XDA I Vs XDA II signal. - General Topics

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the signal on the XDA II is any better than the XDA I?
I know that there are loads of variables surrounding this depending on where you are and what Radio version you have. What I am asking really is if a consensus can be reached by those that had the XDA I and now have an XDA II about the amount of signal.
Thanks Andrew.

I have both MDA I and MDA II, and every day I go for lunch to the pub, where the signal is very poor. With MDA I have most time no signal and if I have some I can't call. But with MDA II, I can call successfully, sometimes the sound quality is poor but I can talk. So for me MDA II has much better signal than MDA I.
PS: MDA is the same as XDA

mda vario / o2 atom
anyone got one of the above handhelds?.
ive got the mda compact at the mo, very happy with it after upgrading to bigstorage and 1.13ROM/1.13RADIO
But I could do with wifi, and of course WM2005 would be nice as well.
Is the slide out keyboard any good?
im going to a shop over the next few days, but was wondering if anyone had one they could comment on, whats the keybaord like etc.
as for operator
O2 --- im on now, signal great, cant fault, its CUSTOMER BLOODY SERVICES.
they have no clue
a) i cant add bolt-ons to my account as they arent sure whether they will go on
b) cant check balance without being in front of a pc or making a premium rate call
c) recently had my number ported across to an orange account, MORE HASSLE
i want an operator where i can check balance at all times, have good signal, check texts left and good gprs pricings.
looking at possible ORANGE?
who do you use, and DONT tell me to stop with O2.....
I'm with Orange and on the whole I'm fairly happy.
Tha balance can be checked on-line or by phone and it's not premium rate. (Might even be free)
Bolt-ons are called bundles.
Data is currently costing me £1 per MB
Porting numbers is ALWAYS a hassle. Networks don't make it easy to get the PAC code.
T-mobile. get the web and walk tarifs and you cant go wrong. join on the web n walk tarifs.

I've got a MDA PRO on web n talk 100 for 122 gbp and 12 months on 15gbp, 30gbp for 6 months, from scancom.co.uk gives 100mins crossnet and 40Mb net traffic.
very happy withe T mobile so far, had some teething problems with MDA PRO, but nothing that other people haven't come across.
good luck

[Q] tablet with cellular capabilities?

i was just wondering if there were any tablets around yet that i could throw my sim card in and with a paired headset could make and recieve calls.
Samsung Galaxy Tab, Dell Streak 5 and, with a bit of work I believe, Dell Streak 7 are the ones I know of
How much work is a little bit? I was at a T-Mobile store the other day and the Rep told me there was no cellular capabilities? I'm sure these devices have antennas or else they wouldent pick up internet signals, I was thinking maybe a custom rom?

I thought the galaxy tab only had phone capabilities in Europe... I may be wrong though.
I never knew that our devices capabilities vary from country to country, I'm from the states so ill look into the euro tablets.

[Q] Cell reception question

Can anyone tell me if the reception is any better on any of the custom roms out there. I am about to return my second phone so I dont want to go flashing a bunch of new roms just to take them off in a day or two. Im asking because if the reception is not any better I may have to get a different phone because I have no reception at all in my home area. Any advise??

bad phones
my first g2x had poor connection so bad i thought it was tmobile as i was coming from verizon. so i returned the phone. i dont have landbased internbet where i am living but the coverage map showed great 4g infact i can see the tower like 200 feet from my place. so i decided to try out the tmobile 4g hotspot figuring it wouldnt work well it did. so i went and got another g2x and this one has great signal and connection. so there are phones out there that have bad connection, so if you are getting this and you know another tmobile phone or device is working return it.
Awww this is a disappointing thread to find. I was hoping it would be a software problem thats easily fixable.
I get constant time outs on mine when browsing no matter where I am. Sometimes it will time out on a speed test 5 times in a row, them get 5Mb down and then time out 4 more times and then get 5Mb again. Its killing me. Worst thing is I bought it 2nd hand so I'm sure T-mobile will make me mail it to Samsung
edit: My reception is about -101 dBa on avg.
Was having the same problems. I call customer service and they informed me that my sim card was old and to go to the T-Mobile store and get a new one. I did and now works a lot better. They told me that there towers don't recognize older sim cards as 4g so they get spotty 4g coverage.

My SIM card is less than a year old, but this is definitely worth a shot.
Thx!

Sensation + Tmobile-US = FAIL !

I tired to love the sensation ..
Really do ..
Moved from ATT to tmobile two weeks ago and got me the sensation .
I am so disappointing on the reception level i get from this phone .
Wifi calling is worthless as no one can hear you .
Getting 4G is like winning the lottery , where most of the time i get Edge .
But the worst part is i get Edge at my Toilet in my house !!!
And wifi doesn't get any network , while my iphone 4 worked with wifi at the same location perffectly .
How can i guy take a dump with EDGE ? So slow .. so my wife get upset im stuck in the restroom so long ,,, i keep saying its because of the reception ..
Oh well off we go to ATT store this Sunday to get the Galaxy S II
Did you not think to check Tmobile's reception at your house/in your city before switching? Sadly there are cities that Tmobile hasn't fully developed yet.
No
yea i did checked their map .
And i "should" have reception but its very poor .
Even in Seattle where it`s Tmobile HQ reception sucks .
So disappointing to receive an EDGE reception on 2011 ...
And to see them going with ohh we have the new galaxy for HSPDA+ when even their 3g doesn't work is a joke
have you tried calling them & telling them that their reception sucks at your house?
I switched from Verizon about a month ago(to try and save some money), and also couldn't be more disappointed. I looked at the map online before I switched and it looked like I'd have decent coverage. I have one bar of 2g at home. This sucks. Wifi calling , like op said, sucks because no one can hear me at all. Honestly, I love the phone, but this whole experience has taught me that a phone is only as good as it's mobile connection. I'm lucky to have 2g unless I'm out near Boston. Coming from a thunderbolt with Verizon's solid network...I'm just so upset. Well, you live, you learn right?? Sorry about the rant folks...just wanted to share my story.....

I dunno, I get great coverage. I'm in NYC so that probably helps a lot.
Return both of your phones.

try switching roms, switch kernels, change radio, do some tweaking whatever.. these kind of threads are getting annoying as ****..everyone's phone runs and functions differently than others...nothing is perfect on this world dude..thats what xda is here for..

Great service here in Jackson MS area, no problems with WiFi calling either. I always have between 3-4 bars for signal strength and call quality is superb.
Data speed is double that of our old carrier, much better than our old carrier "Cellular South".
My wife has a cleaning business, she travels all over our local area, and she had problems with call reception all the time with our old carrier, now she only has one customer where her signal is a little weak, but still usable.
This is my 3rd sensation after returning 2 within 1 week
They all have the same problem
My 3rd as well
If I'm at my house and I touch the bottom back of my phone, my t-mobile service cuts off immediately
Deathgrip
If I let go, service is back on
And that only happens at my house
But I have no issues while hooked to wifi
Go to your phone
Press *#*#4636#*#*
Go to phone information
Scroll to the bottom
Toggle ciphering off
Turn radio off
Turn radio on
Toggle ciphering on
Scroll up a little and change your settings from WCDMA preferred to WCDMA only
I do this and its stuck on 4g all the time
I'm getting between 2-5mbps at my house but 3-9mbps anywhere else
I have to do it after every rom I flash and want to keep
I live in NYC and the reception is spotty at best. I get from 10mbps to 1mbps depending where I am in the city

OMG. THANK YOU. no matter what i did, i could never get H or 4g in my house. now im on 4g thakns!
Edit: when I connect to data it says h or 4g, but the signal bars are so low now?
Great coverage in Sarasota,FL. Previously with AT&T on a galaxy that had horrible coverage.

I have been to:
Hawaii(Waikiki) 5Mbps
San Diego 2Mbps
NYC(Bronx/Grand Concourse) 1.5Mbps
Savannah 3Mbps
Charleston 3Mbps
Jacksonville 5Mbps
Fairfax 1.7Mbps
Virginia Beach 1.1Mbps
San Juan 2Mbps
Miami 5Mbps
and have descent coverage. Never had a problem with WIFI Calling, even while flying SouthWest...
Also, its being my experience that if AT&T has good coverage, TMobile has good coverage...So I find it a bit odd that AT&T works well but TMobile doesn't.

[Q] crappy cell service

I spend a lot of time in a convention center, aka concrete box, for work. This phone gets really bad reception when I am at work. I can connect to wi-fi so data is not a problem. But i miss so many calls it is ridiculous. And to add to the pain I do not get good reception at my house. I have talked to Sprint and they look at the coverage map, then tell me my home and work have great cell coverage. Might as well talk to a wall. At my house I have an Airave, still drop calls left and right. I am rooted, debloated, but not running any custom rom. Is there something I am missing? Like the phone, actually love having a physical keyboard, but am going nuts with the poor cell reception. Do other phones, Galaxy S4, have any better cell reception? Or do all Sprint phones have similar antennaes in them? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
I think the phone's antenna is a really bad one. I live in germany and I've got a sim-modded one from cornholio. when other phones get weak reception my phone gets "no service" (same provider). inside buildings it can get really annoying. I'm so glad I live in a major city xD

I've noticed this phone always wants to connect @ 3G. Try switching to 2G. It doesn't matter for calls so why not use it as a workaround? When I need fast internet I just toggle back to 3G.
I've got an automatic 2g/3g toggling app installed. so I talk about bad 2g reception xD
thanks for the recommendation anyway

I have that same issue, and when im on 2G and lost signal phone never catch signal back, best and only option is keep turn on 3G but area where we use phone must be with good coverage.
But ... i have second photon moded in PL in diffrent way and this phone dont have this issue with signal 2G and also have better 3G signal.. but realization not looks so good its uglier (and slot for sim is not push-to-push )
Welcome to Sprint. I've gone through 4 different phones they all can't be Bad.

its sprint service, I live In michigan near detroit and out here sprint blowz I modded my photon with The aid of Cornholios Mod, and currently using it on straight talk with an AT&T sim service is nearly as good as Verizons, save for the CM10.2.1 3G handshaking Problem and the Buggy CM everyday issues, but the Cell service couldnt be better under AT&T, Id say stick to a reseller of their service and u will see a vast service improvement
Why start a new thread?
I had one of these back in October when I moved to Colorado. I don't quite recall, but I'm pretty sure my service was okay. I am now on my second Q since the first one started having pixelated display issues, and nothing I could do would fix it...I eventually took the thing apart trying to get to the connections, and while successful, I still ended up with crappy display so I am thinking there was an issue with something on the board.
Now i have a 'new' one and for the life of me I get 3g service maybe once or twice a day. I was thinking about bootloader unlock and flashing to a different ROM. I'd also like to find a way to see 'real-time' what the different radios are doing/not doing.
So what do you all think? New ROM?
I have had this issue with a few of my phones over the years. Especially the HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium).
In the Sim Modding Process it is possible that a few of the connectors on the mother board to get slightly bent and loose contact with the (black brass stick on ribbons that are stuck to the outside of the phone body. If you take the phone back panel off you will see these ribbons, they are stuck on the case around the battery.
I have some photo's of where the aerials are on the Photon but need to get to 10 posts before I can post them.
There is four different sets of aerials (Data Main, Voice Main, Bluetooth Wifi and GPS) pull your phone apart and make sure the contact on the mother board are in full contact with the ribbons. Do this by bending them up, when you put the phone back together they should be pushing hard on the contacts again.
