Hi folks
I bought S7 from Vodafone Ireland. And I would expect it to use VDI-regioned firmware (but I did not notice what was the original region, my fault). I rooted it - and OTA upgrades do not work for me any more. SmartSwitch keeps upgrading with XEU region. Why? Should I bother? Should I (how?) use VDI-regioned firmware? How does SmartSwitch decide which region to use (and how to change that)?
I would like to understand what's going on...
VDI is Vodafone Ireland region
XEU is generic UK/Ireland region
Any comments are appreciated.

Hi mate
Most roms are multi CSC and when that is the case and you flash with CSC instead of home_csc (odin) a default CSC is applied in your case seems to be XEU, if you use home _csc you keep whatever csc you had
Should not make a big difference , you change your CSC to whatever you want but you need to be root
I understand that it should not matter much. But still...
What I do not understand is when my CSC changed from VDI to XEU? Why did SmartSwitch do that? I am root. How would I change it back to VDI?
I look at the Phone INFO app, it says:
Original CSC Code: VDI
Firmware CSC Code: XEU
Active CSC Code: XEU
I would like to have VDI/VDI/VDI if it is possible...
PS I do not think I ever flashed with full csc. At least it seems SmartSwitch is always doing home_csc. If so, it means the original CSC was XEU, right?

Hi
I would think so XEU was probably the original CSC
you can change your CSC but you need to be root , check here

Use updato.com like everyone else then
What is BTU firmware? and should I do it to my phone? Will it mess up my carrier?
I'm on EE (United Kingdom Carrier) and flashed this via odin (https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/116719/G930FXXU1BPLJ_G930FEVR1BPK5_EVR/) I didn't use HOME_CSC. I used the normal CSC. Is this what caused VoLTE active on my phone? Thanks.

BTU is the unbranded firmware, EVR is the EE branded firmware
VoLTE is active in that EVR (EE) firmware.
I did have XEU (seems to be a Samsung generic build CWH put on their phones) on my EE contract phone from CWH that didn't have VoLTE and I wanted it so I flashed my phone with that EVR build to get it.
I assume BTU (Samsung generic) won't have it either until Nougat where the carrier will be able to remotely send it's configs to phones regardless of build variation.
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
I have an S7 on MM, when are Nougat OTA's are coming to the UK? I don't bother rooting any longer but I am tempted to sideload if Samsung are going to take forever.
Depend on what s7 you have?
Edge G935
I'm on a sim only plan with BT so I own my phone rather than rent, I have spoken to BT who tell me its a Samsung OTA and they have no control, and Samsung merely tell me to to contact my Carrier.
Might end up sideloading!
It's already out. What CSC are you using?
Is the device network locked.
Can you install "Phone Info" app from play store and check which CSC is currently set as your active CSC. The CSC is the one based on which the updates are set.

I have the same UK firmware but with BTU. The difference is given below (Copied from someone on xda). https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/help/btu-xeu-t3100911
"I think i worked out the difference between BTU and XEU.
BTU firmware are on phones that come directly from Samsung (unbranded)
XEU firmware are on Sim Free handsets that are generic (unbranded) but not from Samsung"
You can now decide whether to wait for XEU or flash BTU. If you do decide to flash, backup data first and confirm that the active csc is set to BTU for OTA to work.

Is your phone direct from Samsung? Mine is Sim Free, unbranded not from Samsung.
Exu is Ireland band by the looks of it.

I brought it from ebay but I did flash the BTU firmware myself. My phone orignally had multi csc which included BTU and had a german (DBT) csc set as active.
You cannot change the CSC by device but you can flash a firmware with completely different CSC and then flash the BTU one.
I flashed mine with O2U firmware which made it forget the multi csc and then flashed BTU which set the active csc as BTU. I originally flashed the first nougat update release by Samsung and then received the performance update using OTA.
This might make it simple "You are not getting the BTU OTA updates because you don't have BTU CSC but DBT. You flashed BTU Rom but it's a multi CSC Rom and it has inside your original DBT CSC. So your CSC didn't change to BTU...If you want to have BTU CSC so you can get OTA upfates from BTU you have first to flash a rom that it's CSC is not inside the multi CSC you have now, let's say for example a rom with EUR CSC. Then you CSC will change to EUR. After that you can reflash BTU Rom and your CSC will change to BTU...Then you can take the OTA updates from BTU normally..."

Check post number 32, I added the screenshots over there as well.
There is http://updato.com/ as well if you want to download firmware faster (a lot faster than sammobile). I think they are official but have only checked one so far.
Backup the data first, flashing a different csc will factory reset the device.
That's what I kinda done I was on vodafone and preferred to be on btu so I flashed that instead but once I flashed it done wipe cache and data factory reset just to make sure all was ok on another note I kept wifi calling as well.
I was wondering if it's possible to enable VoLTE on an SM-G930F running BTU firmware on an AT&T carrier. Is there any way to get things like WiFi Calling and VoLTE on it, or am I just screwed since I'm using the international variant of the phone?
When I first got it brand new from Wal-Mart, it was running TTT firmware (from Trinidad and Tobago for some reason) and showed normal 3G, 4G, and LTE symbols on my status bar. Since I wanted to get the Nougat update early, I flashed BTU which switched the symbols to H, H+, and 4G. Does that have anything to do with it?
Thanks.
You're certain it's a G930F? And from Walmart of all places? Exynos isn't meant to be sold in the US.
If it's a G930F and you have TWRP you can flash the CSC tool in the development section which has the US carriers, and CSC is what enables VoLTE.
If it's a US snapdragon model you could flash the AT&T CSC via Odin without needing TWRP.

If OP successfully flashed BTU then it has to be a Exynos G930F, but I agree, most phones sold in the US claiming to be the G930F are modded Snapdragons faked to look like it, but they obviously won't allow a Exynos ROM to be flashed to them, so in this case OP has got a real Exynos
Could be the modem (CP) part of the firmware controlling which carrier services you can receive in your region, not sure I'd recommend flashing a US modem to a UK firmware though, unsure what would happen, although the G930F is pretty straight forward to unbrick as long as you can get back into download mode

Where is this CSC tool? I'm not sure what you mean by "development section". I have an Oreo G930F and I'm trying to get VoLTE to work with AT&T.

It hasn't been updated with the newer versions of Android so it's not really a thing anymore.
Next best thing is to download the entire firmware package for your carrier from somewhere like updato then flash only the home_CSC file. Although iirc this might now work if mixing and matching models, which is why the CSC flash tool was a thing.

The trouble is that the G930F was never officially released on US markets, so I can't find a US firmware. I'd gladly use another market's firmware if I knew it would support AT&T VoLTE and "LTE only" mode, but I have no idea how to figure that out!
So it turns out that I have the Canadian SM-G930W8 (as shown on the download mode screen), not the G930F (as shown everywhere else). Identical hardware, but I can only flash Canadian firmware.
Hello,
I got a samsung galaxy s22 ultra which is a USA model. I was having a concern as when i change my csc code to XAA or GCF I don't get ota updates i have to manually update my phone via odin or change my csc to carrier based ones like usc or usc then i get ota update...My phone's model number is SM-S908U and whenever i try to check firmware on sammobile for my model number it doesn't shows any firmware for XAA....
I did some research on my end and some people are saying that XAA doesn't belongs to SM-908U series of phones it is for SM-S908U1 model.....
I have attached a screenshot of my model number and csc of my phone, can anyone guide me if the firmware and model number of my phone are corrct according to the csc code n all stuff and is there any solution for that ota update problem
your firmware is correct XAA ( AIO , ATT MVNO )
for new Samsung device , if you change original CSC you will loose OTA update
GCF | USA (WORLD WIDE)
My question is that isn't XAA csc belongs to U1 model rather than U models
And for csc part when i got the phone my csc was GCF/GCF,XAA/XAA
as you can see in the picture , i'm talking abot S918U and not U1
I want to know if there is any way to check wether my device was U or U1 software initially....
Because i am javing doubt that the person who sold me this has changed the software manually
