Hello all,
been trolling the Shield threads since I picked one up last week and have to say I would have thought there would be more activity here. That being said my hats off to those contributing. I do have a few questions that I cannot seem to answer by looking through the posts and searching. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Game On.
Shield K1
MM 6.0
Shield V1.1
1. Root/Recovery. Very confusing on what to use for recovery on the K1. It sounds almost like it's hit and miss. Is it recommended to use 2.8.7.0, 2.8.7.1, or 3.0.0.0 with MM. People seem to be getting hosed up after unlocking bootloader and flashing these recoveries. Has anyone recently does this and which one successfully? Mainly interested in some root apps and killing off the misc battery drain.
2. Not really interested in ROM all that much but interested in using my PS3 controller which I saw someone had a kernel setup for. Anyone successfully setup a PS3 controller?
3. Which combo charger/cable are you using to NOT have touchscreen issues while charging. I'll be out of town for a few months and will use this with HDMI while charging for entertainment purposes.
1. For TWRP I use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/development/wip-twrp-2-8-0-1-unofficial-t2877117 . It works but have issues with touch. You can use the experimental one from here: http://nvidiashieldzone.com/shield-tablet/shield-tablet-k1/root-shield-tablet-v1-marshmallow-2/ That works perfectly.
For Root use the latest beta available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133 It will try to install in systemless mode. When installing it through TWRP look with it detects as systemless mode, because in my Moto X Style I had to force it and it installed in system mode which caused bootloop.
2. Tried the DS4 and DS3 through USB and it works fine. Without wires I only have a solution for DS4 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/using-ds4-nvidia-shield-root-t3282579
3. I bought this one as suggest in another tread: https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B00YON0WI4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . It works without any lag when charging. Using it with this OTG cable: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00EJP5XR2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 so I can charge the tablet and use the controller wired. Just need to plug out and plug in until the tablet recognizes that it's charging.
Works with HDMI as well and right now I'm using a gigabit adapter with a USB HUB so I can have it all connected the same time. Great for playing in the living room via Gamestream.

Followed the instructions on that site and all went well. Used the specified TWRP (with touch issues) as read only but the later version of supersu which was not an issue. initially could not get to recovery but after flashing then direct boot into twrp it worked. after reboot i was also able to adb to recovery just fine. thanks for the help.
Hello, i reality want to activate the LG function Knock on on my new motorola moto g 3.
How I can enable it? I'm on 5.1.1 stock lollipop because I've read that it works better than android 6, I read too that this function need an custom kernel, I prefer to keep my stock rom, is really working amazing, are a way to use this option without touch the kernel?
I want the real knock on, that works with the screen off like LG phones, I've tried some apps but they keep the screen on or the proximity sensor on and this drains the battery obviously, so that's not what I'm looking for, my device is rooted.
Thanks.

You heard right, this requires a custom kernel that has DT2W (Double Tap to Wake) compiled into the kernel, then you have to use a tool like Kernel Aduitor to enable it on each boot since even kernels that have this feature usually have it disabled by default.
Not that this will increase drain battery anywhere from 1% to 3% per hour (usually on the lower end of that range though, depends on usage)

Thanks for the full answer! Well looks very well 1 or 3% of battery for that option, you can say to me what kernel is recommended for this?
AGNi or Explosion kernel are the only two I know with DT2W still enabled... FireKernel used to have it, but it was removed a few versions ago.
Make sure to backup in TWRP before flashing a kernel, if you want to switch kernels after flashing a custom one to try something different, restore the boot partition, and boot fully before flashing a different custom kernel.

Really thank you for your help, now I have another question, do you know how to activate the option on camerafv5 for manual focus? It is possible? I've read that will work with the new camera2api included on lollipop but I dunno how's that.

Pretty sure the G3 doesn't support Camera API2

Thank you very much for the stock rom and the recovery but I had a problem... I flashed the recovery but the phone didn't boot. So I flashed the stock rom hoping it would return as new but the phone is still bricked. It only vibrates like it's booting but nothing else happens. It can't also enter in the recovery mode for some reason. Any ideas on what can I do? Thank you for the support

Low Battery. (this is what my device does when the battery is empty, vibrates but doesn't turn on)
Charger
Be careful with the charger, mine blew up the very first time I used it, 10 min after unboxing.
Thank you very much, I've successfully installed TWRP to my new device and rooted it.
I have one "issue" with phone, it's not related to root and TWRP, but hopefully you can help me. I'm running latest stock ROM (V3.06). I'm used to run Profile Scheduler for switching WiFi On/Off, changing Ringtone to Vibrate mode etc. This app is able to change profiles based on cell towers ID's. But on Bluboo D1 it doesn't work correctly. I can create profile, define cell towers ID's and run it, it switches profile when ran first time, but after some time it's notification icon disappears and app is not changing profiles then. Based on my observation it's happening after several minutes of non-using phone. I think it's caused by Doze which is killing background service of app. I tried to exclude this app from Doze in Settings/Battery, but no luck. Then I tried app called Disable Doze, it displayed that Doze is disabled after I used it's toggle for Doze disabling, but again no luck and Profile scheduler was killed after few minutes
Do you have any idea how to disable Doze on this device permanently? Or do you have suggestion to any other Profile scheduling app which si working on this Phone?
Many thanks in advance

Settings-Inteligent Assist-PureBackground
Turn this off for normal background behaviour.... or select by app.
No idea why this is enabled by default.... Developers!, Bah.

Thank you, I've tried it but without success unfortunately, Profile Scheduler is still not working properly. I'll search for another profile scheduling app...

Since the charger blew up my phone takes 10-11 hours to be fully charged, and the battery drains up unpredictably every now and then. I installed CPU-Z but there was no info on the current draw, so it's very likely that the charge controller is dead already. Did you get the same behavior?
Thanks to all users who reported the charger issue. I have forwarded all reports to the company and they said me the engineering department is looking into it.
Hopefully the new stock of devices will not be shipped with the same charger.
Live wallpaper not found!
Hello, i have a problem with my device, i have latest android upgrade 7.0 version 3.08, live wallpaper missing, i downloaded soo many live wall app but nothing happens, please do something i need assistance, please help me
Can someone link the camera apk? I've uninstalled it by mistake..
Installed TWRP, rooted, rebooted after wiping dalvik/cache and I can't open any apps :/ Ideas?
Hi, thanks very much for the thread and stock rom.
Do you know if any device/kernel tree sources? Thanks
Twrp builder has released twrp 3.2.3 for this device, which also means we now have a partial device tree for twrp
@Alberto96 I am also looking for device/kernel/blob trees for this device so I can (try) to build Lineage for it. Any ideas? Would the manufacturer help out here please?
Is this device similar enough to MAYA to use the device/kernel trees from that as starting point. The camera is very different.

Since I rooted my OnePlus and I installed the Elemental X Kernel I´ve got some useful things like using PowerSave mode on the Ex Kernel Manager so I can have better battery life in tight situations and even some freedom that root now gives to me.
But if I want to do things like play Fortnite with my friends or just use NFC I just can´t. So I thinked about the option of flashing the original boot image of the current version on the boot a (which is not in use) of the Oxygen OS I´m using (11.1.4.4) and then leave the modified boot on the b slot. But if I try to boot into the a slot with that image I just can´t boot my phone.
This would be a great idea if it was working.
Is it possible to get it to work?
Note:About Fortnite, I´ve tried every single thing and nothing worked. Followed every guide and nothing worked. Except for Magisk Core, because it´s not available on the most recent version and downgrading Magisk Manager didn´t work too and also failed Safety Net
NFC problems are only caused by Elemental X
