Hello there,
I am using stock EMUI 9 for few weeks. I just recently noticed there is missing option for image stabilization for video. On EMUI 8 it was available for 720p and for [email protected] as well. Now it's gone.
Could someone confirm it is enabled by default now? Did someone make a comparison?
I think you are right and the stabilisation is enabled by default. I tried a quick comparison and you can clearly see it on display how it struggles in low light conditions.

I've had this phone for 9 months now (sony xperia Z3) and it's possible that it's always done this and I haven't noticed it but today when I started recording a video, I noticed that it zoomed in a bit before it started recording.
It only seems to do this when in "Superior Auto" mode. If I switch to 4k recording, it doesn't zoom.
I'm wondering if this started with an android update (perhaps to Lollipop or something) because I'm sure I would've seen it before. Or perhaps it's a setting that I've inadvertently changed. In any case, I'd like for it to not zoom when I start recording. Anyone else seen this? Anyone know a way to change it?
That's probably SteadyShot doing it's thing.
can I disable that?

sweet thanks.
I recently switched to the Mate 9 from the Nexus 6P, whose HDR camera mode that I loved. I am finding that the Mate 9's HDR mode versus the auto camera mode show little to no difference in the image. I have to be doing something wrong, but I don't know what. I accidentally stumbled upon the screen double tap method to get a highlights icon and also the screen long press method of getting an exposure compensation slider, but neither of these are achieving the results I am used to. Can anyone explain how to properly use the Mate 9's HDR mode? Thanks.
There is no specific HDR settings, infact all Huawei phones till now lack HDR function.
Wrong post, please ignore
I did some searches so I hope this has not been covered yet... but I am new to the pixel phones and I have heard how great they are... so I was excited to take some pictures of my kids and my cousin.. however most of them came out blurry... I thought maybe the skin that came on the phone may have been interfering but after removing it saw the same issue... so after doing some digging.
I found that the HDR mode slows the shutter speed and can cause action shots to suffer... so i've been turning off HDR mode... but I noticed that it always defaults to HDR Auto when i go into the camera app and I did not see a setting to turn this off...
QUESTION: Is there a way to change the default camera mode on the stock pixel camera app?
Thank you!

Very simple. Click on that hdr+ auto sign and choose hdr off after expansion
It's a stupid decision made by Google to make it default to HDR auto on the Pixel 1 phones. The nexus phones and as far as I know the Pixel 2 generation do not have this behavior. Do not know of any mods which have bit through this problem either.

could you explain this in more detail? thanks!
I turn off hdr+ and it stays off for me.
using arnovas gcam mod but iirc this was the behavior on stock.
so i wonder if that mod helps keep the changes.. mine still continues to default to HDR + Auto each time I go back into the camera..

My completely stock Pixel XL does this.

Same happens with the NightEnabled_GoogleCamera_6.1.013_cstark27.apk.
You can turn HDR off but when the app restarts the setting is AUTO.
This must be controlled by the phone I assume, not the app itself.
Has anyone fixed this?
Hi I am not aware whether you all are facing this issue. Portrait mode on Miui 10 Pie automatically uses the Telephoto, or the secondary lens by default and there is no way to change this. As a result the viewfinder automatically zooms the photo 1.5 to 2x and it becomes literally a mess of a portrait photo. I am wondering why is no one raising this issue. The camera sucks now. Does anyone have a workaround??
Has anyone else also noticed photos come out with weird, massively boosted brightness and everything when taken with 2x zoom or higher on stock camera? Strange thing is even at 1.9x zoom everything is fine but 2x and beyond the photo is basically ruined because of this. Very annoying.
HDR and other enhancements are turned off, yet this occurs.
Doesn't happen on GCam. Any idea/solutions? Thanks
Tried here. No issue. And 2x zoom photo from stock cam was better than GCam 8.3 for me.
Didi you activate HDR and IA options in stock cam?
Yes they're all deactivated. No problem upto 1.9x zoom, but as soon as 2x zoom is engaged, there's a sudden although small change on viewfinder white balance. And final photos look extremely bright and noisy compared to 1.9x and below, as if some weird filter is put on. I've downgraded the camera but still happens.
Btw, bootloader is unlocked, not sure if that's got anything to do with it.
Its interesting if you don't have this problem. What's ur software channel and build number? Thanks
Without this bug, you'll generally get better zoomed images on stock camera because it'll use 64mp crop instead of only 16mp recognized by GCam. But this bug ruins it.
Unzoomed though, GCam's HDR+ is still the best.
Just discovered this thread.
Yes, I have the same problem. But it looks like the effect is not the same everytime. Maybe depending on light (indoors vs. outdoors)?
I noticed it happens when i zoom in in worse scenes. It could be that the automatic camera mode is overcompensating by cranking the iso way too high. Have you tried using the pro camera mode?

Yes, but I don't think pro mode uses 64mp crop like auto mode, just a crop of 16mp, which doesn't have much detail that's required during zoom. Also it's annoying trying to switch to pro mode everytime.
