relocking the bootloader - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Hi! Last summer I bought a brand new Xperia XZ, before that i've had an Xperia Z1c. That Xperia Z1c had custom rom with new kernel and mods installed all over it, it worked perfectly. But now, after a few months, i got bored of Sony's stock rom, its buggy and below 5% I CANNOT use my phone because it gets insanely laggy. I decided that I want to flash roms on my new phone, but I got a problem. I don't want to lose my warranty. I was thinking of :
1.unlocking the bootloader, rooting, back up drm keys/TA partition, and flashing recovery, c.roms
and when something is wrong
2. reflash stock ftf with flashtool and restore the DRM keys/TA partition
I just wanted to ask that will it work? Or i need to wait for my warranty to expire. Thank y'all!
(sorry if i have some mistakes, i'm Hungarian.)

[Q] UnRooting and Roms

I was just wondering if I were to UnRoot my phone...would my custom rom disappear or would I eff up the phone real bad? Vibrant US btw.
in sony ericsson's case
for my phone, all i do is go through Sony Ericsson Update Service on the computer, and everything flashes back to stock.
What would happen would depend on what phone you have, I guess... For some HTC phones, if you S-Off, perhaps a custom ROM may still give you root, but if I understand it right, you can't make changes stick to the system partition.
To really remove root, I think you'll have to revert to stock.

u will b able to unroot ur rom by "z4root"..
but u will loose access to system files and other customization..
ur rom will b similar to the stock rom..
but if unrooting is what u intend to do then i would suggest that u restore nandroid backup (or go back to stock rom somehow) then install "z4root" and then unroot it..

[Xperia J] Hi! Noob here!

Hi , I just get Xperia J and I'm noob on Xperia J forum. I searched all day and I didn't find the best way to root phone,to unlock bootloader- i have 13w04 code,is it ok to unlock bootloader, and please post all links. And yes one thing I need is what is the best rom ,can be also custom for Xperia J,post link?
Thank you ! It's hard when you know all things about xda x8 thread and then you get new phone and I'm noob again :good:
Info:
ST26i
4.0.4
11.0.A.7.5
Is it safe to root and unlock bootloader with flashtool,on x8 I did all things with flashtool ??? There's no drivers for xperia j for flashtool! I'm really scared,I don't want to get hard brick
Unlock bootloader via sony site, root with unlockroot.com, make sure you DL the unlockRoot Pro version, you don't need to buy it, just DL it.Run it afterwards, go next on everything but the adware it tells you to install, just press cancel on that(toolbars and such). After it is installed connect your device with debugging on, launch unlockroot, and click root, select your device, let the app do its magic, afterwards you'll get a popup about a powersaver app, press no, and on the next screen it will ask you to reboot your phone, reboot it and you're rooted.
Flashtool here is used only for reflashing stock fw when you mess up/reflashing kernels. It doesn't play a that much important role.

Thanks man! What about custom roms are better then stock? On x8 custom roms was better then stock. But on xperia J stock rom is great! I buy phone yesterday and I have 50%,they say to me that I must to use phone until battery die,I listen to music, call ,wifi,fb,temple run 2... After one day I get 1% and I left phone,I didn't using it,after 30 minutes my phone have 2% . Now it's still have 2%. I can't wait that my battery die,I'll charge phone to 100% and I'll root my phone, maybe soon I'll unlock bootloader
CM is the only available ROM atm for J if i'm not mistaken, but before you flash the one from the FXP topic, please try adfad666's CAF kernel one.If it works as it should, you could get the ball rolling and get better kernels for the J, and if later possible ,all devices. It is also CM.I have a Tipo atm, but CM has a huge effect on the battery(lower standby time, etc)
To be honest, I only use it cause it has a working DSPManager and I can't DSP to work on a stock ROM.
I forgot to mention this before, just before you unlock bootloader, type this in dialpad:
*#*#7378423#*#*
Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with unlocking bootloader. If it's no/it's not there, you cannot unlock and do not attempt to unlock.

I'll stay on stock rom then,I'll just root phone and delete all unused apps from system Because battery time is very, very, very good!:good:
One question: If I unlock bootloader, will be phone faster or what? Do I need to flash custom kernels..?
If you unlock the bootloader, all your data on phone(not on memory card) will be erased, so make sure you backup what you have. After that you will be able to flash custom kernels and such.I recommend unlocking bootloader and flashing Rachit Rawat's Vengeance kernel in the original android development section, for J.Try 1.33 in the mediafire folder, I see it's only for J.Flash kernel via fastboot with flashtool.Once you flash that kernel, you can also root it with one of the available zips in the thread's 1st post, I recommend SuperSU.
It has a OC to 1.3ghz, which reported by a handful of users so far, makes the J lagfree.

If I'll flash one of this kernel, what will be diferent?
The thread says what the kernel features, most important the OC function.Don't worry, it's tested and it's stable on the J.
Try 1.33 from the link in the 2nd post.

Ok,thank you very much for helping me! What about if I want to get back stock kernel, can you send me working one link?
And can I root and unlock botloader on 11.0.a.7.5???
There is no need for custom roms at the moment. We need to wait till developers make some good rom.
Unlocking the bootloader is just adding the permisson to flash custom roms which have nothing to do with stock rom or custom kernels. Will not affect your phone. You should just root it.
If you are not satisfied with the performance of your phone then flash custom kernel. But they are not complete or stable yet.
But you really need to root it to delete unused apps, install custom roms which are stock rom mods (for both bootloaders), install some apps, mods.
Once you flash the new kernel you can root with one of the zips in the thread.Yes, that fw is rootable.Just flash kernel and use one of the zips.I'm recommending the kernel hard because it is THAT good. For the stock kernel, I don't have it as it is in the stock FW.Let me DL it and I'll upload the stock for you.

Okey Because I have x8 before and without unlocked bootloader stock rom was crap!
Can I root phone firmware 11.0.a.7.5???
Stock FW is rootable as I mentioned before with unlockroot.com's UnlockRoot Pro, which you can DL for free, just press Download instead of buy now.Install it, cancel on the adware stuff, launch it, connect device with debugging on, and you're good to go.

Stock rom is still crap, just there is nothing better at the moment.
Developers working on it...Till then wait.
We can now only mod Stock rom to make it better.
Or use incomplete versions of stock rom which have serious bugs and are worse than stock.
Okey I root phone and unlock bootloader. I want to ask if I flash cstom kernel, can I use it on stock rom? Or custom kernels are just for cm roms?

[Q] EZ-Unlock, safe or not?

Hello eveyone,
Well, I currently possess a Sony Xperia E C1505, running 11.3.A..13. After a month it began to lag like hell, apps were autoclosing and go on... So I decided to root it, and it didn't work. Long story short; I rooted it and I wanted to unlock my bootloader to put a custom rom on it, and... my phone got in a bootloop! (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2445484) I recovered my phone, so that isn't my problem. My problem is that I want to unlock my bootloader in a safe way, because I don't want to go through the hassle of recovering my phone again!!!
So my question is: will the EZ-Unlock tool(http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/) cause damage to my device, if unlocking the bootloader fails? I know that it was originally made for the S3, but I read that it is also possible to unlock other devices with it. And if it won't work, can you guys recommend me another app/simple tool? I already used the BLU button in Flashtool, and bricked my phone, so I'm a bit scared to use it again.
Sorry if my story is hard to understand...

It only works for phones made before August 2012 , I'm pretty sure Xperia E was made after that date meaning the boot.img flashed by EZ-Unlock is not Compatible with Xperia E, The hassle-full way is safer

You're definitely right! The E comes from November 2012. So it has to be the hassle way...
Luckily I now know how to fix it, so that's one advantage
I'll try it out tomorrow, and we'll see!
Thanks for your fast reply!

Hello guys,
I have another question; if my phone got in a bootloop the first time I unlocked my bootloader, how can I be sure it won't happen again?
Because I really don't want to have my phone stuck in a bootloop again... I can tell you one thing: that sucked!
Please don't see me as a noob, who doesn't know what he is doing, because I know what to do when you get stuck in a bootloop. It's just that I really hate to do it again!

Will there be more roms, mods, soon?

I bought the z3 hoping to also have good development like the z2.
I know the device is quite new, can anyone tell me how long it took for the z2 to get much development?
Or is there any reason the z3 will not get as good development?
Thank you all in advance.
Some say it's the bootloader (DRM thing) but you can root without unlocking the bootloader and backup DRM keys.
It could also be that there are some more bugs to be cleaned from CM12 as most ROMs are based off of it, but as I have seen, all CM12 ROMs seem functional.
Perhaps it's not a popular device amongst developers, there isn't CWM or TWRP for any CM based ROM. Only Cyanogen recovery is built into the CM kernel.
I hope there will be more ROMs in development! Like AOKP, Dirty Unicorns and more others. It seems quite empty at the moment.
@Aronuser You just need to have some patience. I guess there will be also a good support but we will see, no one can really say it and how you said the device is actually new.
@squabbi what do you mean with bootloader thing? If I remember right in the past it was always the same: unlocking the BL -> loose DRM keys..
But there is already the chance to root without unlocking the BL and then to do a TA-Backup(in which the DRM keys are included).. so I do not really understand what you mean with it

You can root without unlocking the boot, but then there is no need to backup TA keys
If you then unlock the boot it is advisable to backup the DRM keys, but you cannot restore them whilst the boot is unlocked as restoring them automatically relocks your boot.
SO if you want CM or other AOSP roms then you have to lose the DRM keys. Restoring them will mean you can only boot a stock sony rom

Yeah that's more or less what I wanted to say, may I didn't wrote it as well. But that's nothing new and was minimum since the Z series launched by SONY a "problem".
But if he thought about this then(or than?) I might didn't understand it as he wanted to say it.

Seeking a broad overview

I've only had the Z5 for 24 hours.
I've had several other Android phone though. So I've got some experience in rooting and installing customer roms.
I just kind of want to get a big picture of what to expect with this phone.
i think i understand but would someone confirm or deny:
The bootloader can be unlocked, but to actually root the phone, a customer kernel has to be installed?

At this time yes.
Sent from my Xperia™ Z5 using Tapatalk
Need to unlock the bootloader to do anything to this phone, either root and/or rom it. The unlocked bootloader results in some lost functionality which is restorable via DRM restore, a zip you can flash with custom recovery.
I did this last week and haven't regretted it, the romaur and aur kernel have significantly improved my battery life, and seem to be mostly bugfree.
The process is more complicated than doing the same on Samsung phone.
Actually, same member that created the DRM spoof, tobias.waldvogel, has released a script that allows you to modify your stock kernel to be able to make modifications to the system by bypassing dm-verity and sony ric. So, as I've come to understand it you can use that method and retain stock kernel, albeit there are some exciting development on the kernel side
Yep custom aur kernel is an improvement over stock
