I've just ordered up my XDA II which should be here by wednesday.
Just wondered what you guys suggest the best upgrades for it are?
There are a lot of screen protectors on ebay, which are the best, or should i go somewhere else.
Best bluetooth headset?
Best case? For my old XDA, i made a slip in case as i don't like the bulky flip cases. I'd like to get another for the II, anyone know where i can buy a slip case or get a leather one made?
Best memory card, SD or mmc? 128mb or 256mb
The xda2 comes with a very reasonable flip case, the reusable/washable screen protectors are better than the throw away type, however in my experience I have not been able to remove the protector for washing without ballsing it up around the edges. The best headset I have tried is the Ericcson HBH-65.
I'm after a pouch case really rather than the flip as its less bulky.
Anybody had experience with screen protectors, whats the best make? ebays has pdair, brando, moshi moshi, ECfilm etc
are these cheap £5.99 hotsynch/charge cables any good?
martin fields overlay
Give these a go...i've got one. Easy to apply, washable too, but after 3 months i still haven't needed to wash it. Read the review, http://www.mypdacafe.com/articles/read.php?id=165, i can corroborate it.
I've just checked the site, www.overlayplus.com but it seems it is down temporarily, d'oh :?
Quote: are these cheap £5.99 hotsynch/charge cables any good:
Some of them discharge instead of charging the xda2 but work ok with xda1.
'some' discharge, so its pot luck with the xda II? Maybe be worth getting a proper one then from a proper accessory shop.
Anyone had any luck with a pouch case for these? I made one for my XDA II, but haven't got the bits to make another. May go and fine a leather shop and see if they can make one up
Best slip cases available are from http://www.nutshell.cc
Tuff-as-nuts and they mean it. I've just got one for the XDA II and it's really slim in comparision to the flip cases (standard + covertec case) I got the one with the belt loop and an open (no flap) top.
I would recommend a nice set of e-grips too (http://www.egrips.com) with the grips on the side, it's nice and easy to remove the XDA II from the case.
Cheerio
the nutshell looks like what i'm after. Do they have distributors in the uk, or do they have to be got from the states?
Discharging?
Not excetly the best place to discuss the topic on 'xda2 discharge when the usb sync/charge cable is in use' ... but since someone here mentioned this, i guess i share a finding on this.
i used to charge my xda1 on my labtop using the sync/charge cable, but with the xda2, the sync charge cable seemed like always discharge when the device is plug into the usb port. ...
i think this is some kinda of bug .. to overcome this, just plug the xda2 to the usb (using of coz the charge/sync cable), wait for the sync to complete, then unplug it for 2 secs and reconnect it back again. walah ..! the xda2 should be charging now, instead of discharging. ^^
it had always worked for me since last month .. ^^ hope it works for the rest of the xda2. any feedback?
Tuff-as-nuts cases come from New Zealand. But Expansys do them in limited ranges and also with their own logo embossed. (http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=206-00)
I bought mine direct and it took just over one week to arrive. I've attached some pictures to show you. I'm going to write a full review for posting on tekguru.
Cheers
Howard
As for Sync/Chage USB cables, I use a retractable one from JavoEdge. http://www.javoedge.com there was a problem with the initial shipments of these cables as the manufacturers thought the pinouts were the same on the XDA I and XDA II. This is not the case. I had two, the first one did not charge the XDA II if the battery level was below 72% when connected. In fact over a period of time the battery was actually discharging while connected.
Javoedge were very good in the customer support, they listened, and understood and then sent a replacement one that works perfectly.

So now I'm done with my gadgets
I've purchased the following items:
Nutshell black pouch case (exactly like the one on the pictures above) http://www.tuff-as-nuts.com/O2-XDA.html
VERY pleased! It's really nice.
A set of silver e-grips from http://www.egrips.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=394
Really comfortable and slim. Still possible to dock (if you don't stick the side-ones to low).
Screen protector from Boxwave http://www.boxwave.com/products/cleartouch/cleartouch-screen-protector-qtek-2020_105.htm
Also very nice. The only one I've tried so far but I'm very pleased with it.
Here's a good review on different screen protectors:
http://www.brighthand.com/article/Protect_Your_Screen
So, that my gadget-list!
/Fred
I've used a WriteSHIELD screen protector for over a year, and when I took it off because I had dropped :-( my XDA so the screen cracked, it had no scratches at all (and I write a lot!). It comes with three protectors and is rather expensive, but needless to say I've just put on the second one on my new XDA II. If you follow the included instructions carefully, you'll get a flawless protector application (no bubbles underneath).
As I write a lot on my pocket computer, I've also bought a properly sized stylus. It's actually a pen with several tips (one's for the screen) and is much better than the thin, flimsy one included in the XDA, which will give you a cramp in your hand if you write a lot. Of course you'll have to carry it by itself, it doesn't fit in the XDA!
That case looks like JUST what I want. But...how do you get it out without hitting a side button? Seems impossible.
I second the recommendation for WriteSHIELDs; the best.
On BT headsets, I just posted a mini-review last week, search for it. I also have three more of them on the way to try out. Right now I'm using the G-Lite, and like it a lot. It's not perfect, but good, and tiny. I have returned the Jabra and Motorola HS810. There are a number of others I tried in the store and decided against right away.
It's almost impossible to take it out without touching the buttons...however, I use the key-lock feature, so it's not a prob for me.
As far as BT headset goes, I'm using Jabra BT250 and I'm very pleased with it. I specially like the sound in the ear-plug.
/Fred
I haven't tried it, but doesn't it automatically unlock if a call or SMS comes in? So if you want to grab it to answer a call or message, you end up hitting keys?
I still haven't found a good way to carry the XDA II. I'm still using the XDA I case from EB.

So far I have seen the Vaja case, which is only in black leather available and has no hole for the camera. Then there's the Piel Frama case in several styles and colours and with a hole and with a nice, removable belt clip. Pretty pricy though, both Piel and Vaja are around € 60,00 which is heavy.
And there is the Proporta alu case, pretty looking and nicely priced at about € 35 but I don't like alu cases because the lit is always in the way.
Pretty poor collection, so far....... I am considering the Piel case but I think if I wait a bit maybe there will be other, better priced cases on the market. I know we had a big discussion about the "ideal" case for an XDA a while ago here but I don't think a perfect case for the XDA has ever been made.
Now the makers are starting all over again with the same conventional designs. I wonder if they have learnt anything from the former discussions here.
Anyhow, before my rant becomes too much of a drag, I just wondered what you are using at the moment for your XDAII (Or Qtek 2020/MDAII/Imate). :?: I am using the stock case as long as I havn't bought a better alternative.
I'm using the provided case for my brand new xda II (it was delivered yesterday and I pleased as punch with it!!!). That's only until the Piel case I ordered last night arrives. I really hate the case that came with the xda II. It looks cheap, doesn't fit it very well and is a real struggle to get the flap closed without pressing any of the buttons!!! Not to mention the lack of credit card slots!
http://www.proporta.com/detail.asp?id=624
heard people speak highly about these alu cases
Go to ebcases.com and request them make a case for the phone. I really like the case they have for the XDA and would love to get them to modify it just a bit for the XDA II. Maybe if enough of us request it.
I've bought the proporta one,
Looks very pretty,
Not heavy,
It has a removable belt clip.
All the buttons are accessible except those for calendar and contact.
SD slots are well designed, inserting and ejection are very easy.
Pictures...
Got myself the Proporta case, looks smart and is slim. Cost a litlle more then € 35. I payed about € 50 incl Tax and shipping. ( tot the Netherlands)
I'm waiting for the Vaja I-Volution case ; I had one for my XDA I , fantastic indeed, and want one for my XDA II

Indeed, a great case! I had one for my xda too........bit expensive though at 115 dollars.
The second setback of the I-volution is that, if you are using the xda as a phone it looks like you are talking into a big, leather, black shoe with the hard fliptop standing upright.

The Piel Frama case is 90 yoyos.

Well, converted in Euro's that's € 60,00 incl int.shipping with UPS. I received mine only 2 days after ordering. It's expensive, but it's a damn fine quality case.......had one before on my xda as well.
goztreh or JJJ have you noticed any difference in siganal quality for calls or with blue tooth with the Proporte ALU case??
I am very interested in this case but read somewhere that it can affect reception, and was wodering if either of you noticed any problem with this.
Currently use the standard leather case, and after a while it start looking a bit cheap, as you constantly have to take it out for charging.
And i have noticed that it is not so much secure in the case as it was new.
I am also looking to upgrade to the proporta case. but like others a bit worry about the lost signal strenght and the inherrent battary use
So please let us have your opinion
Is it my eyes or is there a big hole in that XDA2 as shown on the propota website where the contacts button should be
look here for the new proporta case, very cheap too.

Hi guys,
What I read is that the Alu case realy reduces the signal strength and that is a very bad thing. My problem now is that I think the alu case ads less bulk but the phone strength is too important for me. I came across the Active Armor case and that realy looks interesting. Here is a review for a 2210 because there is no case (yet) for the MDA II. http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/activearmor-hp2200-review.html
I sent them a message to ask if they have planned a case for the MDA II in the feature and as soon as I get a reply, I'll post it here. I think it looks like a good sollution: very well protected and not too big. But I think they have to change the flip cover otherwise you can't hear your speaker...
Wouter
Why does nobody mention Krusell ?
http://www.krusell.se/handit.asp
it's there for the MDA/XDA II also !
Hi Johan,
Which one will fit the MDA II. I can't tell for sure on their site.
Wouter
I've never used any cases and keep my PPC in my pants pocket, but I really like the protection cases provide, as well as integrating my Wallet into it.
This may sound stupid, but how do you use the cradle with the case on? Or do you just charge with a USB Cable? If you use the cradle, do you have to take it off everytime you sync? I take my device in and out of the cradle 10-20 times a day, so I would love to have a case that works with the cradle.
Thanks.
The box for the Belkin leather case says suitable for the XDA 2 - it isn't even close.
There is no access to the volume slider and camera buttons, the phone buttons and the headphone jack either. Its a well made and constructed case for the XDA I think but definitely not the XDA 2.
Repeated attempts to contact Belkin Oz by phone and email have resulted in no response. I guess they don't want to admit to the design being so poor that after the leather loosens up a little I found out the hard way that the XDA 2 will slide right out of it and onto whatever lays below with dramatic consequences. Albeit I had to make some alterations to the bottom of the case to gain access to the phone buttons - these were only minor and no way the cause for the fall-out. The standard case has nothing at the top to hold the PDA secure.
Normally in my experience Belkin have great products and great service - but alas, not this time.
Bought a Krusell case now - read review on other post - fantastic design and quality!!
Other than simple cables, I've never seen anything from Belkin that wasn't complete garbage. I'd sooner use a tin can and string than buy a Belkin wireless product, and none of the cases I've touched has looked usable.
In all honesty, I think the original XDA2 case does the job. Granted the belt clip isn't too clever, but i've never had any other problems with how it protects...probably cos i haven't dropped it yet but, then again, if you drop it unless it's a steel case you're gonna do at least some damage.
Anthony
I've never heard of anyone being happy with the original case, that's a first. I spent about 2.7 seconds thinking about using it, then realized it would never do. To each his own I guess.
I'm now using one of the aluminum cases. Pretty nice, but not perfect. Radio interference is one issue. My EB case for the XDA I was absolutely perfect (rare for me to say that), but they don't make one for the XDA II.
I was on a plane this morning and as I walked down the aisle I saw someone reading a magazine with an ad for the perfect XDA II case. Unfortunately, I must have read the URL wrong. I thought it was "sanocases.com" but that doesn't work, nor a couple of similar things I tried.
Does that name ring a bell with anyone? It's a case much like the EB case for the XDA I, which doesn't have the annoying snap strap on it.
I have a vague memory of a screen protector sold under the "Sando" brand name but cant find anything on google.

Maybe JavoCase ?
Look here http://www.javoedge.com
Serge
Thanks guys, but no dice. The Javo is interesting though, I might just get one to test drive. Similar to the protection of the aluminum case (which I mostly love) except without the signal interference problem.
how about www.senacases.com?
Unfortunately, I don't see a XDA II case by them - or at least, not on their website.
I think that's it! But I could have sworn it was an XDA II that was in the ad photo. Damn, my eyes must have been really bad that early in the morning.
Founding the right case for me wasn't difficult.
I just take the ones that cames with the XDAII and cut off the flap.
No regrets
Since you seem to be looking for something protective and not limiting radio reception, have a look at the Proporta Clearcase (name doesnt sound like "sano" . . . )
www.proporta.com
Case is excellent, because its 'plastic' (durable though) it will get scratches, but that what its for.
Finaly see who is calling without opening the case
Only need to open it is to write on it.
I think the case (when closed) is stable enough to protect the XDA2 (or MDAII, although tha case was designed for the plain XDA2/iMate case, the T-Mobile case fits too with all button available without opeing clearcase), but I did not dare to test a drop from the table . . .
I just ordered the Javo clear case, which seems the same. I agree that it seems ideal, as I love the protection of the metal case but not the slight signal degradation.
Javo clearcase IS the same as proporta Clearcase.
Shipping is cheaper with Proporta (at least in Europe)
I have one of the plastic cases and I love it. I've had it about a month now and the case has a minor scratch on it, well, more a chunk from my keys. Well worth it
Thank's for the link's , do any of you guy's know where i could find a case for the xda 2 which is deep enough to take a backpack as well . cheers steve
I have a Krussel drop-in case which would probably work with the backpack. I use that now because I use the car kit, so an attached case doesn't make sense.
I have buyed all cases available for my Qtek2020.
Silicon case, no good for me, after 1 week is broken and the screen is not protected.
Metal case, the door is uncomfortable, and for me is not good when the phone receive the call because i open the door, is very strong.
Case in policarbonete clear, very best solution, very strong and comfortable, I prefere this one.
if the screen were not protected then you were not using this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20484
but it will break if you take it out of the case too often which is why i dont use the cradle anymore
there are many many many cases and i doubt you tried them all ....
my poly cased died after a drop
and it was troublesome to open compared to the silicone i use now
silicon == melted sand you make chips from
silicone == rubber
I found this one http://www.cases.com/xda2.htm last days but I am still looking for one than I can use with the backpack.
See you
The best case ever!!!!
Finally I found it!!!!

Just order a cheap, $8, bundle package from amazon. It includes:
-Car charger
-Wall charger
-USB cable
-Plastic case
-Screen protector
Its cheap so I dont expect much from it but i will review it fo you guys when it comes around monday. Now my expo has its dedicated charger for my house, the girlfriends place, my car and now I have a dedicated cable to the PC. I will keep you guys updated.
amazon.com/gp/product/B0037V09ZK/ref=oss_product
nice
nice find there. thx phatride... hopefully as our phone gains popularity we'll start seeing some decent accessories.. i know that myself and a few others are anxiously awaiting a legit tv out cable.. or even a usb splitter to allow for charging and music playback at the same time
That is cheap! I'll keep an eye on this one... my poor phone already got scratched in several places, and I've been wanting to get a decent hard casse for it.
Not sure I'd trust a charger that cheap, but no doubt the OEMs get them for much less than we pay for at the store.
Wow thats almost so cheap u gotta try it lol...
Too cheap. I had to order it also.
Watch the whole reson why everything is so cheap because its not UL approved. My house will be burnt down with in a week
But the price might be worth it for the screen protector and case alone, power stuff aside.
sorry, double post
So i got the package today. First impressions are pretty impressive. The chargers and usb work great, no problems. The case fits well and is has a soft rubber feel. Has a lot more grip than naked phone. Phones slider isnt a snappy but the difference is minor. The screen protecter is terrible! Has a gritty feel and make the screen a lot more unresponsive, the walmart protecter sheets are alot better.
Overall, I am impressed. You cant beat the press and the only thing i am dissapionted in is the screen protecter. After some time has past, about a week or so, i will give an update on the durability of the products.

Yikes, screen protector is what i need most :\
Nice, thanks for the quickie review.
So the screen protector sucks. Tell me more about the case, if you don't mind. How's the fit, the build quality, and what does it protect? Does it have an opening for the lanyard loop? (or stylus looop lol) You mention the slider isn't as snappy... is it rubbing somewhere?
The bottom covers everything except the camera, flash, speaker, microphone, stylus loop, power cord access, and the buttons. The top is kind of like a frame around the phone. The finish is on the clamps rubed off from the when phone closing. The finish on the front and back is still in perfect condition. I like the feel alot, its very soft, kinda like velvet. I think the snappiness is getting worse though, which is weird because i thought it would get better. I see this case as a good temporary case until nice ones comes out. Its good assurance that when I drop my phone it will not get scratch/chipped.
I've seen a black rubberized clip-on case for about 14.95 at Amazon. Anyone using that one yet?
To be honest, now Im kinda confused. I recently took off the cover and reinstalled it and now the slider smoothness is perfect. I guess it depends on how well you put the cover on.
Thanks, sounds like it's not a bad case, then. All in all, seems like a good deal! If I can't find a case I like more by my next paycheck, I think I'm gonna get thiss bundle.
Well one of the plastic clips broke on the top unit so the unit is useless now. Barely paid anything for it so i doesnt really matter. There was no wear on the case surface. Only defect in this case is the clips, they splenter off easily. Hope we find a more durable case.

I had them since feb 15 all worked but I had to swap the usb cable and use it on the lg charger since windows 7 wouldnt detect the phone, but it would charge, so i have the LG usb cable on my computer and the other on the charger, the snap on grip is great, had to take off a few times to clean under it, but other than that no problems, the car charger worked perfect, I recalibrated my screen and the screen protector worked fine too.
Oops forgot to recalibrate with the protector. I am bummed my case broke after 2 weeks of having it though, i liked it.
I just got my bundle today. The case is really nice. It fit my expo perfectly, no rubbing or anything. I just hope it will last longer than 2 weeks.
Screen protector does look really cheap. Doesnt matter though b/c I already bought an invisible shield for it.
I've been putting off buying this because , well.. Amazon wants you to store your CC number on their site for future use.. I don't like that, but even a car charger at 8 clams is a super bargain. Add in a second usb cable and it's a steal. The case is 3 dollars alone. Not sure how they can sell so cheap.. must be build using child slave labor in Ecuador.
I don't really post as much on here as i used to when i had my touch pro 2 but i just thought i'd help some people out who where looking for some accessories for their new toys. After paying $500 for this, as i used to upgrade for a hd7, i knew i had to get the best products to make my phone better. And before anybody asks i'm not affiliated in any way with any of the companies whose products i will be discussing.
1. GadgetShieldz Full Body Screen Protector
http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/htc-sensation-4g-skins-screen-protectors-covers-cases-shields.html
I have tried random cheap screen protectors, zagg screen protectors and this. The zagg screen protector was too rubbery for me to even swipe my finger across it. I've been using gadgetshieldz on my past 4 htc devices starting with the touch pro and these are by far the best i've used. Not many air bubbles if you apply it correctly and the few that do come up with be gone within a day. And the best part about these screen protectors are that it only cost $6.99 for a full body case.
2. Anker 1900mAh Extended Battery
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220809453541&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I've been using this battery for about a week now. Compared to the oem battery it does have a better battery life. I have not really tried to see how old it lasted but in the settings it said that the last cycle held 11 hours and 40 minutes before it died. I have had it die on me a few times because i don't charge it a lot but that's been intentionally to let it die from reading around about lithium batteries. It also does not get as got as the original oem battery which i like the most. I plan on getting a few more of these next month.
3. Transcend 32 GB Class 4 microSDHC Flash Memory Card
http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Class-microSDHC-Memory-TS32GUSDHC4/dp/B004R7P28W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311960824&sr=8-1
This doesn't even need much explination. Everyone likes to have more memory. I put a 32gb card in my hd7 as i thought i was going to keep it and i knew i needed one for the sensation too. I am one of those people that downloads a lot of apps plus i wanted space for music and videos. The speeds on this card are pretty face. I get an average speed using teracopy of 18 to 20mb/s. That's a lot faster than my class 2 card that came with my hd7.
4. Aluminum Metal Case for HTC Sensation 4G Z710e
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11001246&products_id=33051
I think this company used to be called monaco as they make the same exact cases as monaco did. I bought my first monaco metal case for my tp2 when i found out about it on here and haven't looked back since. I always purchase these metal cases because they protect my phone in case of falls and i can use the phone which it is in the case. It has cut outs for all the ports. I think this is for the sensation unlocked because all the other metal cases i got from them have cut outs for the logos but the phone still fits none the less. What i like the most about this case is with the clip attached i can lay it on it's side and it would be like a kickstand because it can be used in landscape mode when watching a movie. Also you can use the case with the car mount that i will talk about next
5. Car Mount for PDair Aluminum Metal Case
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11001246&products_id=30009
This is a car mount that can be used with the case that i just mentioned previously. So you can attach it without taking the phone out of the case. This works great when using it for navigation. The car mount comes with the windshield cup, the holder that attaches to it and a clip holder for the case. The aluminum case comes with a round clip that screws into the back for the belt holder. This one comes with another clip that has an octagon shape that allows you to place it into the car mount so that it will stay at the angle you place it. I always super glue this clip mount to the case so it does not get unscrewed. I have no reason for the one that comes with the case as this works with the belt holder as well. The car holder cost $12
6. Logitech s120 computer speakers
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220814003710&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I got these for 2 reasons. My main reason was the obvious which was for music purposes. Since i've gotten this phone i've been listening to pandora and i also have a nice amount of music on my phone. The second reason was to use it as a speaker. I've never really had to use it as i'm content, not happy, but content with the volume of the speaker on the sensation although i liked the hd2's speaker better. These speakers have served good my all general purposes. Plus for $12 it'll work nice when listening to music with friends.
7. Motorola S9-HD Bluetooth Stereo Headphones
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Bluetooth-MOTOROKR-MOTOACTIV-Headset/dp/B001LXR0BW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311960316&sr=8-1
I bought these a few months ago when i had my hd2 or hd7, can't remember but anyways i got them to replace my logitech freepulse headphones as the cushioning on them started to come off. I also wanted bluetooth headphones that i could also use as a headset to talk through. These work perfect for both intentions. The music sounds crisp and i have never gotten a complaint when talking to someone with them. I chose these over the s10s because of the reviews between the two. I paid $60 when i got mine but you can get them for $45 now.
8. Motorola T505 Bluetooth Portable In-Car Speakerphone

I have had this for a few years now. I used to have the t305 but i upgraded to this. The sound quality is pretty nice and audible even when your driving with the window down. I like this speaker because it actually annouces the number of the person that is calling you.
If i have time i will take pictures of these items and post them on here. I hope that i helped someone out who is trying to find the perfect accessories.

For me I like #4 and #5, the aluminum cases with belt clip. Looks a bit bulky for my taste but looks different. Kudos for that but I prefer the leather universal case I have and the Mobi red case that fits together nicely. But that car mount is really cool though. Thanks for the alternatives!
