Is there a SW available on the XDAII that allows me to send a SMS msg to a group? I used to be available to do it on my ipaq using simple SMS.
I select category say "personal" from my contacts and viola, the msg will be sent.

Confirming "Simple SMS" is not compatible with the XDA II?
Yes it is not working. Tried it.
Ok thanks, I guess the hunt is still on then!
You can send sms to more than one person at atime by using the same syntax as email. Separate each phone numnber with a ;
I use Pocket Informant 5 on my XDA II and can select multiple phone numbers from a single contacat category and send the same SMS to more than one person using this method.
Ed
on my xda i can go into the sms tray and pick new
and tab the

AFAIK you can either select multiple recipients from you contacts list or you could set up a contact named "my-group" or so and put all the phone numbers in the mobile field, seperated by semicolons. It works here, but I have not yet tried more than a dozen at once.

How did you do it Martin? I created a new contact and put multiple of mobile phone numbers saparated by semicolons, but the semicolons don't appear on the SMS program. In other words, the SMS program removes all semicolons and appends all the numbers.
tried this, but when i send a message I get the error:
"You cannot send this message as both an SMS and an e-mail message. Please remove either the SMS or the e-mail address and send again"
Needless to say, I created a new contact with two telephone numbers in the mobile phone section seperated with one ;

group sms
hi guys
i tried to do this as well but it didnt work i had a nokia comunicator and i was able to do this with no problems.

Thanks guys for the replies. I guess I have to live with sending SMS messages manually
It is really strange that an expensive pda+phone with a powerful operating system doesn't have this simple functionality.
I might sound strange, but this function is very important to me coz I send an average of 8 SMS messages to a group of people on daily basis.
I miss my T610
gropu sms
i agree kufi these phones arent cheap.
when i do into my sms box and say new i can add more contacts and seperate them with ; without any problem
havent tried sending it though so i'm not sure if it would fail but i can add more then one contact thats for sure
Yes this is how I do it too; the manual way which is time consuming and annoying. The optimal way is to assign a group of contacts under one name, but as you can see, it is not possible.
Hoping an application will be avaialable soon, coz this is driving me crazy.
group sms
I got this software, I think it works great. you have to first creat a group list, when saving the number, you have to save it in the group. I don't have any link for it, but its group sms ver1.1 by shailesh ashar, google it, or find the cab laying around here. hope it helped.

please help me....
i am using O2 XDA Flame model, i need to know if there is any application for forwarding sms from inbox to group contacts by selecting the group name. i have used software for sending new sms to group contacts but have not seen any application helping to forward inbox sms to group contacts... hope i have clearly mentioned my query.
thank you.
If you are sending the same group of people text messages I send the message in the normal way - this requires you adding each of the recipients one at a time.
When you are finished and you send the mail - go back into your messages and select the 'sent' option form the drop down. You can now highlight the recipients and use the 'copy' option.
Then, go to the 'NOTES' section of your XDA and paste in the list and save it using whatever title you want.
Every time you want to send a message to these recipients, open your 'NOTES' and copy/paste the list into your message - it is not perfect...but it does work and does save time.
I have only just joined the forum. Anyone still having problems sending texts to multiple contacts on you htc tp2 try this I think it may help you.
Create a new contact any name and type the contacts numbers in as laid out below.
12345678999>; <12345678999>; <12345678999>; and so on. You need six spaces between each number, no left side arrow in front of the first number as the phone puts that in by default and no right side arrow after the last number. I have tried it with upto ten numbers no probs it might work with more.
Also if if one of the contacts in your group sent you the original message you wont wanna send it back to him so if you hit menu then hit check names hey presto it will put all the contact names in relevant to the numbers, touch on the one you want to delete and then hit your back space key and its gone. Good luck.
chk out my signature for group sms app that I made
I believe nowadays, some people have more than 2 mobile numbers, may be more. Like myself, one for personal, and the other for work.
So just say you want to add me as your contact, how can you add both my mobile number into contacts? Where it only allow 1, what a flaw by the way.
You guys must have friends with more than 1 mobile numbers, and how you manage? I mean, is there a way to hack a new field into the contacts?
My Sprint PPC-6800 has several extra categories, so I just pick one of those. Car tel:, Radio tel:, or Home2 tel: look like good prospects.
And then how does someone send a sms to your 'Car tel'? What you have offered is not an adequate solution.
They're just labels. I can send an SMS to a home landline if I want. It won't be received obviously, but if I put a mobile number in the Home tel: field, it would work. Same thing with the rest of the available labels. You just have to remember that Car tel, in your example, is the guy's second mobile phone.
Hmmmm, on my Tytn II if I try to send an sms to a contact it will only list numbers in the 'mobile number' fields for that contact.

It sounds like that's the difference. On my Sprint Mogul running WM 6.1, when I want to send a new text message, I click on the "To:" field, and the contact manager pops up. I type in the contact name, and can select any phone number or email address for any contact.
Inesoft Address Book has this function,to add as many fields as you want to a contact...

I am new to Android and looking for a program that will intercept certain text messages and allow me to mute it and mark it as read. On my Touch Pro 2 I used a great program called Magicall. Is there anything similar for Android?
Thanks!

ChompSMS has the blacklist feature. It works well for hiding suggestive messages from my friends about my girlfriend from.. well, her.
It hides messages from the regular inbox and from notifications, but you can go in to the settings and specifically state that you want the program to show blacklisted messages. They'll still be in your inbox with this selected, just not come up on notifications. If the option is off, they don't appear in your inbox or notify until you reselect the option.
SPC or super private conversation sounds like what you maybe looking for. Check it out on the market.

Try aFirewall too. It is nice for incoming calls too.
I think this should work for you.
Hi,
I need a little help please.
I'm using a default WM sms app. When I want sent a sms message for example to John Silver, I must tap on "To:" button on address line, and choose him form contacts.
In the past, I had another ROM, I used also default WM sms app. When I want send a sms to John Silver, I could start typing his name, or any part of it, and WM sms app offer me contacts, which was relevant.
Please, does anyone know, how can I turn on this function in WM sms app? Or why it simply doesn't work.
Thank you.
Is there some app for android devices where I can see when time person which got my standard sms opened that sms ?
Just like on facebook chat there is exact time when other person sow my messages in chat
Depending on carrier and ROM, you can specify in the SMS settings the delivery of a receipt after the SMS has been opened.

I supposed that it is impossible :silly:
I only know that is some sms apps you can see that the sms is arrived on the others phone, but i don' t think it is possible to see if he/she readed the message
The SMS protocol has no way to report when messages have been read, but it does have ways to report when it's sent and received. Unfortunately, the standard makes these optional, not required.
The Android framework supports receipts when SMS messages are sent and received. The SmsMananager lets a program specify independent callbacks for sentIntent "when the message is successfully sent, or failed" and deliveryIntent "when the message is delivered to the recipient". See: developer.android.com/reference/android/telephony/SmsManager.html
But you can't rely on that working in an Android app. The problem is that
The actual SMS transfer code is written by the device manufacturer
SMS message transfer is controlled by the carrier
So, for a delivery receipt to work, it has to be implemented, and implemented consistently, by
The manufacturer of your phone
Your carrier
Your friend's carrier
The manufacturer of your friend's phone
The bottom line is that you're not even guaranteed that a given SMS is going to be delivered, let alone when. If you want receipts you need to use a different app, such as facebook chat.
