Hello,
So i have a portrait touchscreen monitor if i use the usb to hdmi it works but the screen is the wrong rotation.
Putting it in landscape i get full screen but since the monitor is physicly portrait this wont work.
I was wondering is there anything to rotate the hdmi part only so its the correct rotation.
I found some adb commands
setprop persist.demo.remoterotation portrait
setprop persist.demo.rotationlock false
These sadly wont work. (Im rooted)
Also i dont use DEX just want it mirrored.
Hope someone had this same issue and solved it.
Found any solution? Even with my rooted device and these settings it won't work.

Does anyone know of any possible way to disable the forced landscape orientation when the phone is docked? I would like it to retain auto-rotate instead, so I have the option of landscape or portrait when docked. This is primarily for the car dock.
Ive tried manually editing the smali from several de-odexed apk's including DockService, Dock, BlurPhone - but regardless of what I've tried, it still forces the landscape mode.
Is this a kernel property, and if so, are there any properties that can be changed to allow this? I cant stand using the car dock in landscape mode.. My previous Photon auto-rotated. Atrix2 - not at all.
Thanks,
Rick
Hello,
I am interested in keeping the android UI layout in portrait mode when it is connected to hdmi. Was wondering if this can be workedaround by a change to ini, boot or system file.
I currently have SGS2 and an Xperia S, I have HDMI working however the behavior is it shows in portrait for a second THEN the orientation switches to landscape, regardless of the phone's physical orientation. Seems like Android is programmed to go into this orientation when hdmi is connected, but it's not very useful to me...I'd rather it just stay in portrait , or better just follow the darn phone's physical orientation.
The phones should be capable of portrait output as it is shown like that for a second or two before the switch takes place, but how to keep it in portrait/disable it from going into landscape?
Hoping someone that has more programming skill than me-average Joe to find out where, how to do this.
Thanks in advance.
Eric
There's an app called rotation locker in this forum and I think on google play. Requires root though
Sent from my MT15i using xda premium
Tried that app, it didn't work.
The experience seems like some sort of status checking + switching of layout only when HDMI is connected.
I've observed this on stock Androids, if i'm using custom rom on my SGS2, this doesn't happen, so keeping the orientation in portrait CAN happen, just depends on the ROM, so it must be an action tied to HDMI connection being active.
Any more ideas?
You'r phone should have a place in the settings to keep it in portrait mode.
Try this: Settings>Display>Un-check "Auto-Rotate Screen"
Hope this helped
It is already unchecked, that's the first thing I checked naturally.
Anyone that has exp hacking or dived into system files with ideas?
My LG Optimus 3D did not have this problem. It did follow exact orientation of the phone. I see that your SGS2 is HDMI via MHL and an Xperia S is HDMI type-D same as mine.
I had tried the MHL adapter on a Galaxy Nexus and it was the same behavior as Xperia s, the device switched into landscape and can not be rotated the other way so the MHL vs Hdmi out is not the difference here. Good thinking tho.
Anyone else?....
When I plug in my hdmi it auto rotates my screen to landscape. When I go to watch netflix the image is vertical and sideways, is there anyway to fix this?
hdmi is listed under the things which not work in cm10.
I have the same problem and haven't found a fix.
I have tried a number different emulators on my TF700 and I have found that a number of them (SuperGNES) for instance, will display fine on the tablet but their output is blurry on the TV via HDMI. The screen will even sharpen up for a second when I swap to another app or a menu but when playing it goes blurry. All other pps seem to display fine. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or knows of a solution?
Thanks
UPDATE: Retroarch seems to work fine but I can't seem to get it to work with my 8bitty or my onlive universal controller

Prob the emulator itself. Is it stretching the screen for a standard definition out put rather than HD? Time to contact the emulator maker. it may look fine on the tab but that is because the screen is much smaller.
My Z520e on stock ICS is stuck in landscape mode. Here's what I've tried:
factory reset
cleaning USB ports (apparently worked for a few people on this thread)
installing rotation locking apps
One peculiar symptom is that whenever I connect it to the computer using a USB cable, it switches to portrait. Pull the cable and it goes right back.
Is there any way I can fix this without returning the phone?
Not a proper solution but... disable autorotation with the htc widget?

First thing I tried (should've mentioned that ). Doesn't work
Do you get the landscape mode on the homescreen too? That's supposed to happen only when the hdmi output is enabled.

Yes, homescreen too. And I suppose that's how it's come to pass, something like a three-finger swipe to enable MHL.
How do I fix this?
Then the problem is not related to the accelerometer, I'd guess.
Imho it's likely that the micro-usb port is bugged. You may want to try to run a RUU (you may find the ICS 2.31 RUU here), so that you can definitely exclude a software issue.
If you are rooted there could be some workaround to force the interface into portrait mode (editing the rosie.apk), but that involves some work. If your warranty is still valid I fear you need to send the phone in...
I'm actually out of warranty, so I guess I'll have to root and try tweaking the rosie.
Thanks, though!
