Hey guys, I'm about to buy the Huawei Mate 8 and I was wondering; If I install Nova Launcher (and personalize to my preferences the phone - I want all my apps in a place, not in the homescreen), does it remove some important functionality? I mean, I want to use the fingerprint scanner and the camera app, I haven't used an Android phone for about 2 years or more so that's why I'm asking things that you might find obvious.
Thanks for your help :good: .
No Problem, I'm using currently Nova Launcher on the device. Everything working fine
Only "problem" I've seen (doesn't bother me as I don't use it) is using the dual window launcher. You can split the screen from within a compatible app but not from the Nova launcher. Other than that all other functions are normal for me, been using Nova launcher since day one with my Mate 8

Oh that's amazing, last question: Can you use the app to give permision to others apps to work in background and to save battery? I've read that the Mate 8 has a great app management and also battery saving mode so that makes me curious.
Thanks for your help man.
yep, the app u mean is phone manager and it works just fine with nova launcher

Does anyone get this message more often on Honor 8 saying, "Sorry, an error occurred. Your home screen icons will be re-arranged to their default positions." ? I am getting it at-least once in a week and it resets the icon arrangements including the folders I made as per my usage priority. This is so embarrassing. I am using EMUI 4 latest update. Do let me know if I am the only one facing this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sure, I will give Nova a try.
How do I do the extract from an update and re-instal ? I am sorry, I am new to Android. I have been an iOS user for almost a 5 years (3 years with iPhone 4S and 2 years with iPhone 6). For the 1st time, I thought of giving a try for Android. I hope I wont regret my choice.

You can flash the stock firmware over to see if it is a problem with the software. (might wipe data on phone)
I don't have the phone so not 100% sure, someone else on this forum probably could help you more

Hi,
Please verify if the shake to arrange option is enabled on your device by pinching the Home screen>More settings. Also, you can do a backup of the device using HiSuite and perform a full factory reset to see if the issue manifests itself afterwards.
Cheers

No. The shake to arrange option is not enabled on my device. With the CM launcher I am using now, I do not face this issue so far. This was happening only with the stock launcher.

After using a launcher, I am not getting the issue. But, at times the launcher gets switched to EMUI, even though I have selected a different launcher (CM launcher, Nova, Google Now etc.)
I assume that is also a bug with EMUI.

Build Prop Editor https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor&hl=en
In Build.Prop lower the values of each from whatever values currently exist. Both #'s must be the same.
"ro.sf.lcd_density="
"hw.lcd.density="
For examples choose a number 640, 520, 480, 400, 320, 240 & 160.
Remember to save each time & restart the phone after each attempt.
keep lowering the numbers until it starts working properly.

I"ve got two Honor 8 phones and both have always had this problem. It may happen once a week and sometimes once in two weeks. Neither phone has ever had EMUI as the default launcher, one has Nova and the other uses Microsoft launcher. I've learned to live with it since it happens so infrequently. This problem has been reported in the Nova Launcher Google+ community by others so I expect it's a EMUI compatibility problem.

I use Action Launcher and can confirm this is the case. However, I disabled the stock launcher so even when the 'Smart Recovery's message pops up it's unable to restore to default stock launcher and leads me back to Action again.
It's definitely a EMUI compatiblity problem.
Huawei mate 10 pro BLa l29 same error.
I just update my device mate 10 pro bla l29 c185. And it has an error. My device use stock laucher and, I has reset factory when I see error fisrt. But, it only show when I restart my device, such as restart or power on schedule. Temporary, I press back button to exit this error. If I press ok button, my device will be arranged.
Hi everyone,
Has anyone tried to put Nova launcher on their Honor 8? I have recently decided to change the look of my phone a bit so i downloaded the Nova launcher (prime). I managed to modify it to my liking but there is one problem with it - i think that it is slowing my phone down a bit. App opening seems to be slower and even scrolling through pages in apps is a bit laggy (facebook, instagram, chrome, etc..). I think that my phone is working better on stock emui launcher. I really like the google feed which is not available on EMUI 5.0.1
Is there anyone else who encountered the same issue? Is there any way to fix this? I tried to change the animation time in phone and nova settings and it is not helping...
Thank you.
I have Nova on mine and it doesn't run slow at all. Maybe try turning off App Animations in the Look and Feel section?
I've been running Nova on mine for over a year, and can say that I have never noticed any slowdowns at all.
Same as the person above have been running nova launcher since i bought it back in september and havent experianced any slowdowns
Ok then the problem seem to be with my phone only. Maybe i should restore it to factory settings as i haven't done that yet. I guess i will just stay with stock emui launcher for now. .. Thanks for help

Hey just convert NOVA LAUNCHER to system app thats it. It runs flawlessly
Ran it on my Honor 8 and never noticed a slowdown with it.
Thank you for you help regarding it. I wouldn't say that the phone is lagging with Nova launcher. It just seems to be slower than with EMUI launcher which is what i don't really like. Maybe it is just in my head. I think i will stay on emui launcher for now.

Try removing the spyware and resource hogs 'facebook, instagram' and I am sure it will run much faster its certainly not Nova.

Using magisk module!
Some tips I discovered. It starts to run smoothly after I granted acces in advanced settings security device administrator, then Apps- Special settings - ignore battery otimization, draw over the apps, write system settings
Been using Nova Classic since I got my phone. Since I love the old Holo look I prefer this version. Never looked back. Works great.
Still using my Honor 8 on Android 6 and EMUI 4.1.
See no reason to upgrade.
I love the pixel Launcher but i want to try something different ,always use Nova but ITS unestable .
Any recomendation?
I use evie Launcher, only 2 bugs already spotted.

Unstable? Hardly. Been using Nova Prime since day 1 (late Aug) on this device with both A10 and A11. As have many others. Look closer to home for a fix to the (your device config) stability issue.
Nova here too, no issues other than maybe one in 10 days the Google Feed background changes to white. Restarting Nova fixes it for another week or two.
Sent from my Pixel 4a using XDA Labs
Nova here, too. I have never experienced instability.
Nova is king. I've had Nova on all of my phones going back to the Note 2 quite some time ago. I'm actually holding off on installing it this time around on my P4a and trying to get used to stock.
I used Nova for years but going back to the Pixel I been trying the native launcher.
I like it, but I can not resize or skin icons and for this reason may go back to Nova Launcher.
Lawnchair 2 is my recommendation. Very similar to Pixel Launcher, but customisable and free.
Although no update for nearly a year could be an issue for some.
Square Home if you like the look of windows mobile.
I have been using Microsoft Launcher. Love that the apps are grouped alphabetic by letter. If Nova could do that I'll switch to Nova though.

Not well suited to Android 10+ navigation metaphor; increasing number of unresolved issues; not updated since late 2019. Launcher (like underlying device/os/rom) should not be a focal point.
I use the beta version of lawnchair2. No issues.
In the past was NOVA Prime. Not sure why I switched, but these are my top 2 go to's.
hello,
i use nova launcher and have an issue:
when i do the upswipe to leave an app and want to open another one after that then sometimes i have a stutter, as if the launcher did a little restart.
do you have this too?
kind regards

Haven't see that (yet). Might be app and/or device config specific.
I got Smart Launcher 5.5 on my Pixel 4a
No Problems so far.
Can someone do this setup and give steps here please...
Hello, I recently had on my poco F2 pro european version, the update to android 11. Since this update (12.2.1.0) gesture navigation on nova laucher bug while on android 10 there was no problem. Gesture bugs occur on all alternative launchers. Only back gestures work, and Home and Recent App only works on the Home page. It is impossible to go to home when I am on facebook for example. I don't know where it comes from, after the advice on xiaomi after-sales service I carried out a factory restore but without success. Thank you in advance for your answers.
Same as you, only I'm on the global version. Tried the factory reset as well.
For me just recents don't work.
Read the link for more info
MIUI 12 issues still exist with Nova, Lawnchair, & other 3rd-party launchers
Xiaomi's MIUI 12 still casues issues with thrid-party launchers like Nova, Lawnchair, and more as per the latest user reports.
piunikaweb.com
Same here, 'recents' don't work with Smart-Launcher'
Okay, from what I can see I'm not alone. Do you think this will be resolved with future updates or is android blocking this?

It's probably MIUI issue, because it works in AOSP ROMs.
Ah okay I thought the problem was similar to that android 10 at launch. What surprises me is that miui 12 under android 10 did not have this problem ...
same, i'm using lawnchair launcher. need to use default launcher for the time being.

I don't know, some say it works
Just don't update to latest "stable", it's not worth it.
In addition to lack of gesture support for 3rd party launchers (a huge annoyance, since if they don't restore these, I'll probably ditch F2 and move on to something more useable, besides Poco's launcher is a proper eyesore with that big bar at the bottom). Also I've been having issues with performance, lack of smoothness & often times Youtube crashing for no reason (when I'm not using it etc.).
Holy ****! So it's not just me.. Guess it's time to root my phone
ok, i have not found a working launcher! (i have tried 12x different apps!)
btw:
Nova 7 beta has the same problem!
no way out!
btw.
i have written to nova dev. They have answered they could not do anything against that behavior because xiaomi have to do that.
Must be a Poco F2 Pro specific issue..
i have seen, that the size of newer versions of poco launcher (>v. xxx.10) was reduced more than 10mb against older versions. No wonder, that we got problems.
no differences in behaviors if miui optimization is switched to on or off. Same result!
so wie have to wait for newer firmware fixes.
I have same problem, i cant open recents, and cant use gestures with other launchers.
Can some of you recommend custom rom with "swipe gestures" and "wake up on taking up" the fone features?
