I have Mx player pro. Just got a new phone (Xiaomi mix 2s) and I don't get video output (just audio and a black screen).
I reinstalled the app, tried sw / hw / hw+ decoder, no difference.
On the Xiaomi forum other users have no issues.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Ignore... Video output was disabled (by default?!) in the app.
Solved!

Hello
I recently updated MX Player Pro to 1.8.10 and was also prompted to update the custom codec to 1.8.6 . Not the best decision i ever made as now MKV is virtually unplayable and choppy .
If i open the same files in XBMC on my MINIX Neo U1 everything plays smoothly including large MKV .
I hope this can be fixed . And as its my first post , i'd like to say hello to all of you and to thank you in advance .

Hi and thanks
I managed to get it playing OK again . I had to choose software audio and hardware decoder in settings. Now it's alright.

Basically HW & HW+ will be very smooth if it's supported by your device. SW uses CPU instead of GPU. So, it will be laggy if the processor is not powerful enough.

I personally prefer HW+.
Enable HW+ from Decoder Settings. If you are on Lollipop (5.0) or newer android version, enable Alternative HW+ as well. Most of the time, HW+ works better than anyother decoder.

Thanks both for the tips .
The only problem I sometimes have on my Minix Neo U1 is that when a video plays , unless I choose sw decoder at the top of the video screen I will occasionally get the audio playing very echoed unless sw decoder is used .
The videos play smooth with HW + but audio isn't played right .
Bh ghe wqy , The Minix is a great player and can handle files 8gb plus and also 4k easily.
So not sure why the audio likes sw decoder !
Anything i can try ?
Thanks again .

If it's so, just enable SW audio in decoder settings. It will enable SW for all videos.

Thanks,
I just had a play with the settings and it is actually software audio which causes the echo ... HW decoder all round , seems to be best for me , HW + I noticed a bit of lag .

HW+ audio codecs are experimental. that's why they are disabled by default. Kindly disable it & check again.

I had the same issue on it. Now I got it fixed by re-installing the same. As this came default I think.

Hi,
you still have the following HW+ audio codecs enabled. Goto Settings > Decoder > HW+ Audio Codecs & disable it everything. Or Reset the MX Player settings from Settings > General.
Vorbis
PCM
Opus
MP3
GSM
G711-μ-law
G711-A-law
FLAC
AMR-WB
AMR-NB
AAC
Additional Note: In some Xiaomi devices with MIUI 9, MX Player is getting killed by the system when it runs in the background mode. It happens due to MIUI optimization done by Xiaomi. Open recent app screen, swipe down. Once the lock symbol appears, the system won't kill MX Player unnecessarily.

hi,
I have an Minix U9-H box (android 6.0) and when I play full HD streaming files from my ip tv provider using HW+ decoder, the video quality is poor. It's working fine with HW or SW decoder (The codec used by mx player is ARM V7 NEON).
I checked also in perfect player and when using HW+, it seems the player downgrade the video resolution to SD format.
Any clue ?

It should be a bug in the system decoder. In HW+, MX Player passes the frames to the system decoders to directly decode. Probably, the resolution of the decoded frame might be low. We have encountered a similar issue in the past especially when the stream is interlaced. If it's the root cause, then it has to be fixed on the firmware. You will notice similar issues with all major video player apps which makes use of similar technology.

HW and HW+ uses GPU for H.264 decoding. They performance much better from SW which uses CPU for decoding. HW can perform better than HW+ in most of the Cases, but there is a chance it does not work smoothly on many devices.
Same
Same problem. SW is better than HW and HW+. (Android tv 8.1 - Mibox 3s)

It may happen when the Hardware Accelerated Decoders implemented on the device itself is buggy. Can you please contact us with screenshots of the playback on HW/HW+ and SW along with a bug reported collected from MX right after playing the file? It will help us to confirm the same.
There is no error, just low quality. HW and HW+ is same. SW is good.
The problem only occurs when viewing iptv (multicast - udp), watching the file on the hard disk is ok

It is one of the known issues on Xiaomi's TV boxes with Oreo and Nougat firmware. Based on our past investigation, it has been found that the hardware accelerated decoder's output resolution of the video frames is much lower than the actual frame size. As both HW and HW+ relies on the decoders shipped with the device, you can notice the issues on both. Request you to contact the device manufacturer so that they can fix the same on their firmware.
If it is possible, kindly share a link with us on PM or at [email protected] so that we can also escalate the same from our end.
I also tried on my phone (Mi Mix 2s - Android 9, MIUI 10) and it gave same results.

Can you please try any non-xiaomi device and check again? Can you also check whether it happens if you copy the stream to a file using FFmpeg? Without a sample clip or a link, we may not be able to seek the assistance of the Xiaomi team.

I don't have a non-xiaomi device. These are sample files. I saved them with VLC

Let me guess a bit: The format of the service provider is 1080i, this issue relates to the deinterlacing algorithm. With HW decoder, resolution halved.
maybe recode your video?
Broken H.264 (avc) codec bug!
Problems:
0. Artifacts and ghosting
1. There is a shadow left from the last image onto a black scene that comes after.
2. There is a trailing edge of every lighted scene around the picture.
3. The problem is wide, not only related to single app.
I did notice on Xiaomi devices pixelation on videos.
I have mi box s 4k and chromecast ultra while there is no pixelation for the same video for chromecast ultra I'm getting pixelation issue for mi box s 4k and redmi note 8 pro.
This issue I did notice it for local videos and youtube app (I didn't notice for netflix).
So I did try some methods my self. switching to sw decoding on mx player got pixelation fixed but this isn't precise solution cuz I did read somewhere that hdr is gone for sw decoding and youtube app problem stays.
For Xiaomi devices I did find a video on YouTube. so on mine redmi note 8 pro I did as the video told.
the video did told me to turn on hw overlays so I did turn it on and I got pixelation fixed!!!
youtube .com/watch?v=MGxh2vCmR1E
But for mi box When I turn on disable hw overlays I'm getting no screen I'm only getting audio what could be the cause of this could someone help me to turn this on?
Or is there any other solution how I can fix the pixelation?
Update:
İn mi box s 4k There is no pixelation in apps like netflix!!! but vlc, mx player and chromecast built-in playing local video file is the issue getting pixelation in hw decoder!
imgur. com/a/OO2R8VI
Example:
Hw decoder: imgur. com/US8Xzor
Sw decoder: imgur. com/fUzwKvw
You can see white line in hw decoder.
İn sw decoder the white lines pixelation is fixed.
Update 2:
Someone told me this is a known broken H.264 codec bug! (avc bug, h.264 and x264) I think that person is right! I did encode my video to H.265 and the pixelation was gone!!!
Does someone When did this problem start?
İt is aggravating I hope Xiaomi will fix this problem soon.

Hello,
I have a Realme 9 Pro.
I have a problem playing videos with MX player.
I use MX Player to watch 4k 60 fps video with 100mbits Bitrate.
When I open MX player and choose the HW+ Decoder it tells me it is not supported.
How is it possible that a Realme 9 pro does not support the HW+ decoder?
I need the HW+ decoder to watch videos recorded with the DJI osmo pocket.
With my old Asus zenfone max pro m1 I can use the HW+ decoder and see 4k videos smoothly.
Without HW+ the videos are jerky.

Sometime MX player give this error for particular type of videos, try enabling it for another simple video and see if the issue persists.
HW+ decoder is for network play only.
If supported then this is true
HW+ video Codecs: Individual codecs like H.263 Hardware accelerated, H.264 Hardware Accelerated, H.264 10 bits, H.265 Hardware accelerated, H.265 10 bits, MPEG-4, VP8, and VP9 can be checked and applied for use.
HW+ Audio Codecs: A range of audio codecs like AAC, AMR NB, AMR WB, FLAC, G.711 A-law, G.711 μ-law, GSM, MP3, Opus, PCB, and Vorbis are available for selection.
All those codecs come with MX Player.
I also use HW+ offline on my asus zenfone max pro m1.
In the micro sd I load videos in 4k and i can watch them with HW+.
With the realme 9 pro I can't use hw+, it says not supported
@Ohdude
I tried and hw+ works.
But when I watch a video filmed with DJI osmo pocket it says hw+ not supported.

IMO the issue reported isn't related to MX Player but to the ROM installed on the Realme 9 Pro.
