All of a sudden now to turn off the one plus 8 you can't just hold the power button you have to hold vol+ and power button.
I only had to go to Settings>Buttons & gestures to make the necessary changes.

Ya there's a way to turn it off to regular power off but it seems Google wants to whore out their pos assistant and probably paid OP to put it there

At least Google Assistant can still be disabled. I used it a couple of times and then realized it's not worth the battery drain.

Hold volume down and power down...bottom buttons will flash 7 times...then release power button but keep holding volume down. That should get you there.

Why even take the time to respond when your answer is going to be this......
Edit ... to OP ... you're doing it wrong... wait 1 min after power down, hold vol down for 5 sec, then hold power together with vol down.

I don't believe you have to wait...What I do is reboot/power on while holding vol down the ENTIRE TIME until I get to the bootloader. I've found that releasing vol down too soon will just lead to a normal boot.

No I completely agree. I've jumped the gun personally on a shutdown a couple times and ended up just rebooting tho, so if this guy is still (which I hope and seriously doubt) trying to get to his BL, then may be the issue.. who knows.
Does anyone know how to get the power menu up without the power button?
because my power button broke
but on a few occasion when i sweep to sleep, the power menu with pop up, i don't know how i did it?
I'm sick on pulling out my case, then pulling out the battery over and over again when i need to reboot

Hi,
4EXT has a power off menu.
Also,Quick Boot from the market.
Do you just have to be really careful not to turn the phone off?
I mean if it turns off can you get it back on at all?
Just curious in case I'm ever faced with this scenario.

This guy knows what he's talking about :highfive:
If your phone has something like LeeDroid or PkMn tweaks, you might be able to use long-press search to bring up the power menu.

Hi, recently, my siblings were playing with the tablet, I didn't know what happened to it, but then my brother showed it to me and the power button seems to work, but it won't turn the screen on, and the big volume button is sticky, both doesn't work, I'm guessing they spilled juice in it or something. So is there anyway to fix this?

Open it up and clean it out? No I have no idea if you can still unlock the screen then you should be mostly Ok. The power button is important

If the screen turns off, I have to plug in the charger so it turns on.

So I have had my S4 for about 2 and a half years and was looking to upgrade to the Note 5. However there have been plenty of times I have fixed a frozen phone (or when I accidentally hit the OTA update) by removing the battery. How does one fix a freeze on these phones with no removable battery? Just have to wait till it runs out of juice? that could take awhile if it isn't using much CPU on the Note 5.

There have been times with my S4 that it has frozen such that the power button is unresponsive. It is in situations like that that I am talking about.
I've never had a situation where a combination of home, power, and one of the volume buttons doesn't turn the off the phone. Never ever had to remove the battery on any device but a Blackberry.

The s4 was designed to remove the battert, any phone with out will reboot with a power button and volume button combo

Volume + power button
Coming from the S5, what are the implications of not being able to remove battery to reboot when phone gets stuck while flashing ROMs etc. What is the solution now with s6/s7?
I'm wondering about this, too. I suppose flashing with the battery almost empty & plugged into a low powered charger while flashing would allow for the battery to fully drain after unplugging it? Every phone I've owned had removable battery, so I don't know what to expect.
Holding the power+volume down simulates a battery pull
Holding down the power button for 10 seconds should shut it off too.

I do NOT suggest this at ALL! A dead battery while firmware up/downgrading can be quite problematic, to say the least.

This generally doesn't work with the newer Samsung devices, like S6/Note 5. But volume down and power button does every time as someone already mentioned.
Volume down+power like others have mentioned. Works every time. I found that at times I had to hold the home button as well.

Not if the phone is already powered up it won't. That's as if it's off when you hit that combination.
