Transfer data from old Android to oneplus 8? - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

Should I use oneplus Switch or Google backup/restore to transfer data from LG v30 to oneplus 8? Not sure if any method is better. Thanks.

I found OnePlus switch pretty convient, but you can use both by restoring first with Google and then with OnePlus switch (plus in the app you can choose what to restore, not in the Google option)

I assume that Oneplus switch will transfer App data as well, correct?

You can choose not to, but yes it can. That's why I suggested you go first with G-Drive and then OnePlus Switch to complete what Google drive didn't restored.
Here's everything you can do with OP switch:

Do both. Better safe than sorry I always say. Happy modding!

Yes, I backed up on MIUI and restored from Pixel Experience while I was encrypted. Even though most apps and data were restored properly, it failed with a few apps (I don't remember their names).
Mine says nothing to restore after flash. Anyone with a fix?

Hi folks.
I did only backup the parameters as suggested by the app, but what a pitty....
The main file only weight 468 Bytes (attachement)
This method is clearly unrelialable. As it doesn't backup my whole parameters.
TitaniumBackup appears to be my last shot, but I still have to determine what to backup...

Hahahahahaha, really !
It really made me laugh as TitaniumBackup was my first paid application and indeed the most important app through years now.
But as I like some challenges, Im going to try it, not because I Doubt about TitaniumBackup supremacy, but by curiosity.

You won't be disappointed. I freeze apps with icebox. Swift backs up more than just apps.
Of course, it's individual choice but I rely on OP Switch as my backup solution. I was a big fan for TB during my rooted days. With excellent Oxygen OS and OP Switch, I have no desire to root the phone anymore.
I haven't used Swift Backup app, but it might be worth the try. It's available on play store.

It requires root so it's not something you would like. Stick with what works for you. I always have to root my phones lol

I can't understand, how to dont have any root Desire in 2020.
Just, how do you handle bloatware or ads (web, app...)?

There aren't many apps on Oxygen OS that I consider bloatware. I use most of them. If I don't use a particular app, I simply disable it. If it still bothers me there are many guides online to debloat using adb commands.
I use paid version of AdGuard and have no issues with blocking ads. One license fee covers all 3 phones in my family.

Google Pay Backup&Restore with Rom backup

Hello everyone, hope I will find the answers as I properly did my research and did not find as much info as i wanted.
So, long short story, 2 devices, Pixel 3, bot with root access and custom roms, my question is: Can I backup entirely one rom from another (containing the google pay and google apps) and restore it on the other device, will cards work? From my knowledge, for example, some data is encrypter/stored in some places or some way that an app like Titanium Backup would not restore it totally so, would a total backup and restore from one phone to another work?
Thanks!

Definitely not possible with Titanium Backup. TB has not been updated since 2019, and restore on recent Android versions does not work properly. I use Swift Backup, and have used it to move apps from one phone to another (the phones both had the same ROM). You might have problems if you have different ROMs on the two phones. I don't use Google Pay, so can't comment on it. I didn't have a problem with the apps I did restore.
Update: it works using twrp (backup and restore only /data)

What Android version are you on? I thought TWRP did not work on Pixel 3 Android 11. If you have TWRP that works on 11, where can I get it?

Question Question-Help || Backup phone to pc for downgrade

Hello all!
Hope that's the right place to post that question
i want to downgrade my phone from android 12 to android 11 (Asus rog phone 5) because it's very unstable.
i read on the google site that the google auto-backup doesn't support downgrading, so i need a recommendation for software from someone who downgraded his/her phone to a lower version and managed to restore it later on.
Also is this process dangerous? I read the manuals on Asus official site which just talks about backup the phone, then downloading some file from the site restarting the phone and it should install it alone.
Thanks in advance for helping!

As a thumb rule, it is always risky to restore a backup of settings between versions, especially when downgrading.

If I were you, I would not backup anything and install everything manually and configure. Whatever you do, please do not back up Android 12's settings and restore them in Android 11.
Third party apps can be backed up using Titanium Backup or some similar backup tools. While restoring them, go by one app at a time so that you will know which app's backup caused issues and you can avoid restoring that app the next time.

Do a manual backup of all your personal stuff. Downgrade (A12 > A11 is really an 'upgrade' ). Then do a clean A11 setup and transfer your files over. Old school but the most solid way...

i guess i will make a combination to both
backup some apps with titanium backup (other will be downloaded normally after downgrade)
backup files from files manager through local backup connected to pc
will not backup any setting (maybe will screenshot to restore them manually)
will disconnect google from the phone
download the android 12 to android 11 from the asus site
and hope that anything that was ****ed will be normal again.
will let you know later how it went.
thanks guys.

Any recommendation for backup app for applications that doesn't require root?
If you mean that you are unrooted, then the options are limited. Certain backups require root. ADB backup & restore can also be used.
You can check up this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/need-recommendation-for-a-backup-restore-app-no-root.4401711/ and search in Google.

Please explain what is adb backup? Is that an app or a method?
Can't find a correct reference to said name
Also, does that back up app data? Is this works for downgrading?

It is a method to backup and restore using adb commands. It is partially explained in the link that I provided. You can also google adb commands to learn further.
Hi!
I just noticed that there is an official way to do this. Look for the 'Version Android 12 to Android 11' on the official asus page:
- https://www.asus.com/supportonly/ROG Phone 5 (ZS673KS)/HelpDesk_Download/
I found it while looking for an update. But also I look around here at xda to see if there is something relevant on the ROG 5.
Hope it helps

But doing that will still require me to backup my apps which is my current problem

Question How do I migrate to this device?

Time to retire my trusty LG G8. LG's mobile switch app has had me seamlessly moving from the last 3-4 LG phones i've had previously. Not gonna work this time. Unless I'm using it wrong, the Samsung Smart Switch isnt moving app data, neither is adb backup + restore (did move my wallpaper tho, so thats a plus) even tried the paid version of wondershare mobiletranspro to no avail. Neither device is rooted.
So my question, can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong with the methods I mentioned above? Is there a different tool I should be using? Or am I SOL?

adb backup was started to be fazed out in android 10 its now removed from almost all versions of android 12, is your lg rooted ?you could back up with titanium or other app, and restore to a rooted s22 , the only other option which is less reliable is what google replaced adb back up with, google drive/one backup, and restore that way, you could also try using app2sd on your lg and backing up your data to it that way and trying to restore it that way,
when using smart switch did you try backing up data to external sd and restoring from ext sd ?
What app data do need migrated? Can you use each apps bult in backups, if they have it, like whatsup
smart switch only gives the option to use a cable or wireless, no SD card, even on the LG. neither device is rooted, but im wondering if i could take LG backup of the G8, root both phones, restore data to G8 via the LG app, then use the tools available to rooted phones to move it all over. seems overly complicated, but i dont know if theres a better option

oh yes sorry, its samsung backup that gives the ext option
titanium backup would be your best bet (or similar) if your willing to root both devices, and set tb back up to back up to the cloud and dl to s22 ultra to save messing with cables and youll also have it safe on the cloud
I recently retired my LG G7. All of the data was backed up to my PC. When setting up my Ultra I installed the apps from the Play store. I then transfer images, audio etc. from the PC to the phone.
It's the only way to do it if you want to avoid issues. Clean installs are the best installs.

I connect the old phone to my PC and copy all of the files to a new folder.
Then I connect the new phone to the PC and transfer my files over to the appropriate folders in the phone. Basically cut and paste.
LG also lets you backup files to to the micro SD from settings. Then you can plug that into the PC and grab them from there.
