly splash

SketchIT v1.0 launched!

Ladies and Gentlemen,
„Pocket OOZ“has just released their newest creation called „SketchIt“.
Sketch IT is a notes organizer for the "Today"-screen of your Microsoft Windows CE device. Taking notes has to be as accessible as possible but taking electrical notes is very slow as it's not just taking a pen and a paper, you have to go through a number of menus and dialogs before you can start taking notes.
This has finally changed with Sketch IT, now you can just take your pen and your pda out of your pocket and start writing! Whether it's writing down numbers, drawing pictures, playing games- everything is possible, on your "Today"-screen.
URL: www.cell-profiler.de/sketchit
Features
The e-Ink engine which provides the application with a blazing fast drawing engine, even on the "Today"-screen of your device. The application itself is only 32kb, it has been designed to keep the system running stable with no lags or workflow brakes.
But the applications features are not limited by the size;
• "powered by eInk" - allows fast writing directly to the today screen or on one of the many virtual sheets.
• Customize it! Design your own background and use them as your virtual sheet.
• Perfect work flow! Accessible when you need it, no need to push any buttons or perform any other tasks. Turn your device on and you are ready to take notes.
• Big when you need it big. Small when you need it small. Change the size of the "Today"-plugin instantly. No need to go through time consuming dialogs.
• 9 different pen colors and 7 different pen sizes make your notes readable anytime.
• Saving? Yes, but quick - save your notes with one click, no need to go through any dialogs. Just click the save button to save your current sheet.
• Unlimited Undo'ing, even if you have saved your work, you can undo anytime.
• The "Lock Sheet" feature prevents accidental drawing to your note, you can enable this and most other features without going through any dialog .
• Change the size of the plugin, sheets up to 640 pixels height on your "Today"-screen are supported.
You are welcome to write a small review for SketchIt if you are a news-author for a pocketpc site, you will receive the registered version of SketchIt for this purpose – and ofcourse you can keep it once you have published the review. If you are interested, just send an email to support(at)cell-profiler.de.
But there are even more news, Cell Profiler, our other product has been rewritten, improved and is currently being tested as V2 by our Q&A team. It is packed with new features, a today plugin that shows your current area, your operator, your phone number, the cell and the LAC on the today screen, the quickprofiles which allow you to do instant profile switches, a cellmap to visualize the actual network, a new userinterface and much much more.
Expect Cell Profiler v2 to hit the streets this or early next month.
If you are interested in previewing Cell Profiler v2, feel free to send an email to support(at)cell-profiler.de and we would be happy to send you the latest beta of CP v2 for re- and previewing purposes.

Looking for testers??
sorry... but both apps have already been tested, but you are welcome to test the demo version
Would you be willing to speak with another developer to help him with the operability of his app with yours? I purchased SketchIt 1.0 and I like it very much. However, there have been users attempting to use it with a program plug-in for WisBar Advanced 2 (WA2). WA2 is a skinnable task manager for the Pocket PC.
The Plug-in is WisBar Advanced Desktop (WAD). The developer is Chris McKay. WAD provides the users the ability to design their Today Screen anyway they can imagine.
I have been having some trouble getting SketchIt to work with the plug-in and I was hoping you and Chris could talk to identify and work to have the two apps work together.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
crashdau
I like notestoday. Does this have better features?
V
I think it takes the writing quicker and cleaner.

A couple of queries

I got a new xda orbit (WM6) at the end of August, and am delighted with it. There are a couple of minor niggles, and I am wondering if anyone can help?
1)I cannot find a way of finding out how much space is available on my storage card. The properties in File Explorer, Active Sync and even Total Commander all gave a zero value for the card, which I know isn't true, coz I've lots of stuff on the card and am using it, and the individual files are displayed!! Perhaps there is a freeware replacement for file explorer that would do the job, but it would also be nice if it could cut and paste, which was why I installed TC. Taking the card out and putting it in a card reader is a no-no, given its position behind the sim card, as you all know!
2)Are there any walkers out there(not car drivers) -esp. in UK, who have actually tried some of the gps freeware on a walk? There seems to be a few around and wondering which is best. All I want is a latitude/longitude and/or grid ref. though maps would be nice!
For info, I've been expirementing with various bits of software, available on the internet, and can recommend the following - No Data(to prevent the orbit using a chargable data service, when you are in a free wireless internet area) Flashkeys-touch screen keyboard, cut and paste to documents Boxworld and Freecell (Board Games) Alarm Clock (yes, its just called that, by GreenSoftware) Acrobat Reader, Conversion (by Mammoth Software) Magic Button (to make sure programs close) VSPAinterLE, Plamp and Pocket Flashy (find your tent and your friends in the dark at festivals!) I'm still testing Alreader which came highly recommended(you need to look hard for the English version, but the Russian one works a treat and the basics don't need translation)

PR: ageet releases the new AGEphone Mobile 2 Softphone for Windows Mobile Devices

Hey everybody! I've been around in the community for quite a while now and today I've got something for you if you have been looking for a decent Windows Mobile Softphone for a while now and have given up on the ones out there... cause what were your alternatives?
Fring: Nice protocol support, but only one VoIP provider and Frankenstein GUI... hardly a softphone.
SJphone: In beta for like... 2 years now? The company is gone and so is all hope of seeing a version that you can actually use without feeling a major pain in the...
Skype Mobile: Not much need to even start about them, but apart from not supporting SIP it's slooow, sloooow... and did I mention slow? Probably one of the most half assed desktop ports around.
Xlite: Discontinued and hopelessly outdated... does it even run on WM2003?
Windows Mobile 6: Good one! As in... joke!
So you see, there's bad and worse to choose from, but fear the not! A small Japanese company named ageet Corporation (that would be us) has come to the rescue with AGEphone Mobile 2! It supports Windows Mobile 5 and 6 not only in the Professional but also Standard Edition. It's ready for you to download at http://www.ageet.com/files/AGEphoneMobile2.CAB OR http://mobileage.notlong.com from your phones. For all of you who can't decide that quickly feel free to take a look at our...

Press Release
(with nice colorful pictures at http://www.ageet.com/us/news/2008.02.08-agephone-mobile-2.0-release.htm)
=====================================================================
Kyoto, Japan --February 2008
ageet Corporation, the experienced Japanese producer of VoIP software products such as the Vista Sidebar and Google Sidebar VoIP Gadget "AGEphone Gadget" and possibly the world's smallest and lightest VoIP engine "microSIP Stack", today released a completely revised version 2 of "AGEphone Mobile" softphone. This program can be used to make VoIP phone calls on a PDA or Smartphone that is based on Windows Mobile 5.0 (for Pocket PC or Smartphone) or Windows Mobile 6 (Standard or Professional) and utilizes the fully SIP compatible VoIP engine “microSIP Stack” developed by ageet, which is extremely small, fast and therefore suited for mobile devices. AGEphone Mobile 2 has been enhanced to also support keyboard-only control on devices without a touch screen and has been optimized for portrait and landscape mode on a wide range of screen resolutions, so devices such as HTC MTeoR, AT&T 852, Motorola Q9 and many more are capable of taking full advantage of the features the program has to offer.
The dynamic interface went through a major overhaul to guarantee easy and finger-friendly use of the product. Whether AGEphone is installed on a touchscreen device or one limited to keypad input, navigation through the softphone’s GUI is quick and fluid. Context sensitive menus change according to what the program is currently doing, mapping the best action to the soft keys of the device and making it unnecessary to navigate through endless sub-menus. On touchscreen devices, there isn't much need for a stylus because most of the interactive buttons can be pressed with your finger.
When dialing a number, the user is supported by an intelligent auto complete function, and recent incoming or outgoing call's numbers are quickly accessible by a single click. Numbers that are inputted scale themselves to screen size to guarantee best readability. Both in portrait or landscape mode the available space is being used to its best.
AGEphone Mobile 2 offers several special functions such as the capability to use multiple VoIP services at once, essentially making yourself accessible through multiple phone numbers. It also introduces a Provider QuickSwitch with which the user can switch between his VoIP services by simply pressing a key or tapping the screen. This allows fast and easy selection of the most suitable service when placing a call - the best choice is just a click away.
Take advantage of the different profiles you can set your Agephone to. Have your device automatically answer an incoming call as if you pressed the "accept" button yourself. If you're away from the phone, send all your incoming calls straight to the answer machine. Even reject all calls if you're feeling the inclination to. The choice is yours to make just by pulling up your menu.
Furthermore AGEphone now offers a new power management section which allows you to control energy consumption. You could for instance keep your device’s wi-fi connection from automatically shutting down or advice AGEphone to activate wi-fi on startup.
AGEphone Mobile 2 now also utilizes the device’s integrated phone book application, allowing the user to instantly access previously added contacts and call them by VoIP on the spot.
The settings menu has also been completely revised. It offers clearly structured categories that are accessible by both keys and stylus, and assists the user with auto completion and preset values.
The "AGEphone Mobile 2" softphone can currently be purchased online via ageet Corporation's homepage, http://www.ageet.com/us/download.htm. The purchase price is $35 USD. Users who purchased "AGEphone for Windows Mobile 5.0" can get an upgrade for free. A free trial version is also available, and ageet offers customized OEM versions for interested business customers.

Free applications as per request

Hi all
I am a software developer and I am interested in developing smartphone applications on my spare time (and I have a lot) for free.
What I need is ideas…. Meaning, me my self has HTC Diamond and all of my application needs is modest but I am sure that you guys probably have more needs then I do and …. My be you can help me help you … so bring on the ideas (… just not themes and all of this kind of applications).
Thanks
A connection type choosing utility would be highly useful - to forget about choosing between 3G and/or WLAN. More info

and here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408243
can you make a really simple program with no ui that lets me map a button to turn off the screen on my tilt?
also i would like an app to play a high pitch sound to ward off misquotes.
hey!
i have a nice idea!you could make and app like beat dj on samsung m7600 with scratch and all that things..
an application to after soo many seconds, and or when one turns off, then on the deivice that will kill a certain application - Example - I'd like to kill Pockethackmaster after it starts up, and sets the desired speed - no need to keep it running in the background...
Another idea - The ability to clear duplicate notifications on every soft reset - I tried one, but - it doesn't work to clear all the duplicate RTC notifications that come up after every soft reset or so...
also an auto memory defragmentor, and cleaner would be nice...
and of course - on startup/reset - pre-cache all startmenu icons (example - I just have a short menu so I go thru programs, and then from there games, etc.. again pre-caching these startmenu program. etc.. icons would be nice)...
edit forgot to add: WM2003 compatible please...
People, I'd recommend using this duplicate file finder to deal with unnecessary files on your hard drive. It has many functions, user-friendly interface, safety options and 100% efficiency.
what about inventory mobile? we have a list of products with price and current quantity, then we can insert new invoice that will decrease the quantity from the product table. just like Mini Point of Sales???
An activesync status monitor - so I can see at a glance if I'm still connected to my exchange server - a green icon in the top bar for ok, and grey for disconnected...?
Thanks.
Oooh, ooh, just thought of another one - an mp3 player that when minimized will pop up a window for say 5 seconds each time a new track is played with the track name and a skip button. Handy when using sat nav and the mp3 player in the car.
csharpcoder do you think that you will do any of these ideas?
