Resco Audio Recorder - exporting RAF sound files on a PC - General Topics

Hello all,
I have been trialling Resco Audio Recorder (http://www.resco-net.com) to record meetings on the XDA, and I've found it to be quite well suited to this task.
I have discovered, however, that should a meeting extend beyond an hour or so, the resulting file cannot be converted from the proprietary RAF file type to WAV or anything usable with the built-in export function due to space concerns.
I found a newsgroup posting (http://www.ppczone.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=143) which mentioned a PC export utility from Resco which I have managed to get (attached).
If you record meetings, I can recommend this product and the attached RAF-to-WAV conversion utility.
Codenix.

Thanks for the tip, oh yea and the file!

THANK YOU!!!
Thank you Codenix
I had recorded over 3 hours worth of some important discussions and not knowing that resco has a 34 min 40-odd seconds limit for exporting .raf audio into mp3/wav. It is still evident in their v4.0+. Their forums weren't helpful addressing this issue either or very few people actually experienced this.
The utility you attached was a life-saver! Thanks!
I have been able to salvage my .raf

I found a newsgroup posting (http://www.ppczone.net/forum/showthr...p?threadid=143) which mentioned a PC export utility from Resco which I have managed to get (attached).
Thanks for the tip,

Thank you thank you thank you very very much. This is really important and useful. Thanks a lot.

Windows PSR.exe ...everyone's new best friend

Hi all, so I have found out about this F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C (yes all caps to emphasize it's fantacticness) called "PSR.exe" found in Vista and Windows 7
PSR.exe stands for "Problem Screen Recorder" and it does more than just that.
To begin:
Start > PSR.exe > Enter ... the show begins
I'm a PC, so I love this feature.
Videos are great, but they seem to always be inconvenient to make and edit, and frequently the video seems to contain many long waiting parts.
with PSR you can start it up, go through activities, and then stop it, and it saves your file as a MHTML file abd really low file size.
There is also more great things about this....
It records your activities and types them up for you
It highlights the area of focus automatically
It can be played as a slideshow
It saves as a zip file
You can still edit the shots and add comments
Now not only is this great for someone to record problems and show you, but the reverseis true...you can record "How To's" much easier and quicker and post guides.
Combine it with the Free Sparus EveryWan Personal edition WinMo Controller/viewer, and you can show someone how to cook, install, etc.etc.etc...
Take a look at this quick example
wow, thats nifty.

Looking for a speaking ebook reader

Hi,
Does such a PocketPC application exist:
An ebook reader, capable of handling at least *.TXT files, that shows the text on the screen like any other ebook reader, but featuring like a play button to read the text with syntesized voice?
Even better would be to be able to output that voice through a bluetooth headset or carkit.
I read a lot of ebooks, but obviously while i.e. driving, it is not possible to do so. Instead of hearing radio or trying to burn an audio CD with rendered reading (such software exists for PC's), I would love to have the book read to me by my PDA.
I have searched Google for such an application, but did not found what I am looking for... Any ideas?
Cheers,
vma
TapText makes some text-to-speech products that I think can be paired with a reader and read audibly. They even have a trial you can download that allows for testing a small excerpt at a time (160 characters, I think) but you have to listen to the admonition and demo prompt prior to hearing your text. You can disable this annoyance by (here's a thought) purchasing the product. I am a bit in a rush but wanted to get this out to you so that you had an answer to your question. If you have trouble finding this app. please PM me and I'll send you a copy of the trial cab. I may also have some alternatives for you as well.
On another point. Look into GoogleVoice as an alternative option for visual voice mail. I use voice recognition and text-to-speech, as well as dictation software quite a bit. So I'll have to dig up some of my old cabs for you. Many are now quite hard to find, so contact me directly for copies of the same. Happy to share. Gotta run.

Sms Export

I've quested a long time to find a program that just works for this exact purpose. I've pulled my hair out trying to convert csv files in excel and coming up short with random programs that are shareware for the simple act of transferring text files from my phone to my computer - a feature that should be a no-brainer for any and all mobile devices. This program does this so elegantly (and is, AFAIK, freeware). Hie thee hence, ye'all who are searching for an sms export program go here: http://www.smsexport.com/ and be amazed.
This program will take your entire sms archive and put it into a text file. It won't put it into any fancy dandy exotic file that you can't read or have to sort or cut you off with only a few txt messages "for a trial". This is the real deal.
If this is a re-post, double post, known info, w/e then I do apologize. But having scoured these forums and not finding too many complete solutions I figured I'd oblige. Also be sure to choose the PDA version.
Discuss.
Very cool prog!
I also searched for a possibility to save sms on my pc

App to view tif files

Does anyone know of an app that will allow me to view tif files?
My efaxes come over via tif format and while I can read all my pdf and doc files that I get emailed for work, I still cant view my efaxes. I have done a search but it appears that all the image viewing programs support: bmp, jpg, gif, png but that is about it.
TIA

read somewhere beamreader from the market can read tifs
I read that too, but it appears that that feature was in a pre release version, current version (or at least the free trial, and I'm not about to drop $4 till I know for sure) only seems to support pdf files, if I browse to folder with a tif in there it doesn't show it, and when clicking on a tif file in a file explorer there is no option to open it with beamreader. I head that the 3D gallery and astro image viewer work but they only allow viewing of the 1st page, but in my tests it would just show a black screen, either way not very useful.
From what I've read, as I am in the same boat, there is no native / built-in ability at the android system level to interpret / display .tif format files.
I actually wrote a filter in gmail that forwards my faxes to my home email server, where, upon receipt, a .procmail script launches, uses imagemagick to convert the .tif to .jpg, and then sends the attachment back to myself, just so I can view the fax from my phone.
I had thought about doing the same thing, so I would probably just use a pdf printer to convert it, since I believe a single pdf file would be better able to handle multiple pages rather than having multiple jpg files.
Actually in a pinch I did discover this: http://www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/
Coupled with Opera Mini takes about 2 mins to get a pdf of the file emailed to my phone.

That's the beauty of ImageMagick, between that and ffmpeg, there's not much you can't convert.
My needs were slightly different, but I'd be remiss if I didn't reply and say that with the simple addition of 'GhostScript' installed on the same machine, ImageMagick will auto-convert a multi-page tiff to a multi-page PDF, no questions asked.
resco photo manager and pocket xnviewer can read tif.
And the Resco photo manager works so smooth, but it can not bookmark a tag layer,so if you next time read the tif file ,it begins from tag 1. And does not have a go to function. If some one can solve these problem I'd rather chose to spend some time converting pdf files to tif files.
Sorry,I did not notice the question is about android phone. But some one geek can help me?

[Q] Share/Send recorded sound

hi,
i used an existing sound recorder and implmed, one by myselft.
There are some samples form MS, how to do sound recording too.
Now i want to send the recorded sound to another user's android phone.
Should be simple
- Send as email attachment
- Send via bluetooth
I did not find a program on the marketplace and trying to implent this by myself i found no example, how to do this. In this forum and on other resources, i read, that it currenty is not possible, to send email attachments programatically.
Is there really no way, to do such a simple task, as sending/sharing an audio file (after converting the recorded byte-array to .wav format) to another phone via email or bluetooth ?!
regards,
hannes
E-Mail attachment shouldnt be hard but WP7 does not support bluetooth file transport
Forget about bluetooth (until MS releases some kind of BT API). As for email attachment, you have a two options:
- implement smtp/exchange client by yourself;
- use (create) http "proxy" service on the external server (you sending audio data and additional parameters, and service forms the message with attachment).
Both ways a really not easy and expensive.
Send me a PM and I'll write something and upload it to the marketplace tonight.

The problem is: An email attachment in fact IS hard (impossible), without using some external service.

Thank your for your response!
This is quiete the same, what i found out too. It is possible (i am a developer and i can host such a sevice on my domain) but that's not the way i like to do it.
I play in a band and recorded some demo with the phone and now want to send this recording to my band colleagues but it was not possible to do this.
This should be as simple as "open a bluetooth connection" + send.
On a windows phone, store it in the "media collection", on other phones, store it on a selectable location on the file system.
This is really anoying.
I like the platform and like developing for it but not beeing able to do such simple things...it's hard to argue, why WP is better than f.e. android.

I think, i don't get the point of your reply.
What do you want to write - a program, that does does recording audio + email it to other users?
I am searching for a solution, how to develop this by myself, not for a program on the marketplace.

hannes

Oh...and I had already started programming it. Oh well. Basically do this:
Upload to SkyDrive using the API or...
Create a WCF Service that allows you to send a file stream
Have the files stream get written to the server as a GUID
Return link to file
Send link via e-mail
Have file expire after 24/hrs or something
hi,
thank you, for your response.
...and starting programming on it so fast.
(if you really started programming it - put it on marketplace, i am sure, many people would like souch a tool)
The "problem" with this approach (and email too) is:
- i need an internet connection to upload
- the people that want to download the file, need an internet connection
- there are still people, that don't have an internet flatrate for their phone or any internet connection (or have to use roming, if not at home) and jus say "..hey, you recorded it - send it to me via bluetooth".
Seem's, the steps you discribed, are the only option, to do it. The phone i used 5 year ago, could send pictures and audio recording via bluetooth and since the mango update is currently released and doest not contain an api for bluetooth access, i think it will not be released soon, if ever.
In another posting i read: "I take a picture with me and my friends and i can't send them over the bluetooth. They have cheap dumbphones and I have Omnia 7 and I'm embarrassed. Bluetooth filetransfer is essencial feature."
Ok, this is "offtopic" now, sorry but anyway thank you for your responses.
The steps you explained are possible for sure, but in my opinion a bit "much work", for simply sending some data != text.
HannesB, I agree with you, it's kinda annoying. But, probably, MS will open some new APIs in future (WP7 is based on WinCE so it's not such a big deal, code/drivers are already exists for that platform). Don't forget - WP7 platform is still too new.
I have an app called CopyCat. It will let you do recordings (and change the playback as well).
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/search?q=copycat
It will let you store to the Public folder of your DropBox account.
As previously mentioned, unfortunately there is no way to attach WAV files to an email currently.
Hope this can be of help.
Why are you guys complaining about a function that you can have with evernote you can record sound and save it on your evernote account over your windows phone
