Hard reset =/= restoring all the system files?

I am using Touch HD (BlackStone), I installed one of the hot fix from HTC and it seems causing my phone lock up with the ICR program. I did hard reset and reinstall the ICR and it still crashing all the time. I spended 2 days playing around with countless hard reset and the problem was still there. Finally I flashed my ROM and the problem seem gone now. Seems like the hot fix replaced some of the system files and the hard reset didn't restored them.
I just wondering what exactly hard reset does? Does it just delete the extra files and settings installed by users without restoring all the system files?
a hard reset restore all files of your phone (delete all contacts, messages, settings, programs....) to original parameters.
It's like a "fomat c:" for a computer !
So when I flash the ROM image into the phone, it will put it in a protected area in the flash ROM and hard reset will copy all the files from there to another portion of the flash ROM and execute from there?
when you flash a rom, it erase (or replace, it's the same) the 'older' rom !
a hard reset just delete all files ! if you hard reset your phone, it will be like you buy it, when you power on your phone at the first time !
there is no multi-partitions, one and only one OS can be flash, install and run at the same time !
I hope it's clear, and I answer your question, because my english is very bad....
Hey, if you try format c: ,you get rid of ALL datas on your disk, including OS !! So, it´s not like hard-reset Hard-reseting deletes all user-made data, but it doesn´t do anything with ROM/firmware files, so if you changed them, you can get them back only by reinstalling OS ;-)

Ah that explain why hard reset didn't fix my problems but re-flash the same ROM into phone did.
So there is a list of files in ROM to tell the hard reset program which are needed to keep?
thanks
sorry, it's to hard for me to explain what I think in english

Complete registry reset in WM 6.1

Hi,
I'm writing to clear myself a doubt abut the Windows Mobile 6.1 registry.
Since I've messed around too much with the Windows registry, I'd like to reset my device to be sure that any registry tweak I made (added, modified and deleted keys) is wiped out, restored or added back to factory defaults.
How can I achieve this?
Should I reset Profile Info from within Windows, make a Soft Reset or am I forced to do a Hard Reset?
Thank you for your help!
You should make a HARD-RESET.
* hard-reset will delete all your data, if it's necessary do a backup before making a hard reset.

Pattern unlock doesn't work after nandroid (data) restore

several times after changing roms or trying out rooting with system-less SU, i restored data with TWRP.
Every time when i restore boot, pattern-lock isn't recognizing my pattern - fingerprintreader works.
I believe pattern is not saved within data so it will not saved by nandroid-backup.
has anyone an solution for this problem?
same here, with the pin code also. just had to revert back to a nandroid I made specifically without the pin yet. haven't figured out how to fix it yet.
Sent from my HTC One A9 using Tapatalk
i've made some tests: recovery restore of another boot-img and cache.img don't change nothing (pin / pattern were recognized as correct).
please where can that be otherwise stored or how is the password / pin / pattern encrypted?

No, that's not the point because after installing SU, encrypting of the data partition is indeed prevented (backup/restore is made WITH patched boot).

Encrypting and fully wiping data from Mate 9

Hi,
I'm returning my Mate 9 and looking to wipe the data from it. I've read in the past that to fully wipe an android phone I should encrypt my phone then factory reset it. However, I can't find the encrypt option on the Mate 9. So I have two questions...
1. Does anyone know if I'm able to encrypt on the Mate 9?
2. If not, is there another way to encrypt/fully wipe data from the Mate 9? Someone suggested "Secure Erase with iShredder 4", will this be sufficient ensure my data is fully wiped from my phone?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response, do you know if that will permanently delete all files? I've read in some articles that doing this alone will not delete all files, the below is from Digital Trends (I don't have enough posts to post outside links)...
"When you do a factory reset on your Android smartphone, it’s supposed to wipe it clean, but it doesn’t. It deletes the addresses of all of your data, so it no longer knows where it’s stored, but it doesn’t actually overwrite the data. That being the case, it’s possible for someone to employ off-the-shelf recovery software and get some of that data back. Let’s look at how to wipe your Android smartphone properly."
I'm not a techie so if the above is no longer correct than it would be good to know.

Hmm idk I've never done anything but factory reset. All my prior phones were encrypted by default since android 6.0 came out. What's the date on the digital trends article?
