The camera quality isn't bad, but the stock app is very slow even if you use manual is set a fast shutter speed. I'm pretty sure this is something that can be fixed with a software update.
Is there any non root solution to this? I'm no stranger to root and custom ROMs but I kinda don't wanna do all that just yet because I just got this phone
You can flash the MIUI developer rom to root your device.
And the camera have no problem on my device. They fix this bug in newest version.

The stock camera crashes when I:
-enable RAW
-select slow shutter
-select a shutter speed of 2, 4 or 8s in camera settings
The annoying part is that I have to reboot every time to fix the camera as it seems to be unable to connect again after crashing. Is there any way to fix this without rebooting? There is a play store app but it doesn't work.

Question:
Stock?
Bootloader unlocked?
Rooted?
Custom Rom?
Custom Kernel?
Any tweaks to the device other than stock?
I'm just curious...if stock users are having trouble, or is it just the tweakers?
Have you tried a factory reset? And as above, any mods or running 100% stock?
Rooted with stock rom and stock kernel. Clearing the camera cache doesn't help.
I'll try a factory reset as some users don't seem to have the bug.
I've noticed that too. I've also noticed two more things:
- 4k UHD + RAW = bad time. As soon as I hit record it gives me a black screen, I stop the recording and it freezes. I have to force close the camera app to be able to do anything with it again. Oddly enough, 4k DCI works fine.
- Slow-mo video + RAW = choppy. The video seems to be playing back at a super low frame rate. Everything seems to have a lot more motion blur too.
Using raw any time there is low light results in camera crash as well
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
rooted, with stock everything. after taking 8 sec slow shutter, when saving it lags, then black screen then crash. then when i reopen all the menu still there but black screen. anything i do from there it will just crash.
I have the same problem as the poster above.
Any clue?
The other problems described here were correct with the latest update.
Anyone with anything on this?
Same issue here. Will it be fixed ever?
Yep, this has been a known bug from day 1 bro.
Just to put my 10 cents, same problem here even in Auto mode.
This is the only issue I have with my phone now. Hoping CM12 fixes it.
Hello, in CM12, as says Spectre, camera works well, but is there way, to fix this problem in latest official CM13.1, or Lineage14? Thanks much
edit: well, sorry, in CM12.1 problem still here, seems aka HW problem... overheating?
No working solutions? ((
I just want to let you know I finally made the ROM jump from MaximusHD to CyanogenMod 12.1 and it went superb!
Before starting this I thought I would be busy the whole evening (or more than one) so I prepared for the worst. I still use this phone on a daily basis. I got another HTC oldy as a backup just in case. My HTC One S isn't recognized on my PCs anymore since jumping in the swimming pool with it last summer so I had an extra handicap not being able to upload from PC to device.
I updated TWRP to the latest. Cleared storage. Rebooted in MaximusHD again ignoring the setup wizard as much as possible. Once booted I opened the web browser and downloaded the CM12.1 05DEC Unofficial ROM and TK GApps mini directly to my device. (All links available in the specific thread here on XDA) Booted in recovery again and flashed CM12.1 and TK GApps. All my apps and settings were uploaded/installed when the device booted CM12.1.
After boot all I had to do is change my Mobile 3G APN setting.
After one hour of work I couldn't believe it went so quick! And easy! The experience of CM12.1 on this 3 year old phone is unbelievable. I thought I would experience more lag and slow responses but... none of that. I can't notice any difference in speed comparing with the MaximusHD ROM.
I hope this stimulates others to make the update.

I've been tempted by the idea of jumping the MaximusHD rom ship for a while too. Are you happy with the camera performance? One of the reasons I'm reluctant to go the non-Sense rom way is the lack of the full hardware access to the camera on those roms.
I just jumped the ship three days ago. I didn't use the camera besides taking 3 pictures for test purposes. I'm a long time Camera ZOOM FX user so the app installed itself again. I replaced the CM12 camera app in the drawer with it.
I need more user experience time with the camera to tell you it lacks in any way.
What, besides performance (speed) issues, will affect the camera not being able to have full hardware access?

A couple of things I remember were missing from non-Sense camera apps are the ability to shoot slow motion video (lower res but higher fps) and the HDR mode for photos.
Not that these two produced any usable results though .
I believe the other parameters like photo/video resolution are adjustable with the stock CM camera and ZOOM FX apps, right?

I can't find slow motion video. I never saw it in the MaximusHD ROM either. ZOOM FX cam does have the HDR option, just like with MaximusHD. But seriously, it's nothing more than a gimmick. Do you ever use it?

With stock CM camera I don't see these options. This cam app is really minimal. Some say you need to set resolution by entering the hamburger menu upper-left but I don't have the menu. App version is 2.0.002.
With ZOOM FX Premium all resolutions settings are there.
When booting my phone this morning I noticed that there is still one MaximusHD ROM leftover. I guess it's not really part of the ROM. It's the boot screen. The first screen you see when cold booting your phone. It's a screen with HTC logo and the development warning text in red underneath it. Can I easily get rid of it?

It's not part of the ROM, it's rather a part of the bootloader itself. You can change it by flashing a modified bootloader version:

Just read the thread on how to do that and find the one that fits your HBOOT version.
Coming from MaximusHD my hboot is at version 2.16... I don't see any download for that.
I've been using 20151223 UNOFFICIAL for some time now without the camera/flashlight issue. I've been using the camera more than once during the holidays.
Only trouble I have is getting cellular (3G) back online after flight modus. It's not possible. I have to restart the device every time. Anybody else experiencing this?
No, working great here on 2015-12-23 Unofficial HBOOT 2.16 from Flyer. When going out of plane mode, it takes around 15 seconds to get H icon (for HSDPA, 3G if you prefer). It may be a problem with the SIM card or advanced operator settings.

In link above you can see what kind of issue I have with my camera after latest security update on android Nougat. I tried system repair via PC Companion, but issue still presist. I have this problem over a month, and my patience is running out.
I tested camera firstly afrer software repair, and problem was still there.
Yes, problem is still there in SAFE MODE.
I changed to internal storage, problem is still there.
Even when I try to record video, it's extremely laggy, only way I can record is with front facing camera on HD resoution with steady shot OFF.
I don't wanna downgrade my phone, and starting over with this problems again, I hope that SONY will soon launch new update with this issues fixed.
Does anyone know fix for this issue?
First of all, this is not a general problem, only you faced with this.. so there won't be an update for this.
Try my thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/ftf-e6603-33-53-83-google-drive-patched-t3581463
Follow 1-14 and select all wipe options..
No, he's not. I have exactly the same problem. I tried everything, including flashing FTF from the link above, but the problem is still there.
I think that may be an hardware issue.
There was no issue before latest update. My phone didn't drop or something like that.
I can only record on HD with stabilisation off, and to have decent videos on both, rear and front facing camera. But if I try to record on Full HD with even stabilisation off, that become mission impossible, so much lag in video, even tough audio is ok.
Since updating to android 9 my op6 has had alot of problems with the camera not opening, having to restart the app several Times to get it working again. This happens with both snapchat and the stock camera app. Is there any fix for this? Know issue?
I am running Blu kernel which might affect it aswell
Try google camera 6
It's better than the ****ty stock cam
Or try to install a new version from apkmirror
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/oneplus-ltd/
I'm facing an issue with my camera which I couldn't find anything about via a web search. So I would like to know if anyone experienced something similar?
I'm running the stock rom and didn't tinker with the phone.
Since yesterday my rear camera is really slow an only slowing blurred images. The whole phone seems to be running really slow and unable to handle the data. Switching to the front camera takes ages but once it's active it's working normally.
If I try to use the camera several times I end up with a black preview image. A reboot returns the camera to the previous laggy state.
Changing to a different camera app yields the same behavior. Could be an issue with the latest patch for Android 12 I i installed around the same time or my hardware is fried...

I would try a system reset if possible, I know its a pain but if it works problem solved, You could also try going back to a different build via android flash tool , just a couple of ideas although extreme ,would narrow it down even more to a hardware issue over corrupt software. Hth

I feared that I would have to do this. Factory reset and flashing an older version didn't help.
Now I can hear that something is moving inside when I shake the phone. Time to crack it open and have a look.
Thanks for the suggestions.
