In one of OnePlus's ads they show the phone going into a bucket of water to do their IP rating instead of getting the phone certified. And that's it for the bucket ad. They didn't show the end results if the phone still works or has water damage. Will the phone survive the bucket 9f water?
https://youtu.be/pdJ7t2eLRV4
I saw a couple of youtube videos where they reviewed the device while it was submerged in water.
My guess is, you can take it out on a rainy day and it will survive but don't count on it.

OP elected not to get the phone IP certified in order to save money and production time. The phone can be submerged, but that doesn't mean it's a underwater camera. If you drop it in a puddle or the toilet you'll be fine, but don't do it on purpose.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u52FCFPKhQc&t=12s
Well as i see it if could take protection from example dropping on a table a glass of water or a walking on raining weather condition(for those don't have an umbrella) or taking it with wet hands it will cover most people.
That's kind of protection most of us wants after all.
And 7 Pro will deliver that kind of protection.
An IP rating does not mean your phone is covered by warranty for water damage, so the IP rating is for nothing but peace of mind. I have peace of mind knowing I'm never going to throw this thing in a bucket of water, but if it accidentally gets wet it'll be fine.

I've dropped all 3 of my previous OnePlus phones in sinks fill of water, and in the toilet without any permanent damage. All of them continued working fine and still do work fine. My previous OnePlus phones were the 3T, 5T, and 6T. If they could sustain multiple submerging's in water then this one will be fine too.
This breaks it!

Willing to pay $100 for each of these features? I wouldn't. Also, S10+ doesn't have 90Hz
I accidentally took my 6T for a swim...after being in the pool for 5 minutes, a wave of panic washed over me as realized I had forgotten to take it out of the shoulder strap of my bathing suit (I had been taking pictures on the beach in Florida)! I dried it off immediately...no damage!

Not everyone wants all that features.
Only headphones jack was mistake oneplus remove it.
They're welcome as long does not have any further increase oneplus device prices otherwise I prefer not having it at all (wireless charging, official ip rating)
But hey have you seing any kind OEM adding all time new features and maintain the same price or even getting lower ??
I'm not.
20 years with dozens of smartphone never nedded wireless charging neither official ip waterproof.
And if you've asked I'm not either fan of glass made smartphone.
I would prefer solid aluminum construction and I can live without wireless charging.(Thats not actually wireless)

I have Bose sound links and jabra active pro ear buds for sound. My truck has Sync.
I don't plan on taking under water pool pics with my phone, so saving 10 not having it "rated" is fine. Wireless charging? Seriously? They don't make a QI base that meets warp charging yet. I have absolutely no problem spending 2.8 secs plugging it in. When you design a better piece of trash, let me know, I'll be your first tester.
I don't really care about the device not having an official ip rating because since Sony promoted their phones with underwater video and dealt with a huge amount of returns from water damage it seems no OEM is willing to replace a water damaged device. This is mainly because over time at least one part of the seal is likely going to fail just enough for water to get in. Based on how this phone is designed I bet it could pass IP67 and it's water resistance will endure longer because the Oneplus 7 pro seems designed to avoid the kind of heating up that often causes a seal to fail in the first place.
Welp guys I'm must be the first person with water damage....need pics anyone?....to lazy to pull out my other phone just to take a pic of this 7 pro as I'm typing with it now...anyway I didn't dunk my phone in water I just basically let water run all around it so it might as well be dunking it in there lol...
I usually wash my phone no soap just to get the dirt off of it
What happened to my phone is camera gets fogged up and my power button will not work at all.....

Um, remind me to never let you hold my phone.
I did ruin a phone once by having it fall out of my back pocket and, of course, right into the toilet.
Still, it's good to know you got away with it a bunch of times.
I have a different concern and that is falling off of my boat into the water and being able to make a call. I don't want to carry the waterproof portable radio all the time.

I'd be much more comfortable holding your phone to look at a photo you wanted to show me than the other poster who keeps dropping his phone into the toilet.
The IP rating is over rated. The only reason I have this phone is because my water resistant IP certified Pixel 2xl didn't quite survive my visit to the water park last week.
Water resistant is not waterproof.
These phone will survive splash and rain.
Don't expect.to swim with any phone.
I tend to keep electronics away from water.

Your advice is WRONG and dangerous, check the 100's of videos on youtube of i-diots who ruined their i-phones for youtube views.
From their website
My device has been treated with Liquipel; can I take it swimming or surfing?
No, the Liquipel treatment is a preventative coating and is meant to protect the internal, vital components of electronics from liquid corrosion in the event of accidental liquid exposure. Just as you would not intentionally throw your device on the ground after purchasing a case, you would not want to intentionally submerge your device in liquid after having Liquipel applied.
OP's link to waterproof skins look like a much better product, but its also not true WATERPROOF, more like Spashproof.
A cheap ZIP plastic bag will work best (the thicker the better)
That is true. I am getting my device liquipel'd, but you're right I'm not going to take it swimming with me. Totally different purpose
Do not DELIBERATELY wet your phone if using products like liquipel

There's no way we'll ever see a truly waterproof case that will let you use the phone while swimming. The phone itself would have to be designed to be waterproof from ground up.
The 2 main issues the case needs to overcome is the capacitive screen and the speaker/mic. A layer of water tends to block the touchscreen. This can be seen with wet applied screen protectors. The screen doesn't work properly until the water has been completely tried.
The more important issue is with the speaker/mic combo. In most cases watertight means air tight too. We all know what an airtight enclosure does for sound. How do you plan to make a phone call with decent volume through an airtight enclosure? Although it's possible to transmit sound through objects like with the cup/string method but like I said the phone would have to designed for use in water from the ground up.
We won't be seeing truly waterproof Nexus 4's anytime soon if at all.

what?
If your talking about airtight doesn't mean vacuumed environment... Air still exists inside the phone, waves can easily transfer from air -> plastic -> air...

um...I bought a waterproof case for my Xperia S. The touch screen works perfectly without the need to be dried.
About sound waves, it travels in water and air. Air tight doesn't mean soundless. A vacuum means soundless. Two completely different concept.
And why you want phone call under the water? Most of us who wants water proof case is to take to water sports and maybe take a few videos without damaging the device.
So yes, those cases exist, in the past, now, and in the future.
be careful when you say "never", because there is a possibility

umm, ya ..no I guess you don't get out a lot but I work at Best Buy and there is a case for the iphone 4, 4S, and 5 called lifeproof and it is waterproof up to 6 Ft my friend has it and he takes pictures underwater in my pool and they look awesome. Also about sound quality, sound quality is actually improved, I didn't believe it at first but the lifeproof case redirects sound from the bottom of the iphone and turns the whole back of the case into an amplifier, it's rather impressive technology. For plugging up the charger its no problem you just open the port, it says it keeps it's waterproof seal for thousands of open/shuts, and advises that you should open/shut it around 2 times a day and the seal should be fine. Mic works fine. The only downside to this case is the 80$ price and that you can't dock it without an extension everything else works great. And yes he does go swimming with it just not over 6ft deep.
The technology being completely possible, the nexus 4 is going to be one of the most popular phones because of its cheep price, amazing specs, being part of the pure android experience nexus line, which means tons of support from developers. It's going to be one of the most popular devices ever built and so i wouldn't doubt that they make a waterproof case for it.
Not meaning to bash you, next time just make sure to do a 10sec google search of "waterproof phone case" and see how hard they are to make before you rule out the chance of nexus 4 ever getting one/ getting one soon

That iottie case is only a temporary case and is not meant to stay on the phone for long. I've seen it at the store and it's not very durable and wont hold up for long. Why would you want a waterproof case on your phone all the time? Even the waterproof case for the iPhone is very bulky and you wouldnt want to keep that on the phone 24/7. There is no waterproof case like that for the nexus 4 and most likely never will.
Most of the time you can salvage a phone if it just took a quick dip, the phone will power down automatically so just let it sit for a few days to dry. I've heard that dunking the wet phone in 99% iso alcohol to displace the water since the alcohol will dry much faster also works well but never tried it.
I bought today sealabox 3xl for my nexus 4. Somebody have just try it?
For me the best waterproof cover is ipega. I writed to the manufacture some months ago to ask for an nexus 4 version. Plese do the same. Sorry for my English.

The Galaxy Active and the Xperia Z are both going to be waterproof, so I think that I will take my chances with those rather than paying 50 bucks for someone to spray paint my phone.
the problem with this waterproof case will be condensation when the cpu heats up after using the phone with gps for example! and if condensation is created in an air tight environment, the electronics of the phone will eventually see water!
That case is probably only good for just a few hours of stand by at a time and if you start recording underwater videos and your cpu starts heating up your gonna get some condensation in the phone!

Unless you phone is exuding water vapor it wont condense on to the inside of the case. Conversely your phone exuding heat would warm up the case driving away condensation.
Putting your phone into a case while in a humid environment then moving to a cold one would fog up the inside. Nothing else can really.
R3dRumz i dont mean to be dismissive but so long as your sealing the case in a humid environment the case will have the moisture within. If the phone is closed up in a dry environment its pretty much okay.
COMPLETE FAIL. Is this phone too fragile?
Less than 48 hours ownership... Bent down to tie my shoe, phone falls 24 inches from breast pocket, screen totally obliterated and unresponsive. Phone is bricked. Can't unlock. Can't retrieve data. Can't answer calls or read texts or SILENCE ALARMS!!!
This fragility is totally unacceptable. I carried a DROID MAXX HD for 2-1/2 years with only a 3M film screen protector. The MAXX HD suffered numerous cringing falls and rebounds off my foot skittering across asphalt and concrete. Never a scratch on that screen.
I don't see any 3M film screen protectors for the MXPE, only tempered glass. It seems to me that film is superior. Hard tempered glass protectors would seem to transfer shock while plastic film deforms and absorbs shock.
MOTO CARE SUCKS (so far). I immediately purchased Moto Care online (which advertises retroactive coverage if purchased within thirty days). But the Moto web site did not immediately recognize my purchase. Spoke to three uninformative customer (non-) service representatives (with heavy language barriers).
The third rep told me my Moto Care would take up to ten days for "delivery". WHAT? There is nothing to ship! Further, the Moto Care purchase FAQ says nothing about "delivery" delays. The rep says "sorry", there's nothing he can do.
Next day, my Moto Care package magically "appears" on the Moto web site under "My Stuff" and so I click the "Repair" button. I enter all my details and make payment. Now, it's almost been a week and there's no sign of life. I click "Track Repair" and enter my RMA number. Nothing. So, then I attempt to track using my IMEI number. Nothing. Finally, I try it again using my phone number and zip code. Surprise---that one works and I can see I have a repair order, but it's all blanks under "Replacement device, date shipped, etc."
How many days to get a replacement? Who knows.
Any other aftermarket sources to replace a cracked screen?
I have a film based screen protector. Several options at Amazon. Your experience seems very odd. Is your post a repost? Seems like I've seen it before.

I've occasionally dropped every phone I've ever owned without damage. This phone literally obliterated from a short drop. Do I have to wrap it in a pillow? I'll check Amazon for film protectors, thanks. Not a re-post here.
Go on you guys, wish for even smaller bezels, less protruding chassis and more "edge" effect on the rounded, exposed glassy front surface, larger screens and thinner devices.
Can't cheat physiscs. Where there is no crash zone there is no crash zone.
Nexus 5x prime example: cheap (but soft, dampening) plastic and screen is sunken in. Or Sony, with the rubbery corners on their devices.
The more of the above comes true, the less shock absorbent the devices become. I dont care about a 1mm or 2mm bezel or a crappy unhandy edged glass surface if this means more spiderman-app and less funtime with the device. And I want to make all sh**heads shut up which cry for all of the above, producing crystal cellphones as a consequence. Go get and shatter your iPhones if you want useless, easily breakable, expensive jewellery. I try to actually use and not only show off my devices.

HEAR, HEAR!!! I'd pay $100 more for a THICKER, HEAVIER device with diamond plate bezel, thick long-lasting battery, and non-ridiculous connectors (i.e, cheap, flimsy USB jacks)---Do you hear me, you USB Implementers Forum designers??? When are you going to design a hardy connector???? USB-C is another disaster design with no thought toward ruggedness. But, oh boy, it plugs in both ways... yippeee!!! NOT.
I actually think there'd be a huge market for a ruggedized military-looking device ("tactical" is the buzz word among the gun/hunter crowd). Slim jewelry phones are for the 21-year old ladies who walk between bars in winter with 4-inch skirts and no sleeves on, and maybe for dentists and lawyers and West Hollywood types. Simply unacceptable for those who physically work for a living. And, like I said, my MAXX HD survived dozens of drops. I don't feel I should have to expect a 24-inch drop will destroy a phone.
Sorry to hear about your experience. But when the screen glass makes up an edge of the phone then it isnt going to survive drop into hard surfaces. This is why they included a bumper in the box. Keep in mind these things are made of glass and delicate electronics. It would be wise to temper your expectations. I agree about Motorola's customer service. It leaves EVERYTHING to be desired.

Breaking a phone screen its pure luck, i had a X 2014 which i dropped SO MANY TIMES and never ever had a problem
Then 1 night, a 10inch drop and BAM screen broken.
And why are you assuming your experience its the general situation with the phone ? I dropped this phone the other day from about the same height, not even a scratch or something thanks to the bumper that came in.

Just a warning to everyone wanting to get this phone because it can "take the drops."
So I'm getting ready to watch the World series, sitting on my sofa and my V10 falls off the edge of the sofa on to the floor and guess what? The SCREEN CRACKED! Are you kidding me LG? You boast how this thing can take the drops and my phone falls TWO FEET and the screen cracks? Now I have to pay a deductible to get another phone? Yeah...let me get that phone, take it in and trade it for a different brand. Not sure if mine is defective or something but I've had bigger drops on other phones that had no issues. This is NOT what I expected from this phone - a phone I was hoping to keep and carry with no case. HORRIBLE experience! My G4 can take a bigger drop than that!
It's physics and coincidence. You were unlucky enough to have it a weak spot.
It happens.
Sadly, LG doesn't do the one free screen replacement like some other OEMs do.
Any phone can shatter with one unlucky 2 foot drop. LG is no different.
Sorry about the broken screen, though. That does suck.

I get that but they WILL be hearing from me since they tout in commercials how you can drop the phone and it can take it. Can't hurt to try. I'll update the thread once I talk to them.

Actually, this is from LG's website:
1. The LG V10 passed a military standard test for shock (MIL-STD-810G Method 516.6, Procedure IV – "Transit Drop"") that consists of 4-foot drops onto 2" of plywood over concrete. The test includes impacts on every face, edge and corner of the device. Further, the device passed an enhanced version of the Transit Drop test consisting of 26 drops from 4 feet onto a concrete surface. "Passed" is defined as the absence of any of the following issues: surface cracks, inoperability of device including camera, and separation of screen from monitor. Device may not perform as tested in all conditions. Test performed in controlled environment. Do not attempt.
I get that "device may not perform as tested in all conditions" but for Pete's sake, this thing dropped 2 feet onto carpet.
Very sad.

CARPET? I'm sorry, but I don't believe that. There is no way your phone dropped 2 feet onto a soft, impact absorbing surface like carpet and broke. Carpet is probably the safest thing you could possibly drop the phone on!
Wow, that is certainly sad. Man I hope they will replace it

I swear to you. I even sarcastically said to my wife, "Oh no...my phone fell. I'm SOOOO Worried." Then I picked it up and it was cracked. I was completely shocked myself. I kept saying, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????!!!!" Had I dropped it getting out of my car or something onto concrete, I would understand. I'm still in shock.
By the way ---- it's berber carpet and there's currently no padding under it because we had a flood and are waiting for new flooring. Thin carpet on top of concrete. Still...CARPET.
I am sorry, i recently dropped my Nexus 6. Although it didn't hit carpet it did have a case. I was bummed non the less
Thats unfortunate. No two pieces of glass are the same though. I work on concrete all day and i cant tell you how many phones ive dropped on it and never cracked a screen, knock on wood. I'm like you, I don't plan on using a case with this phone. I may think twice about that now.
Still waiting to receive my device but you don't need a case to protect the screen... Get a tempered glass protector
Best $8 investment you can make on your $600 phone

I ordered it online last night from Amazon. They didn't have them in store when I bought it.

Yikes, I feel you.
Although it really is the physics of the matter, and drop tests are based on statistics, I feel you.
It goes completely against what you were lead to expect, and I agree, you need to let LG know, and everyone else who will listen.
I can't imagine the horror. Complain everywhere for what it's worth. 'Bad luck' would not appease me either in this situation.
I feel you.
Complain to LG maybe they will replace it

No other phone available to take photos right now (Wife sleeping with her iPhone plugged in and white noise on). But why would I make this up? I will post photos tomorrow night after work. Or maybe in the morning.
Definitely happened.

For the time being, thread has been closed per OP request.
I will most likely be going to best buy tomorrow to get a lifeproof for my g5, but I'm curious on the speaker and if it's f effected and if so how much? When/if (only is speaker is murdered) I get it I can also answer questions if you guys have any.

For a 80 dollar price the case feels extremely cheap. I had it for a couple days but returned it. first case failed water test bottom port doesn't "seat" but is sealed by the pressure of clipping it together. (probably the most likely fail point), The screen protector sits too far from the screen you have to apply pressure for the screen to work. It's also difficult to swipe down from the top. There's thin sheets covering the camera and finger print scanner not sure how well they will hold up over time. As far as sound the back has a gap as well creating a vibrating effect when using the loud speaker. It's not hideous but quite annoying just the same. I didn't record any sound but chanced are that may be distorted as well. But some people may like the rattling sound of the speakers since lifeproof is calling it their sub woofing system lol. But this is just an opinion. You may like it.
I got one... I got it for functionality, as a machinist everywhere in my work area is oily including the air.
As mentioned above it does have a cheap feel to it. Mines passed the water test and that's what I was MOST interested in.
Touch navigation is flawless for me even with oily hands.
I was pleasantly surprised that the speaker/fingered print sensor/mic worked at all. Though output from speaker defiantly wasn't hifi. When I purchased I planned on always being connected on Bluetooth. After realizing that I could hear without headphones Bluetooth is now a option not a necessity.
Bottom line... If you spend time in wet environments it's a capable case up for task. If aesthetics is your goal go another direction.

Got mine at worstbuy the same day I upgraded to the G5. I'm usually dubious of screen protector/all in one type cases. Plus, I have giant fingers, so that was a concern also.
I can happily report that so far I have not run into any issues with this case.
Notification drawer slides down with ease, sound isn't affected too much, touch is all but the same as w/o the case.
It just adds a little bulk to the phone (but that's expected with these types of cases). Otherwise, no complaints. Well worth the 79.99 investment.

lifeproof will be great , if you do not mind to pay for 80 dollars
I like mine. It failed the water test the first time around so I sent in for another that works well. The only issue I have is using headphones. For some reason it thinks I'm sending voice commands when I don't even have a mic on my headphones. Sometimes it works great other times I get regular OK Google interruptions and the music will pause/unpause itself when placing the phone in my pocket.
EDIT: I'm actually going to return mine now. Or at least sell it. I do not trust this thing to be waterproof. Whenever I used it in the bathroom while I'm taking a shower (it just sits next to the sink... like 5 ft from the shower even) I notice water vapor trapped inside between the screen and protector the next day. This is the 2nd one I've noticed this with & the 2nd one even passed my initial water test, unlike the first. I don't trust this USB port cover to ever be waterproof and the issues with the headphone jack are just an icing on the cake.

The case is water proof. Not steam proof. Steam is a vapor not a liquid like water.. Steam can easily get past almost any waterproof product

Damn, someone should tell their customer support so they can tell dummies like myself haha. My phone got soaked in a camelbak related mishap the other day (works fine, got completely drenched while on. water in the battery compartment and everything) so I've been using the lifeproof since then. Their customer support is very nice and hassle free though.
This is kind of strange. The glass on the back of the S8+ shattered from a 3 foot drop. But the screen survived a 10 foot drop. I always put my phones in cases and this video confirms my concerns about going naked. https://youtu.be/KzZdlS37tps

My Note5's back glass shattered from a 18" drop a day after I got it. Spoiler alert: glass phones are fragile; especially if they land on a corner. Samsung will replace the back of the phone for $75 plus shipping so you don't have to live with it.

I always use cases too. Usually just a thin lightweight one. I think his 10 foot drop with the s8 was flawed. It was more of a side drop. If it were flat I believe it would have survived. As for the back...Shameful! There is honestly no reason for the back to be glass. They could use an anodized aircraft aluminum with a good clear polymer resin coating to get the same look and added durability. Just an opinion. Thanks for sharing

yes, there is a very good reason: wireless charging.
hence why Apple is moving to glass back this year according to leaks. as things stand right now, once iPhone is exposed to water, user has to wait until charging port is dry to start charging. Galaxy s7 (or 8) does not have such limitations as user can put the phone on charging plate even when wet.

Wireless charging will work with other materials other than glass. I have the v20 (metal back plate) and my wireless charging adapter works just fine. I am Samsung all the way. The only reason I have an LG is because of the Note 7 debacle. Im just saying there are other materials that can be used to get the same look and better durability. A 3 foot drop should not cause the back to shatter on a $750-$850 device, that will not interfere with wireless charging imho. Regardless, I have already preordered my s8+. It will be in a case anyway. That's why after a year or more my devices look as good as the day I unboxed them.

Well, from what I heard you need to own a back plate that supports wireless charging. The "regular" one that comes with the phone by default does not.
I'm with you on cases topic. Phones are too fragile these days.
I gotta be careful cuz I like my phones raw
