Improvements Wanted for Camera App - Huawei Mate 30 Pro Questions & Answers

I would like to make a list of wanted features to take more advantage of this camera's
potential (I assume there is no app better than the pre-installed camera app, right?).
For one, I'd like to be able to use 7680 fps with a delayed capture (e.g., it waits for 10
seconds before directly taking the shot or before waiting for motion-activation). For
two, I'd like to be able to save a bigger 7680 fps file for more detail (the normal 15MB
HEVC files have some choppiness which I believe can be eliminated). Is there any way
to do either of these things now?
For the record, for developers, Huawei does provide the CameraKit (currently version
1.0.2, which unfortunately does not allow 7680 fps programming, but I'm told version
1.1.1 will be released later this month and allow for the "delayed capture" feature):
https://developer.huawei.com/consumer/en/doc/development/Media-Library/3180106
I'm hoping Huawei might also quickly improve their camera app if they get some clear
list of improvements wanted, so feel free to comment on my two points or to add more.

#3: Time-lapse should let the display turn off (to save battery life and reduce screen burn-in).
See my other post where I doubted myself...since nobody corrected me, I assume this problem
is real.

[App Idea/Request] GPS Video Overlay / Data Logger

Hey, might be a very limited market, but I was wondering if anyone knew, or could code an app that overlays the video camera (or is its own video camera) with GPS information.
In theory it shouldn't be too hard to do, poll the GPS for speed, the compass for direction and stick them at the bottom of a video overlay along with the system date and time on top of the camera, then record the total image/video to the SD card.
I got thinking about this after picking up my car dock and having a play around with it (inadvertently managing to record a drivers eye view of my journey home!). It would be a great app for trackdays etc, you could even output the GPS NMEA data to a KMZ file and import it into google earth, or given some fine tuning make it into a very basic GPS data logger...
Anyways, thinking out loud here If anyone can do it let me know, I can code basic stuff, but something like that is way out of my league...
Cheers
Sounds like a nice application. To take it even further: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgXzdUb_fug I think this is an even greater use of camera + gps.
The only thing about making it into an augmented reality nav system is that it will still require mapping information, and the prob with that is that the free ones have pretty mad amounts of errors, and the paid ones need megabux spending (and they still have loads of errors).
With my idea, it's not an A/R system - it's simply a video overlay of info that's already in the phone. The major problem I see would be polling it, interpreting it, and writing it to the video at 30fps or whatever the unit captures at.
I do like that app tho, but it's not really what I envisaged with this
So you want to record a video similar to this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdAIaIOySoA for afterwards playback only? If so, I think this is possible only to store video + gps information in seperate files. The recorded video will be recorded as a normal video. The gps data can be stored using a kmz file with a sort of timestamp. Afterwards these 2 files can be played back with a application on the android device which reads these two files and overlays the video playback with the data from the kmz file.
I guess it will be to hard to create an application that records video and embeds the recorded gps data into the recorded video. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the android API can say something about this?
yep, got it in one... Although it would be for playback on the PC rather than on the phone.
The standard format is .3GPP, which is nice and small (comparitively speaking) and good quality too, and plays on a PC through Quicktime / VLC no problem.
I honestly think it would be perfectly doable... I just can't do it!!!
It sounds cool, but is it useful? Will anyone actually read the data/time/lat/long on the bottom of the screen during playback?
On top of that it will make the cpu work extra hard putting the text on every video frame.
Another idea is to use the timed-text stream (subtitles) in the mp4 file. (more)
Dont know how much work is involved.
It is a pretty specialist app, however I reckon people would use it for timing laps etc.
Look at how many in-car videos there are of trackdays on YouTube, and the ProVida system that is in use in the video above... there is a definite use for it imho - even if it's just used to show off people's VMAX on the autobahns etc!!
Must admit, I wouldn't see a point in the lat/long info - all I was guessing at was a simple overlay on the video with speed and direction bottom left, date & time bottom right so as not to distract from the actual video.
Hep hep hep
Don't put this idea underground (please). This app could be REALLY interesting for a bunch of freak I know (I'm one of them too :-D)
I'm in a very big forum of EV and there, such video is really really researched. The fact that it has to be processed afterward made by a separate soft is no problem...our main target is to upload a video with speed, altitude...etc for comparison or simple burning thing like "Yeah I've the freakiest e-bike..ever" X-)))
This is interesting for e-bike but also for EVERY (on the road, in the wood...etc) people which are searching performances and want to share them
Hope someone like the idea. If not I make a thread on the endless-sphere forum that the guys come "show their motiviation" here
Cheeeeers and do it ;-)
Grüß,
H.
A lot of people have been waiting for this for a long time, but I don't think its possible on android yet.
Lets hope it will be on 3.0.
A friend said that one guy will release a update to his track logging app, for the iphone 4 within a few days that will add this functionality.

[Q]Video Recording in Background??

This question has been asked but the ONLY reason i am asking it is because one of them is for car accident documentation and the other had no answer and was asked for an unknown reason. (i am a new user so i am unable to link to these two threads.):crying:
Well I know their are "Secret Video Recording' apps out their although the main reason for these seam to be use surreptitiously and my reason is something for something I don't want to hide and actually be able to check on it every once and a while.
Here is what i am talking about Being that i have the dock and the t300 has a rear facing camera i wish to utilize them both at the same time. Here is the scenario: I am in class attending a lecture and although i am a fast typist I cant capture things like slides or pictures in general for my notes. I wish to be able to Video Record the lecture while taking notes at the same time. Alas i have been unable to find software to do this. I have been told before that i should use a "secret" recorder and set up the shot first with my normal camera app. Although this does not let me 1.) go to the video intermittently and make sure what i want is still in frame, people move and sometimes the tablet does while i am taking notes all it takes is someone bumping me from the side or for someone in front of me to move and the rest of the video might as well be an audio recording . and 2.) stop recording easily when its not needed (breaks pauses during lectures and the random jokes or anecdotes some teachers like to tell) not having this ability i have to edit the video or deal with the extra content.
In all I am pretty sure you get my idea I wish i could create a mod to the camera app that lets me put the recording in the background and takes notes I am no DEV but to me it sounds easy although if it was i bet it would be available already.
THE most Possible BEST thing to add to this would also be able to have the option to monitor the recording in a small Samsung like super window but with a live feed not just playback so without having to change the entire screen i can quickly check its progress in a small window.
Sorry for the long post I am just wondering if this could be even possible I would pay for an app like this as currently the only way i can get video is by using two devices although the higher position of the tablet camera is ideal.
Thank you for reading this and I hope this sparks someones interest and possibly with the amount of people highly intelligent when it comes to these matters I know if it is possible someone or someones here can create it. Again that is if it is possible, personally i don't see why not but if i was that smart i wouldn't need to ask. I would just create the app.

Ideas for apps and software improvements

Like a lot of others here I have ideas about how things could be improved but have not the ability to do it myself. I f I were 30 years younger, maybe.
I share here two ideas, let us share yours. DEVs, use these ideas as you like.
1. There is not yet a usable STEGANOGRAPHY app, For windows you have STEGANO.NET, which lets you hide any kind of data (documents or even other pictures) in a picture. The UI is ok. Something like that does not exist for Android or iOS. Come on, tackle the NSA a bit.
2. My lenovo phone comes with a powersaver app, which allows to set the CPU to 0.8 (from 1.2) Nearly everything runs smooth enough at 0.8. But only nearly. To watch a movie I have to reset to 1.2.
My idea: a CPU clocker that can be preset , something like a whitelist.. (That may exist, if so, my excuses)

Software (ease of use, features, etc)

When you hand your phone to granny to take a photo of you, can she get the job done? Rate this thread to express how you deem the OnePlus 5's camera software. A higher rating indicates that the software is easy to use, fast, uncluttered, and inclusive of advanced features for when you need them.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Lack of battery saver customization
Poor Alert Slider option
Too restricted camera apps.
They should have included options like more camera modes, filters, option to switch to telephoto camera, more depth effect tuning option, some more video options like slower slow mo, higher resolution slow no video, eis on off toggle, manual option for saturation contrast brightness...
There are lots more
No dual apps very poor app locker very poor gallery app in terms of editing camera app in regular mode have no options no theme engine and no support for substratum no cloud storage.
Really oneplus what are u doing?
Miui is giving us all these options but a big gun like oneplus is not giving why?
All oneplus devices have greatest hardware of that time so why the are fearing to include such features whole very lower end devices support these.
Really disappointed.

I know this post is nearly a year old, but fortunately it has most of the features you mention are "missing" preinstalled.
Dual apps: use "Parallel Space" on play store if you really need it at all
Gallery app: Google Photos (which is awesome)
Editing: Google Snapseed (also awesome)
Substratum: Full support as it's almost stock Android, do some research. Also has native light or black themes.
Cloud storage: Google Drive.
Just in case new users are mislead ?

hmm,
all of these are workarounds, but still its better if some of these are built into oos itself,
and ya its a year old post and i m not an 'Noob' user anymore, i knows OOS is way better than miui, but still both these targets different audience so comparison will always be biased.
oos itself have improved a lot now , for some users its a selling point.

Question Scrolling Lag Test --> Found the perfect example, need testers:

To preface, I have the S22 Ultra 256Gb (Snapdragon) 12Gb of RAM, running the latest firmware. This is not an Exynos only issue, or an 8Gb RAM only issue, it's an EVERYONE issue.
Opening the link below in a browser doesn't show any lag. You need the official Reddit app from the PlayStore to test this unfortunately but it's the perfect example to demonstrate the massive scrolling lag that occurs with some apps.
Large Twitter timelines and some Reddit posts still have very clear scrolling lag, others I am sure notice it elsewhere. If Samsung can resolve this particular issue, I believe the majority of scrolling lag issues people face will also be solved.
From what I can see, many apps use a different rendering method? It's the number of large images that possibly cause the scrolling lag. So, a better method for how the phone loads or renders images is needed to solve this problem with whatever these apps continue to use.
Open this thread below in the OFFICIAL Reddit app and scroll through the main thread at normal scrolling speed, then go back to the top and scroll faster, then test scrolling slowly (the comments under the main thread do not lag).
PLEASE report back if you notice the scrolling lag, and more importantly if someone doesn't notice it with their phone:

I literally said that in the post. Do not test using browsers (because they clearly have different levels of optimizations to save power/data, etc that result in images not loading in their highest qualities while scrolling).
Also how is that not a problem if for a few years now (on multiple high-end Android devices) we've had extremely popular apps, not ones made by small time developers, use rendering methods that are both unoptimized on the APP side and clearly on Android side too (since these issues only began around the time of Android 10 and continued to get worse with time and future iterations).
If apps continue to use that subpar rendering methods or not optimize for scrolling fluidity, and these are apps that are amongst the most popular, then perhaps Samsung/ Other Android manufacturers / Google need to start optimizing on their end.
Because at the end of the day, the user experience here is being affected.

Then use it in the Browser and voila good experience. But i can understand you mate... A big forum like reddit should have an optimized app after all this years... They arent new to the game and it should be optimized for Such an big cpu like the 8gen 1 that is in various Devices...

Same applies for the Twitter app too sadly. In fact, it's worse, as 90% of Reddit threads don't have that many photos to lag. But Twitter depending on who one follows, a timeline could be filled with images and scroll stutter.
For reference, both these apps ran smoother on my Pixel 2 XL with zero lag issues by the way despite loading the same high-quality images during scroll.

Images not loading for you, look at the example below, which is how it should look and why the lag is caused. Same applies with Twitter scrolling and when lots of high-res images are in the timeline. It's very smooth when it's mostly text, or low-res images. Then it lags and stutters when high-res images start coming up.
Samsung/Google/Android have to start optimizing for when high-resolution image rendering or how it's done.

Not luck, your one is how it should look, with the high-resolution images. Which is what causes severe scrolling lag.
---
What I want to know more importantly is if there is ANYONE who is loading the official app with the images like the above and not having any lag/stutter.
Maybe people with custom ROMS or kernels can please test and let us know if it's the same for them?

I don't think this is a Samsung exclusive issue. I believe it began with Android 10 and has been getting worse since, not sure why.
I can test tomorrow with my brother's Oppo Find X2 Pro.

If that's true. Samsung really has to fix this horrible experience in apps.
By the way, as I've already stated. This has nothing to do with Exy vs Snapdragon.
I have a Snapdragon model with 256Gb storage and 12Gb ram and it's still happening.
I have a S22u SD 12/256 model, have never had any scrolling/studdering issues but keep seeing posts about it. I'm curious as to what setting your graphics driver is under Developer Options in setting? Looks like you can change that option for individual applications.
Apologies in advance if this has been already thrashed out...

I am very curious by this, so please do come back and let us know. No offence taken by the way.
I believe you can login to Reddit as anonymous or use it without creating an account at all. Can you please download it from the PlayStore, then come and open the reddit thread in original post at the top and test it scrolling? Check the video by @vlubosh above.
Developer settings on/off do not impact it, animation on/off does not impact it, graphics driver settings under developer setting on/off do not change it. Forcing GPU rendering under developer settings does not impact it. Doing tweaks to the build.prop do not impact it either.
The stutter lag has been there the whole time for me, with every firmware update too.
You could get lucky and in the apps you use you'll never notice it. But given for example Twitter and Reddit are my primary uses with the phone outside my work, then my entire experience, outside of amazing camera, has been horrible with this phone.

I first clicked on your link in the original post above which displayed the reddit web pages and everything scrolled smoothly. Tried it with 120 and then 60 hz refresh and no lag.
I then installed the reddit app and clicked on your link above and was able to get it displayed in the app. Didn't matter if I had 120 or 60hz screen refresh or how I had the setting for the graphics driver set, never had any lag.
