Allshare Dongle & HDMI Converter

Probably a bit of a stretch here but if anyone can help I'm sure it's the XDA community.
I have the AllShare Cast Dongle and it works fantastic. Use it with HDMI connection regularly, also use an HDMI to VGA Adapater. I purchased an HDMI to composite adaptor but can't get that to work.
http://www.amazon.com/Sanoxy-HDMI-C...qid=1350066401&sr=1-1&keywords=hdmi+composite
I've done some searching and have found people with AppleTV and have also used the adapter with my laptop, so I know it works. The problem though is that it seems the AllShare Cast Dongle doesn't turn on when it's plugged into this device.
I can get the tablet to connect momentarily but it always disconnects and the device turns off. Anyone used something with the AllShare Cast Dongle to convert the HDMI to composite? Could you share what it is?
Any suggestions on why this setup might not be working?
Can you please confirm the model number of your allshare cast dongle?

HDMI to VGA works fine. OP states that and that the problem is using the dongle with an HDMI to composite adaptor.
What HDMI to VGA adapter are you using? I can't get mine to work, but it works fine if I plug the HDMI.directly into a TV.

allshare cast dongle
when you use the allshare cast dongle the phone gets hot??? I need to know because i want one of this dongles, because when using the mhl adapter the phone gets hot.
I wonder if the dongle need to handshake with the TV HDMI port, if you are using a VGA adapter it wont be able to do this which is why you get a picture for a moment then lose it?. The allshare case Dongle isnt meant to be used that way so I'm not too surprised it doesn't work.

I've never experienced my tab getting hot from using the allshare cast dongle.
Might be getting hot because of the power drain through the wired connector, but the allshare cast dongle uses wireless connection. If your tab/phone doesn't get hot using wifi then it won't using dongle....

Any HDMI adapter for 6P?

hi,
Can 6P output video over USB-C?
Can generic USB C-type cable to HDMI be used?
Any other specific for 6P adapter can be used for HDMI wired output?
No, I don't need / want chromecast or miracast or etc wi-fi streaming.
thanks.

For the Pixel chromebook.
The 6P supports WiFi Direct, so I would suggest you go that route if at all possible. You may need to get a Miracast dongle for your flat panel display of projector.

During the reddit AMA they said it would not output hdmi. I also didn't think about this when ordering (i have an appradio hu as well)

I think because it's still USB 2.0 that it can't output via HDMI. On another note don't waste your time with a miracast dongle. I'm pretty sure Google dropped support for that to exclusively use Chromecast. IMHO I feel it's leaps and bounds better than miracast anyway and you can still mirror your phone

HDMI works just fine over USB2, it's MHL or SlimPort that extracts video/audio from phone microUSB port. I don't know details how it works, but that I use for my S3 with MHL adapter to feed HDMI input.
The specs say specifically WiFi Direct, which is what Miracast uses as the transport, so Miracast should work. It works well with my Nexus 7, and the Nexus 4, 5 and 10 work as well. The Motorola Nexus 6 did not support WiFi Direct. If Chromecast supports mirroring to the USB port of a flat panel or projector to display the output of the phone or tablet screen for PowerPoint, AutoCAD, etc, then great. At least in the past, that was not the case.

thats... not how chromecast works. receiving device needs something (chromecast, roku, fire stick) that supports the chromecast protocol (cast method). from there, you can mirror (cast) your device screen or chrome tab.
as far as using a miracast dongle goes, i believe it's the same principle as chromecast. you won't get display through the USB port of your device. the dongle has to connect through some video throughput (usually HDMI). most (if not all) display-only devices do not have the capability to accept display through a USB port.
I don't understand why it doesn't support hdmi output. The s6 doesn't either. I don't want use chromecast because i use my unlimited data plan to stream movies. That's only thing i'm jelly of the iphone right now.

what does having UDP and steaming movies have to do with CC? are you saying you want to steam movies from your phone to your device? there are apps that do this, including ES File Manager. if you're traveling, you'll need two devices to set up the CC to use your hotspot, but short of that, CC should work great for your needs.
everyone has different use case
for me I need that phone output video over HDMI input of my car radio (Appradio)
and I'd like to have it over cable
in my case streaming over wi-fi comes with annoying latency - that's delay between car touchscreen action and video display as reaction
for me it isn't about movie streaming, but GPS and other car related apps

This.
I thought I could live without root and ARUnchained so that Android Pay would work easily, and just get by with screen mirroring without touch interface on the head unit. Since Marshmallow, I haven't rooted and I've just been mirroring my N5 through SlimPort. I don't know that I can get by like this after being so used to full interface. And I imagine that the lag on Chromecast would be highly annoying. I'm quite disappointed there is no HDMI output on 6P, but I'm getting it anyway.

Oops, you are right. I said USB, but meant HDMI. For my Actiontec dongle, you use the USB port to power it, but the HDMI port for the video / audio.
I'll be honest... I see almost no lag Casting my N5 screen of a 1080p Youtube clip to Chromecast 2.
It actually surprised the hell out of me that the quality of the cast was much better than choosing the same video through the YouTube app for Chromecast

I use the 6P via miracast to my AppRadio and the lag is non existant. The Nexus 5 struggled a bit but the 6P doesn't. This is using a Microsoft Wireless adapter.
Assuming you have supported the ARU developer, then join the Alpha group and he has a version that automates the connection process for Miracast / Chromecast. I have also posted in the ARUR thread how to get the screen to dim down to nothing.

Mainly because TV technology has moved on and the technology to stream is in most of those now. Very few phones will support MHL or Slimport going forwards, if any at all within a year.
I would not have bought the Nexus 6P if I'd known that it did not support HDMI out. No doubt about it.

Thanks, going to cry now.. no more emulators with HDMI on TV :*( I will just find a software solution
Well, it might not have an HDMI out socket, but I believe the USB socket is certified for MHL 3.0:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-z5-dual/specifications/
Obviously you need an MHL adapter and they usually (always?) require an external USB power source. But, given all that, you should be ok to push your display to a TV via HDMI.

Good response and you are correct. I may have misunderstood the inquiry. I thought the op was asking if the Z5 had a direct HDMI port like the Xperia Arc.
Oh no I was wondering if it was HDMI capable I will buy an MHL adapter. Thanks guys.

Obviously no integrated mini-hdmi port on the device. Me thinks the bandwidth, complex data transport (video + sound) plus dcma characteristics of a modern hdmi interface can not be emulated via OTG (usb port). So I'll wager a semi-educated guess - NO.
Read somewhere the device supports miracast and/or chromecast but haven't dabbled with those directly.

I tried with a mhl cable, which is micro usb like the charging cable and must be connected via normal hdmi to tv and via usb to some sort of powersorce
Chromecast Mirroring works with fireOS 5.3.1. though the resolution is pretty bad.. mirroring is not working with the latest cm12.1 rom. Others reported it worked with an older build of cm12.1 but couldn't find out which built that was and where to get it.

it does not connect to a normal HDMI port, it must be an MHL compatible HDMI port on the back of the display. Usually the letters MHL will be above the specified port.

I have a Xperia Z5 and hdmi via hdml works fine with the same cable and port...
The MHL port has the same form as an HDMI port, but it isn't HDMI. HDMI is High-Definition Multimedia Interface, a standard connector included on most new TVs, which allows for uncompressed high-definition digital video and multi-channel audio via a single cable. MHL also allows for the same quality of video and audio input, and uses the same physical end-connector, but it's a different technology that uses five wires or pins to transmit high-def video and audio from a device to your TV while at the same time sending power back to the device.

As previously noted there is no evidence the 5th gen Fire will support MHL due to kernel (and possibly hardware/hardwire) restrictions. I would be shocked of Amazon baked in that capability. Hope I'm wrong ....

You can use TeamViewer app on your Fire tablet to mirror through PC and mobile. But no capturing audio in TeamViewer, it's only in tablet speaker. You want to using Bluetooth speaker.
Just to contribute, I tried a very cheap and simple looking microUSB to HDMI cable (probably not even MHL, no option to add a power source)
and I can't see any communication between the Fire 7 (5th generation) tablet and my non-smart TV.
Same results when I tried with AmazonOS, and with LineageOS 12.1 recently.
Maybe it would work if there was a way to provide more power to the cable?
However, this cheap cable does not give that option.
And connecting the microUSB part of the cable to the Fire tablet
means that I cannot charge it at the same time.
If I could figure out how to charge the tablet at the same time,
maybe the TV would receive a signal from the cable?
I also tried this cable with my android phone and again, nothing.
Maybe it's the cheap cable. Maybe it's not compatible with anything I own.
My non-smart TV does not seem to have internet capabilities either
but does have USB ports (I have a USB wifi antenna but I doubt the TV has the software to be able to do anything with it).

The lag is much smaller than the lag you get from casting the screen via WiFi to a Chromecast. But I'm not a gamer and I have to warn you. The adapter uses a lot of power and will drain you battery fast. If your battery is full before it will be nearly empty after 30-45min. This adapter is only a good thing if you want to show a short video or some photos nearly lag-free and in higher quality that via Chromecast on your TV.
Sony has invented a feature and included it in the Xperia 1 II to work around the battery drain problem while gaming:
"Xperia 1 II’s Heat Suppression feature bypasses battery charging to maximise gaming performance" https://www.xda-developers.com/sony...t-degrading-battery-health-h-s-power-control/
