EXTUSB - Robust?

My Himalaya is starting to get pretty flaky - it's given many years of excellent service and I'll be sad to see it go. But I pretty much have to replace it so I started researching and have struck a snag:
While I'd love to get a Touch HD, if for no other reason than the 3.5 mm audio jack, the unit is way overpriced for my taste so it's not an option.
All of the phones on my shortlist have the EXTUSB interface and I'm wondering just how resilient that is?
I carry my Himalaya in the inner pocket of my motorbike jacket and listen to music whilst riding ... this hasn't been a problem with the 2.5 mm jack - does anyone think it would be a problem with an EXTUSB plug?
Scotty
My experience with miniUSB ports (essentially the same stuff) has shown them to be pretty damn durable... it may tend to get a bit loose (it'll become easy to unplug it accidentally; although will still maintain a connection without issue) but it won't outright break...that said, that may be different with extUSB
I suggest you invest in a stereo bluetooth headset... they're quite good these days; although I guess having another thing to charge is a bit of a pain

Replacement Earbuds (with microphone)

I'm looking to replace these stock earbuds.... they sound ok but the build quality is horrible and after 5 months of fairly heavy use the connector is already starting to separate.
Any suggestions? I want something with the same "stuff in" type feel, but something that's actually a decent price. I'm seeing a lot of $100+ klipsch and Skull Candy / Beatz or whatever the **** they're called.
Not interested in either of those gimmicky brands (dr. dre beatz or skull candy) but I could justify splurging on a Klipsch set if it was worth it.... looking for something a bit cheaper though lol
2 days later.... I'm starting to get the impression I'm the only one who ever used the stock earbuds.
Shameless bump.... shopping tonight and recommendations are welcome
For $15, these are great... I find the midrange on these not bad and the bass/treble very good.

For $45, these are excellent sounding... Full spectrum is very clear.

I have both, and found them via head-fi.org forums.
Both of these earbud headsets puts the stock one to shame. I prefer these over bluetooth headsets due to radiation emitted via Bluetooth as well as the phone by itself. Only disadvantage of these earbud/headphones is no active noise cancellation. (eg. a Bluetooth Plantronics Voyager Pro's noise canellation is a LOT better, especially in a car, bus or noisy environment, unfortunately not sure if the bluetooth signal itself is bad (long term) since it's right next to your skull.
If you want DECENT headphones (Good sound, Good build quality), you're gonna have to get a DECENT brand. Right now, beats are the best you can get (opinion), and skull candy's are DECENT, and not too bad of a price. Look on amazon, i got some 80$ skull candy's for 15 dollars and they're AMAZING
Thanks for the input guys.
these Monoprice earbuds are decent, and the price is really low.
dunno if you'll like the color though.
I really like zagg smartbuds great sound. Great build quality.

My phone didn't come with stock earplugs, did my Bestbuy steal them from the packaging?!
I don't know about any with a microphone, but get some Klipsch's! I own a pair of S4's, and they are the best earbuds I've ever had.
I don't think you will regret buying these things, and I will honestly say your music will come alive with these things.
I do believe they have a model of the S4's which has a microphone, but i'm not sure if they would work with the Epic, call them up and find out.
oh, I got my S4's around 60 bucks when they were on sale from vanns or something

sounds like it... they're supposed to come with earphones with a built in mic.
I also got those pair of Klipsch Image S4 headphones too.
Theyre awesome! It is worth investing in them.
So heres the link to vanns.com for these earphones

Theyre $79 right now (i got mine when they were $64 to rub it in haha) but hey at least theyre free shipping and they sound better than $100+ headphones.
If you don't believe me, CNET wrote a review on these and put them on their "must have gadgets" list.
I am also using the Klipsch S4's. Fantastic headphones, especially if you ditch the stock rubber tips and get a pair of complys
Just in case this is helpful to someone searching, our phones use a headset with a 4-pole 3.5mm male plug. iPhone's also use this plug, as do many other phones.
What you may not know is that they are not all the same. This kind of connector is called a TRRS connector (tip ring ring shaft or something like that, as opposed to the TRS headset only connectors that have been around forever).
Our phone is arranged as such:
Tip = L
R1 = R
R2 = Mic
S = Ground
an iPhone (and many, many other phones) is:
Tip = L
R1 = R
R2 = Ground
S = Mic
There are adapters if you must have one that is incompatible, but they're a pain in the ass to find and the only ones I've found have been overpriced ($10).
If you use an iPhone headset on our phone, sound will work, but mic will not.
Are there any small adapters that can make it work?

I thought there is a driver on the Epic that detects the headset and configures what signal to send to the corresponding section of the plug.

I'm not so sure this is exactly right... I have an old iphone 3g and an epic 4g, and I have a mic that works on both of them...
Don't bother with the Klipsch s4i, the mic doesnt work on both of my android phones, but the promedia version works fine with my epic/evo. They are around $40 online from tiger direct. I ended up with a pair of Mee m6 with mic. $20 and sound pretty damn good. Built cheap, costs only a little! People on the other end say the mic is crystal clear.

I just tested again with my wife's iPhone 3GS Original headset (has mic, remote, and volume controls). The headset works fine, but the mic, volume, and remote do not work. I did pretty extensive research on it, and found pinouts for both around the web, which my diagram is based on. Perhaps as bighuta says they're supposed to detect but mine doesn't detect properly? Are you *sure* the mic works? Maybe we have different models and bighuta is right about detection, but the particular model of headset my wife's iphone came with (having volume controls) messes with the detection?

They definitely work with regular headsets (no mic) but that's to be expected if you consider that the connector for ground is in the same spot regardless of whether there is a mic or not... the detector would detect if there's a dead short between mic/ground, and if so, assume it doesn't have a mic. I am not aware of them being able to detect a mic/ground swap, however, and have a functioning mic--and my own testing appears to confirm that it does not (or at least can't detect and work with an iPhone 3gs headset).

Assuming I'm correct (which there appears to be some controversy over) then a connector that swaps the ground/mic pins (shaft and ring2) would allow a galaxy s headset to work for an iphone OR an iphone headset to work with a galaxy s (the same connector would work for either task). Unfortunately that item you linked is unclear as to what it does... whether it actually swaps R2 and shaft or if it's just a TRS (3 pin) to TRRS (4 pin) converter (almost entirely unnecessary, and certainly won't solve your issue).
I did find a converter in my searching but it was $15, way more than I'd pay for something so simple. If you do have a headset that doesn't work though, it might be worth doing that or building your own connector... if you're handy with a soldering iron and can find a TRRS male and female plug, that would be trivial to construct.
Sorry I couldn't offer more assistance.
I tried using a simple pair of earphones with mic designed for the iphone and they worked beautifully.
I also tried using regular headphones without a mic and using the default phone mic to talk and guess what? It worked!! Guess they finally fixed it in froyo.

Car dock with pogo

I need a car dock for my shiny new HTC One XL. I was thinking about getting the iBolt car dock but should I wait until someone released a car dock that uses pogo? Will this ever happen?
Thanks.
Pogo? most likely not because pogo's are for people to use and jump around with.
Kidding aside, there will be one coming out. And as a matter of fact check htcpedia and the international one has it (except its not released yet).
If you aren't in a rush then I would wait for one that uses the POGO pins. Given it will cost more probably but it will be less wear on your charging port.

Not for the XL/AT&T, for some reason HTC doesn't want to make an official one
Does that imply that there is one for the OneX international?
Not to like throw out something crazy, but do the pogo pins act as just a typical USB port? Charging and all? I have a double din headunit size, and I replaced it with a single din unit plus one of those empty trays. It's the perfect size for a my HOX slide all the way back. I was considering buying pogo pins, then using a little manufacturing, have some holes cut in the tray where my HOX would line up, then put a rail on the side so it stays in place. So then when I was in my car, I could just drop my device into said tray, get charing and audio right there. Kinda hard to visualize just from text, but it's a cool idea I promise.
Far out there, but I think I'd save a few bucks. My only problem is that 99% of stereo head units don't have a connection protocol for Android devices as opposed to iPods, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love my One X, but I still use the dock in my car for my iPhone 4, simply because it's easier.

LeEco Type C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter: How Long Will It Last?

Hey all. The LeEco Pro3 is my first phone without a headphone jack, and I'm really curious about one thing: the included USB-C 3.5mm headphone adapter. The build quality doesn't seem particularly great so I'm guessing it'll break quite easily (I hope not).
Now, I stuff my phone into my pocket all the time with the headphone adapter connected, and it's always stuck at an angle. Unfortunately it has to be like that for me to fit it into my pockets, otherwise it dangles out and stays unprotected. I travel in bad weather (live in Canada), so I absolutely need everything to stay inside my pockets or my electronics will get wet. Sadly, the headphone adapter gets bent every time.
So I'm wondering... how long did your headphone adapter stay alive? When did it stop working? Is it still working? And can anyone recommend me other USB-C headphone adapters that work with LeEco phones? I do have a spare original LeEco adapter to use if mine breaks (from the Le2) but I'd rather buy other ones instead.
Thanks!
Mine lasted a week or so.. but i knew it was going to break fast so i bought 6 more type c to 3.5 adapters from aliexpress at 1 usd. the only problem is that the channel pan is inverted but meh.. it was 1 usd so i can't ask much haha . my recommendation is to buy a lot of cheap adapters and use them freely without the constant fear of having just one and trying not to break it
A week? Wow. But yeah, I recently replaced the OEM adapter which looked like it was about to break. Horrible build quality on these. Does the OEM one have a built-in DAC, and do all headphone jack adapters come with one? IDK.
I bought the VOXLINK adapter thinking it would let me charge and listen to music at the same time, but when doing so, it produces a static noise over audio, so it's impossible to enjoy music unless you're listening to a loud and heavy song that muffles the static well.
Why is it so hard to find a decent USB-C headphone jack dongle. Especially with phones ditching the poor headphone jack left and right.

Link for the 6 adapters for $1?
I mean if you want a quality one. I'd buy Google's adapter
Mine died about 4 weeks after I got the phone. Bought a few adapters from xiaomi which look a lot sturdier. They were about 3€ per piece on Aliexpress.
Huh, interesting. Yeah, I have little faith in adapters that only use that soft rubbery stuff to cover cables. Google's adapter also uses that material, and it's really no good for longevity. My Voxlink adapter is still going strong, though it's way too bulky to use. So I bought a cheaper one that uses the same material for $1, and although it's slightly too long, it's sturdy. But I miss how small and compact the original LeEco adapter is.
Mine is still working, more than a year old now. Used almost every day.
Does the adapter that comes with the phone support headphones that have a 3 button control (Vol+ / Vol- / Play-Pause) and the microphone? I have ordered the phone but I am not sure if it will work with my Bose headphones that has the 3 buttons.

In case I need to buy a new adapter in the future, what is the best way to find one that will work for the Le Pro 3? I have read that some adapters work for some phones but not all. I have seen a lot of adapters that are listed to be compatible with the Pixel and Moto Z but it doesn't mention the Le Pro 3.
My adapter is perfectly fine after 8 months
Mine also works. I got the phone around November 2016.
Audio adapters, splitters or dedicated USB-C DACs known to work w/ Le Pro3?
Hey everyone, I know this thread has been inactive for two years, but has anyone tried more USB-C to 3.5mm adapters, USB-C splitters (audio jack + USB-C for charging and audio simultaneously) and/or dedicated USB-C DACs with the Le Pro3? I'm considering buying a sturdy audio adapter/splitter (like the ones from Ugreen or Baseus), or the DDHIFI TC35B, but I don't want to waste my money into something that will not work properly (or won't work at all) with the Le Pro3. From there, I ask you this question, I'd greatly appreciate if you could tell me of any adapter/splitter/DAC that's known to work with the LEX720/722/727.
Thanks in advance.

Possible fix for Bluetooth Audio quality KGL units

I recently braved it and opened my unit. Mine's a bit more complicated since it has a DVD drive so space is tight and an extra step was required.
Anyway, I always had poor bluetooth audio, lots of distortion on the high range I ended up just using an AUX in audio on the device.
Looking at the BT+WiFi antenna I was skeptical about the quality of just a wire soldered to the Realtek chip.
Having an old antenna from a WiFi router handy I removed the existing antenna and used on of the holes that was free because I didn't choose the TV option to fasten it.
Initial impressions is that the quality is much better albeit still some very minor distortion but it's not as noticeable as before. Haven't checked the signal quality or speed using BT and WiFi but in theory it should be much better.
Just my 2c and if you have the parts lying around you might as well give it a go.

I think I forgot an after photo, but where the black antenna cable is I re-soldered an antenna with a screw connector, you can see it on the right in the second photo next to the GPS antenna. Before it was just a cable hanging out of that hole.
hmmm i have an XRC unit and i went the method where i unsoldered the internal unit and plugged in a comfast unit. No difference there. Might try this next but i have a feeling something else is going on.
