I am experiencing some strange intermittent behaviour on my XDA. After an indeterminate amount of time using the xda with an open GPRS connection, the backlight starts flashing rapidly on and off and the device stops responding to user input. A soft reset of the device seems to put things straight again. Does anyone know what could cause such a thing to happen, or should I be treating it as a hardware fault ?
Cheers,
Andy
Happened to me last week as well (after 6 months of use without problems). Went away with a soft reset and hasn't happened since, so I'm not really bothered.
This happened to me when I first started testing GPRS suspend. It was like it for about a week. It doesn't happen anymore. No idea why. I've certainly done a few soft resets since then.
It isn't related to the ROM, since I had the issue with an AT&T ROM as well as the XDA dev 1.1.
I only experienced this since installing a new Radio firmware with GPRS suspend.
Anyway, seems to be fine now for some reason. Wierd.
cheers,
..lance

I'm having some touch screen issues and I don't know if its a software problem or hardware problem for my ATT TILT.
I am currently using Dutty's WM6.1 ROM and ever since flashing to this I have a problem with the touchscreen from time to time. Sometimes it very very unresponsive and at some points it will stop working completely. Usually I tap the Power button to put the phone into 'sleep mode' and then hit it again to wake it up and it will fix the problem sometimes.
As of late that hasn't helped. I've had to do several soft resets for the touchscreen to start working again. I also tried to do a screen alignment but that program only starts up but will not work so I end up having to soft reset again.
The reason I ask is because I just had my Tilt replaced through ATT about 2 weeks ago because of somewhat similar problems. The phone is starting to show the same symptoms as before, but not as severe and not as many as last time. And with the phone ATT sent me it only has a 90 day warranty.
Is this something that has an easy software update fix or is it my phone?

Why don't you flash back an original ROM and SPL. After a clean flash if the problem still persists as bad as you say then it sounds like a hardware issue and I would get AT&T to replace it again.
If you don't have the issues with the original ROM/SPL, then flash your cooked ROM again, make sure you use the appropriate SPL and see if you still have issues. If you still are ok, then install your Apps and see if any of those are causing it. If you are not, then it sounds like the ROM, so it would be best to post in that ROM's thread.
It's troubleshooting 101....

Please specify which of Duttys WM6.1 ROM you are using. If this is ROM specific please post this in a relevant thread. If this symptom is consistent with various ROMs I would follow the advice of DaveShaw and Bengalih and upgrade your SPL to either 3.28 or 3.29.
this problem has been bugging the heck out of me. I only noticed it once I flashed custom ROMs. I may go back to the ATT rom or chadsters stripped ATT rom if need be.
it happened on all versions of EnergyROM I have used over the last few months and on hergs new wm6.5 rom as well.
my talk and end buttons just seem to stop working sometimes and act as the home and back buttons respectively when they fail. Sometimes even the back and home buttons stop responding and the whole area aside from the dpad is useless. This only happens after a while and a soft reset temporarily fixes the issue...until something triggers them to stop working again.
this is causing me extreme frustration with my Fuze that I otherwise love...
is anyone else having this issue? is there a fix? if not, I will try just moving back to a stock ROM and see if it happens.
Yes, I have the exact same problem on the same roms.
Turning the screen off and on again seems to fix it for me.
I am using the stock ROM and have this issue.
Moved to the Raphael subforum
same problem
i have same problem..yesterday i flash new EnergyRom Genesis and 1.14.25.05 radio..and all my buttons except hw keyboard stop working (volume up,down, back, home, answer call, end call button stop working)..so i falshed back older EnergyRom and its still not working (older EnergRom was ok, everything worked fine for me), some people have same problem and solve it by flashing back stock rom, but i tried so many original stock rom and cooked rom with combination with many radio and soft resets and hardresets..and its still not working...i dont have warranty now-so i dont know what to do...but iam sure-that it is software problem..but dont know what to do..please help me..
I had the same problem, twice. I don't know if it is EnergyROM that causes this or that its just because so many people flash EnergyROM that they notice it and think it is what causes it.
My first time also started shortly after flashing my first EnergyROM, when my FUZE was about 5 months old. No matter what I tried flashing, hard resetting, anything I couldn't fix it. So I reverted it to stock and had AT&T replace it. The second time this happened was also about 4 months after I got my replacement. I was also running EnergyROM, but I had been running the same ROM and hadn't flashed for over 2 months when it started again. Once again, I had to get it replaced under warranty.
I assume this problem isn't very widespread and don't know if it is a hardware fault or if flashing ROMs someway changes something that isn't always changed when flashing ROMs. This may even be an AT&T specific issue. I would recommend just calling and having it replaced, everyone who bought it new still has warranty, and hopefully if you bought it refurbished it isn't over 3 months old.
Since I have had this issue twice and they sent me DOA replacements 2 times, they offered to give me another phone last time I asked for a replacement. They offered the Epix and the Incite, which I declined and took another FUZE instead. I told them to note it on my account. I am going to try getting my FUZE replaced with a Touch Pro 2 once that is at least 1 month old.
thanks very much for your reply...iam from czech republic..every from my last five WM phones i bought in czech republic was new from T-Mobile..but i lost my first touch pro (it cost me 600euro)..so i decided to buy second touch pro in england, when i was there on holiday (prize only 200euro- but second hand)..now iam back in czech republic, buttons on my touch pro dont work and i dont have warranty i loved energy rom..but i think, that it is reason, why my touch pro dont work
I have the same problem with my Fuze (using NATF 4.5 ROM). I don't think it's a software issue. I think it's a malfunction of the capacitive touch sensor (NAV sensor) that controls the entire bottom panel of the phone (HOME/BACK/TALK/END and Smart Touch wheel). Search for a tool called navdbgtool.exe. It lets you see what inputs are registered by the panel (e.g. where it detects a touch or which buttons are pressed). Mine sometimes works fine but randomly malfunctions (zoom functionality is broken, buttons do not perform the proper commands).
Same here!
I only have flashed Shep's and Timolol's ROM.
what is wrong?
i'v seen somewhere on forum for blackstone, that hard spl can cause weird problems like that, maybe touch pro needs 'bios' update?
it's just a thought, as i've got same problem... really annoying ####!
I have the same problem!!!! I thinked that was a hardware problem but now that I have read all your post I think is a software problem, because I'm using ENERGYROM with sense 2.5 and zoom function is broken and I have the same problems with all keys......I don't now waht to do.....Any ROM fix this problem??? I open a new post, please check:

Glad to know that others are having similar problems. Just flashed to the latest version of the EnergyROM and having trouble with the Talk key.
A soft-reset seems to fix it for awhile, then it randomly stops working. Haven't had time yet to either hard-reset or flash back to the previous version. Will try that when I get time.
I do suspect it is a software issue. The key press is registered, something is making it do something else. So the solution for me is using Tarkim's Keyboard Config, having it map that key to Talk. Works like a charm!
Okay, finally had a chance to do a hard-reset. The buttons now work like a charm and overall, things work much faster. Not sure what the deal was, originally went through the proper steps to flash, including a hard-reset afterward...
I'm glad that you solved your problem....but please where I can get the Tarkim's Keyboard Config?? I did a hard reset and nothing happened!!! Thanks for your help.
Sorry, didn't have the link handy at the time. Here's the thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521786
to resolve my issue on this thread...
I took my phone in for warranty replacement due to this issue. I got a new phone, flashed the ROM I was having issue with at the time and have not had a problem since on any ROMs
I have the latest "stock" rom installed and I am having the same problem. Hard reset or soft rest doesn't permanently fix my problem. Also my navigation "wheel" in the middle will sometimes go bizerk while typing texts, in the form of zooming all the way out and zooming all the way in...very fast. Never understood that button. I don't use the bloatware. Seems like a hardware problem to me?
Another feature that has stopped working as of lately was is the selecting of multiple email msgs with one finger swipe... I have to use the shift button to select multiple msgs.
Seems that HTC has stopped supporting the fuze, as there is no support on their website?
Hi All,
I got a strange problem regarding the GPS function of the phone.. when I start a program requirering GPS (TomTom, HTC GPSTool, Chartcross GPSTest) the phone freezes after 5-10seconds and I have to pull the battery out.
I did not had this problem 2/3 weeks ago and nothing has changed since than, just normal usage (dropped it once..)
First I thought it was a TomTom problem or just a problem in the Rom..
I use the EnergyRom currently, but after trying 2 different Roms the problem still existed..
Do you think that there is any program/system thing that could cause this or is my GPS antenna broke or something like that.. and if it's so, can it be fixed or am I in deep trouble..
I am having the same issue, I have had my raph for over 12 months now and its been working fine, using eneryrom, and it was working fine with this ROM until the other day...
No need to pull the battery out, I can reset it by the hard ware reset button.
But still sucks I cant use tom tom
Anyone else got any ideas?
Yeah I found that resetting thing out too I received an idea via a P.M. to reflash the radio, this did not help me.. maybe it will help you out!
I can't even use GPS test it freezes up everytime.. so frustrating if you've tried a lot of things but still the problem remains!
I am having the same problem too....i didnt start until 4 days ago...i have changed the radio and rom still same problem....it freezes up on all those including googlemaps
Ive had the same problem as you guys. Once the device gets a lock on gps it will freeze. Ive been using energy roms since the start and just recently its been doing this.
I solved it by switching to a different radio. but for some reason i cannot go back to the radio i was using because it has this problem. hope that helps til an answer can be figured out as to why its doing this.
btw i was using radio 1.02.25.28
My phone is an AT&T LG Incite with a hacked ROM (Winmo 6.1) that has been working fine for a year.
I just woke up, my phone just said that the 3G was being used (which confused me), it never said that I received anything. "Messages" wasn't working at all. My "Contacts" were popping up as blank. And everything ran like garbage. I also was having problems hearing phone calls and people couldn't hear me. I eventually just reformatted. Got everything back to normal and it was all fine.
Then my friend texts me asking if I ever got a pic he sent me through MMS. I never got it so I just got him to send it again. So my phone eventually makes the "MMS recieved" sound and starts downloading it. Well, it never finishes and all the same symptoms are happening again. I eventually find out that he sent me it the first time when my phone messed up, so this is def. what is causing the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
NOTE: also if I go into processes "MMSLOADER" or w/e says 97% cpu usage.
try to insert another sim card?
i think your phone lags, because it tries to download the mms?
I used to have a LG Incite, in fact I just sold it a few days ago . But your problem is your ROM. With the Incite you need to reflash every so often. You said you've had the ROM for over a year right? Well you should try and reflash it every few months to keep it fresh and running smoothly. I suggest moving on to WM 6.5, it's much more stable and fast. I used to use Bigmans 28011 no frills version. Best ROM out their, it's on WWW.LG-Incite.com, even still but I got banned from that forum forum because I made two accounts on accident when I first started because of a bad internet connection. What a rediculous excuse, I never did anything wrong.
I figured out a way to fix it. If you just turn off the data completely then restart it. It stops the download.
Hey guys,
I tried looking for this issue but I can't seem to find it, I doubt I'm not the only one (I hope I'm not the only one...)
I've been flashing roms for a while now, fiddling with different settings/kernels/etc. and then all of a sudden I'm having issues with my Softkeys. I'll be using the phone and then they just go blank. What also happens is that the Search key gets held down (by a ghost, it seems) and it opens up the voice search option. I've also seen my Back button flicker as if it's being pressed repeatedly.
Right now I'm on CodeName Android 1.4 but I've tried 1.6, CM9 and it seems to be the same issue. I'm assuming that since this is consistant accross all ROMs that it's a hardware issue (I could be wrong) but I'm wondering if this has happened before and if there's a way to fix it.
Thanks gents
Hi friend,
The same happened to me once. It was very weird. I panicked, and locked the phone. Then when I unlocked it everything was as before. It must be some kind of a glitch, coming from CM9 built roms (almost all roms that are around). Try doing a totally clean install with a popular rom and see how it goes.
Now I remember that the same happened once again, when I got a drop of water on my screen, as the touchscreen seems to detect water as a form of touching and then all sort of weird things happened. Hope its a rom issue, not a Touchscreen failure.
Thanks man,
I'm really hoping it's not a hardware issue either as I'm not sure what the process is in terms of sending my phone in for repairs.
I'll try a clean wipe and install tonight and see how it goes.
Thanks again
Update: Alright so I ended up calling Samsung because I had come to the conclusion that it was a hardware issue because every ROM I flashed I had the same damn issue.
I got the ok to send in my phone and all that, I went to return my phone to Stock and when I installed the OEM operating system everything was okay... I seriously doubt that every ROM I downloaded was bugged.
I'm thinking it's just a general glitch or is it possible that 1 ROM I downloaded was bugged and everyone after that inherited the same problem? I don't know...
