1GB sd cards - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

has anyone used a 1GB sd card on their xda2 . :?:

As I stated in a similar thread:
I have been using a SanDisk 1GB SD card in my i-mate for several months now and it works flawlessly.

Not yet . . .
Hi
I only got my XDAII on Wednesday - still a bit green! But my company has ordered a 1GB SD card for it - which should be here next week. I'll let you know how I get on with it!
Andy.

I have a 1Gig, and a friend of mine has a 1Gig in his IMate, they both work fine, you have nothing to worry about...

and I have 1 Gb "noname" card. Works fine.

Transcend 45x 1 GB SD-card works great on XDA II, and it is pretty cheap, the max speed is really 45x (6-7 MB/s).

Works great
I've got my 1GB card - unbranded - and it works flawlessly!

How much do these cards cost and where can I get the cheapest ones from?

100-150 € for the moment, prices are always going down, check online stores, use price comparaison sites.

Expansys are good
I brought a 1 Gig SD Card from them and they were very good, on the uk site they are now only £75 which is good value

I have just ordered a KingMax 60x 1Gig SD card from my friend in Malaysia for RM500 (US$131) I am currently using a Transcend 45x 512mB SD which has worked very well.

which 1GB sd-card is the best?

I need a fast 1GB sd-card for my MDA-II.
Which one is the best?
There are quite some "bad" SD cards for sale.
You might want to check www.pocketgps.co.uk
Bottom line: Toshiba, Panasonic & Lexar manufactured SD cards are the best for PocketPC hardware, especially if youre using TomTom.
DO NOT USE Sandisk (not just my experience).
Note that a lot of brands have their cards manufactured by one of the named manufaturers. Kingston SD cards are very likely to come from Toshiba.
Also note that speed is not the most important factor, it's stability that make things work.
Kingmax
I have been using a Kingmax 1G card for a few months now. I have been very happy with it. It was inexpensive and it is fast. The only disadvantage I can think of is that it doesn't have a hardware write-protect. That is because it is waterproof. I don't know about you, but if my Xda II falls in the toilet, the SD card isn't going to be my biggest worry!
Good luck!
Pretec is the worlds fastest and I have one. Works Great! Check out there website for more info.

Do you also use the SD for TomTom Navigator 3, or are you 'just' storing data on it?
Storing & Retrieving is not the isue, its the stressed reading that makes SD cards collapse . . .(until soft-reset) TomTom Navigator 3 is know to be stressfull to SD cards and pushes the less stable ones over the edge.
A good test would include:
Install a TomTom 3 Map & POI on SD
Drive on the motorway at >= 120km/h (to generate enough map-data throughput) in following situations: a. with POI switxched on and b. without POI switched on. If it works, let it recalculate a new route (yes, while driving!) and eventually increase speed.
Please publish the results, especially for Kingmax & Pretec.
FYI: Sandisk failed at both, same with Extrememory (just a bit better). Kingston is OK without POI but fails with POI.

I don't own a GPS that I can connect to my Xda II. I'll be happy to try it if someone wants to give me one. If you know of any software that will perform a stress-test, I can try that for you as well.
I've got a traxdata SD card and most of the time its works fine.
Sometimes when i drive and plot a route in tomtom it freezes up.
Not all of the time.
chears,
I use an Kingmax 1GB sd card and have had no problems whatsoever!!!!!
Will be hopefully using it with TomTom 3 this weekend.
Will let you know when I do.
I've just had to send my Kingmax 1Gb SD Card back as it started exhibiting some "strange" behaviour.
Moving files from the phone memory to the SD Card would basically send the file into oblivion as it would not appear on the SD Card and the original file being deleted!
Tried formatting on the PPC but wouldn't work, tried formatting in my PC but format would fail...
EDIT: TomTom3 worked fine from it. Although every now and again it would take AGES to load in the map when on map view mode. Screen updates were also slow but that may well be down to my 4800bps wired GPS unit
I use a Lexar 1GB with copilot 5 works great have had no issues at all paid $79.00 usd
mm, I would like to know a website that sells Lexar 1GB SD memory for around $80 (and ships them to The Netherlands) . . . .
i-mate jam + 1gb lexar >> works fine, no problem.
Not sure bought mine at FRY'S www.outpost.com is their website.
does the all the 1G lexar sd speed at 32? where can i find one in uk
cheers
So which card is the best? Reading through the messages it appears that for TomTom Navigator it's between Kingmax and Pretec, and possibly Lexar?
Did anyone get some recommendations from Tomtom directly as to which cards work the best with their product?
Not sure bought mine at FRY'S www.outpost.com is their website.
@Argeles: You misunderstood. Best choice for use with TomTom are Lexar, Panasonic or Toshiba manufactured SD cards.
Toshiba is also sold under the Kingston brand.
Check www.pocketgps.co.uk for more info and query on specific brands.
Just wring with a update:
I am using a Kingsmax 1GB card and got my GPS receiver yesterday. Been using it since yesterday with TomTom 3 with no problems whatsoever. Even recalculating route while driving.
I'd recommend the KingsMax card going on my experience. The choice is yours!?!?
well, I heard that there is really no big difference between ordinary 1 gb card and 1gb high-speed card. However you pay almost 30euro more for the high-speed card. Lexar 1gb costs 79 euro and Lexar HS 1gb costs 100 euro.
I bought yesterday in Holland at MyCom shop a 1gb card (Apacer) for 69 euro. It is really fast and has 1 year gurantee!
Test results are super:
Read: 0.70mb/sec (tested with PocketMechanic)
Write: 0.02mb/sec
My old SanDisk 256mb read only 0.10MB/sec

SD 512 CARDS??

I need help finding a replacement SD card for my XDA11 as mine seems to have nothing but problems..
I have replaced them twice now and the same faults come up time and time again ie not allowing me to access them or even format them...
The make is Jessup the camera shop people has any one of you had the same problem could this be a dodgy batch or do I persivere as its quite a cheap card....
any more good makes recommended??
and whats this SAN disk I keep seeing mentioned are they compatible??
I've had probs with Jessops cards in my cameras. I was using a 512MB card made by PNY, or rather by Toshiba (it says Toshiba on the back) and branded with a PNY sticker on the front. I used this in my Magician before switching to mini SD in the Wizard. Excellent card, cost me about 30 quid but its out fo work currently as I am using Mini SD now. If you can find a PNY (toshiba) that should work fine, I've had two now and they are fine.
512 sd cards
Thanks for the swift reply I will take a look in the shops tomorrow.
can I ask what retailer you brought the Toshiba clone cards from ?
regards Lee
I bought it from PC world, they do PNY memory upgrades for PC's as well.
But you can get them cheaper elsewhere, for example, MobyMemory.
i have 1 128MB sandisk it's ok but slow
i have 2 512 kingston elite pro and they rock never had any problems
Jessops 512 Mb sd
I have been using Jessops SD cards in my alpine for about 9 months without any problems untill last week whenthe device melted ( i think ) my 512 card !!!! this is my first experience of the problem . I do have a 256mb jessops card as well and that one is still working .
Not sure how to proceed ?? any suggestuions on the best card to buy ?? and where to get it cheapest ?

Yes it will. I got mine from Fry's at 179.00 plus tax. And so far so good works well enough for my movies. but only had it a few days. check outpost.com
cool, i thought maybe the bus size couldn't handle such addresses.
i guess SDHC's addressing changes solves that problem...

question about switching storage card

Hi, guys
This is a great forum, and I learnd a lot of stuff on this site. Thanks for all your hard work.
I'm a new user of windows mobile and I'm currently with an o2 orbit 2. I have 3 1G cards separately stored applications & co-pilot, music and movies. The question is how i can switch between different storage cards without harming my device. Do i have to switch the device off to change the card, are there any implications for doing that? Cheers.

The Cruise/Polaris's storage card is supposed to be hot-swappable, per HTC the manufacturer. With the price of storage cards going down every day, have you considered buying an 8gb card? I bought one for about $70 with my new Cruise, and now I see them on ebay for $55-60. Good luck...
You can "hot-swap" the µSD card of the o2 Orbit2 (I do ), and, of course, also of the TC.
I bought a 8GB Class 4(!) µSDHC card on ebay.de for 39,95€ (+postal charges)
EDIT: Here: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130194411701
thank you for your reply.
I'll use hot-swap for now. And buy a 8G card in a few days.
anything I should be aware of when buying the 8G card?

Personally, I prefer SanDISK brand...
If anyone's interested, I saw an online article somewhere, that stated that sandisk and toshiba both had 16gb microsd cards starting up production, and toshiba actually had found a way to cram 32gb on a card, but sandisk was still working on it. bet we'll all have 32gb cards by next Christmas... Man, back in the early 80's when I had my Atari 800XL, if you'd have told me I'd have 32gb on a portable phone, I'd have laughed at you... heheheee
Seriously. I remember I had a 20 MB hard drive on a 8088/86 computer. That thing was huge and weighed a ton. Now we can have 32 GB on something smaller than my fingernail.
Yeah I have an 8 GB card from amazon for about $60 if i recall correctly. They're definitely worth it.
if you want to use your sd card as some kind of "ram-extender" you may try to get a fast one.
I eg install all programs on my card to have as much ram free as possible, there for I bought the fastest I found.
aleph305, do you notice any difference in speed - can the Polaris take advantage of a faster card? (Perhaps there is a maxspeed)
first : sry 4 the delay.
..
and now. number three, the larch ...
no ... ehm
I guess so.
on a magician I installed pocketplus on the card (noname 2gb @ approx. 12r/5-9w mb/s) and the today screen becomes unusable.
then bought a panasonic 2gb 150X (approx 20-22r/14-18w mb/s) and pocket plus runs like it where at the ram.
Therefore I can confirm that the magician will and Im pretty sure every device will when you use the card as "ram".
ps
- you have never enough ram
- your ram is never fast enough

Q: Large micro SDHC Cards

Hello guys and gals,
I am starting to feel the pinch with an 8 Gb memory card and wondered if anyone had found a good, cheap and compatible 16 or 32 Gb micro SD cards for the Desire S.
EBay seems to have some 32gb cards for about 10 GBP which sounds insane.
Anyone got a suggestion for this UK Desire S user?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
You don't want a cheap one, spend those 30€ on a class 10 card. It's well worth it its faster and will probably not die on u as some cheap one might.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Do NOT buy cards from ebay. They will always be fake, when they arrive they will say 32gb but if you perform a scan with a tool it shows its actual capacity to be 1gb! Don't fall for it like I did!
Just use google shopping and search for the cheapest price for a memory card from a reputable site.
In fact, I see you're in the UK and theres a good deal on from play:
http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/16710254/Lexar-16GB-Micro-SDHC-Memory-Card-Class-4/Product.html
I bought a 16GB class 6 about half a year ago for £18 so this is a pretty good deal.
From experience classes dont make much of a difference at all, maybe miniscule. This card comes with a 5 year warranty so no need to worry about it dying on you.
I ordered a 16gb class 10 y/day from play for £17.99 It's Pny but will do the job
Cheers for the replies. I thought eBay would have been a rip but you never know with that place, some crazy deals happen and we miss them because we fear them (and quite rightly 99% of the time).
Might pounce on the 16 Gb Class 10 from Play.com.
Anyone know if the Desire S can take 32Gb cards and are there any good deals on those? Best I've found is £38, give or take pennies.
Far as I know yeah it can handle a 32gb
Yes, it can! =)
Mine is MicroSDHC 32GB Transcend Class4 (TS32GUSDHC4). Works good.
I got my 16 Gb today and its working fine
Did anyone tested an A-DATA / KINGMAX 16GB, class 10?
I got a scandisk 16gb.. works great!

i'm sooo confused about this. i want to buy a 32gb microsd card.
either sandisk class 4 or lexar class 10.
i was about to order the fast one but then read this thread here and some other and got really confused!
any help? has anyone used sandisk class 4?
thanks guys!
If buy a new micro SDHC Card, can i simply copy and paste the old content after formatting?
Yes, i did it recently, had no issue.

Just in case, enable hidden files viewing.
I bought a Samsung 16GB Class10 microSD, works like a charm...
bought a sandisk 16gb class 4, everything is running fast and without problems, don't know if you would "feel" a higher class at all
I spent a lot of time looking on the 'net for a reasonable price 32GB card.
Saw plenty on Ebay but many looked untrustworthy (had a bad experience before!)
Eventually collected a 32GB Class 4 card for £35 from Novatech, local to me.
The Novatech card I got turned out to be Integral brand with 5 year warranty.
It's actually a Toshiba manufactured card made in Japan, so I'm happy with it.
The camcorder app seems to work better with the Class 4 card than it did with the supplied Samsung 8GB Class 2.
I bought Toshiba 16gb class 4 and it is good working.
Been using a 16 GB Class IV Transcend Micro SD card, everythings been peachy so far. Finding a legit 32 GB Class IV Micro sd card is so hard here in my neck of the woods.
