Question Massive battery drain after Smartphone change?! - Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Hi there!
Got my new Pixel 7 Pro and changed my smartphone that works together with the watch.
The Smartwatch was resetted and then there was a backup reinstalled on the watch before I paired it with the new phone.
But since then, my watch is drained 3-4 times faster then before. Charged it today at 12am and now it only has 20%. Normally the battery lasted for at least 48 hours with my usage. Now I have to charge it after not even 24 hours.
What could have gone wrong? Do I have to reset the watch completely?
Thannks for answers in advance!

Try a network reset on the Pixel if you haven't.
Check all settings especially in the app. Clear caches.

Turn off google assistant, or remove it and see if that works, as soon as I enabled it on my watch it drained my phone and the watch super quick

I think your issue is a coincidence, the latest watch firmware for me keeps the screen on without the appropriate movement, even turning this off the screen is still waking up, and when it should sleep, screen goes black for a split second then comes back on. Now I can't even go a day on a charge, and doing almost nothing

Hi! Thanks for your answers.
After a restart of watch and phone and reset of the Watch everything works fine now.
Battery is even better then with my Pixel 6 Pro as far as I can judge this.

Glad you got it sorted. I have tried 4 resets of the watch and still have the same issue, how did you do the reset? just the standard reset option?
Edit
I have now performed a hard reset no restore except health and so far so good with the screen.

I did a complete reset and didn't restore any things from my backup as they weren't that important to me and I think they are stored in the Samsung Health app anyway.
As this worked for you too, I think you shouldn't restore the watch after reset to make it work the best way.

Yeah maybe it was the restore more than the hard reset, good to know for future because I had waisted many days on this and resets.
I can confirm I am getting normal battery life instead of about 8-9 hours.

G930W8 Battery problem

Hello all, so as the titles states, i have a G930W8, bought it like 5 day ago, and it has a battery bug I think, ever since the XAC update, my phone shows up 10 hours or remaining battery, even at 100% and it drains a lot, I made a factory reset but it didn't work, before the update it showed 20+ hours, and it didn't drain that fast, now 3 hours and it's like 55%, so i wanted to know if really there is a bug or it's just me thaank you all
Do a factory reset, and the battery bug is a myth, its probably some app that is draining the battery. Download cpu spy and see if the phone is going into deep sleep, probably it isn't.
@peachpuff okay i'll do that asap, I've already done a factory reset yesterday, but is it normal 10 hours at 100% ? Where as other poeple (and even I before the update and all) get more and faar more?
No its not normal, my phone lasts 2 days before i charge it, some app must be keeping your phone up.
@peachpuff so here are the states of last 2 hours, and i charged before installing the app, and also before this bug i was in a trip, my phone wasn't charged t was like 30% or 40% and i used it all along the trip and it turned off then i charged it without turning it on, when it was 100% i turned it on and tjen i saw the 10 hours, so that's all that happened after the update. And thanks for your help
Pls update the settings to put all ur apps in power save mode.

Well, okay i've done that, will see how it will perform... hope it's not a hardware related problem

Its a known bug after the last update I think. Just restart your phone after every time you charge it.

Facebook messenger? Uninstall everything and start from scratch, don't install any apps for a day or two and see how it goes, there's no way the update is draining your battery, its an app that's trying to sync, or possibly one of your accounts can't sync.

If u still have this problem which again is usually 99% an app then yes use often and either flash the U bllatfree firmware or try your firmware again.
But I do agree it's probably something syncing that either can't, or is taking forever to do or, an app misbehaving. Let us know.

Is Tizen 3 Killing Your Battery?

What's up XDA Forum, TTown here.
I, like many, recently updated my Frontier to Tizen 3. While I've frequently visited this page throughout my ownership of the Gear S3 (along with almost everyone smartphone I have purchased), recently my visits haven't been as frequent until now. My Gear S3 had been doing great. My battery life was 2-3 days, and I had my watch setup just the way I wanted it.
Fast forward to a couple of days ago. Because I haven't been keeping up with the forums, I was pleasantly surprised to see a new update for my watch. Without checking the forum I downloaded and installed the new update. The first thing I notice is my battery took a big hit. No big deal right? I just put my watch on the charger thinking the update was the culprit. Once recharged I placed the watch back on my wrist and went about my day. One hour in, I check my battery life and notice my battery took a hit. I shrugged my shoulders giving the watch the benefit of the doubt. By mid day, I realized things aren't right. The new update is seriously killing my battery.
So I head on over to this forum for news and feedback on the new update. Sure enough, many of you are experiencing battery drain as well. So why create a new thread you ask? Well, I'd like to get some more detailed feedback from you all. Secondly, I'd like to bring more attention to this issue. Besides, how many of you rave about the battery life of the Gear S3? Answer the poll above/below (I can't remember where it's located since I haven't done a poll in awhile), and provide your feedback below.
Thanks!
I just got my Gear S3 yesterday, so I don't know anything about the other software. The battery life doesn't seem like it's going to be that good though. I lose about 10% an hour it seems, so I don't see how this an last me 2-4 days. I hope this gets fixed soon.
Uninstall all 3 apps: Samsung Gear, Samsung accessory service, Gear S plugin. Unpair from BT. Reset the watch. Then start from scratch as if you had just bought it, don't restore from backup. Worked for me.

Yes i have this problem too. It is too late to regret. We can't go back I just hope that Samsung hear this and fix as soon as possible. I just can't live with it. The battery draining is horrible
You may try to reset without restore if backup.
Without Bluetooth, wifi would consume all in a few hours. So do not use use wifi, sunce you have Bluetooth.
Unfortunelt tizen 3 has lags for me. 2.3 was nire smooth.
Also Bluetooth transfers are more slower in 3.0
It's the weather app
Hi
After the update my battery was also terrible. I did a reset and restore then I did a reset and started from scratch. No improvement.
I saw a comment on Android Police about the update. He suggested that it's the weather app. So I reset, started from scratch and didn't update the weather app. It's only been a day but so far back to normal.
So seems it's not a Tizen 3 issue but the weather app.

It could be posible, I dont use weather at all and I have very good battery Life, similar to tizen 2. I disabled wifi and real time heart monitoring
One thing I noticed I loose now and then the bluetooth connection to gear s3 after tizen 3.0.1 update. Perhaps this causes higher battery consumption. It connects back after a while but still it happens many times a day. I sent a bug report to Samsung about this with the UE logs. Let's see what they answer... Perhaps do a clean install :/ I hope not.

Before I reset and was running the updated weather app I was using about 5% an hour and that was on a chilled Sunday with minimal usage. Today it's averaging 3.75% but that includes an hour long walk with heart monitoring, location tracking, interval timer and music to headset. Since then it's using 1-2% per hour which is about the same as pre update.
Oh and I have wifi enabled and it's fine so I don't think that's the issue.
Worth a try if you're suffering battery life issues since update.
No!
I'm here 7.5hrs later and I'm down from 100% to 85% so about 2% per hour. Set for notifications and step/stair counter (almost to my 3 mile daily goal)... overnight i only lose 3% over an 8 hour period... I don't use it for sleep tracking anymore, nor use the weather app with its rogue updating.

2 full days on tizen3, when on 2.3 was 3/3.5 days.
Also watch lags. Was happy with 2.3, now it sucks
My watch is now 4 full days without charge and i still have 20% left, AoD is off, Bezel wake up off, Gesture off.
I feel like doing a downgrade to 2.3.2.4...is that possible? I cant take this battery drain plus that "...battery needs to cool down to charge..." bug
My battery drains because the heart rate reader is constantly running. Even if I set to disable or check every 10 minutes, it constantly reads my pulse. Heck, even if I take the watch off, the green lights are blinking. Not really sure what to do. I reset the watch and didn't do a restore, reinstalled all apps...
So yeah my watch can't go 12 hours on the new update. Took it off around 6:30 am was dead by 5 pm. This is pathetic Samsung! Before I was getting 4 or 5 days on my battery.
i got mine a couple days ago, so i did a fresh update, reset to factory, and then started from scratch. Downloaded all latest gear s apps, plugins etc.
Battery stats indicate that my watch face is using 76% of battery usage, with settings the next highest at 5%. AOD is on, so maybe it's just a battery hogging face i've been using? Been flicking between a few different ones as it's still all new and shiny.
5 hours of use and i'm down to 78%, so i wouldn't be comfortable not charging it overnight, as it wouldn't last through the next day. certainly not the 2-3 days battery life that was advertised.
Going to try some different faces, though, see if some do better for battery life.
I've done reboots, resets, uninstalled all apps on phone and then factory reset. Updating and not updating the weather app Nothing is fixing this. And it won't even record steps. I've got all the options turned off that I can (no wifi, no diagnostics, no auto heart rate etc). No reply from Samsung either but that is hardly surprising. Overheating when charging as well unless it is turned off.
It was fully charged after lunch today and only 3 hours later is down to 55%
I really like it when it works but this is ridiculous!
No problems here.
I did reset after the update, but now batterylife is the same as before. Maybe even somewhat better.
Maybe worth mentioning is that i use the S3 Classic.
Usage is after 2 hours = 2-3 %
More of a problem with the lag for me. Also auto brightness doesn't work well. Is there a way to downgrade?

Thanks, Governa. This worked for me as well, but I will say that I found out that the update on the weather app is a major issue. So after resetting the watches I did not update the weather app. Six hours after full charge, with GPS on and AOD/Heart rate monitor off, less than 2.5% an hour. Does seem to drain faster initially but levels off. Keep in mind the battery does say it is "learning your habits". I will try it for a few times from 100% to 0% and see if it changes. Hopefully it does or Samsung will be replacing it. Have both Gear S3 Classic and Frontier with Note 8.

Honor 8 battery drain

Hello,
I am new here and need help with my Honor 8. The battery drain allot. I have read other post on xda-developers.com with the same issue. I don't know if the drain start after the update7.0. I just know that I know that my has been update to 7.0. If is some info:
Android 7.0
EMUI 5.0.1
I have tried to turn off WIFI+ and Location with no lock .
I don't know if my phone is factory unlocked and I will try to restart my phone but would like to know if I do that will take away the unlocked part?
Please share you battery graph and also see which app is consuming high battery. It may be many apps open in the background. I was facing the same and disabled Facebook on screen lock as it was consuming good amount of battery.
Check if you have enabled backup and sync for Photos as it consumes a lot of juice as well.

Try installing this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sp
Let it measure ur usage for a day and then see which app has wavelocks and consumes battery in the background.
Also u can reset and restart ur phone, it will NOT unlock ur bootloader or void warranty.

For the first time, mine did some crap like that this morning.
Word thing is the other day it stayed in 100% for 2 hours straight.
I mean I was web browsing on 4G, playing videos on YouTube etc. Doing everything I can to try and drain the battery.
My guess is we both need to factory reset.
In my case I recently updated to B391 but didn't factory reset.
Each update I did prior, I always factory reset the phone and had consistent & decent battery life

I always do a factory reset. It's crap, we users shouldn't have to, but it seems the best ways to squeeze the best performance of the device.
I bought the Honor 8 when it launched. It's almost been a year and a half and I had big battery issues.
I tried battery calibration, factory reset, etc... Nothing worked.
So I bought a new battery on Ebay (15€) and had it replaced. The phone is now good as new. At the end of the day, there's almost 50% of battery remaining.
I thing the component quality isn't that good and doesn't last more than 18/20 months.

I bought my Honor 8 around Octobor 2016 and same issue. Now, for common use, FB, surf with Chrome, IM with Messenger & WhatsApp, I've to charge 2-3 times per day.
My device is still in warranty (I think) then, I contacted Huawei/Honor support... but I think like you, battery is a poor quality and need to be replaced.

Could you please PM me the ebay link to the battery you got? Thanks
Is it easy to replace the battery on your own? I am really furious with the battery issues. Today my phone had 60% battery and it shut down suddenly. When I turned it on again the battery life was 0% and I was away from home without any other way to communicate with the universe ? . I don't know if I should by a new battery or just throw it away and get something else. It was a great value for money device (best camera ever!) but this thing with the battery is unacceptable especially because it is not easy to open it. I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a pm with the ebay link as well. Thanks in advance ??

Had my battery replaced under warranty a months ore so before the expiratin and with shipping taken care of (Huawei France). The phone was back quite quickly (took around one week) and now feels absolutely great. I am not a heavy storage user so I can manage with 32G for some time.
Even if it's out of warranty I'd say it's really worth replacing.
Hi everyone
I have my honor 8 two years now.
It always had 2days battery with normal use (videos included) for 1and half years.
Now it's switching off with 80% battery left.
When I plug it and turn it on it says 40/50% battery left. If I unplug it, it swithches off again.
It makes me crazy as I cannot rely on it, but the phone is fantastic!! I had other phones on the past, and the battery last for more than 5years!!
- I've reboot the phone already, cleaned the cache, checked all apps, but the situation is still the same.
Any suggestion?
- I'm reading that Google play might be the probem. Can I get rid of it?
Thanks for your help!
Cheers
Plinny
I resolved my battery drain problem by connecting all my wifi to 2.4Ghz instead of 5Ghz.

Gear S3 reading wrong battery percentage

So I'm having the same fast battery drain that a lot of people are having where I can lose 30-40% in 1 to 2 hours and be completely dead in 6hrs. But here over the past couple of days my watch will shut down like the battery is dead but when I put it on the charger it will read anywhere between 28 and 32% so I will turn it back on and it will last about a minute and then shut down again and when I place it on the charger it still reads the same thing. Has anyone had this issue? Used to go all the way down to 3% and when I would put it on the charger it would read 3% but not now.

Is there a way to reset the battery status and percentage reading. Having the same issue.
Mine has been doing this for a few weeks now. It would power down as if the battery were depleted. When I put it on the charger, it would show 80%. I just bit the bullet and installed a new battery this morning (after trying everything else) and now it is working fine.

I didn't post any screens because after checking, my battery quick check is exactly like yours except L15 instead of L16
I too am having the same battery rapidly draining. I pulled it off the charger today at 1 after letting it fully drain last night. I had to place the watch twice because initially it was charging at a rate of 25/hr. It's 2:30 and I'm down to 76%.
The odd thing is, I got the watch for Christmas, purchased Monday of black Friday week. It was perfect until the first week of January. Then it slugged up. The the following day I started getting the battery drain issue, 10 - 15% an hr. After countless times of rebooting, factory restoring, letting the watch drain entirely and recharging, and messing with notifications and permissions, it started to act normally again. Then I got the Tizen 4 update and I decided to go through the update. I'm back to square one again...
I have no idea what really set it back to normal the first time. Figured I'd reach out again while I mess with it.
Also, I tried flashing the watch, but every time I went too, the software on my laptop would just crash when I hit start.
SM-R798T running Tizen 4. The upgrade to Tizen 4 wasn't done until after the new battery was installed. Now I can easily get 2 days life out of it. The battery was $24 and took about 25 minutes to install (I was being VERY careful since I had never done this before). The watch ran like a champ with good battery life (this was Saturday), Sunday afternoon, I got the notification to update to Tizen 4.
Watch shuts down quickly
I have had similar issues to all here. My watch is fully charged to 100% and removed from the dock and lasts probably an hour and a half, then shuts down without warning, no low battery signal or anything of the sort.
When it is placed back on the dock it reads anywhere between 80 - 90%.
This must be a software problem. I just upgraded to one UI and the issue has recurred.
Has anyone solved this??

This must be a software problem. I just upgraded to one UI and the issue has recurred.
Has anyone solved this??

same exact thing happening to my watch since updated One UI, did not have any problem before this update.
so far I could not able to solve the issue, not matter what I tried.
@Illusive Man
can you provide more detail how to get that?

I have bit the bullet and changed the battery. Samsung repair shop did the install. On pick up at 15:50, the watch reconnected with my phone, did the update and synchronised at which point the battery went to 84%, from startup at 86%.
It then lasted overnight and for the next day, until the morning of the third day on which it died.
Since then it has lasted 2.5 to three days on one single charge.
I will only be charging it once it dies, not preemptively.
I will continue to monitor and update if any negative changes occur.
See people are still trying to insist it's a battery problem. Not true, most of the issues are software problems.
Still have the original battery in mine and two days is not a problem now. Meanwhile a year ago it didn't last 8 hours.
Charging the watch is a pain because the percentage is way out of whack and doesn't work right but once it's charged it works...
Still absolutely unacceptable for a $350 product that has only worked properly for about a year of the 2.5 years I've owned it due to glitchy software.

My watch now depletes its battery in less than 4 hours. Sometimes if I put it on a charger, the watch would instantly say 64%. I agree with you that it's a software problem. Does it help if I reset the watch? Do I have to replace the battery to solve this problem? Thanks.
I wonder if its a bit of both, battery degrading and the watch failing to reclibrate around it. I actually had a new battery in mine recently (GW42 but some of the same problems) as it was under warranty but if it wasn't I would be tempted to just disconnect the battery for a period of time and then reconnect and see if that is enough to reset the battery usage. Intrigued if anyone has tried this.

Gear sport plugin battery drain

Has anyone else experienced more phone related battery drain after the recent UI update? It's not using alot of battery or anything, but I do see the symbol on the phone were Samsung accessory service is in use way more often now. And prior to update, the plug-in never registered at all in my battery usage. So basically it would use under 1% battery for the entire battery cycle. Now, it uses 2-3% per cycle and I've done nothing different with the phone. Has anyone else noticed this and know how to fix it?
I have the same problem after upgrade to new frameware One UI . Super fast Battery drain.
My friend had battery drain after update. A hard reset fixed it.

He reset the watch.
I have got super fast battery drain as well...its so bad the watch drains even when it is turned off...I used to last 2 days without having to charge the watch but now by end of day I am down to 10% or so...really really baffling. I have reset the watch numerous times but it doesn't seem to get fixed...
And firmwares for this watch are so hard to come by...I wanted to do a downgrade...
