Proporta or Innopocket alu-case? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

Hi!
I am looking for an aluminium case for my XDAII and I wonder if there is any difference between these two models from Proporta and Innopocket:
http://www.proporta.com/detail.asp?id=624
http://www.innopocket.com/EShop/Main/product.php?ID=102&name=Others
They look exactly the same.
Which one is to be preferred?
Thanks alot
Dominik

its the same one....pretty sure, but I must warn you that you will notice a significant loss of signal strength when using it in areas that are already weak. I have been using it for 6 weeks now, love it, but gives me problems.....

I have it to
Yes you have signal loss, but i wouldn´t say significant. I also looked at both cases, and couldn´t tell if they were different, so i bought the proporta one.
I am very happy with it

The Innopocket case allows you to use a WiFi SD card while the XDAII is enclosed.

The Innopocket case was cheaper....
And the signal loss is not that bad. Love the case!
Wouter

Innopocket
Hi!
Ok, thank you. I will go with the Innopocket then.
Best regards
Dominik

Is it? I don't think so!!

Proporta metal case
I have this one and I'm full satisfy. I use it more than the leather one.

do any metal cases have a belt clip?

Proporta offer it as extre

I order an Alu case today over HERE.
This case has an opening so you can see who is calling without opening the case, and you can accept calls without opening the case. It also includes a belt clip. Plus for 22,49 euros is not expansive at all
I hope its monday soon, than I'll get this case delivered at my house... mmm

to VW_ELM in regrads to the ALU case with Caller window
Could you please let us know if reception will go down with using this case?
Thank you.
I can believe that somebody finally decided to do ALU case with window on conveyer level

@ noviur
Sure, I'll post some experience as soon as I got the case...
Yesterday I posted a question to see if someone has allready some experience with this case. And it seems there is someone who allready do. If you can't wait till monday, you might ask to this guy. His nick is escape.
See this LINK to my other post

thank you...
the most important for me is the receiption aspect....
will wait for your review

@ noviur
i received my case this morning.
I really loves this case.
I made some pictures and e sort of mini review for people who are interested. But I don't have any webspace to upload it.
If someone is interested in uploading it for me, I can email it to him/her.

how is the resceiption? are you loosing any bars comparably to using i-mate without case?

The receiption is perfect. I have a picture where you can see my signal strenght trought the window, it was 91%... pretty good, no?

Sounds good . . . but what is it OUTSIDE the case at the same location? Comparisons at other locations?

Euh what you mean?? I don't understand sorry for my bad English
I have pictures if you like, if someone wants to post/host them I'll send it.

What BRosenow asked is the same what I asked earlier
You mentioned that reception is 91% IN the case. What would be reception at the same place WITHOUT the case?
Really appreciate your patients

XDA II Cases

So far I have seen the Vaja case, which is only in black leather available and has no hole for the camera. Then there's the Piel Frama case in several styles and colours and with a hole and with a nice, removable belt clip. Pretty pricy though, both Piel and Vaja are around € 60,00 which is heavy.
And there is the Proporta alu case, pretty looking and nicely priced at about € 35 but I don't like alu cases because the lit is always in the way.
Pretty poor collection, so far....... I am considering the Piel case but I think if I wait a bit maybe there will be other, better priced cases on the market. I know we had a big discussion about the "ideal" case for an XDA a while ago here but I don't think a perfect case for the XDA has ever been made.
Now the makers are starting all over again with the same conventional designs. I wonder if they have learnt anything from the former discussions here.
Anyhow, before my rant becomes too much of a drag, I just wondered what you are using at the moment for your XDAII (Or Qtek 2020/MDAII/Imate). :?: I am using the stock case as long as I havn't bought a better alternative.
I'm using the provided case for my brand new xda II (it was delivered yesterday and I pleased as punch with it!!!). That's only until the Piel case I ordered last night arrives. I really hate the case that came with the xda II. It looks cheap, doesn't fit it very well and is a real struggle to get the flap closed without pressing any of the buttons!!! Not to mention the lack of credit card slots!
http://www.proporta.com/detail.asp?id=624
heard people speak highly about these alu cases
Go to ebcases.com and request them make a case for the phone. I really like the case they have for the XDA and would love to get them to modify it just a bit for the XDA II. Maybe if enough of us request it.
I've bought the proporta one,
Looks very pretty,
Not heavy,
It has a removable belt clip.
All the buttons are accessible except those for calendar and contact.
SD slots are well designed, inserting and ejection are very easy.
Pictures...
Got myself the Proporta case, looks smart and is slim. Cost a litlle more then € 35. I payed about € 50 incl Tax and shipping. ( tot the Netherlands)
I'm waiting for the Vaja I-Volution case ; I had one for my XDA I , fantastic indeed, and want one for my XDA II

Indeed, a great case! I had one for my xda too........bit expensive though at 115 dollars.
The second setback of the I-volution is that, if you are using the xda as a phone it looks like you are talking into a big, leather, black shoe with the hard fliptop standing upright.

Well, converted in Euro's that's € 60,00 incl int.shipping with UPS. I received mine only 2 days after ordering. It's expensive, but it's a damn fine quality case.......had one before on my xda as well.
goztreh or JJJ have you noticed any difference in siganal quality for calls or with blue tooth with the Proporte ALU case??
I am very interested in this case but read somewhere that it can affect reception, and was wodering if either of you noticed any problem with this.
Currently use the standard leather case, and after a while it start looking a bit cheap, as you constantly have to take it out for charging.
And i have noticed that it is not so much secure in the case as it was new.
I am also looking to upgrade to the proporta case. but like others a bit worry about the lost signal strenght and the inherrent battary use
So please let us have your opinion
Is it my eyes or is there a big hole in that XDA2 as shown on the propota website where the contacts button should be
look here for the new proporta case, very cheap too.

Hi guys,
What I read is that the Alu case realy reduces the signal strength and that is a very bad thing. My problem now is that I think the alu case ads less bulk but the phone strength is too important for me. I came across the Active Armor case and that realy looks interesting. Here is a review for a 2210 because there is no case (yet) for the MDA II. http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/activearmor-hp2200-review.html
I sent them a message to ask if they have planned a case for the MDA II in the feature and as soon as I get a reply, I'll post it here. I think it looks like a good sollution: very well protected and not too big. But I think they have to change the flip cover otherwise you can't hear your speaker...
Wouter
Why does nobody mention Krusell ?
http://www.krusell.se/handit.asp
it's there for the MDA/XDA II also !
Hi Johan,
Which one will fit the MDA II. I can't tell for sure on their site.
Wouter
I've never used any cases and keep my PPC in my pants pocket, but I really like the protection cases provide, as well as integrating my Wallet into it.
This may sound stupid, but how do you use the cradle with the case on? Or do you just charge with a USB Cable? If you use the cradle, do you have to take it off everytime you sync? I take my device in and out of the cradle 10-20 times a day, so I would love to have a case that works with the cradle.
Thanks.

A very cool mod to an Alu XDAii case

I gave up using my Alu case because of drop in power. I had seen another post from someone that changed their case but this one is really nice.
If there are any of the case makers that look at this forum then take this as a wish list of what I (we?) would like to see in the future.
http://www.pda4thai.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=22
This looks really cool! Thumbs up!
The only drawback seems to be the gap between the custom case and the hardware buttons, it seems you have to put your finger (or thumb ) deep into the holes of the case to reach the buttons...
This is the first time I heard of casemodding a PocketPC I am curious if there are any other contributions!
but that case is not really going to protect the screen also i doubt it would inc the signal strength all that much more then the std alu one
As the XDAII has no antenna, are there signal problem with this case ?
Drop in Power with XDAII and alloy case
I would have to confirm that there is most definitely a drop in signal strength when using an alloy case and the XDAII. This will be usually at least one bar on the signal meter, and can be verified by just inserting the thing and watching.
Given the lack of an external antenna, this is not surprising. I just wish I'd thought about it before lashing out 50 bucks!!!
The Thai casemod would help with the caller ID problem, but unless someone has delved inside the case of one of these to find the antenna then I would say that an alloy case is near useless unless you live next to a base station.
I would have thought that a well designed alloy case could include a connection to the external aerial socket on the back of the XDA with a flip up aerial on the case.....
Cheers
Funny, I don't seem to have the same problem. Full signal, and still full bars after putting it in the case. But i'll try checking with Phone Dashboard as it has a percentage of the signal displayed.
In the event that there's no loss, either the new radio-stack COULD actually affect the signal performance, or you were just in a borderline signal area when you put the jacket on.
In any case, i think it's still worth it as it really protects the PDA. I mean take the free the leather case: it falls on any of it's corners, and you'll have cosmetic issues immediately.
The Alu case however, i only spotted one weak angle of falling, and its like a 1/100 chance to fall exactly like that (assuming you drop it in flat surfaces) that would have to be TOP first, and a little tilted to the back (where the SD card /antenna cover is exposed)
So overall, I think dropping a bar is worth it (if you are one of those who actually suffer from this) as you can always take out the XDAII when in critical need of signal.
Guys,
I am in the market for an alu case for the XDAII. Are you talking about this one ?
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=109749
Thanks,
Rob.
yes, that's excactly it
Other ally case issues
The modification looks good - where can I get a Cover Pack for iPAQ 3870 ?
Another thing that would help would be to use voice dialling - because the modification still doesn't help for making a call, unless you have dialled it before closing the case. However, I can't seem to find a voice dialling setting. Is there one?
The other problem with the case is it taking two hands to open. Please let me know if you find one that has a nice swish press-catch that can be operated with one hand... Also one that you can put in the cradle while in its case
There is also a strand about the case in 'Using it'. W were talking about how slippery the case is, and raises the likelihood of dropping it in the first place. Someone suggests something from Egrips.com that will help...
Incidentally, I don't lose any signal bars with it in the case.

Alu Case
I Have got the alu case for my XDAII there id definatley a signal drop when i put it into the case but it still looks good i guess
It not only cut radio signal, it kills the bluetooth connections too. Good looking but not too functional.

plastic case comming?

http://www.pdagold.com/articles/detail.asp?a=148
there is one for ipaq maybe one will come for xda1 and 2 aswell
my bad it is already here

WooHoo!!! This is the case I have been looking for. I had seen one of the Crystal Clear jobbies for the iPaq 19xx series recently and really liked the fit and appearance.
I actually already have a Proporta Alu case but the impact on the singal strength was too high and I just don't use it anymore.
I have placed my order, which is showing as out of stock, and will now wait patiently for my new Crystal Clear case to arrive.
(The international shipping is a BARGIN!!!)
Please tell me if you are satisfied with it, im thinking of ordering it to...
I was expecting the signal strenght to be low, with the alucase. So im glad i didnt order, untill someone made a complain about it
i'm waiting for danielalvers to buy it and tell us how it is
The latest update from Proporta
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your mail.
Proporta's Crystal case (XDAII) is currently in development. We are
expecting them to arrive with us by the begining of June, and will send your
product out to you immediately they arrive with us .
I hope this clears things up and many thanks for your patience.

Looks like a wait of a few weeks at least.
Umm, but i got this answer yesterday!
Yes, Proporta's Crystal cases are in stock and delivery to Sweden should take around 3-4 working days. These cases provide crystal clear protection that's unbelievably tough and leaves your PDA on display.

but the mail which said end of june had the name xda2 in it did your mail have that aswell ?
i canceled that order, and went for the Aluminium Case instead..
Atleast now i know what im getting
Skenliv
As mentioned I too purchased the alu case from Proporta. Unfortunately I found it also had a considerable impact on the signal strength so have stopped using it.
I hope it works out for you
hrm, proporta promised that it wouldnt have that impact on the signal strenght... Well if it does, i want all my money back and another case.
I have a metal case, love the secuirty, hate always having to open the flap to see what is going on ie. making a call or receiving a call.
I'm going to try out a plastic case when the come available locally
Hi guys,
I just ordered one yesterday. I've got no idea when it will delivered. I'll post my findings here.
Wouter
I´d be writing a review as soon as i have the time. I have got my Aluminium Case now.
To follow this post
I use a Proporta alu case for the moment.
I'm interrested with the cristal case, so I'm waiting about Wouter'answer
i ordered it aswell but my order is just hanging with out of stock
maybe they dont have it at all and are just probing the market and will make it if they get enough orders ?
I use the proporta alu case at the mo, but i ordered the crystal case 6 weeks ago and they keep telling me there is no stock and should be in stock soon.
Hi,
I'm too waiting for A plastic case.
For information, there is another plastic case manufactured by Javoedge (who allready are selling xdaII JavoSkin case). It's named JAVOClearCase.
You'll get more info on Javoedge site, here.
Unfortunately, it's not allready available (can see it at the bottom of the page). Also coming soon...
Serge
I've canceled my Clear case order with proporta.
Ordered 18-06
Round 01-07 they promised to start delivering round 15-7
last week they said it would take until end of july
What I hate most is that they only inform you when you supplied payment details and confirmed the order. (good thing is that they dont let you pay in advance!)
I'l just wait which one comes first: JAVOEdge or Proporta and order again.
Indeed international shipping with Proporta is a bargain.
ive been waiting since they 1st advertised them looks like they lied and aint even began shipping yet still waiting to this day
I'm still waiting as well. I had originally been told by Proporta that they would ship at the start of July and now I have been told it will be near the end of July.
I would cancel my order immediately if I could find another company selling a similar product. I guess I am just going to have to stick with the standard case unit my order gets filled.

Found the perfect XDA II case...then lost it...

I was on a plane this morning and as I walked down the aisle I saw someone reading a magazine with an ad for the perfect XDA II case. Unfortunately, I must have read the URL wrong. I thought it was "sanocases.com" but that doesn't work, nor a couple of similar things I tried.
Does that name ring a bell with anyone? It's a case much like the EB case for the XDA I, which doesn't have the annoying snap strap on it.
I have a vague memory of a screen protector sold under the "Sando" brand name but cant find anything on google.

Serge
Thanks guys, but no dice. The Javo is interesting though, I might just get one to test drive. Similar to the protection of the aluminum case (which I mostly love) except without the signal interference problem.
how about www.senacases.com?
Unfortunately, I don't see a XDA II case by them - or at least, not on their website.
I think that's it! But I could have sworn it was an XDA II that was in the ad photo. Damn, my eyes must have been really bad that early in the morning.
Founding the right case for me wasn't difficult.
I just take the ones that cames with the XDAII and cut off the flap.
No regrets
Since you seem to be looking for something protective and not limiting radio reception, have a look at the Proporta Clearcase (name doesnt sound like "sano" . . . )
www.proporta.com
Case is excellent, because its 'plastic' (durable though) it will get scratches, but that what its for.
Finaly see who is calling without opening the case
Only need to open it is to write on it.
I think the case (when closed) is stable enough to protect the XDA2 (or MDAII, although tha case was designed for the plain XDA2/iMate case, the T-Mobile case fits too with all button available without opeing clearcase), but I did not dare to test a drop from the table . . .
I just ordered the Javo clear case, which seems the same. I agree that it seems ideal, as I love the protection of the metal case but not the slight signal degradation.
Javo clearcase IS the same as proporta Clearcase.
Shipping is cheaper with Proporta (at least in Europe)
I have one of the plastic cases and I love it. I've had it about a month now and the case has a minor scratch on it, well, more a chunk from my keys. Well worth it
Thank's for the link's , do any of you guy's know where i could find a case for the xda 2 which is deep enough to take a backpack as well . cheers steve
I have a Krussel drop-in case which would probably work with the backpack. I use that now because I use the car kit, so an attached case doesn't make sense.
I have buyed all cases available for my Qtek2020.
Silicon case, no good for me, after 1 week is broken and the screen is not protected.
Metal case, the door is uncomfortable, and for me is not good when the phone receive the call because i open the door, is very strong.
Case in policarbonete clear, very best solution, very strong and comfortable, I prefere this one.
if the screen were not protected then you were not using this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20484
but it will break if you take it out of the case too often which is why i dont use the cradle anymore
there are many many many cases and i doubt you tried them all ....
my poly cased died after a drop
and it was troublesome to open compared to the silicone i use now
silicon == melted sand you make chips from
silicone == rubber
I found this one http://www.cases.com/xda2.htm last days but I am still looking for one than I can use with the backpack.
See you
The best case ever!!!!
Finally I found it!!!!

Had mine a few days now (thanks for the ebay link ) and don't really notice it too much. If I make a call, I usually fold the flap behind the handset anyway - the extra bulk actually makes if feel more comfortable/secure to hold.

It sits in a recessed case with support at the top and bottom and feels securely attached. It does stay in if dropped (from first-hand experience ).
Just ordered one, thanks for the info!
I accidentally purchased one of these from the French eBay.. My French isn't great and hit the commit to buy by accident lol. So it should be arriving soon so I'll add my 2 pennies worth then!
Right, the case arrived and I must say it is very good.
Phone is held in securely and feels well protected. It is also still very slim in the pocket which is a massive bonus.
I'd definitely reccomend it!
Two other official cases if you prefer slip cases or want to wear the phone to your belt:

I went ahead and purchased this though. I'll let you all know how it fits when I receive it. The listing states that it's for the Omnia 7, but if you at the image closely, clearly there's a Galaxy S phone in the case. I emailed the seller just in case to see if it would work with the Omnia 7 and he said it would.

Unfortunately the seller of that item does not ship to the USA!
I was so excited about the pouch that I failed to read the entire listing.
The seller is going to sell me the case after all. Apparently it was sent, so I should be expecting it next week. Will provide pictures and brief review when I receive case!
Apologies for the third post in a row, but the seller sent me an email with a tracking number for the pouch, but because it's in French I have no idea where to go input the tracking number on the website! I tried my best at translating... but no luck.

Thank you for that oweng.
Fortunately, my pouch arrived today. And I must say that I love it! The pouch itself feels very stiff and a bit hard, and my Omnia 7 fits perfectly snug in the pouch. It literally fits with the Omnia 7 perfectly. The phone does not move around when in the pouch. Also, I tried using the pouch with i9000 Galaxy and it fits well with that phone as well. Here are some pictures:

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
You have my thanks for sharing these pictures with us mate
The pouch looks solid. I just do not like the loose thing at the bottom right (second photo). Is it easily removable?
