So I'm curious if there is any way to get what i'm looking for on my Note 20 Ultra. Like many of you, I get a TON of notifications. I'm also one of those people that turns the volume to off at work, and tend to keep it that way. The problem with this is I tend to miss phone calls. When I unlock my phone, I have quite a few notifications in the panel from twitter, youtube, gmail, whatsapp, telegram etc and missed calls tends to get buried. Notifications in the status bar get pushed out rather quickly, ( fills up ) so I have to pull down to view notifications and sometimes calls are buried at the bottom and I miss seeing it. What I would love to have is the ability to pick say two or three most important notification types ( say phone calls, youtube video I'm subscribed to and Signal app ) and ONLY those notifications show up on my lock screen. Preferably with a PREVIEW of the content. So that way while at work or at home, I can quickly see if I have missed a call and from who; Any SIgnal messages and any subscriptions on YouTube that have published a new video. I only want a few apps able to do this. Is this possible? Some of the content I view on Youtube is kinda time sensitive, so as soon as a video is published I would like to see that notification IN MY FACE the moment I look at my lock screen. Any ideas?

Hi All
I can't seem to get Edge Lighting notification to work consistently.
Everything seemed fine the first few days when i had Always On Display enabled, however with it off, it seems to have a mind of its own.
I have Edge Lighting set to "Always", every single notification enabled, transparency is 0, width is the highest and color is set to "App Color"
With those settings, the popups would appear only sometimes.
I then figured out that the individual apps themselves need to have "pop-up" notifications enabled.
Now with that enabled in a handful of apps, i get notifications for those - however, there are a lot more apps that don't support it! Google Hangouts for example!
And on top of that, Whatspp seems to be the only application that actually keeps an icon on my screen until i grab the phone. all the other icons disappear once the lighting stops.
Any thoughts as to what i'm missing?
or is this just how edge lighting works?
I've not been able to get even one app to work when the screen is off.
To me the EL notifications work for all apps but only not for Viber.. they light up, but dissapear... and what's worse, when I unlock the phone later, there is NO notification that there is new message....

Ahh! yes this happens to me all the time too.
What a strange system.
Cant comprehend how it works perfectly fine for some apps, and not at all for others.
Glad to know its not just me!
If you are on Oreo, you can use Notification Channels to "force" the app's specific notifications to "Urgent" which will "Make sound and pop-up on screen." Unfortunately, in order for it to work with screen-off, the app has to have built in the ability to "wake screen," which is why apps like samsung messages, textra, whatsapp, snapchat all have the ability to work with the screen off. you can use a 3rd party app like Glimpse Notifications to force app notifications to wake the screen, but when you receive a EL Pill notification, it will be with Glimpse's icon, and no message details.
Also apps like facebook messenger, which have custom notification API's (because of chat heads and special things that facebook enables in this app) will NOT play nicely with EL Notifications. I have tried everything to get it to play nice with this app, but it also does NOT target Oreo for notification channels, so I cannot force it. I can force it with "Autonotification" app from Tasker, but it's not enough to trigger it.
Hope this information helps a little bit for ya. What really needs to happen, is Samsung needs to program EL Notifications in the system level, rather than as an app that runs (Edge Screen apk) so that it can monitor notifications on a system-level rather than Piggy-backing off of Android's notification system. That way, no matter what the notification is within the app, it will display in Pill-form when the screen is off and on. In order to get to more information, or reply in-line, then you bring down the notification shade and voila.
But, I've reported this to Samsung numerous times, and have never received a reply from them. Here's to hoping that maybe it gets a revamp/improvement when the S9 comes out.
I am currently using Galaxy S9 Plus on Verizon and with Apex launcher. From the last week, when I get a text message or a new message in Facebook Messenger I don't just get a notification in the bar at the top, but an actual pop-up that comes up over the top of anything else and goes all the way across the top of the screen and about three quarters of an inch tall. It stays up for four or five seconds before going away. As you can see this is pretty annoying and I have tried to control it but I can find no setting regarding this matter. It does not seem to be app specific as it comes up with texts, voice mail notifications, Facebook messenger message notifications and maybe others. Does anyone know how to get rid of these and have just the normal notifications?
After a month plus of waiting the phone came in today and right off the top there is good and not so good but have posted this prior to getting the phone for a family member
They have suffered a stroke so have some finger range of motion.
Coming from iPhone 12 we need the ability to have notifications to appear on opened lock screen like this and can not figure out how to get this to work..
All we get now it the screen sometimes lights up but no notifications other then the badges at the top and dim icons (twitter, IG, FB, email etc)
Thoughts?
Change the settings
Settings -> Lock Screen -> Notifications
Coming from an iPhone, it might be a good idea to look through the phone. It's going to be different, but you will find a lot of the same functionality.
Hello, I switched from iPhone to Galaxy A52. Instantly noticed that notification systems are different: on iPhone, I could just scroll down into infinity; On Galaxy, it shows only a few recent notifications. So I installed NotiStar — it solved half of the problem, but new problems appeared:
When viewing from the lock screen, notification bubbles are transparent: I can see background, clock, etc. — way harder to read notifications.
On iPhone when I open notification it brings me directly to the source. For example, I receive a message from a friend, click on it, and it opens our chat. Notistar just opens the application. Most of my notifications come from Telegram, where I have like 100 channels and chats — it becomes tedious to search for the right one.
Sometimes my notifications get duplicated. Happens like: I receive a message in Telegram but don't open it, it appears in Notistar. Then I receive 2 more messages. Somehow they are logged grouped with the first one. The process repeats until I view or clear the received message from the notification center.
Please, tell me, how can I fix all that? If not with NotiStar, maybe with another app?
TL;DR: I want a chronological scrollable notification feed, that will bring me to the right chat when clicked
Hello everybody,
I got my device yesterday and i am still trying to sort things and settle down.
I have one question which is driving me nuts.
In my previous phones (latest being OnePlus 6t), i could make the apps (such as instagram and WhatsApp) not to show the message but only the notification badge and how many things i am missing (such as 2 messages, 2 chats or 2 messages 1 chat).
On S22 Ultra, i can hide the context on AOD but the context is always seen on while the phone is unlocked/on homescreen.
Would appreciate if you can help me solve this issue.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Press the notification till you see "settings" menu. Select the notification type you want (push the text, for ex. "new messages for sim 1") Than select "silent" and enable app icon badges. You should be ok.
Nope didn't work. Still can see the message there.
In Settings>Notifications> Lock screen (Display), do you have 'hide content' set?

Nope,
This was how my old phones used to act;
If the screen was off, it would wake briefly, show the whatsapp icon and go back to turned off screen.
On the lock screen, when i wake the phone, it would show the whatsapp icon and that is all.
On home screen, when i scroll down, it would show whatsapp icon and number of chats and messages but not the details of the messages (like 2 chats, 3 messages).
But wouldn"t give details like "Nicole: How are you doing"
My new S22 Ultra acts like below;
On lock screen, it acts correct. Only whatsapp image pops when i receive a message.
When it is awake and when it is on home screen, it pops the whole message for me to read. And when i pull down the notification pane, the whole message is there for me to read.
I have fingerprint activated on my whatsapp.
Now, if anybody can read and reply to the whatsapp message by pulling down the notification menu, what the hell is the reason of a fingerprint layer on whatsapp entry...
They can simple send one message to me and they can see whole of the newly received messages.
As well as, this causes the above mentioned issue. Where people can read delicate messages when i am showing something else in a different app...

Yes i do.
That hides it only when phone is locked.
Let me try to post some pics of what i am trying to explain.
Alright got the pics.
At first, you can see the lock screen acts as it should. Doesn't show the context/content
But on the second screen, where it is notification menu scrolled down, the message can be read.
And the same happens if i am doing something with the phone when the message is received.
So, people looking at my screen can see the message.
Please also note fingerprint login is also enabled for my whatsapp. So this totaly kills the point of fingerprint log in.
And when i figure this out, i will also need to hide other notifications as well.
When i receive an email, i will show how it was on my other phone's notification panel.
Since whatsapp doesn't allow multiple devices at once (cellular) i can't show with whatsapp message.
I hope this gives a general idea of what i am trying to sort out.
And here how it was on my old phone. It shows content hidden on notification menu for the apps i have closed preview of.
Whatsapp, instagram etc.
The reason there are 2 separate outlooks is one is a calendar alert and other is actual email.
If i had like 5 mails and no alerts, it would show as one outlook and say 5 emails with one notification.
you can also see that instagram is also hidden as content.

At least i sorted the WhatsApp.
Having 2 messaging app doesn't help.
One doesn't have the options you showed, but it also have the block/blacklist option.
I also need to find where the app lock is on Samsung. Where i can fingerprint lock the apps i choose to.

I presume that's your Android messaging version there, cause i only use the Samsung one.
You'll find it in Play Store
I need help!
One thing I had hate on my 22 Ultra is the combined notification sounds. I want to separate system sounds, text messages sounds and app sounds. Nothing seems to be working. It all comes back to this screen and it's all combined. I need away to separate them.
Any help?

Go to Apps section.
Select the app you want to configure.
Click on Notifications.
Notification categories.
You will be able to select individual sounds for everything separately.
Some will be trial and error tho
