P20 PR0 Rollback EMUI with HiSuite - Huawei P20 Questions & Answers

Not sure if it's been posted before but thought i'd share the email i received today in regards to EMUI roll backs.
You can roll back to earlier versions of EMUI software, but you have to roll back one version at a time.
Here are the instructions for rolling back software:
[Rollback Guideline] EMUI 9.1 (Android 9) Rollback to EMUI 9.0 (Android 9) Operation Instruction
EMUI 9.1 (Android 9) can now be rolled back to the official version of EMUI 9.0 (Android 9) using HiSuite, without downloading any intermediate packages. To ensure that the rollback succeeds, read the instructions carefully and perform the steps as instructed.
1. The following are precautions for roll-back.
a. Rolling back to an earlier version will erase all data on your device. Use an SD card, computer, or Cloud storage to back up all important data before rolling back your phone, and make sure all backed up content is complete and effective.
b. Use a computer running a Windows operating system to visit http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/index.html and download the latest version of HiSuite. If HiSuite is installed on your computer, click the version number in the lower left corner of the page to check if it is the latest version. Make sure HiSuite version is 9.1.0.303 _OVE or above.
c. Before rolling back the phone, make sure your phone has not been upgraded using non-official updates. Otherwise, the roll-back may fail and unknown issues may be introduced. If you have used non-official packages to upgrade your phone, it is recommended that you go to an after-sales service center to roll back your phone.
d. Before rolling back your phone, make sure that your phone system has not been unlocked or rooted. If the system has been unlocked or rooted, it is recommended that you go to an after-sales service center to roll back your phone.
e. Before the roll-back, restore the phone to factory settings to make sure there is enough storage space.
f. Make sure the battery level is more than 50%.

I was able to roll back from 9.1 to 9.0 to 8.1 using HiSuite

Updating from MM with root+xposed to N with root+xposed without data loss

Hey everyone.
I've stayed on Marshmallow since I got this phone, but now that Oreo has started rolling out on various devices, and Xposed is available for Nougat (I can't live without MinMinGuard anymore), I figured it's time for an upgrade to (stock) Nougat. I'm currently on EMUI 4.1, Android 6.0, version FRD-L09C432B131. Can I update to B403 without losing my data and access to root and Xposed? B403 is the highest version approved for installation for my device that I found through the Firmware Finder for Huawei app.
Googling on this issue hasn't left me much wiser; Can I just flash my stock recovery and boot partitions to enable the upgrade process, download and update through the firmware finder app, reflash newest twrp and then reflash supersu and xposed from twrp once on 7.0, all without losing my apps and data? I've used this phone as my daily driver for nearly two years, and I would like to avoid having to set it up from scratch as much as possible, as that's a pain-in-the-ass process that'll take me ages.
Anyone have any experience doing this? Any input is appreciated!

You have root you will loose that , you need to flash it stock b131 as you have and go to hisuit i download the next version , after once updated go firmware finder and update new one update like c432b380 and next update is 382 you download it with FF and update and second is 391 you download id with FF and keep doing that until you reach the b403 i did that on my c432.

Another device stuck on FRD-L09C432B394

First of all, sorry for both repeating the topic, and for my ignorance!
I have an Honor 8 which is stuck on FRD-L09C432B394 and Android security patch level: 5 August 2017. I have received at least 2 OTA updates since I purchased the device almost 2 years ago but not since September last year (2017)!
I’m in the UK, I did not do anything with the device since I purchased it, and using the latest HiSuite version (HiSuite 8.0.1.300_OVE), no updates available either!
I downloaded a ROM from // huawei - firmware com/ (Sorry, can’t post links!) which is holds the description:
Build: FRDL09C432B521 800521FRDL19C432B521 800521FRDL02C432B521 800521
Android: 8.x - Oreo
Emui: 8.0
Size: 1.38GB
When I unzip this file I only copied UPDATE.APP to dload on MicroSD card, when trying to update via *#*#2846579#*#*, it starts but then fails at 5%!
Now I did some research and it seems like there’s more files required to update, when I unzip the downloaded ROM I only get the following files though:
full_mainpkg.tag (1KB)
new_filecontext_system (27KB)
new_filecontext_vendor (49KB)
UPDATE.APP (2,920,857KB)
VERSION.mbn (1KB)
And one folder named META-INF containing a few files.
When I did some research it seems like the files required are:
1) update.zip
2) update_full_xxxx_yyyy.zip ("xxxx" and "yyyy" = depending from hardware model/region)
3) update_data_full_public.zip
Where do I get these from? Is it UPDATE.APP or update.zip?
What am I missing? And if anyone knows, why am I not getting the update via HiSuite?
Thank you in advance!

The only method to install Oreo without unlocking bootloader is to flash via HiSuite... Have you tried?

I'm not sure if you mean flash via HiSuite as in downloading the Oreo ROM then use HiSuite to install it? Or just use HiSuite to check for updates and let it install it?
I do have the latest version of HiSuite (8.0.1.300_OVE) installed. Checking for updates through the software says that I've got the latest official version

You Sir are a genius! :good::good:
I didn’t have the time to try it last week but I just did and miraculously your 2 Update.app files have worked and flashed my device to B399!
Immediately after I got an OTA update to B404! But stuck there unfortunately! No updates available OTA nor on HiSuite after B404! Also trying to instal B407 via dload keeps failing at 5% every time! I read in your thread saying you haven’t done anything to the B399 file? Just deleted ‘Other files’ and rezipped? It worked anyway! Would be great if you could advise me on how to do it for a B407 or B521! If not, you’re still a genius!
Stuck on B404 now! An upgrade from B394, but wouldn’t mind moving up the line a bit!

I’m not sure what do you mean? Do I need to expect a bit of patience to get B406/7? I don’t have any patience left, I've had enough with Huawei
I’ve downloaded about 6 different firmware files from B405 to B521, I always tried the FullOTA-MF files first, then OTA-MF, all keeps failing at 5% but I ALWAYS get the ‘Software install failed’ message at 5% every time I try the SD Card\dload\UPDATE.APP method Are the firmware files I’m downloading corrupt? Your files did work so I don't think it's anything to do with my phone, but your files are the only ones that worked! I can't get my head around it

You first have to check if installation of each firmware is approved using Firmware Finder app. If it says it's not approved, it will fail at 5%, so there is no point downloading them
For me on my L09-C432, 406 was approved but was not displayed in system update app, I had to use Firmware Finder proxy to send it to system update app. Then I got 407, and could update to Oreo using hisuite on PC.
This method will fail on newer versions, but if 406 is approved for you and not displayed in system update app you can try it.

That’s what’s frustrating me, all the firmware files I’ve downloaded are approved for my device Or so does Firmware Finder app says! Yet they all fail to install at 5%!
Proxy method doesn’t work on B404, or at least not working for me So nothing is working now
I’ve had enough with this phone, just to avoid smashing it into a wall next time it drives me crazy, I’m looking to get another phone, Xiaomi Mi A2 might be the one. Still looking though
Successful update
Frustrated as I was I decided to try one last time and I’m running Oreo now
Trick is to use the official Honor rollback package from Android 7.0 to Android 6.0 (B131 in UK), let it preform OTA update back to Android 7 (B380 if I remember correctly) then use Firmware Finder application's in-app proxy to let the phone do the update at this stage! And it worked!
It downloaded the ROM files then when download completed it said the package has changed and requested to download again! I downloaded that and it started installation! Everything went well during installation but at the end it said it has failed because it could not find the update package I thought it failed and restarted the device only to find it running Android 8 and EMUI 8! Full reset and all working flawlessly
HiSuite acknowledges the update and offers to rollback to B407 if you’re having problems! Please note that I was stuck on B394! So even rolling back would be an upgrade
I’ve tested different apps, NFC (I never use it for contactless payments though so can’t confirm that, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work) Also GPS and everything’s working just fine! Only issue is/was battery draining but that’s due to the auto launch in battery settings! I changed some of the application settings into manual launch and all great now!
Thank you for all those who helped :good: And hopefully this might help some of the frustrated Honor 8 users like myself! And hopefully won’t be stuck on B521 now!

Sorry for the possibly stupid question, but how did you find/apply the rollback package? Was it through firmware finder or is there some other way?

No such thing as stupid question! We all need to start somewhere
Finding the rollback package is via the official Honor support website for (Preferably) the country where you purchased your handset from. Or if it was EU, any EU country.
Rollback process will be executed by downloading and unzipping 2 files, the Honor 8_Rollback Package_FRD-L09_from Android 7.0 EMUI 5.0 to Android 6.0 EMUI 4.1_C900B300 (Around 75 MB in size) and the Honor 8_Firmware_FRD-L09_Android 6.0_EMUI 4.1_CXYZB131 (Around 1.75GB in size).
Next you should have a MicroSD Card installed, formatted, and create a folder on root called dload.
Then Unzip the files you downloaded, will get you 2 Update.app files, copy the first one (From C900B300) to the dload folder, switch phone off, press Volume-, Volume+ and the Power button and don’t let go till system starts updating, this one won’t take long.
When finished, format you MicroSD Card, create dload folder again, then copy the second Update.app file (From CXYZB131) into the folder, same button combination to update. This update will take longer.
When finished, try Firmware Finder app immediately if you can and use the in-app proxy method to let your phone do the update, if it didn't work, let the phone do OTA update but don’t let it update too many times because Firmware Finder doesn’t work with newer System Update apps.
Hope that helps. And good luck :good:

Thanks for the post, finally got some time where I could try this out and i'm now upgraded to 8.0 from the B394 I was previously stuck on.
I noticed a huge lag when first running 8.0 but it seems to have settled.
For me everything seems to be running just fine, all my apps works, all hardware works and, as far as I can see in 0.5 days use the phone runs it all about as good as it did on 7.0 after the initial lag that is

The fingerprint scanner was a bit of a hit and miss for me when I first updated but it wasn't bad enough to mention, and it has settled now! Other than that, still running smoothly

Having trouble upgrading your phone?

I almost resorted to unlocking the bootloader of my Huawei Mate 9
So my friend and I swapped phone. I gave him my Huawei P9 and he gave me his Mate 9. The unit's stuck on EMUI 5 / Android 7. I know that later updates have been around for quite some time now. First, I tried searching for updates through the system updater-- didn't work. I flashed firmware through "dload method" which also failed miserably. Then I read that you can "force" an update thru TWRP. As a preparation, I downloaded HiSuite to backup some data on my PC. I sh*t you not, the app immediately detected an update. The app allowed me to update the phone (a series of updates though) to the latest version. So if you're facing the same predicament, try this out.
Download HiSuite for PC, install, connect your Huawei phone, and the application will then guide you on how to set things up. On successful connection, an option (HiSuite on PC) may detect an update for your phone. The app will download the update and install it on your phone. You may choose not to update too.
Tried same. Nadda. Still stuck on Android 7 and Emu 5

Rollback Android 10 to 9

My phone is running android 10 v2.5, i was updated from v.1.8
I want to return android 9, if i flashed to EDL 1.6 backup then all sensors down.
A also tried rollback SD Card option (on this page https://www.ztedevices.com/de/supports/a2020g-proopen-market/), starts update normally but after a little progress update failed. I think my phone never been updated to v1.9, because didnt find it. I searched the internet and forum, is there 1.9 version package i didn't find. How i return to android 9 with sensors working, anyone help.
I figured out the problem, i always tried update process (to downgrade from 2.5 to 1.9) in recovery, but i learned that this is wrong. Downgrade process have to run inside phone system updates. To fix sensor problem on my phone, i followed this steps;
1) First lock bootloader again via fastboot "fastboot flashing lock" command (i think this is only works android 9, my sensors still down)
2) Update to Android 10 via SD card method (my sensors working again)
3) Downloaded the rollback package (2.5 to 1.9 or what you want) and unzip it to root directory in SD card as update.zip,
4) Go to Settings -> System -> System Update, then you will now see the downgrade option, then start the process,
After this steps my phone starts on android 9 and all sensors (brighness, proximity etc) working again.

Hi there, my phone A2020G, i download Roms from this page,

Can't update firmware after installing GSM

To install GSM I downgraded my P40 lite from Emui 10.0.1.236 all way down to Emui 10.0.1.108 using Firmware Finder, Hisuite proxy and Hisuite Itself.
Now after installing google, I want to update the phone to 10.0.1.236 again, but it says that the older version is the newest in the updates menu. I tried to reinstall Hisuite, tried to update with the Hisuite proxy and Firmware Finder and with builtin updater in the phone. But still... I can't update my system.
If someone knows some way to reactivate the updates on the phone please reply to this thread
Hi.
Was in the same situation. Tried multiple old firmwares with hisuite proxy, and they downloaded and worked just fine, but couldn't upgrade from them.
Finally found a suggestion on a German forum that worked.
Using the OTG software install method, download a firmware from easy-firmware(dot)com and install that. Be very careful what software you donwnload as you could brick your device.
This worked for me, installed version 144 for my P40 Pro Plus, got immediately a software update notification to 156. Delayed that, done the GMS install, restarted, updated to 156, and then, because I was in thebeta, updated to EMUI 11. All good.
Please be aware that the site is requiring money for the downloads, and that I am in no way affliated with them. It's your own decision what to do

Did you ever figure it out? My p40 lite is doing the same thing on 10.0.1.108 as well
OTG install a complete firmware. There is no other way.
Working perfectly ever since I wrote the previous post, upgraded from the Emui11 beta to the final without issues.

Will this remove the Googlefier install ?
Yeah, you have to completely reset and erase the phone, flash the oldest firmware you can find through OTG, then after booting stop the automatic updates from settings.
Then apply Googlefier and after everything is working fine, only then update.
I had a hard time finding the firmware files for OTG, maybe you're luckier.
So basically, I have 10.0.1.108 installed currently with Googlefier installed.. I'm not able to update the emui via hisuite/proxy, fails the install. So then I need to do OTG install of a fullota emui and then reinstall Googlefier? I guess anything newer than .108 should be ok?
Yes, but be careful, try picking an older software, or you won't be able to use Googlefier. It fails with the latest updates, so your best bet is install it on an older one and then update.
A reinstall of your version 108 or something a bit newer should work.
