So for a while, I had frequent issues with MMS messages while on stock. It seemed to come and go sometimes.
When looking through a number of other forums with others having the same issue on the OP6, I found a simple solution that was recommended and worked for a few people.
Create a new T-Mobile APN and copy all of the settings from the original except for one item.
Under "APN Type", don't add "xcap".
I have had a really hard time finding what xcap is, but I see there is a separate MMS/xcap APN created.
After I did that, I haven't had a single issue with sending/receiving MMS while connected via data or Wi-Fi
I just thought I'd share in case anyone else was experiencing this issue.

I have tried running mulitple different configs for a single APN on CM7 however none of them seem to work fully. I have searched and not found one with a solution. Any single apn works great for constant data connection (i havent noticed a speed change with any) i can send and recive txt. HOWEVER if i recieve a MMS i get the option to dl but it will just sit and the pic/video will never download. Is there a way to get this working? if i reset to the default apn where i have one for phone and a separate for mms i can dl just fine but then my data drops again. Is there a working config for a single APN so i can stay connected to my data and my MMS messeges will download. I send/recieve alot of pictures from my phone that are of my kids or items i am selling online. I need to have this feature work and really dont want to switch to another rom.
thank you for any help.
I have tried other apps like Textra, etc, but none of them can handle MMS properly. If I am on WiFi, MMS will never download or send. If I turn off WiFi, I have about a 50% success rate and they usually end up coming in hours later. I have tried different ROMs, different APN settings, different apps. It is a shame that T-Mobile sells this phone with pathetic MMS capabilities on their network. I understand it works fine with other networks, but T-Mobile is atrocious.
So, is there anyone out there using this phone T-Mobile who doesn't want to throw their phone in the ocean when dealing with MMS? I'd be interested to know your setup.
Thanks for your help?
not a single issue with sms or mms here, on tmobile in nyc. do you have the correct apn? or do you have it entered correctly? im using the fast.tmobile.com apn.
Same here no problems with native messaging app and textra
No problem with stock AOSP MMS or Hangouts or 8SMS. I did have trouble with another third party client but I don't remember what it was, think maybe Textra the same one you used.
No problems with MMS although I will admit I had some problems with MMS but that was the app's fault. I had to manually put the MMS because the auto detection wasn't working just yet. I'm using chompSMS. Textra SMS worked fine as well.
Ensure you have the right APN. Also the T-Mobile APN is fast.t-mobile.com the - matters.
No issues with Purity rom and MMS...
Go to Settings>Wireless&Networks>More>Mobile Network>Access Point Names and select T-Mobile. If there isn't one then add one with the name T-Mobile and the address as fast.t-mobile.com should fix your MMS issues

Which APN?
Are you on Android L? Sounds like the same issues I had. I tried all the APN tricks and it still wouldn't work. I would get them occasionally when off Wifi. On stock 4.4.4 I don't normally have issues with MMS.
Hoping someone can help. I have a Nexus 5 on the AT&T network. Been using it without issue since Halloween 2014. All of a sudden, the past couple of days, I'm having some issues with MMS messages. I started a new group message and only one person received it. I haven't been able to text pictures to people. And today I have been receiving notification stating "Can't download MMS - check your APN settings". I can send regular one on one text messages just fine and sometimes group messages do go through. Sometimes not. Pictures don't seem to be going through at all.
Nothing has changed on my phone and I definitely haven't touched the APN settings. I'm using the "phone" APN for AT&T with all of the correct settings founds online.
I had a friend who's using a 2014 Moto X Pure Edition send me his APN (also AT&T) and he has one called "nxtgenphone" but all of the other settings are identical to the "phone" APN. I've tried added a new APN for "nxtgenphone" but when I select it and then reboot, the phone goes back to the "phone" APN automatically.
Anyone know what could be going on? Is it an AT&T issue? My issue? Other? I'm not sure what to do or check at this point.
Again, everything has worked just fine for months. This is a recent issue the past couple of days.
Thanks!
Bronson
I had a similar issue with Net10. What fixed it for me was moving my active APN to be the first APN.
I just noticed I have the same problem. I am on AT&T with my N5 running 5.1(D) also, my APN it set to ATT Phone, and all settings are confirmed. googled the problem and the "google messenger" app seems to be buggy. It has been updated recently and I think its now more messed up than before...
If on LTE and WIFI I have mms problems
If on LTE, 3g or H only mms goes through!!!
If I use "hangouts" (which I hate becuase if you search for a contact, it puts your google+ contacts up 1st) things seem to work fine in all forms of connection LTE/WIFI/3G/H etc....
So till they fix the "Google Messenger" App, I am forced to use "Hangouts" as it is more reliable for now
I'm on AT&T & the last time I tried the "Google Messenger" App a couple of weeks ago, I had trouble with MMS. I run CM and just went back to the CM messanger, and it was fine. So it seems there is an issue with AT&T & the Google Messenger app that didn't exist before. I wonder if it is specific to the N5 or on other phones.
Well here's another funky thing to add... As stated above I have problems with sending and receiving mms with Google's messenger application at "home" but not with Google's hangout application at "home" where I first noticed the problem. Well while I was at "work" today about 15 miles away from home. I tried Google's messenger application and it worked!!!
So I am now thinking it has something to do with AT&T tower at my home location and Google's messenger application. Since Google's hangout works when I am "home" and away...
Now what???
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium HD app
Another update to my dilemma, when at "home" and I turn my "WIFI" off and restart the phone. Things seem to work, as I look more and more into this problem I am having with sending and receiving mms on AT&T. I am starting to see a pattern that Google's Messenger application may have an issue where it is suppose to "Turn Off" Wifi use cellular data to send and receive the mms and then "Turn On" wifi after it is done with the mms process.... But this does not explain why things work while I am not away from my "Home" location!!!!
Getting to the root of my problem!!!! FIXED!!!!!!
I am starting to think that the MMS problem is not with AT&T and the google messenger app, or 5.1(D), or my APN setting!!!!
But with my wifi router at home!!!
After more reading up on this and also the fact that I have "No" problems sending or receiving MMS while "Away" from home using another WIFI source or with WIFI off. I was starting to think if the problem was "Caused" by my wifi router a linksys wrt54g running dd-wrt??? So what I did was to connect to a Public Wifi I have outside of my house and I was able to send and receive MMS without any problems!!!!
Just recently I had to change a setting on my router to allow my xbox360 to download some content.
That setting was to "Allow - UPnP service" I went back into the router, reversed my settings and rebooted the router, made sure my phone was connected to the "home" wifi and checked my IP address to see if it was connected to my ISP. Attemped to send a MMS and GUESS WHAT!!!! IT WENT TROUGH!!!!! for a short period of time then it stoped again... I went back into the routers setup page and also turned off the STATIC IP I set for the phone, no luck. Then I remembered I have OpenDNS and my router was using the OPENDNS DNS addresses. went to my opendns dashboard and looked at what was blocked by them and found that that MMS proxy site "proxy.mobile.att.net" was "Blocked" by openDNS. So I put that domain in the "Never Block" list and rebooted the router. So far I am able to send and recieve MMS again when I am on my Home network... This still does not explain again why "hangouts" works with all of setting I have chenged before coming to this conclusion. Unless Google Hangouts is not using the APN and uses some other form of traffic to the net???? Also Google's Messenger app is also using DATA via whatever WIFI connection. Thus is my OPENDNS was blocking the proxy it was not going through!!!!
I AM FIXED for now!!!!! :good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:
So all of you who have problems with Google's Messenger APP sending and/or receiving MMS. Yes check to make sure your APN settings are correct. If your are on WIFI, disconnect WIFI attempt to send and receive a MMS. If it goes through when your WIFI Connection is off, but cannot if your connected to WIFI. Then go into your routers setup page and see if UPnP is "ON" or "OFF". When I turned my "UPnP to OFF" and make sure your phone is not assigned a static
IP.... If your using a OpenDNS filter/Blocker check to see if its not blocking the MMS Proxy!!! Lets hope this is it!!!!
Holy crap, thank you for this!! I've had this issue pop up over the last few days and couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong. It seems that un-blocking the proxy did the trick for me, too. I took it one step further, though, and whitelisted the whole att.net domain.
Oddly enough, I noticed that with the domain un-blocked, I could not resolve proxy.mobile.att.net on my desktop. So our phones must know to hand-off to the wireless network if that happens. But with the site "blocked," it WAS being resolved, which is probably what confused the heck out things.
Anyway .. thanks again. Yes, I hit the button.
When I send an MMS message my signal indicator shows data connected and with good signal but Chrome says my device is offline. Has anyone else encountered this issue and know how to fix it?
Edit #1: Why is MMS in it's own seperate APN in the settings I added the MMS into the APN for data and it may be fixed. Why would the default be wrong?
Edit #2: Added screenshots of APN & I T-Mobile is my carrier.
Edit #3: Forgot to mention I'm in the U.S. with a MHA-L29C636, still not fixed

Nobody has anything to say?
Not sure if this is relevant to your issue. My experience here on Vodafone in Australia is that when I receive an MMS, I have to turn off my WiFi and turn on mobile data, and then the MMS content will load. I assume it would be the same if I tried to send an MMS.

I have the same exact issue as these people who also have T-Mobile. Not quite the same as yours mine doesn't work even when connected to WiFi.
Hi to all. I am on Tmobile USA. On L29C636 rebranded from Chinese. Had the same exact issue with Mms after resting the device. So it happens after a reset. I solved the issue by deleting the APN and Mms settings and entered a complete new one based on Tmobile settings. Honestly it's the same but for some reason that's how it worked for me. By the way I had issues with native SMS mms app on the phone from day one. So I am using Textra and that was another work around for the Mms. Good luck

This gives me hope can you please screenshot your APN settings so I can test this solution?
Honestly I had this phone for almost 3 months and all the issues i had I was able to solve form the form here. So don't loose hope. Here is the shot u requested. In general it's the same
I searched and searched for a while but mostly found complaints but no solid solutions to the issue with MMS failures on Verizon using 3rd party texting apps with the HTC U11. Excuse me for starting a new thread regarding this issue if it's redundant or if it's actually been answered. I just wanted to share what worked for me - and I am also very curious if anyone else actually tried exactly what I did here, just to find that MMS failed later on.
So I use AT&T and just finally switched to my U12+, and my wife is now officially the proud user of my U11 (previous phone was a VZW HTC 10). But she uses Verizon. Phone, data, LTE, VoLTE, SMS (regular text) all seem to work great so far. But then I remembered reading about Verizon ppl having issues with MMS with this phone.
So I basically noticed the APN settings are greyed out and I can't edit or create new ones since they're pulled from the carrier, that is, Verizon. Within the default APN, the MMSC settings are blank. Furthermore, the APN type doesn't even include "mms". C'mon Verizon... (see attached screenshots).
But Textra has advanced options to manually enter the MMSC settings. See other attached screenshot for the settings used. Now her phone is able to both send and receive MMS (pics).
- In case you don't want to view the screenshot - Textra - Settings - MMS:
- MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
- MMS Proxy: (leave blank)
- MMS Proxy Port: 80
So my ultimate question is, have any other users who have experienced this problem used this solution, only to find that it failed for no reason later on? Or hopefully, this may help other users; either way, sorry I'm so late to the U11/Verizon party. =D
Thanks.
PS: Also, if it makes a difference, everything is currently working even while heavily modified. Before setting up today, I RUU'ed back to stock with newest as of today firmware (2.42.617.7), flashed latest TWRP, installed Viper 2.2.0, Magisk 17.1, Cleanslate 3.7.17, a few Magisk modules (Enable GMS Doze, Google Framework, YouTube Vanced), AdAway is run and active, and more. I read some people who suspected Magisk or other mods were causing the issues, but it doesn't seem that way to me. Of course, it's reaaaally early to tell!
edit, 5 minutes after posting: also, I'm aware Verizon has also made a lot of progress in the last 12+ months in phasing out CDMA for LTE, so maybe this post is indeed outdated. We also live in NJ, close to Philadelphia, and most of the Tri-State area here is usually really good with most cell providers, so maybe that could be partially why we're having good luck with the U11 on vzw? I dunno, just a thought...
