Is there any way to disable the screen automatically turning off during a call (across ROMs), or completely disable the proximity sensor at a system level?
I cracked my phone screen directly over the sensor and it's interfering with my ability to use the keypad during calls.
Thank you!

It would probably be easier to get an app that switches the screen timeout to never when using a particular app. Just do a search in the Play store for "keep screen on". I use an app like "tasker" for other things, but I also use it to keep my screen on when using the dialer.
Is there a way to combine app like Motion Detector Pro to automatically trigger another app which switches smart electric plug on/off ?
I have a smart plug Edimax SP-2101W with which I can turn electric appliances on and off with my phone and I would like to use that phone as a motion detector for that smart plug, so that everytime motion is detected phone would automatically turn appliance on or off.
I tried apps like tasker, macrodroid, etc., but none of them has triggers for the camera or the action to execute command of smart plug app when motion detector app detects movement.
thx..
Hi all,
as you know @tipztv created a tasker Interface for the S2 called TaskS2.
I am curious to see what you're all doing with it! Please share your tasker profiles which you are using with your S2 or things you would like to do with it, but don't know how to do it with tasker. Please share your experience and knowledge for all of us to learn!
TIA
Hi,
nice Thread.
I use my gear s2 to send predefined whatsapp messages with whatstasker like "I'm driving home now" or "when will you be at home?".
Another task is to Start and stop time measuring for a project I'm working on with the App " Zeiterfassung". Dont know the name of the app in english.
For skiing I would like to trigger recording my Actionpro (german GoPro remake) via wifi. Maybe its possible with AutoInput.
I have just finished 2 tasks/profiles to check the capabilities of th interface. It is amazing.
1.) I have my own house automation system.I start a request from my Gear s2 to check the heating status and heating temperatures via http get requests and get the results as notificaton.I can also switch on/off heating manually from the watch.
2.)It was more interesting and powerful.I created my own sound profiles on my Note4(settings for standard mute and vibrating) With the combination of notification task and notification actions(selected as notification action) I am able to select the new sound profile on my watch directly with own images etc.... and switch the profile directly from watch.
With this second example I feel that with tasker capabilities I can use the watch for anything I want.

This app is very cool! But when It comes to turning on apps as action #1 they work. But for action #2 or even trying to create a task to 'kill app' doesn't work for me. Task executes but all apps remain running. And fix for this?

Not sure but I think this (kill app) may require root. Is your device rooted?
Yes it is, however the app itself doesn't ask me for root access.

My profiles are:
1. Dim the screen at night
2. Twist left to boost the screen brightness if I need it (like when I'm outside) and twist right to return to original brightness.
3. Auto rotate in certain apps only
4. Rotate wallpapers every 30 minutes
5. Wave a hand over the proximity sensor to skip to the next song when the screen's off and music is playing. Useful for when I'm driving.
6. Make a popup show up after my morning alarm goes off that shows the date (pulled from system), weather for the day (pulled from wunderground.com), and a motivational "You're awesome, go have a GREAT day!" The popup also shows up with a picture of my favorite actress to brighten my morning even more, haha.
I may not own an S2, but all of these will work with all phones.
Let me know if you want more details about any of these!

Odd. seems to work for me with root permissions unchecked. Does the task itself run and kill apps when you run it directly in Tasker (rather than the S2 app)?
If not then its not a problem with the S2 app and you should post here:

people are generally responsive and able to help with Tasker issues.
Hi, is there any way to make a notification permanent on S2? With tasker I can make notification with buttons and interactions and with permanent status they would work like any standard S2 widget.Even I i set the notification permanent on phone side it is not on th watch side.Is there any way to do this?
I'm using Tasker and TaskS2 to remote start & stop my 2015 Hyundai Sonata. It'd be better if Hyundai released an official BlueLink app but they seem to be focused only on Android Wear.
I also use TaskS2 to mute & un-mute all of my devices for when I take an afternoon nap.

What app do you use to call http requests? Also how do you manage to get variables like your house temperature in the notification? Thanks for sharing.
I'm looking into using tasker to have the watch pair over wifi when possible and use Bluetooth in all other cases. Does anyone have information on how to do this?
Does Tasks2 support showing notifications on the Watch?
Ie: a tasker profile the sends a notification to display it on the Watch.
I have a lot of Task´s but is very tricky to handle this on the watch, because task2s didn´t have folder
So i have Task Light: On-off-green light-red-light and so on
Music: Start Playlist XY... Safe in Plalist XY... Like this song
And any more i use more than 50 Task not every day..but with task2s is very complicated then i have to scroll down and down and down
Folder would be nice
Is it possible to intercept the Rotation of the phone bezzel and to send a Task using TaskS2 then?
Would love to turn the bezzel to set Audio volume using logitech harmony
I have several simple tasks set up for TaskS2. I have tasks set up to set my phone's alarm from my watch, using predefined times. These tasks also set variables, which are then used to create notifications, like a reminder for me to take my meditations an hour before I go to sleep, or telling me when my next alarm is when I ask. I can also toggle silent mode from TaskS2. I just wish I could input variables from TaskS2, so I didn't have to rely on predefined alarm times.
Anyone know how to have Tasker change a setting on the watch? It seems that most of the tasks referenced here have the watch initiate an action to occur on the phone. However, I'd like to have a couple of watch settings change everyday at specific times... I have a Gear S3. Can this be done? Thanks for any help or ideas you may have!
Exactly it'll would be great if this app had more features like those found on TasGear for the first Gear watch.
It could activate functions on the Gear, show messages, ring, etc
TaskS2 and Anymote

How are you accessing an IR device if the watch doesn't have IR?
Smartphone zombies (smombies) are pedestrians so much focused on their smartphones or tablets while walking that they do not notice the obstacles and dangers around them.
Currently, this problem is a serious safety risk not only for smartphone zombies themself, but also for other pedestrians and vehicle drivers.
Pedestrians concentrated on their smartphones get into accidents with subsequent injuries threatening their health, and sometimes this even ends with the death of a pedestrian.
Description App
Assistant SZ is an application for smartphones and tablets using Android that recognizes obstacles to the movement of a pedestrian and warns him about them.
The Assistant SZ detects obstacles using the smartphone's rear camera only when the pedestrian is moving and their smartphone screen is turned on. In this case, the pedestrian can use any basic app they need at the moment.
This helper application recognizes pavement curbs, warning marks (yellow lines, luminous bands), lampposts, road signs as less dangerous obstacles.
At the same time Assistant SZ is able to identify the most serious dangers that can cause irreparable damage to the health of a pedestrian: crossings; train, metro and tram platforms; stairs.
The app warns about a hazard in several ways and has flexible settings: an icon in the taskbar notification area; vibration of the smartphone; sound notification; text message on the smartphone screen.
The best way to protect yourself against injuries and the threat to life is to lock the smartphone screen while walking. That is why the Assistant SZ application has got one more important function - screen lock while walking. It is the maximum pedestrian protection that can only be provided.
The application has also got the ability to display the image from the rear camera on top of the main working application in the form of a window. The window can be moved along the screen of the smartphone with a finger and its size can be changed in the settings. This function allows a pedestrian to recognize the dangers on their way and respond to them.
To detect interference and danger in the dark, the program provides automatic backlighting - the inclusion of the LED backlight camera. This function also helps in identifying obstacles and in daytime in poorly lit places. If necessary, the user can turn it off.
Main features
- Compatibility with other apps – The application operates in the background mode without interfering with the main working applications.
- Multilingual menu – The application’s menu is in different languages. At the moment we are trying to expand the number of languages.
- Energy saving of the phone – The smartphone battery is consumed only while the pedestrian is moving and the screen of their smartphone is turned on.
- Used phone camera – This application uses the rear camera of the smartphone to recognize the barriers of various danger level.
- Flexible danger warning – The application has different ways of alerting you of the danger that the user can modify and customize for themselves.
- Used by the LED phone – To detect hindrances and dangers in the dark the application provides automatic backlighting.
Note
The Assistant SZ is not a complete solution to the Smartphone Zombies problems. And you cannot blindly rely on it when operating your smartphone while walking. It only helps with a certain probability to recognize the danger and warn you about it.
Despite the use of complex methods for obstacles and movement recognition, the Assistant SZ can give false warnings (on the pavement tiles) or fail to notify you at the moment of real danger.
The developers of the application are not responsible for any possible injuries or damages that users may incur as a result of using this application. By installing this application on your smartphone or tablet, you agree that only you are responsible for its use. You use this application at your own risk!

I'm getting up to speed with these units (or specifically a 7862 unit) and would like to find a way to capture the unit losing ACC power or power. I would like to understand the trigger for the count down when power is off and then there can be the 3 second dealy, 10 second delay etc.
Initially I just want to capture that in Macrodroid or Automate or similar without root.
I am also happy to hear any 'left field' thinking on how I might be able to capture the loss of power / turning off the car key in an macro style software.

Tasker allows you to detect the power state (source) in order to trigger actions.
Capturing the ACC_OFF and ACC_ON broadcast is no longer possible after Android 7 due to improved security in Android. Only "same signed" system apps can use that broadcast.
You can never create an app as FYT will never share their key.
I can think of 3 options:
Or to use Xposed on Android >=8 (but that requires a rooted unit and Xposed, and rooting gives issues with Google Assistant and Google voice-feedback on FYT units)
Or to use the USB unmount broadcast as during the "go to sleep" function that broadcast is generated and also on Android 10 that one can still be used to make sure that mass storage devices can be correctly unmounted.
Or to use the nokill function (actually the kill_all method) in the main server app. The nokill option is simply a "one liner" deactivation of the java kill_all method. An option would be to rewrite that method "to start something" that can be used to do what you want (but in that case it is better to create a "hook" in Xposed on that method. That would be easier and cleaner, provided you get Xposed working. And beware of bricks when installing Xposed!).

What's the specific use case? What do you want to do before the head units goes to sleep?
