Thank's

Samsung has disabled the dialer code ages ago that would let you easily see the lock status. So you will either need a SIM to test it or you can check the IMEI. Also, don't forget to make sure the IMEI isn't blacklisted.
You can do that here... https://swappa.com/imei

Need a quick answer regarding SIM cards

Hey guys, I'm new to the G1. I just picked a used one up the other day to use over seas. I reset the phone not knowing I need a SIM in there to actually use it. I don't have access to a SIM card currently, but I will have one when I go over seas. Will the phone unlock so I can root it with a SIM card from a different carrier? Or do I need to have a TMobile one in there? My plan leaves tomorrow early morning, so I'm kind of in a bind when it comes to solving my phone issues.

Oops, I thought I posted in General.
The sim card from n e where will work for the rooting process so don't stress that. These instructions will get u n to the phone with out the sim card. http://theunlockr.com/2010/01/10/how-to-activate-the-g1-without-a-data-plan-or-sim-card/
Good luck!

If the phone is locked , you need to get it unlocked first....otherwise it wont use any other network sim other than t-mobile.
The easiest way to unlock it is to call t-mobile and ask them for unlock code by giving them IMEI number of the phone (can be found in the MENU--->SETTINGS---->ABOUT PHONE----->IMEI NUMBER)
They provide the unlock code for free.
Once you have it unlocked, then whatever sim you insert, you will be asked to enter the unlock code. Enter that code and phone will start using that sim.
If you dont get it unlocked here from T-mobile then get it unlocked from the country where you are going...but the charges and success rate of unlocking depends on which country you are going to.....it is very easy and cheap in South Asia like India and Pakistan.....but difficult in Middle East.....
So the best alternative might be to buy a cheap GSM phone there and sell it when you return here.
Have a happy and safe journey
Thanks for the help everyone. Unfortunately, Tmobile couldn't give me an unlock code since I'm not their customer. I've got some more digging to do. I came across some sites offering the code for a fee, are they legit? I just don't understand how they get the code when I can't.
Go to ebay and buy it. for abt $6.49, they will give the code to you. I unlocked mine via ebay... Try any seller.
Based on timezone, buy from US seller or your local seller to get it quick.
Like for US try http://cgi.ebay.com/UNLOCK-CODE-T-M...025?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5f205f99
Make sure u provide them your IMEI code.. dial *#06# Or look under battery.

S8+ locked, even after making 5 minute calls

Hi
I bought a European S8+ on the day of release in Spain and on the box there was a notice advising that I need to make a 5 minute call from a European SIM before I could use it in another region. I work in China, so I made 2 calls in Europe with an Orange SIM, both over 5 minutes, before I left. When I arrived in China, my SIM did not work and was requesting a PUK code. There is no problem with my SIM as it works with my other phone fine. I requested a PUK code, but this will not unlock the phone either. My friends in China have all tried their SIM cards in the phone, but none of them work and it asks for a PUK code each time, but their SIMs work fine in their phones. Is there anything I can do as the phone is essentially useless if I can't use it in China as I spend so much time there.
Thanks in advance.
I could be wrong, but I think your PUK code is SIM related and not phone.

Yes, the PUK is SIM related. I got the PUK code from my operator in China and that did not work either.
Maybe this thread can help you:

Just wondering: do "Chinese SIM-cards" work in a UN-locked European phone?
China has it's own version of the S8/S8+!

Yeah, they work fine. All of my other phones are unlocked from Europe and I've never had a problem before.
I was thinking of getting an unlock code from Unlock Radar - does anyone think that will work?

SIM unlock S+

Hi,
Looking in this forum but can't see how to SIM unlock my S+. Phone was locked so I re-flashed with Odin but can't find guide to unlock SIM.
Phone is locked to UK Vodafone.
Can you send me please guide if there is some? Thanks
What is the message your phone displays when you insert a SIM card other than Vodafone UK (ie, a non-accepted SIM card) and try to place a phone call?
If the phone is locked, it will ask you for unlocking codes.
Yes, it's asking for unlock code. I could fix this with odin and some flash on my S7 Edge but how can I do this on S8+?
As far as I know you should buy the unlock code on eBay. Actually it depends on operator (each operator has its own way to lock it). For example Verizon doesn't lock GSM part on the modem for their phones at all. Sometimes remote unlock procedure is required (you will pay to third party and they will do it through the Teamview). The price depends on operator. There are 99% that you will not do it for free by yourself.
There is one chance to do it yourself only if your provider made some calling time lock. For example you have to insert Vodafone SIM card and make a phone call for some 5-10 minutes (but it shlould be done inside the country of phone's origin, UK in your case). Try to ask someone with a same Vodafone UK phone.
You can do it with Odin only if it was not really locked from the beginning but just had some carriers bloat, that was asking for that unlock.
What is exact model of your S8+? What does it says in Bootloader mode?
But actually I could do this with S7 edge. So S8 has some protection?

Based on other operators experience I would say you cannot do it by yourself as usually simple flashing will not unlock the phone. You will really need one of paid methods to unlock it. It is still better to ask someone with a same Vodafone phone. As unlockers on ebay etc. make money with those methods I don't really believe that someone here will tell you how to do that by your own.
There was a thread where the guy was discussing unlock for his Austrian locked phone. Finally he paid twice as first seller sold him some wrong unlock code and phone became network blocked completely. However he bought some "unfreeze" code from different seller and that worked for him. If it would be so easy to unlock operators phones they will never sell them cheaper than unlocked.
Another option is still to perform call with original Verizon UK SIM card for 10 minutes. After that you should reboot your phone and it should be unlocked. If it will not work you can approach Vodafone UK and ask them for unlock code. If there was no any financial issues for that phone and it is registered more than 6 months in the network they should provide you with unlock code for free.
Sorry if I didn't help you too much.

Note 20 Ultra Sim Unlock

Hello guys,
I just got my Note 20 Ultra sim locked to Verizon, is there someone that can help me Sim unlock it or do you know of any reputable online service?
I'll tip any user willing to help sim unlock it
Thanks
UPDATE: i odin flashed the XAA firmware.
I get service for the first 5 min and it asks about sim unlock code after that, weird but intresting. I guess the sim lock is software based maybe. I'm pretty sure something can be done to unlock it perm besides buying an unlock code
I flashed the unlocked rom to my vzw note 20 ultra and same thing works for 5 min then no service and asks for code. Its stored in the phone itself. Careful entering your imei in sites as they resell them to be flashed to phones in other countries with black listed imeis.

Flashing the unlocked firmware will not SIM unlock your device. Firmware does not affect the SIM status.
You will have to have it unlocked by Verizon, or through a 3rd party.
DM me and I can show u the 3rd party way..but it's not "cheap"
Verizon phones are locked for 60 days after purchase / activation. They unlock automatically after 60 days.

Sim unlocked or not?

I've got a p40 pro (ELS-NX9) dual sim. I bought it off ebay reseller as sim unlocked and have used it on EE for over a year.
I am changing to the 3 network and their sim doesnt work - the phone asks for a sim unlock code. I rang EE and asked for a code to sim unlock, they said it would take a couple of days.
Today I got a message from them saying it is sim unlocked already.
Any ideas why the 3 sim doesnt work? Is there a way I can check?
I have both sims in the phone and tried them in opposite sides of the sim holder. The sim settings are fine. I have put google on it - would this make a difference? I dont want to go through the hassle of backing up everything again!!

”The SIM card unlock code, is the PIN number that came by default on your SIM card or the SIM card PIN that you set yourself. The purpose of having a SIM PIN is if someone found your SIM card they would not be able to make a call or access the info on it without first entering your SIM card PIN number”
Should be written on the SIM- big sim holder Card. ( default could be 1234 or 0000)

So why does my original EE sim work with no pin? The 3 sim is brand new and has no service, it arrived pre activated by 3, all I had to do is put it in the phone. I guess I should say network unlock instead of sim unlock?

A brand new sim come with the PIN written as on image, by default. You can remove it, change it, but first of all you need to provide the PIN code on the first connection to have access on it. It doesn't care if it has service or not.
It is better to try that SIM card in other phone. Maybe this other phone will provide you the same request.
Also you can ask a SIM (3 network) from a friend that for sure has the PIN inactive to see if it works on your phone.

Not in this case, the sim is pre-activated. It is a carrier code that is needed
I understand. It can be unlocked. I think it is not for free, but you will find solutions on-line or in service (not Huawei service).

According to EE the phone is unlocked, according to 3 it isn't blacklisted, waiting for a new sim now to try again.
Ifr it is locked, it will be the first P40 Pro locked that I have ever heard.
I've had a reply from Huawei, It was sold to EE locked to their network. According to EE it is unlocked lol! Back to EE I go I guess
