Sounds like you installed something you shouldn't, I've never seen this before with any browser. I'd do a factory reset to be safe backup all your data first.

It sounds like you have an app that is causing pop-ups on your phone. Do you remember installing any apps or games shortly before you started having the issue? I've had luck finding apps/games that generate pop-ups and weird notifications on my kids' phones using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appspot.swisscodemonkeys.detector
You'll just need to uninstall whichever app is causing the problem.
Probably a torch app
I had the same problem last year. It was a malware installed. I found it in Settings/Aplication/All Apps/ Show System App, at the end of the list I found one app without logo and description, if you will find it unistall it, if not you have to search with some apps o reset mobile. Sorry for my english.
It's Any Browser!
It's ANY browser I have interest in using?! - And Yes! Chrome Started it!? - Then I tried other Browsers. Still the same. When I open My Phone - expecting to see my homescreen, I instead get The Browsers interface with SearchLine?! That's stupid - and annoying as hell!? - If I would use a searchline I already have one on My Homescreen? I do not have any use of a browser-window opening and stealing the look of my start-screen on My OnePlus7 Pro? Agree?
But HOW to STOP this from happening?...?? hmmm
1) ..I haven't found a way?! And NO!? - Every attempt to find ANY malware, AD or the alike has failed.- My Phone seems CLEAN!?
2) NO "empty app" at the bottom of the APP-list, as also suggested on the Net...?!
3) Some instructions for dealing with the problem in Chrome as an example? Tells me to Tap on the "COG" in Chrome!? - But MY Chrome does NOT have a "COG" in the upper Right corner? So - again. Useless advice for ME!?
4) I REALLY have tried - searched .. experimented to get rid of that annoying Pop-UP, and Pop-Ups ARE Blocked in My Settings?! So!?? See????
That's Why I turn To You for a qualified Advice!?
5) ..and Yes!? Thank YOu! - I tried to download and use The AppBrain AD app!? - I'll see, if that helps? ;DD

Ok, I just got my Xoom. Some apps, like Pandora, dont close and dont have a option to. How do I close them?
And how do I close the windows that are open when I hit one of the bottom left keys?
sorry, im really new lol
There is no need to close applications in Android.
But if you really want to close a applcation, go to Settings > Applications > Running click on application you want to close and click Stop.
I came across in interesting article that shows why Android doesn't need a task killer which is in line with your question. So apparently the OS "knows" what apps need to stay in memory and which can be killed.
Good article. Also new to Android. Helps to understand how this all works.
I haven't been able to get Pandora to turn off either but that's the only app that I've had issues with. I can pause it, but the icon still reflects near the clock, which annoys me. I usually just kill it from within settings.
More often than not, you can just back out of the programs by hitting the left arrow a number of times. Otherwise just let HC deal with it accordingly, hit Home and move on. I'm learning it'll free up memory when it needs it.
I havent used pandora on the xoom, but on my epic theres an "exit" button in the menu

Cool. Thanks. I'll look for it.
I'm using the apk from some other tablet, cant remember which one it was. There's no exit that I've found yet on that version. I don't use it that often so its not a huge concern, just an annoyance.
Nice article... So Android make a kind of save state of the app and leaves its resources to the app in need... clever!
Saying that you dont need to close App's because Android "knows" is just redic. We all have task-manager's on Android why is Honeycomb different? Simply put it isn't and we just have no working solution currently. Why do I say this?
When I have several app's open you can tell the system slow's down. Why can I not close the App's I wont be continuously using?

You can. Put a shortcut on the homescreen to battery usage and close the that you're done with. There's really no need to close them anyways.

Hey guys, if you are ever having an issue with a certain app and need to force close it.
Hit the home button, go into the app tray, long press the app and drag it up to the (i), then from there click Force Stop
In this same vein, is there a way to keep an App from being automatically closed? For example, AOL Instant Messenger never seems to close but GTalk disappears after some inactivity.
Hi, Note 5 and S6 EDGE+ both have a problem. It defaults a program to the first app you select. I used to be able to click a number and android would as me to choose my VIOP or RC "just once" Now every things is set to "always"There used to be an option to only use it once. Is there any way I can fix this without rooting?
I would also like to know this too

It's weird for sure. Seems like only sharing from certain apps like the gallery and Internet browsers give this option. But this app helped: app picker classic. It's in the play store. It's not ideal but it's working for me. If you share and choose this app the first time it will add all your other options for each consecutive time.

Problem it most of the these kind of apps don't open or get all the apps you want.
I am working with the developer "better open with". He said there is a bug.
I don't think this is a bug but it's the way the new touch wiz was made.
I'm also wondering why they've removed this feature. And is there any way around it without root?

I swear I love Samsung but they do some of the dumbest sh!t. LG also removed that feature from some of their devices. What the heck are these manufacturers thinking? What on God's green earth makes them think that you want to handle one type of file the same way everytime? Sometimes I want to open a link with one browser and open another link with another browser because maybe that specific browser works better with that particular websites. I love the just once. Constant clearing defaults is fuking worst than selecting between just one and always.

I have this same problem on my S5 mini. PLEASE tell me there is a solution by now? This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. So I send something once to Opera mini because I need to save on data usage and now I am forever stuck with websites opening in Opera Mini and looking like terrible. On Kitkat I NEVER used to select "always" on anything, for choice and security reasons.. Now I cannot.

I have this but it is only for things programmed into the app. I cannot scan an NFC thing and it always come up do I want to use "Tag" or "NFC Reader" or "xyz". Because the app does not know about this "type". It's good to protect and provide choice for websites and images and things but it is not perfect. Why would samsung/google mess this up? Not only is it stupidly inconvenient but it is less secure because now something like a website or any other thing just goes on it's merry way automatically opening and executing with an app all the time, instead of the usual thing where I have the choice to press always, just this once or oh yeah just press the back button to cancel the attempt from the start.
I am not happy with the loss of this functionality.

One of the workarounds I found for sharing or opening links with different apps was to select "Copy to Clipboard" option when you select the default app for the first time after clearing your old defaults and then go to your target app and paste from clipboard. It's definitely not as straightforward as selecting "Always" vs "One time only" but still better than clearing out defaults after every use for me.
This is actually incredibly annoying. Sometimes I open Youtube videos in Youtube, sometimes I open them in my VLC Remote Control, sometimes I open them in Flyperlink....how this functionality went away is beyond me....frigging Samsung.
Better Open With will have to do for now, thanks for the link.
I am unable to remove annoying pop coming from any web browser I tried to install and use on my new Xperia Premium XZ including Chrome and Firefox. It looks like my phone gets DNS hijacked and randomly few times a day it pops this message - see attached screenshots.
I tried to Google solution, none I found worked including clearing data and cache of these apps, completely reinstalling them.
I tried premium Adware Malwarebytes and it does not detect anything wrong with the phone.
I also activated premium version of AVG but full scan has not discovered any issues.
At this point I ran out of options.
I can't believe there is no clear explanation anywhere about this so called Four Virus neither reference about it with respect to Oreo 8.0.0.
Am I the only Oreo user which has this issue?
Reseting my phone to factory defaults is last thing I would want but could do. Just trying to see other options before executing such drastic solution.
Any ideas are very appreciated.
Hi there
You caught a simple flu, but u probably need Safe Mode to remove it. Follow instructions here => https://forums.androidcentral.com/a...30081-guide-malware-adware-popup-removal.html
Good luck, and keep us posted,
Van
This is well-known problem, widely described on the Net. There's nothing wrong with your phone. There's no malware on the phone itself, which is why the anti-malware tools do not find anything.
What you see is a result of a server-side problem. Either the web page you were trying to visit got hijacked, or an ad provider that displays ads on that page got hijacked, or some DNS entry got hijacked. They used some kind of server-side exploit to redirect your browser to the above fake page. It is ordinary scareware, trying to scare you into purchasing a piece of software you don't really need (and it is useless crap anyway). If you were visiting a legitimate web site at the time this popup appeared, the site owners are most likely already aware of the problem. They will fix it shortly and the problem will go away.
At this time, just to make sure noting is cached on our phone after they fix the issue, a good idea might be to find your browser app in the app list and as Android to clear app data.
I am being driven crazy by random pop-adds even when no apps are open.
I contacted Samsung support and they told me apps can pop up add even when apps are closed, maybe their right but I have my doubts. They advised me to put my phone in "Safe Mode", but why should I be forced to do that?
I can't figure out why on a phone I paid close to $1k for and a service (Verizon) I pay almost $100 a month for that I keep being interrupted by pop up adds. I truly boggle my mind and they pop up when I'm trying to answer my phone, manage my calendar, text messages, etc.
There are adds for games, software, apps, services, you name it I get pop adds for it.
I can't even figure out who's generating them!
Is this happening to others?
What are the ads advertising?
Not happening on either of our Samsungs. Nope.
I'd boot to safe mode, and if you get a no show from there, at least you boot-up system is clean. Doubtful it will be in the startup. Then I'd go into my setup/applications, and go after shutting down any apps running, one by one. It's a PITA, but you will come across it. Wish I knew a more direct method/easier way.
Hopefully someone will come along with a more elegant, and simple method.

Yes your not the only one.
Generally speaking most of the third party apps that you download and install from playstore have adds in them ( free versions ).reading the app description usually down the bottom somewhere will tell you if it has adds. Paying for the apps usually gives some extra features and no adds. Web browsers are another issue to with adds showing up. It could be possible that your provider maybe feeding you adds(not sure about that though).
While safe mode will start your phone without the 3rd party apps it won't tell you which app is causing the the issue and you can't use those apps.
Closing apps may not help as they still tend to run in the background.
Being offline from the internet will help as well unless the apps have adds in the app itself.
Uninstalling apps and reinstalling one by one to find which one(s) have adds can be done but is rather time consuming.
About the only thing you can do to try and stop adds is to install an adblocker app it works for me.
Have a read of this thread for more info on adblocker apps hope it may help you out.

Yes, I'm familiar with the way the adds work and I often pay, since it's usually only a few dollars, to be rid of them, and it supports the developer. The odd thing is that this has only recently become a problem. It never happened with my S6, or with any of the phones I had before that.

I've changed my main browser from Opera to Kiwi but still retain Chrome for certain functions that I like on it but don't use it often because it's a battery killer. However, every day I have to reset my default because Chrome keeps on opening links even though it's not set as the default in settings. This morning was the most annoying as it now showed up as the default even though I didn't change anything. How and why is this happening and how can I prevent it reoccurring?

You haven't done what they told you too, it's normal the problem persists....
Although you don't use it, it might be causing some problems that you cannot anticipate.
Try the following:
-> go to acessibility settings and see if you have any of them "off" that should be "on"
-> go to the battery consuption ranking and enable the browsere that you like, disabling the others
-> go to default browser and change it to what you want

-I haven't done that because he's talking nonsense.
-Accessibility isn't relevant to this issue.
-Battery consumption isn't relevant as Chrome isn't there since I seldom use it.
-Default browser is set to Opera both within Opera and the phone menu but Chrome somehow changes to the default on its own.
I don't have this problem on any of my other devices. It can only be a bug with Funtouch.

If you work in the area you understand that sometimes unrelated pieces cause bugs and software problems that you can't anticipate...we are just trying to rule those out
Accessibility might be relevant if you have some app that has the permissions to change default launchers (such as NovaLauncher, etc) and might be able to re-default your browser app. Check it
Every app is on the background power saver definition until you choose otherwise. Just go there and check Opera and uncheck Chrome, try it ffs...
if you want some help don't just post reasons not to try it....try it and then report the results so we can help you further...if you knew the stupidities that I had to do in my NEX to get some softwares going wright (Button remapers, cursor controls, automate,...) you wouldn't be arguing that "that is stupid or unrelated"

I'll answer your last statement first.
-I'm using the international version so any hoops you jumped through on your Chinese version don't really apply to my phone.
-Chrome isn't in my background power saver since it's regarded as a system app. I've forced stoppand cleared data on it and stopped auto updates but it still rears it's head again.
- None of my current accessibility settings can do this, so that's ruled out.
I have most of my devices set up identically and have used similar setups on all my phones ranging from Asus to ZTE (A-Z), I've used a lot of phones with my default browser being Opera mostly. This started after the Pie update.
Whilst I appreciate the help, the other guy told me to uninstall Chrome when I explicitly said I don't want to get rid of it. So yeah, he was way off the mark.
Well I think I've found a workaround but it's not really a solution. I've kept Opera locked in recent apps and it defaults there now. This is despite Chrome still showing up as the default on it's own. Very strange behavior.
Thanks for the input but if anyone has a solution or explanation it would be much appreciated.
