As you know, this phone is tall enough to have a mean jump shot. Is one-hand mode use possible? Meaning similar to how Samsung shrinks the screen or how iPhone changes it's reachability. Is this possible with an app or am I missing it somewhere in the settings menu? I have the Verizon Op8 5G UW. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I am looking for this somewhat. I can't recall if included in Note 5 or if it was a 3rd party app. What it did was enable a mouse cursor when needed. The control for cursor was at the bottom while you control the cursor up too.
I tried one app that does that but it didn't work.

Hello,
Does anyone have suggestions for what they feel is the best settings to have a good note taking experience on the note 10.1?
Much appreciation!
What I do with LectureNotes is:
- enable GMD Gesture Control, Hide Status bar command
- Use spen button button for eraser
- pen toolbox enabled for easy color change
These 3 for me are the essentials
Thank you! Especially the eraser part. Anymore suggestions are very welcome.

Where is the gmd gesture control?

@gophy: I guess you have enabled `use stylus (hardware detection)´, haven't you? Most users enable `allow two fingers scrolling´, `allow two fingers zooming´, and `allow double-click zooming´ (some also `allow one finger scrolling´) in the app's input settings. If you observe jagged writing, try to enable the pressure filter with a threshold of 5% or. The other options are mainly a matter of taste.
Does anyone have a settings recommendation for Ruled Pattern and font size?
I keep fiddling with both and at some point down the page(s) my typed text goes below the ruled lines
Thanks in advance!
@Chaz9999: There is no general answer to your question, as the distance between baselines in the text layer is not fixed but can vary due to smaller/larger font size, subscript and superscript, etc.

Thanks for the response Acadoid!
maybe you should also increse the threshold value in the input filter settings.

My spen button isn't working, when click it, nothing happens. Do I have to enable it somehow?
@Calculating Infinity: You need to enable `use stylus button´ in the app's input setting, the function can be assigned in the `stylus button setup´ in the app's handling settings.
Note that Samsung devices do not deliver touch events with stylus button pressed, the system assigns own functionality to that. You need to enable `detect stylus button in hover mode´ in the stylus button setup in the app's handling settings; furthermore, you need to press and release(!) the stylus button close to the display surface but before actually touching the display.
You can now use your finger as erasing tool. Very useful. Just disable one-finger scrolling and enable one-finger erase.
I still feel like I don't have enough writing room. Is there anyway to make it switch to a new page automatically?

Yes. Click
Settings → Input → Use stylus buttons
Then you can configure your button. Therefore click
Settings → Handling → Setup Stylus buttons
You're welcome

@gophy: Automatically in which sense? Several of the scroll mechanism (page forward icon, volume keys, mouse wheel) automatically add new pages when needed, also the auto-movement tool or the input zone.
As the title suggests, is it possible to flip the task bar so that the time is on the left and the function keys are on the right?
The reason I ask is I use my tablet everyday for note taking in university and I am constantly getting thrown to my home screen! This is infuriating because being a south paw, my wrist is constantly covering these function keys and I cannot avoid pressing them when I write...especially if I am trying to get something down fast as the lecturer is steaming through the subject.
My N8010 is rooted with darkman's deodexed rom...I have tried using gmd gesture control to simply hide the task bar when s note/lecture notes is open, but I didn't like that I could not see the time or notifications during my lecture I would much prefer it (if possible) the other way around.
So is there a way to do it? And if so how would I go about doing this?
Thank you in advanced
What about turning off the rotation and flipping it upside down?
Lol

What I watch a video and want to know the time im used to swipe from the top down. This works with phone in portrait en langscape with edge down. I like the edge up with video's bit then how to access the status bar?
You can't.
I hate that we can't. I also like the edge side up when watching videos. It's just more comfortable to hold.

I agree. I spent some time trying to figure out a way to make a shortcut to pull down the notification menu so that I wouldn't have to use the normal "pull down" method. Couldn't find anything.
It feels natural for me to hold the edge up.
I use Next laucher with a swipe down gesture to access the notification panel.

That works regardless of the app you are in?
Thought I stumbled across a fix. Our very own @xodAslan navigation app for the edge panel has a notification panel button but it doesn't work with the edge screen up.

It works with the edge panel down though. Seems like we have to undo something Samsung coded in.
Hopefully Essential takes some user feedback as far as features we would like to see going forward. If you post please try to keep it to reasonable features that mostly stock devices have or non os software tweaks.
The two big ones for me are
1. Night mode
2. Fingerprint shortcuts, primarily for notifications

+1
Damn just checked and realized no night mode since got the phone just today.
+1 on night mode, that thing is must have at system level. Don't want to go back to using apps like twilight etc
My needs are simple. Would like the option to rearrange navigation buttons, battery percentage, and finger print gestures.

Has anyone tried enabling night mode by enabling the UI tuner?. night mode is built into nougat but on some phones still has to be turned on. I don't have the phone yet to do it. Pull down the notification shade twice and then long press the settings cog icon. A wrench will show up next to the icon indicating that UI tuner has been enabled. Next install "night mode enabler" from the play store.
Unlocked bootloader, TWRP and root. Hopefully. ? - Not sure any devs are on board with this device.
I haven't received the phone yet, but does it support gestures while the screen is off? Such as double tap to wake, swipe up to unlock, etc.
Night mode is nice. I also like to separate ring volume from notification volume. I know that's not native to Android, but a simple mod makes all the difference for me.

Night mode for sure. Second would be system level to force apps to use the full screen, like what Samsung has for the s8+

Yep.
I'm waiting for TWRP.
For root, I plan to use Magisk to root and hide BL status. Since it's mostly ASOP, it should work like the Nexus 6P I have.
First off +1 to both, I really don't want to use the app that allows finger gestures, was a little sad to see it not available in stock Android since I got used to using it on the Pixel XL.

Just tried it and it isn't there sadly. Just like the fingerprint gestures I don't want to have to add it through an app.
On the flip side I got exactly what I deserved/wanted. Nothing but pure Android (minus the Essential Cam app and the Essential option in the settings) so that was good but in a way I want to kick myself because I forgot that these two features were add ons to the skin for the Pixel devices. Whatever the case maybe, I'll get over it lol.

Hopefully those features, switching navigation buttons and more will come to the table once we get the bootloader unlocked and the possibility of custom ROM's/mods. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Use this to change nav bar.
For battery percentage just enable the UI tuner
1. Changing audio track with volume buttons when screen is off.
2. Resizing nav bar height
3. Double tap to wake
I second the fingerprint gestures and double tap to wake wholeheartedly.
Would also love to see these:
1. Ability to use Light Flow or another LED manager to customize notification LEDs. This is my favorite thing about Android phones and Essential's stock LED patterns aren't cutting it for me. Somehow they managed to make it impossible for the LED to flash more than once every 5 seconds.
2. Ability to use 360 camera attachment as a fisheye lens. Currently the camera stitches two 210 images together to form a 360 photo. I want to be able to choose just one lens to capture an image.

The battery percentage option is in the system ui tuner I believe. Pull down the notification shade and long press on the settings icon then go into settings and look for it.
ability to change navbar height. it's too big uses unnecessary screen estate
There are several Improvements I would like to see in the phones software. More so just general optimization. However I think that most of these answers of what features are coming will be answered in Thursday's Q&A session with Andy Rubin on Reddit. So I guess we should wait until then to see where Essential and the ph1 is headed.
Is there a way to get the Backbutton to the right side under Android Q? Custom Navbar App dosnt work and the Tut from XDA about the ADB Comands either.
hi, I'd also like to know if there is a way to get it back on the right side.
I actually use the full gesture mode, but there is something that I would like to change :
When you open the keyboard, the button to close it is also on the left side, is there a way to get it on the right ?(probably something to do with the navbar position of the buttons)
Cheers
I've mostly adjusted to this new layout after coming from a Note 9, but I definitely miss the massive customization Sammy offered via the Good Lock app. Interested in hearing the recommended way to achieve a similar level of tweaking in vanilla Android.
I tried digging through the settings activities to see if it was in a hidden menu somewhere, but couldn't find anything. I did discover that if I freeze Pixel Launcher, I lose the System Navigation entry in the System > Gestures menu, and the app switch button stops working. Maybe the Pixel Launcher has some way of controlling the order of the buttons? Though, if it does, it's not in any of the settings.
