The main reason I use nova launcher is the gestures. For some reason I can't expand quick settings or notifications with Nova gestures on this phone. Anyone else able to do this?
Yes this is known. Can't do it on my S5. I think it's a Lollipop or Samsung Lollipop issue wit Nova.
For some reason you can't do this with the stable Nova Launcher. However, if you download the latest beta and you try it will tell you to turn on accessibility for Nova in settings and then it will work.
THANK YOU 0dBu!
My pleasure.
Broke in L.
They are aware though and it will be in the next update.
Same one her on the apex launcher

Glad it's know...not glad I have to wait for a full-on update.
The beta is super stable. Just download that and get your gestures back.

Trying to switch to Nova Launcher. Changing the default launcher to Nova doesn't stick. The default keeps resetting automatically back to EMUI. Looking for a solution.
i have the mate 9 and nova launcher prime, on my phone it sticks to nova launcher, you have to set the default to nova launcher and then keep pressing the back button until you exit the setting pages. If you close the settings after it may create problems. Also, you can set default voice control to google launcher3 this will enable google now to be on all the time and on any screen. This works well on my phone. Also if you install google Allo app, then you will get google assistant on that app, so when you say "ok google, open google allo app", you will get google assistant. My experience with the mate 9 has been good, but overall i think the galaxy s7 edge wins hand down. If you are considering getting the mate 9 pro, then dont, get the s7 edge and then upgrade to s8 that will be launched in march/april 2017.

Thanks, that's how I do it. But, EMUI still keeps taking over.
Go to default application settings and choose nova as default.
Nova
Have you installed nova prime?,
If you have, then follow the steps i posted, if it still doesnt work, factory reset your phone and then install nova prime first and then google launcher3 app straight afterwards. This will stop any other apps from drawing over nova and google launcher., plus you will have nova and google now from any screen by saying "google now", also if you install google allo app, then saying "ok google open up google allo app, you will get google assistant. Google assistant is loaded into allo app. Drop me email and let me now how you get on. This works for me, even if i reboot phone it still works. I think when you are selecting nova launcher as default app, huawei home is drawing over that app to set itself to default. Also in app permissions you should select yes for everything for nova (trusted app) and also google launcher3. This will then allow nova and google launcher3 (which is the newer version of google now) to draw over apps you install afterwards.
Please email me and let me know how you get on, i am sure it will work after you do this...,
Why this one doesn't work?

It works, but after a while EMUI becomes default again.
One of my buddys have the same Problem. But he get a Error Message that the Nova Launcher get a conflict with EMUI.
By the way, another good launcher comes from Microsoft. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
It works fine on my Mate 9
Enabling "Agressive Desktop" in Nova settings seems to have fixed this.
This is driving me crazy. Only happens occasionally. The only pattern I can detect is in the car with Waze and Google Music playing through Bluetooth which seems to nearly always result in Huawei Home becoming the default launcher.
Tried the above and granting Nova and Nova prime "ignore battery optimization" all to no avail.
I am using the Chinese Mate on B153.
Any further suggestions?
I'm having exact same issue. Really hope they fix this with a software patch.
Besides nova launcher, have you guys been able to get any other launchers to work stable?

I have the same issue driving me nuts.
I contacted nova and they suggested uninstalling nova and reinstalling which I did ok for a night then the same problem .
I hope once I get my bootloader code and install the europe ROM it might help if it keeps doing it it's a deal breaker for me I think
Been using a combo of Google now and nova launcher for a week.
.That was on b110. Still going without issue on b138.
Assuming you guys are setting up default in the setting/app/setting/defaultapp
Yes I do the deafaults and it's ok for a while then bang unlock the phone and it's reset it's a pain

Article went up on androidauthority today. It was about mate 9 issues and fixes. Might want to check it out. Doubt there is anything new there though.
Have you factory reset yet? Reinstalled ROM/update. It's definitely a bug
Was going to wait for my boot loader unlock code first ðŸ˜
I've had the same problem when running Chinese firmware. This problem, thank goodness, does not exist with non-Chinese firmware.
That's what I was hoping for 7 days left so I can apply for the code then I can use funky to blitz it
Hello! I cannot get the Quick Dial widget to work at all! It works if I use the stock launcher, but not when I use Nova Launcher. I'm running the latest version of Nova Launcher (5.0.2) on a rooted Huawei Mate 9. I can create the link/icon but when I try to click it, it says "permission denied." Is there any way to fix this? I would hate to have to switch back to the stock launcher because of this!

I'm going to repost this in the Nova Launcher thread, just to see if maybe someone there might know something.

Hi,
To circumvent this problem with the direct-call widget some people recommended Speeddial.apk. The free version only lets you create dial-contacts while the pro version also allows sms-contacts. But since SMS widgets already work (they use a different app to actually direct-text) the free version is sufficient. The only problem of Speeddial is its big storage requirements and the regular nagging to obtain the pro-version.
A much better alternative IMHO that is completely free is Quickdial.apk. This is widget-app is only limited to dialer-shortcuts but it only requires 384kB instead o/t +2MB of SpeedDial. Beware that some people might not like the look of QuickDial's widgets.

Hi guys,
Could someone please confirm if the Nova Launcher's Direct Dial shortcuts work in the new Mate 9 EMUI 5.
I'd be happy to upgrade but there's one thing that's stopping me.
I've been using my Mate 7 running KitKat 4.4.2 and EMUI 3.0 for a couple of years now. It's my main business tool. I basically got stuck with it as any further firmware update was ruining the Direct Dial function in my Nova Launcher, and I highly rely on it. It was failing to dial with "permission denied" error. They say it's a problem with EMUI but there's NO fix. I tried every possible way to make it work.
PS I know you can get other direct dial apps, but unfortunately they can't be assigned to Nova's gestures, and that's how I need it.
Thank you
I'm using romaur 1.5 and I'm on the beta program for nova prime. At some point it started working again. Couldn't tell you what it was though, I think maybe the latest version of nova fixed it on their end.
This problem bugged me for a very long time, but now it seems this ROM and phone does almost everything I want and how I want. I come from a nexus 5, so the lack of options here was a very sore spot at first but now I'm a happy camper and this bug was the last thing that bothered me.

Thanks mate, I'll keep rom aur 1.5 in mind as a workaround. Would love to hear if anyone's tested it with the stock ROM.
no it does not. I have the latest B185 update and it's the same error you mentioned. I contacted both Huawei and Nova Launcher developers, they are pointing finger to each other each blaming the other party.
I'm using an app to speed dial.
My unlocked (Att) note29 ultra recently updated and ever since the update, whenever I press "close all" in the task changer, it returns to Samsung OneUI launcher instead of Nova. I have to hit Home to return to Nova. Anybody else seeing this?

Yes, I also has this annoying issue.
I noticed, this behavior, since updating to Android 11, a few weeks back. Trying to figure out if it's a Samsung issue or Nova launcher issue..?
I have a Note 20 Ultra 5 G.... stock no issues.
Android 11, Nova Prime launcher.
I see that you say you have a "Note 29" .. (chuckle) ?
It surely........must be a typo ....?
Good luck.
are using nova 6.2.18 ? I'm using Nova 7. 17 beta and issue is not there

Yes thanks .
Good to know ,
My daily driver Note20 Ultra 5G, on official Nova Prime, version 6.2.18.
So it seems like a Nova issue.
My old Note 8 is on a beta version, Nova 7.0.. ? ..and yes, does not have this issue, but then Note 8 is not on Android 11..!
Good luck.
