hi...
i already have the Magellan gps 315 and wanted to know if its possible to connect to the XDA II. what cables would i need etc.... it is NMEA 2.1 compliant...
thanks for any help or suggestions

I assume the Magellan communicate with a serial port?
The simple way is to get hold of a serial sync cable and a "crossover gender bender" (that is what I have for my Garmin GPS 35 at least).
This won't get your XDA II charged though... but I think there is a serial sync and power cable available.
Best regards,

hi
thanks,
there is a cable, one with bare wires for wiring yourself or a serial i think...
how do i connect it to the XDA II though...
cheers

What do you mean? The serial sync cable attaches to your XDA sync port in one end, and has a female serial connector in the other end.
Then you get a serial cable for your GPS, which will probably leave you with a female serial in the "open" end too.
This is where the "crossover gender bender" comes into action, as you'll need a male-male adapter that have some of the pins crossed (any decent computershop should be able to sell you a serial crossover cable or an adapter).

hi...
no there is a cable from magellan that attaches to the GPS and the other end there are bare wires for your own use...
could i connect to the xDA II with these wires...
thanks for all you help so far...

Yes max, you will need a plug that fits the xda though, might be an idea to also input power for the xda through the same plug.
thanks again..
where can i get a connector for the XDAII and what wires go where...
cheers

I am looking for a serial cable with power connector so I can use the serial port while charging the MDA II (as well as the MDA I).
Does anyone know where I can buy one (or actually many of them)?
I live in the Netherlands, but mailorder is fine as well.
im pretty sure my old XDA1 serial cable i got from the o2 shop had a power socket adapter on it too :\ it was £15 from the o2shop uptown...
Thanks. In the Netherlands they do have the serial cable but none with power. I cannot even by the connectors themselves (so without wiring).
I just bought two at this site: http://pc-mobile.net/xda.htm, hope they deliver...
Hi
I am trying to locate a car charger kit which will charge both my xda ii & my Fortuna Bluetooth Clip On GPS Receiver at the same time.
I searched everywhere and can't find one. Has anyone seen one for sale?
Thanks In Advance.
Jase
I have the same combination and i bought a splitter so i can put both plug in.
I'm using the splitter that came with the old iPAQ PCMCIA Expansion Pack! I don't know if they sell that seperately, but it's been working nicely.
Hi Cardfarther.
Where can i get a splitter from?
Cheers
Jase
try ebay under gps xda
I am thinking of buying this cable:
http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/accessories_detail.php?accessory_id=665
(which is apparently designed for the XDA I) to connect my XDAII and Haicom 204E GPS.
Anyone know if this wil work?
If it fits the gps it will work ok with xda1 and xda2.
Good day to all
As many others I read this forum very often and find most of the discussions very helpful. Now it's my turn to make my first post
I have XDA II and Garmin eTrex Vista GPS receiver. I would like to connect those and to use them in my car. For this purpose I'm looking for a serial Y-cable for XDA II (not I!) that is capable to charge the PDA from the cigarette power plug in the car.
Somewhere I saw Y-cable that was a combination between Serial and USB cable, but it was AFAIR for XDA I and I think that it was mentioned that it cannot charge XDA II.
So, where can I get such a cable? I live in Germany.
