I've read mixed reviews regarding the Moto G's camera, some say it's pretty good, others describe it as dire and has trouble focusing.
What are your experiences and have you tried any other camera apps? Can different software overcome the problems? And even add features, such as white balance settings? I use Pro Capture sometimes on my N5, simply because the standard camera app has a 16:9 viewfinder when it shoots 4:3 pictures and that annoys me no end...
My friend has just ordered this phone based on my recommendation (there is no other phone in her price range that I would even consider, frankly), and I want to make sure her experience is a great one! This will be her first ever smartphone.
Also, does the phone have any other minor niggles which I can resolve in advance for her, by changing settings or using different apps? I'm already considering installing Opera as her main browser rather than ram-hog Chrome.
Edit: This phone will not be rooted, I'm not opening that can of worms for her just yet, unless I'm asked.
Moto Camera app itself is pretty good with simplest settings, I wouldnt recommend using any other camera apps. It has both 16:9 and 4:3 viewfinder options. I didn't have any "focus" issue and might happen sometimes when there is hardly any lighting. Chrome actually works good in this phone but if she has no need for syncing desktop bookmarks and other things, stock aosp browser (can be installed from play store) works much faster than any other browser.

I love the AOSP browser but too many things quit working after Jellybean for me to continue using it. I miss AOSP browser every day though, not least of all text reflow and the speed. Dumping the ability to implement text reflow (not only in Chrome but also every app that relies on the Webview class, such as GMail) was a **** move by Google. Hate them for that.
Glad to hear that the camera is going to do ok with not much messing with settings, my friend really just needs a point and shoot that will capture stuff with minimum hassle. I'll see how she gets on with it then.
For me the camera sucks, i got some purple tint with flash in my pics :S

Is that not a fault? Thought about taking it back and exchanging it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Yup, that would def. be a major faulty worthy of free replacement or repair and even easy to prove.
Is it not annoying that the focus feature is not launched by default, and you have to go to the settings wheel every time that you want to take a picture with something in focus? This is another reason I'm thinking about installing a third party camera app for my friend, when the phone arrives.

Not enough RAM
The camera isn't that bad. I've had some good shots from it.
But the lack of RAM is the biggest issue for me, especially when using Chrome. When browsing I often see all other apps killed off, including music playback, which is very frustrating. Basically I cannot use Chrome and Google Play Music together for long.
Also, if I'm casting something to my Chromecast then using Chrome will often kill off the Chromecast notification in the status bar.
And it isn't just Chrome. Yesterday I had RunKeeper tracking a long walk with the family and when I tried using the camera to take some photos along the way it forced RunKeeper to close so I lost my route mapping.
1GB of RAM just isn't enough for me sadly and I am looking to switch to a different device. I am saving for either a Moto X or a Nexus 5.
I understand that problem well - my last phone before my N5 was a Galaxy S3, and the multitasking was abysmal. It was a lot better with an AOSP ROM though, and I was hoping that 1GB RAM on a nice clean (almost) stock build of Android would perform well enough for my friend. There really isn't much alternative in this price range to be fair. Sad to hear about Runkeeper, she's into running in a big way and that's almost certain to be one of the first apps she downloads...

It's an nice nippy device, beautiful screen. Just the camera seems to bu a lot of people.
If you update the camera app through the play store and use HDR then the pictures are good.
There seem to be some problems using the flash, but on mine I haven't had this problem. Though,
what I find using the flash is that it doesn't always(mostly) lite's up correctly. Leaving mostly
dark pictures. I am pretty sure with the correct software it would function just fine.
We should be able to activate the flash manually then start the camera. Could be done with an hack.
Someone on the net suggested to update to the correct radio if you have an custom rom and purple shine. Don't know if that is true. But it couldn't hurt to try.
In any case, not using HDR gives horrible pictures for sure. Check out the pictures thread
on the the moto g forum for examples there above acceptable. And check 'motorola' in the play store.
edit; you also can checkout CameraMX.
Camera issues resolved.
I had a bit trouble with camera but not anymore. You simply change the picture to 4:3 and most importantly control focus and exposure by yourself ( because in low light camera doesn't take good pics at all). You can keep HDR and flash on auto mode.
You can even try AOSP camera ( install it manually without flashing) but I would recommend to stick to stock camera.
Bad call quality(to low volume)
I don`t care about camera, or RAM, they are good enough for me. Bad low volume in earpiece, that **** is killing me. This is my best phone overall i owned, but sound quality(in call volume) is the worst. Does anyone alse also have that problem? I`m thinking about selling Moto G, just because of this issue.

Hi guys,
It's decision time for me and would like to ask for your help knowing that you got real-world experience with Mate 9.
Background: Using now Galaxy S7 and before it I use to root and flash custom roms and tweak kernels but got tired from all that jazz. Now I just really want a fast phone, with big screen, great camera with great battery life that just work. So I got great offer from my mobile operator on European model Mate 9 and start thinking about it, as S7 got a small screen (for my liking and usage) and not so loud speaker (no bluetooth audio capabilities in my commute vehicle and love listening to podcasts while commute).
Questions:
1. Is it really fast or faster comparing to Pixel and Oneplus 3T? As speed is very important for me. Other variants that I am contemplating Oneplus 3T (but camera is concern and not stereo speaker is a minus)...
2. Is the screen really usable/great under daylight?
3. Are the speakers really loud (comparing to Galaxy S6, S7, HTC 10, LG V10 - this phones I got a experience with)?
4. Does the camera got better through the updates and is it fast at launching and focusing?
5. No way to double-tap-to-wake?
6. Is factory screen protector any good?
7. Does it slow down during the month of usage for you?
8. Notifications issue on European Models absolutely and completely gone for all EU users?
9. Signal + wifi signal any good? GPS any good?
10. Is it possible to go back to full and unrooted official stock rom after root?
11. Any news on 5.1 coming soon?
12. Ability to control apps auto-starts and apps auto-starts at boot?
13. Is there a performance mode present?
14. Any bending, build quality issues?
15. Fingerprint gestures?
16. How is touch sensitivity and the latency?
17. Are EU updates massively delayed comparing to other regions?
Wow. A lot of question I got here, but if I got the phone eventually I will update this post with answer to every question of mine.
I did read a lot of reviews and watch a lot of video review, but I value real user experience here on XDA most, not some reviewer that is getting the phone for free to review and changing phones constantly.
Thank in advance guys!

1. Fast enough.
2. Yes
3. Loud enough.
4. Camera good enough without update. Update only increases digital zoom. Recommend pro mode though. Launch speed and focus wise, S7 should be better.
5. Nope.
6. Decent. Still will get scratched.
7. Nope. May or may not stutter for a few apps. Maybe occasional stutters.
8. No notification issue for me. Using C636.
9. Signal not bad. Call did not drop even though have lousy reception. WiFi signal also decent.
10. Yes.
11. July?
12. Don't think so.
13. Nope.
14. Not for me since last year December.
15. Swipe down on fingerprint scanner for notification bar.
16. Touch sensitivity generally ok. Except for the left and right edge. Heard that it will be improved in emui 5.1.
17. EU is after Asia I think. Should not have massive delay.
2. Good even in bright sun.
6. Gets very greasy with fingermarks. There is also a back protector. I keep mine in a case so took both off.
9. Signal good. WiFi excellent. GPS OK for car use but has a number of issues.
14. Case is strong and well built but not waterproof.
16. No troubles with mine.
I upgraded month ago from S7E to Mate 9, and won't look back, the S7E looks like a toy that is waterproof
IP68, Samsung Pay, better low light performance is the advantages S7E has, and bigger development community, though it didn't make the phone much better in my XP( i tweak kernels and settings as well).
Forget battery anxiety with the mate 9, it will last no matter what u do, camera is better than S7 in normal light and some bokeh effects are amazing, screen is crisp and bright, and ye big, battery is great.
Settings are a bit puzzling but you'll used to it, my only complaint is that the speakers lose quality under full volume, could be better but the stereo speakers are good enough as it is, and better software argument, though EMUI 5.1 might solve it.
Coming from S7 Edge and LG G5, no way I go back. Love the brightness of the screen in sun, quick fingerprint reader. Great support by HiCare chat. Back cover the best I have found, even Leica leather cover cannot beat it.
Rest is answered!

Really mate, you have to be that grumpy guy? Did you read my post? That's what I wrote:
"I did read a lot of reviews and watch a lot of video review, but I value real user experience here on XDA most, not some reviewer that is getting the phone for free to review and changing phones constantly."
Not to mention that review sites and youtube bloggers are not using this phone for months like users here on XDA and did not buy the phone with their hard earned money and they are changing devices every week/every few weeks and they are not going deep into user experience like people using the device for 3-4 months and not getting through updated and so on, not to mention many of them are biased towards some brands.
I think that many other people are in front of the same choice like me and this thread will help them to take the decision to buy or not to buy this expensive and relatively unknown model/brand. Also if I buy the phone I will edit my first post and give my personal answers.
Anyway, have a nice day and be positive mate

1. Yes, the Kirin 960 SoC is one of the best around.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. Yes, 10x zoom added recently up from 6x. Very fast launch and focus.
5. No.
6. Opinions diverge. I find mine absolutely perfect.
7. Not in my experience.
8. I never had notification issues.
9. Signal is brilliant. GPS is perfect for car driving but you might find it not accurate enough if you're mapping a run.
10. I don't root so can't comment.
11. 5.1 beta is just an internal name. It will be released as 5.0 afaik. Nobody knows when.
12. Not that I know of.
13. There are 2 power saving modes. Performance mode is the normal mode.
14. None whatsoever.
15. Yes
16. Quite good in my opinion, but still room for improvement.
17. They're among the first to be released.

First I wanna start by saying that I love what this phone represents. I actually love Xiaomi as a company for a while now... I love what they’re doing, I love their hardware, and I really love their innovations (in regards especially, to the Mi Mix series). I’m not bashing Xiaomi here, but just trying to share my experience and have an open discussion.
Gonna be upfront, I’m writing this post on the iPhone 8 Plus. Long story short, it’s a gift and I’ve actually had the iPhone X in the past (before I got the Redmi Note 5).
As a general package, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is very impressive. It does everything fairly okay. And I think that’s my main problem with it. I’m the type of person that needs a phone to do only a few things, but do them VERY well. And this phone just doesn’t, unfortunately...
It has a big edge to edge screen, but it’s just not bright enough for using in the summer and its viewing angles are not good. I don’t know if the Canadian sun is acting up this year, but I can’t see much when the sun is out. It was so frustrating during my recent long road trips.
The battery is absolutely amazing. I’ve never used a phone with battery this good. If the only thing you need in a phone is battery life, please get this phone without even thinking twice. FYI, I’ve had the iPhone X, Galaxy Note 8, LG V20, Redmi Note 3, Galaxy Note 5, and many more...
The speaker is... okay. I don’t use the headphone jack or the IR blaster. The Bluetooth is not good. My headphones cut off all the time when I turn my head (Jaybird X3). This doesn’t happen with other phones. The camera is very decent.
My main issue with the phone, however, is that it lags. Stock Rom, custom rom, it just lags. All the reviews praised the Snapdragon 636, but I got what I paid for here. On top of that, if you try to use the phone when it’s charging you’re in for a frustrating experience. It REALLY lags. Now, this may be my unit, ok. But I have no way of knowing that. Coming from the iPhone X, I was excited to use MIUI overall and the navigation gestures specifically in MIUI 9.5 or 10 beta. They suck. You can’t use it. I mean, it lags beyond anything acceptable with the gestures. If they can’t make it work properly, why release it? I don’t get it... Is this the fault of android? Probably. But customers shouldn’t care. I don’t think it’s the processor or the RAM. Because from what I’ve seen, similar lag behaviour happens on the Mi 8. It also happens on their new tablet? Just to be clear, every android phone I’ve owned in the past had some lag issues, even the Galaxy Note 8. I’m starting to think that no matter how much you pay and what phone you get, android is just a lag factory after one week... I’m a bit confused as to why the reviews of this device don’t mention the problems I’ve raised.
Does the iPhone 8 Plus/X lags? Yes. But only like a few times a day, maybe. You forget about it. I wish iOS had Picture in Picture with YouTube and all the customizations of android, but at least it’s a joy to use overall. And YouTube Red plays in the background, even with the screen off, which definitely helps. But god damn it, why can I only have four apps in the dock?! That’s just plain dumb...
All I’m basically saying here is that after using a budget device, I was willing to pay more than twice the amount just in order to get a better experience on the phone itself. Was about to pull the trigger and get a OnePlus 6, but got the iPhone 8 Plus as a gift instead. I’m not saying the iPhone should be compared here, obviously. Was also contemplating on getting the Xiaomi Mi 8, but after my experience I was a bit scared that many issues I had are MIUI related... Like, you can’t even change the lock screen to be a live wallpaper. Even on iOS you can do that. Come on... The camera is actually cute. But the official MIUI ROM that came with the phone, it took about 5 seconds to open the camera app. Are they for real? This was official firmware, I don’t understand this.
If you survived this long post please tell me, (1) did you have the same experience as I did? Should I give this phone another chance? (2) What about the Mi 8? Care to share if you own one? (3) Should I have gone with the OnePlus 6 to have a corrective experience?
In terms of lagging there is something wrong with your phone. I have 240 apps and it is superspeedy. I am on 9.5.17.

I'm with the same setup. Even more apps, like 300+ and no lag at all! Love my RN5 Global! Such a great device and outstanding battery life!
No lags here as well. Sometimes Facebook messager "chat bubbles" tend to lag when opening (but never when closing for some reason). Phone is fast and fluid, holds battery very well and even PUBG on HD wasn't able to make it hot (it was barely warm)
Camera is decent but its a budget device. C"Mon
Viewing angles aren't great but it doesn't bother me at all. Speaker is very good and loud . I"m very happy with my whyred

I experience lag navigating on MIUI aswell, just update to the lastest version. About lags I feel none! Also the screen seems way too bright for me, brighter than any other device I've been in contact with and also the darkest. Speaker, well, it's a cheap phone, they had to cut somewhere. About bluetooth I don't have an opinion, I'm still a 3.5 jack man.
Seriously, you are comparing it to the Iphone 8 / X ?
Wow, there is a huge price difference, I am using Redmi note 5 Global, doesn't experience any lag

Wasn’t really making a direct comparison, there is none of course. More of making the point that ANY android phone I’ve had (and this includes Custom Roma and Kernels) has some lag issues. And this doesn’t trickle down well to the budget range at all. And it’s strange that I’m noticing this on any phone I’ve had, including the iPhones. But people say they have zero? It’s just strange... maybe we’re defining lag differently?
My old screen guard lowered my max brightness, I got a better one and now I have better sunlight legibility...
Don't know about miui, but I've never had lag issues except when I underclock the cpu and GPU while playing heavy games...
using Redmi Note 5 AI (China)here with MIUI 10 8.7.5 Beta and no lags. Was previously on MIUI 9.5 nd had no lags or problems with it
either.

Its fluid...Maybe you have a different definition of lag.
Most probably you got ripped off or some shiet.
Overall device performance is buttery smooth and can give you ATLEAST 24-30 fps animation.
Screen can get hella bright (even for indian standards) and very dark aswell.
Good luck to you.
Everything you experienced is completely opposite to what I experience in my rn5p. It works great, brightness is good enough, lags? Nope. Nope. Nope.

I have issues with the bluetooth audio as well. Any solution? Lags? Nope. Experienced app crashes sometimes and minor bugs that's it.
.
Using RN5 Pro AI here in Saudi Arabia with none of these issues. Bluetooth is working fine , decent range and sound quality with my Sennheiser HD 4.40 headphones. Had to root to enable AptX streaming though.
Everything you're saying is true.
I feel the phone is laggy as ****. Every xiaomi i've owned (RN4 and RN5 and a Mi5) have lagged. Comparing, even the Mi5, to my last non-xioami phone(Huawei P9), RN5 is laggy as fu*k. They are using bad screens that tend to ghost a little and makes everything seems laggy. But that isn't the only problem, the main problem is the software. I can't understand how Xiaomi is one of the best phone company(money-wise) but their software is garbage. They somehow tend to just break everything for no reason. Qualcomm gives them everything to make a good phone and they fu*k everything with their *****y software/drivers/blobs/everything.
my old nexus 5 feels smoother.
I agree on the brightness part but lag? I don't have noticable lag at all and the navigation gestures are fluent. but I experienced horrible lag on the xiaomi.eu rom but not global.

My thoughts on the poco f1
I sold my OP 3 for 9k and bought a poco f1 for 16k after offers. Huge upgrade for just 7k.
My opinion on the poco f1:
Cons :
Having to get rid of bloat feels pretty ****ty. It makes the phone feel much less premium than it already is.
The display is good at best. I miss the blacks from my 3.
The radius of the corners is way too high.
The notch is pretty big and prevents NOTIFICATIONS from popping up in the NOTIFICATION BAR...
Multi touch problems with the screen. You can tell that they really compromised here.
Aggressive memory management on miui 9.6
The phone's kinda heavy. Hurts more when it inevitably falls on your face. Especially with a Spigen case.
The theme store's categories and titles are plain hilarious.
Pros:
Cheap af
Durable af
Face unlock is ridiculously good. Ive not seen my lockscreen for days(you can disable this though)
Games are pretty damn smooth
Loud ass speaker.
Great camera with GCAM 6.1
Miui 10 brings loads of improvements and fixes and the developers are actively listening to the community.
Display gets really dim at night. Way better than the op3. I think it does 2.5 nits?
The battery is ****ing amazing. 2 hrs of pubg, a bunch of YouTube, email, Reddit, slides, with Auto brightness, the GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi and mbile data on both Sims on,. I ended up with 12 hrs of SOT. Huge improvement from the 5 I used to get on the OP3
Display with HDR on is pretty impressive.
Plenty or third party Dev support to help every Dev out with his life.
Some MIUI features are great. Lots of settings to scroll through
Headphone jack!!!

Poco f1 can reach 480 nits peak brightness and it can play 1080p HDR videos (auto brightness) and to an extent it does the job but don't compare it with true oled based HDR displays which have more than 1000 nits of brightness and more vivid colors
Those complaining about the multi touch issue is when then press q,p and Back button at the very corner. I didn't play PUBG so I am good. Mobile Legends doesn't cause problem for me

There was a 10% off? HDFC offer + reward points. Ended up getting it for 16 instead of 24

actually i play pubg alot recently, never had this issue. now i'm trying the claw (playing with 4 fingers) and i suck at it but touch accuracy is top. try a multi touch app from the play store and check with it if it doesn't track your fingers correctly as it might be a problem with ur unit.

pocophone f1 global version. touch was ok before and after applying a screen protector. the screen protector also makes me able to use the phone vertically with my polarized glasses (just wanted to mention that for other people)

My thoughts on the poco f1
I sold my OP 3 for 9k and bought a poco f1 for 16k after offers. Huge upgrade for just 7k.

Definitely. Their upgrade program is pretty enticing too. Especially after they dropped the 128gb version to 22k it's a really good deal. I recommend it.

Oh, thanks for the reply
But isn't 1k extra just for that is a bit too expensive...does anyone ever want to spend that?
I was so excited that my Pixel 4a arrived yesterday, been shopping for a new phone for quite some times. My old phone is HTC U11, which I still love a lot, but it's getting a bit unreliable, and the picture quality is a bit lacking compared with phones these days.
So, my first impressions:
1. It is so small, almost too small! It's good and bad. Screen size on paper is bigger than my U11, but Pixel 4a screen is narrower, so it's taking some times to get used to.
2. The screen color is a little warm (yellowish) to my taste... I hope there will be tweaks in the future to fix that. Also, the brightness of the screen is not as strong as my U11. I need to set it to around 75% even indoor...
3. The Android 10 gesture navigation needs some getting used to as well. I run an app called "All in One Gestures" on the U11, it allows me to launch 3 different apps of choice on both edges of the screen, swiping in at different directions. So, I don't want to use the Android 10 gestures which take up the side edges for "back" function. Anyway, "All in One Gestures" keep crashing on Pixel 4a, I think maybe it needs root access, or it just won't run on Android 10... I found another app that is similar in functionalities that seems to work ok for now, it can run 4 apps (2 on each side, depending on short vs long swipe). So, I still prefer the traditional 3 button navigation.
4. I wish they have in screen fingerprint sensor, or power button fingerprint sensor, I usually have my phone lay down on a table and I want to unlock it.
5. I miss the edge sense on U11 - squeeze to launch cam, squeeze again to take pictures. I am ok to work with double-tab power to launch camera, but then there is no convenient way to take picture (like squeeze), have to press the shutter on screen. (Edit: just found out can use power down button to take picture, seems quite convenient...)
So sounds like a lot of negatives, but after setting it up to my taste, I am starting to like it. Every good things you heard from the Internet are true. Night mode cameras are magic. I weighted camera as an important feature and so I am expecting that the good camera would greatly offset the other negatives I listed.
My only complaint is the screen brightness. Anything less than 80% and stuff just starts dissapearing on the screen. At the lower levels you can't even tell the screen is on. Just going to have to turn adaptive off and set it to 100% brightness full time.
hmm... Comin from a op7pro, the screen brightness to me seems totally fine out of the box really. maybe 10 or so percent higher than what I kept the 7pro on, ~60% instead of ~50% but don't need it maxed or anything crazy. High brightness is a bit less than HBM mode on 7pro but it works, I also like how they alter the screen colors to help visibility when in direct sunlight. The OP devices don't do that.
My 4a screen looks pretty well calibrated, doesn't look too warm or cold at all to me. No tint issues at low brightness.
Audio quality is actually pretty good, especially for such an inexpensive device, I was having flashbacks of nexus devices and no, this 4a is better than those.
Not seen any stutter or lag at all really, maybe 3 times for a split second during all of phone setup/installing ~80 apps.
Camera takes pics fast, no lag on snapping to seeing the pic. Haven't tried with HDR+ but regular HDR for sure is quicker than anything else but other pixels. The camera preview is indeed garbage, not so much in good lighting but especially in dark/night shots, the picture you get looks a million times better than what the preview showed before you took it.
I got my 4a on 20th, Aug.
I don't have enough time, I haven't tried much yet.
But it's very smooth and fast. Good for me.
I found a Bug(?), NFC cannot ON/OFF by pressing NFC icon in QS Panel.
(NFC can be turned ON/OFF by following the setting menu)
a few functions I've confirmed:
aptX music playback with Bluetooth Headset (w/ Shure RMCE-BT2)
LTE Carrier aggregation by "4G+" sign
VoLTE (call and receive)
I will try various things from now on.
First evening of using. I agree with points already mentioned. But the one thing bothering me most I'm noticing is the adaptive brightness constantly jumping around. Anyone else with adaptive brightness issues?
More thoughts after 1st full day of use (work from home due to COVID-19):
1. Battery barely lasted my full day at home. I think my phone usage is less while working from home compared to a"normal" day at work. So a little disappointed, probably need to charge mid day.
2. I love the call screen function, it's so useful, can read what the other party on the line has to say.
I think it's too early to decide/discuss battery life.
At this moment, as you say, it feels like "keep one day".
But I don't think it's right for now.
I think that Currently the "Screen On Time" is longer than in normal(usual) use.
my previous phone (Motorola Moto G5 Plus) was kept for about 3 days with one full charge.
I would like to expect the same for my 4a....
About "Adapitive Brightness"
no problems found. my pixel4a looks like working properly.

Yes! This has been driving me crazy. I can't always reproduce it but it seems to be the worst in a dimly lit room.
I am loving the phone so far. I was previously using a OnePlus 3T so this is my first new phone in 4 years. It's much snappier than the 3T (obviously) and I'm not having any problems with the apps I've migrated over. The only complaint I have is a lack of a pulsing notification light. I've seen a few alternatives that add a ring around the camera but would prefer to wait for an official app made specifically for the 4a.
Quick question,
I have the pixel 3a XL. I am looking for an overall smaller phone, and do not use the phone for gaming, etc. Am an average user at best, really use the phone more as a phone than a multimedia unit, etc.
on paper, the pixel 4a seems to meet my needs and is an upgrade in ram / memory, etc. I enjoy the simplicity of the pixel experience and appreciate the security update schedule.
I did pre-order and still have two / three weeks before they start shipping in Canada so am tracking feedbacks and issues reported. My intention is not to cancel the order with Google, but.....
Based on first impressions - would anyone see an immediate reason to not go ahead with the purchase ?
thanks in advance,

I gave the battery a good test today. Constant Spotify pass through to bluetooth + constant GPS program running and tracking movement for 7.25 hours. The screen was off for most of this time, though screen-on time was ~40 minutes. Battery was at 50% and 18W car charger then charged it at about 1%/minute. My previous phone, a OnePlus 5, with a slightly larger capacity and running at three-years old, exact same setup running A10 except for a custom kernel that underclocks the CPUs and GPU, was giving me about 35% remaining several weeks in a row under the same usage. So, Pixel 4A was draining at 7%/hr and the OP5 was draining at 9% with an underclocked kernel.

I have the 7 pro and thought about getting a 4a. Does the 4a feel more like a side step or an actual upgrade? I can't imagine it's faster than the pro, but Google support would be nice.
This is def an upgrade from my Pixel 3a and I loved that phone! I kinda like the smaller form and the display seems as good as or better than previous iterations. For the price point you really cant beat this phone.
I recently bought a op 7t for 400$ on sale. I really like the specs, os, and performance but prefer the headphone jack an smaller size of the 4a. How do you both devices compare in terms of performance and experience overall? I'm worried that the 4a would lag or whatnot due to its processor. What do you guys think?

Compared to the 7pro, the 4a is a downgrade in every way except for maybe the camera. And if the smaller size is a plus to you or not..
I made the switch for development as I'm tired of OP's crap sources and late af updates, in that regard, this phone is totally fine. But in no way does it feel like a side-grade much less an upgrade. It's a downgrade for sure, but you'll be on latest OS updates.. The phone is definitely worth it for the money though, no argument here.
I got a mi9t but it is too heavy and too big for me. Do you think performance and autonomy will be better with the 4a ? I got 8 hours sot with lineage actually..

i'm having the same issue. adaptive brightness seems to be wonky. hopefully they will have a fix for this.
btw, don't use blokada app! it tracks your data and it borks the keyboard (it bugs out the keyboard)
overall i like it. i'm using this as an extra 'just in case' phone if needed for certain trips or need a better phone than the xs max.
comparing xs max and 4a side by side, clearly the display is better on the xs max (less blue tint, more natural colors), and brighter.
photos are much better on the 4a obviously. i like the smaller form factor. its a no frills phone so i'm content with what it can do and okay with the limitations.
Front camera is a big negative on this phone, the selfies are very very soft even with outstretched arm over 16 inches as said by Google experts, don't know why no one is highlighting this issue, this has been going on from pixel 3a ,the lens is set to infinity focus and it's so wide that face will never be in proper focus unless you use a selfie stick to hold it way further
