Hello,
is it possible to have a working KitKat rom on S7\S7Edge ?
Marshmallow is such a pain with some apps, and still so many bugs to me.
Don't kill me, I'm just asking

But why would you even want to install old software on a new phone? Just buy a Samsung Galaxy s4 for that.

I know someone will ask.....
i was happy on my S5, but S7 take photo far better and more faster for example.. and more powerfull btw ecc.ecc.
but kitkat is fully supported and customized, like lbe , xposed, led notif, fingerprints, greenify, amplify, etc. on this 6.0.1 (for now) all those things do not works or works not well.
Im just asking as temporaly measure till 6.0.1 will be perfect..or 7 at this point.,
kitkat was the last stable and working for me of the android family, lollipop was a mess..marshmallow is a bit better but not perfect yet.

Well, then you will have to kindly ask a developer to do this, if he or she is even willing to sacrifice their free time to this. So, unless a dev doesn't agree to build such rom, it is not going to happen, which will most likely be the case.
I too would like this, for two reasons in particular. I find the "old" jellybean GUI much more comfortable and user friendly to use, and with more possibilities for tweaking and modifications (currently to this date). The second reason, after installing Marshmallow on my old S4 it became much slower and "heavy" in every interactive way. Had to stay on kitkat. I would image the same way around with the S7, in that it would be much faster and more editable with an older Android version.
See , im not that insane ^__^; .. Kitkat with Amoled expecially was good all in dark black way... with LP and MM it's just a mess of light everywhere; ok dark themes are avaible and we can use xposed to change a lot.. but its not the same thing. Plus some apps starting to refuse to work if root\xposed found like snapchat :| Im fighting with Doze\Led blinking ecc for example.. and notification... better than LP but still a mess compared to KK. And i love to have LBE still not working on MM SD card still not avaible on all apps, u have to works a lot to flash so many zip from recovery ecc....Plus right, KK on this hardware will rocks even downclocking heavly and battery will last so longer.

This will not happen.
KitKat does not have all the APIs to take full advantage and optimizations for 64bit HW. Oh and also the bootloader and boot images changed a lot since 4.4. It is better to give up your hopes.
I stumbled accross your thread here doing some searching.
I am interested in buying the S7 Edge.
However, I really hate Lollipop and MM. I hate touchwiz, knox bootloader, even selinux.
If I could run kitkat 4.4.2 on the S7 edge, I would buy one.
Sticking with the oppo find 7 running modified color os kitkat 4.4.2 and Xposed framework.. May even buy another one once I wear this one out.
I realise this is probably a bit of a controversial question to ask on XDA, however has anyone else just stuck with the stock Cyanogen OS on their OnePlus One?
I was thinking today when reading about Lineage OS I have pretty much kept my OnePlus One stock since i got it in July 2014, out the box Cyanogen OS had everything i'd otherwise flash a custom rom for. I did try some early Marshmallow roms around February last year, however due to various bugs I went back to stock and waited for the Marshmallow OTA.
These days i'd certainly take stability over having the latest and greatest version of Android. Of course I don't intend that as any disrespect to the developers on here, more than anything I think I just got tired of tinkering with my phone and have enjoyed just using it.
However I do plan on flashing Lineage OS in the future, which seems quite strange after not flashing a custom rom for almost a year.
It's great to see XDA is still going strong, even more so that the OnePlus currently has the most users of unofficial installs of Lineage OS :good:
My father does have the official builds hahahah we both have the opo but he's okay if it works, so keeping it simple is the best way for him.
As far as Cyanogen OS goes
It's bad and bloated
I tried to stay on it, and did for a bit when security updates were being applied
But had a bunch of reboots and overheating issues. Had to dump it.
Was on stock COS till today since i couldnt find a rom that suited my needs and passed safetynet. Today i flashed lineage OS official, everything is smooth and it passes safety net (i can now use my banking app while running nougat). So yeah today is the day i left COS and marshmallow
I don't even know why I'm still on official CyanOS. The screen time is dreadful. I think I'll give LOS a chance in the near future. It can't be any worse than 3-4 hours of screen time, what I'm getting now with official COS.
Cyanogen may be sold in the future and they can push harmful updates to your device, so I'd say updating is a very good choice.
I am keeping it. I would love that someone could recommend me a 6.0 rom alternative though, because can't switch to Nougat. MM has xposed and i need youtube background playback.
I do sometimes think maybe I should have stayed stock but then I think of all the fun I've had
Now I need my phone to work for calls and alarms as a minimum so take less risks now
I'm still on marsh 2.0 from way back last august
i would but cyanogen 13.1 has a problem with the mobile network.........

You can try Lucky Patcher. They have a custom patch for YouTube background playback. Works on Nougat. Hope this helps
For anyone who wants the best stable experience, I'd suggest sultanxda's CM13 ROM. May it be for girlfriends, dad's, whoever. That ROM will never fall behind.
Cheers.
Well I am still sticking with rooted cyanogen os. I have color camera, viper4android, Sony Media Apps like Walkman and xposed.
Can anyone enlighten me whether noughat build supports viper4android and a good camera mod like color os or cameranext mod? If so I don't mind installing it immediately..
I'm still on stock ROM, because I'm using NFC payments on the tube. Battery life with screen on is dreadful. I would upgrade in a heartbeat should there be any ROM that's signed by Google. Is there any hope to get that ?
My story sounds a lot like the OP. I got my OPO as soon as the invites started going out (I had signed up long before release) and I just couldn't wait to get it and start rooting and TWRPing and ROMing. I tried just about every ROM that was out there including OOS. But, as is often the case with enthusiast ROMS, there always seemed to be some little something somewhere that didn't quite work right. I also had terrible problems with the radios on almost all ROMs including the stock ROM. That got corrected during the second or third update though.
I have a lot of smartphones, so eventually, I moved onto other phones and other tinkering. Then one day, not too long ago, I wondered what it would be like to restore my OPO back to factory stock - no root; reset the tamper bit - and update to the latest official update - so I did.
I have to say that the OPO has never been as stable and reliable as it is in that condition. Best radio reception since I got the phone, silky smooth Android experience (even on two year old hardware), and rarely any crashes or FCs. Truly a STABLE phone.
But even as good as it is running now, I still worry about not getting any future updates and in particular security patches, so I will be looking to flash a good stable build of Lineage OS after reading up on other users' experiences.
Still have to say though that through all of my phones (Galaxy's, Lumias, iPhones, and everything in between), I'd still put my OPO up there with my trusted iPhone 6S for reliability and the "It Just Works" factor.
Hi! I'm running COS, the latest update i received via OTA. I'll wait for a stable build for Nougat, also, there are some xposed modules I cannot live without so i guess i wait for a little bit.

There's an unofficial Lineage OS 13 for our bacon, here in XDA. Stable no issues and xposed compatible
Hello everybody !
I recently got an XZ (over a Nokia 8)*, and I'm looking around for bl unlock. I see that, when you unlock it, it kills the drm used by the phone.
But I saw that there is two possible way to repair them : drmfix or backup TA.
The "problem" with TA backup is that I need to downgrade to MM. Right now, my XZ is under Oreo, and honestly I'm not very motivated by downgrading.
So my question is : Is drmfix really efficient ? Knowing that I'm running the latest security patch (may 2018).
Thank you all
* The XZ is very nice compared to N8. Even if its a bit less powerful, I don't regret the purchase !
Drmfix works, but you still should backup your TA partition just in case you need to send the phone for warranty.
Also, flashing MM is a short procedure, not a big deal if you have a data backup. And last but not least, MM works significantly better both for performance and battery duration
Enjoy

I think everytine OS gets upgraded, phones tend to go slow and Laggy.
It doesn't matter what phone that is.
Because, OS these days are very power hungry.
We always upgrade software but hardware is still the same and lags behind.

Mhh i dont totaly agree. I use to have an LG3 and even if the support drops after MM, it was still possible to install Nougat via CM (then Los) and maybe Oreo is available (didnt check). And as far as i remember, the phone was working very well. I agree that its not official but still
But there is of cours limits... I don't se a Galaxy S runing oreo
But afterall, i suppose it vastely depend on how de are optimizing their os ? Idk, just personal thought not being a dev

I don't have evidence, but I think it might be planned obsolescence. I didn't notice lagging with my P10 (Huawei) when Nougat to Oreo update was released. But XZ the lags are evident, without valid reasons (cores and memory are more than enough with this device to run Oreo without a hitch, even with the slower emmc it has).

Yeah indeed, maybe, idk ahah but honestly, i got it for two days now and im very happy. More than my Nokia 8 (especialy for sound, camera and form factor).
And far easier to play with root and stuff (N8, you ça not officialy unlock bl)
But yeah, the XZ was a bit laggy during the few first hours. Now, its perfect. But i got to admit that its bit less snappy than the N8 (835)
Hey there!
My U11 always records laggy video when high-res audio is enabled.
I thought it was because of my SD card (128 GB Samsung Pro EVO whatever...) but problem persits when using the internal storage.
I always use FHD 60 fps.
Videos with 3D audio are lag-free.
It is a german retail 64 GB dual sim device and I'm on 7.1.1 Stock rom.
Any ideas or has anyone noticed the same?
Regards
Update to Oreo perform a factory reset and always use internal storage. I never had this sort of problem but by the time I got my U11 it had already received Oreo so I updated it instantly. This should do the trick
I didn't update to Oreo because of the many problems and bugs quite alot of users have with their U11 on 8.0...
Hopefully the update to Pie is not far away...
I dared to update to Oreo, finally. and that lag is gone now.
Those major problems some users reported do not occur on my device. Did a RUU flash and clean install from scratch (no restore actions or so).

Which ones? I have been on Oreo since January without any bug ...
Many! To many to mention them all...
I read about it in several threads here on XDA, in german forums and on YouTube.
So I decided to stay on Nougat. Until now...^^
Many users did dirty flash the OTAs and I guess that is never a good idea when it's about a big update...
That's why I went the other way...:good:
Anyone else noticed the August Pie update feels alot more smoother than before? (Stock rooted)

This right here. I had the sound issue on P where the sound would randomly switch from clear to bassy/muffled ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/how-to/semi-perm-fix-patch-random-sound-change-t3919626 ) , so I said enough since it's going to be almost a year, and Google still can't figure out how to fix it (and probably won't since Q is so close to release), so I went to QB6. P was 99.9% perfect for me. Just the sound issue I mentioned. It was buttery smooth, and worked flawlessly. Well being on QB6 for a full day, and using the phone for well over 12 hours, I can say QB6 makes P feel like Android version 5 or lower. Not only does it work flawlessly, but it's even smoother, better battery, better looks, and just overall a better OS. I feel like I just got a new phone.
Its loads better, sleep mode is better, although it takes a bit longer for the phone to fully wake up, and battery is excellent.
Guys, 2 days after the latest August security update my device can't connect to mobile internet. I have already declared it as connectivity interruption issue to my provider, but I was curious to know if someone else is dealing with the same weird problem. I already tried to reset network settings without further success. I could try to factory reset it as a last effort to solve this problem, but somehow I doubt that it will eventually help. Stock device, unmodified.
