GT-N8010 Weird behaviour! (rebooting, static screen) - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone's experienced this type of oddness before..
First off the tablet doesn't seem to take/hold any charge. It went from holding a few hour's charge directly to this.
When I plug the charger in all I get on the screen is either lines or static. Then it starts to reboot/flash, only showing the lines/static. It never gets to the Samsung logo etc.
If I hold down Power and Volume Up I get nothing. It just boots it up as normal, into the looping static screen. If I use Power and Volume Down it will boot to the odin/download screen (sometimes stable, without the static, sometimes flashing with the static). I've uploaded a small clip of it happening.
If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. I was going to change the battery, and replace the cracked digitizer, and see if that changed anything. I've checked to make sure the power and screen cables were connected properly. They seem to be..

This was solved. I sent it to a an electrical repair shop (they have a listing for boot loop repairs for n8101 on ebay) and it turned out to have a knackered memory chip, which they replaced. Working great now. They stated it was nothing to dow ith the standard boot loop issue.

[Q] RIP to my Sidekick

So today, as i was on my way to work I accidentally held down the lockscreen button and the power menu popped up (I was on Glorious Overdoes V2) in the middle of a text and i pressed reboot accidentally... My phone never rebooted... It was stuck on the black Sidekick 4G/T-Mobile screen and then it would go black, then once again that screen would pop up... I removed the battery and put it back in, and without me pressing any buttons the same screen came back up... I let it sit for a while and after 20minutes nothing changed except the phone got really hot. Luckily I had my OLD Nokia in my car and popped my SIM card in it so that i could continue having a phone. I let The Sidekick sit for 4hours and it was extremely hot and then eventually it just turned off completely (Im assuming the battery drained, it was at 90% 4 hours before.) I got home, plugged it in and it wouldn't even turn on the charging screen. Somebody told me that my Motherboard is fried but I don't know. I called T-mobile and they're going to send me a new phone since it's still in the 1-year warranty period.
Anyone know if they're going to be able to inspect my old device and find out if i rooted/flashed it? because i can't get into it or anything to ODIN
I feel like they will try putting a new battery in it, and if it still wont turn on you should be fine.
It got hot because the CPU was churning over something and couldn't enter a low power state. I bet you could coax the phone into download mode and reflash it.
what do you mean coax the phone into download mode? by using the button combo to get it into download mode when turning on? I've tried that and it doesn't work. I tried rebooting into recovery and that wont work either. Also, it wont charge the battery anymore...
I've always had a hard time getting into download mode, and my phone works fine. I just spent 5 minutes trying different combinations until I got it.
I've heard people say trackpad-power button, volume down-home-power button, volume up/down-put battery in-plug in USB, etc etc etc. But the only method that works for me is to put in the battery, plug in the USB, wait for the charging screen, then hold volume down-trackpad-power, releasing power as soon as the screen goes black
You say your phone is turning on as soon as the battery is inserted? What if you have it plugged into USB first?
I had the exact same problem, I sent it into samsung and they just replaced a part(never told me which one) and it was fixed. I did noticed that when the sccreen was poped open to show the keyboard, it would stop. But it's probably a loose cable like I've read before.

Worst case scenario if you can't figure it out here on XDA, you could always sell it on eBay for parts as defective.

Weird Bootloop/soft brick help?

I'm fixing my friend's phone that she got in a bootloop, it would stay on the logo for about 8 sec. go into a black screen for about 5 sec. then go back to the logo for 8 sec again, and so on and so on. I messed with the phone for a little bit and found out it did the same thing charging, loading/battery icon for 8 sec, black screen 5 sec, etc. So I read up on ODINing it, and I got it on download mode no problem, my computer and ODIN detecting it, but again it only lasted for 8 sec. then it went into the black screen disconnecting it from my computer, then it went into charging mode doing the same thing. If I hold the track button and the - volume button it would stay on download mode, but it would still go to the black screen and keep on repeating the same cycle. I took out the sd card, sim card, and tried a different battery, still the same. Anything that could help me please
i bought a phone real cheap thinking i could fix it, but it was doing the same thing: showing the Samsung logo for a few seconds, then going blank, or going into download mode for a fews seconds, then going blank. if i took the battery out and put it back in, it would automatically start looping like that, without even pressing the power button. there was no way to fix it at all that i could find, and i looked all over. i ended up contacting Samsung and the phone was under warranty, and they fixed it by replacing a component(that's the only explanation i got). somehow something had gone wrong with the hardware i guess.
Edit: there was one thing i tried that was said to possibly fix an issue like this, and it was to unscrew the back housing and go down to the motherboard and check the 3 or so ribbon cables that attach to the board.... and just to make sure that the connections were nice and tight. i did that but it didn't fix it for me.

[Q] Infuse Charging Boot Loop

Hello all,
First, let me preface this by apologizing for my lack of tech savvy. That said, I, like many others, am experiencing a boot loop on my Infuse. I've done a good amount of research on the issue, and most things point to a fault power button. I removed the battery, took the phone apart, wiped down the plastic piece, used compressed air to try to remove dust/dirt/debris/grime etc., put it back together, and the same thing happened.
Right now, the battery seems to be sapped of charge. When I plug a charger in, I get the little load icon, and then I get the battery icon that is usually filled to some extent with green indicating the amount of charge. However, the battery icon now only shows the load icon in it. After about 2 seconds, it goes black, and then just to load icon appears, before switching back to the battery with load icon, and so on and so forth.
I took the cleaning technique one step further and removed the tiny black screws from the circuit board, physically popping it off of it's stand, and then again used compressed air etc., to try to unclog the power button, if in fact this was the case. I also had read that the two little copper tabs near the power button sometimes get a little crushed, and need to be gently pried out, just a tad bit, in order to complete the circuit, so I tried that too, and still get the same issue.
This all started when my phone froze up, as it sometimes does, and restarted in the middle of me using it. However, at that point, the Samsung logo screen just kept popping up, then going black, popping up, going black etc etc. I took out the battery, and as soon as I replaced it, the Samsung logo returned, bringing me to where I am now.
So that said, what else could it be if not the power button? I've heard some suggest that it could perhaps be the SD card (I tried doing these steps with, and without the SD card loaded into the back of the phone), and even some saying that it's a bad battery. My phone has never gotten wet before, confirmed by the moisture tab, but it has sporadically frozen up on me, and sometimes gets very hot, especially when using the GPS and other apps. I haven't downloaded anything recently, and usually when it freezes up, I just hold down the power key until it reboots.
I hope this isn't too repetitive of a question. I haven't updated anything like Jellybean etc onto the phone, so it's all exactly as it was when I first got it from an operating standpoint.
I did a live chat with a Samsung rep, and they tried to have me to do the volume button + power button reset, but I couldn't get out of the loop.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
You are not alone.
I have the same exact problem. Put in the battery and Samsung appears on the screen without pushing the power button, stays for about 2-3 seconds, fades away and repeats. If I plug in the usb cable, instead of Samsung, it shows the grey battery symbol for about 2-3 seconds then fades out and repeats. Trying to boot to recovery or to put it into download mode does not work.It just repeats the grey battery icon. This is with original stock firmware. This phone has never been upgraded or rooted. It was my daughter's and she didn't want to change it. Now the phone is useless. Tried with and without sim, with and without sd card. Different usb cables. Even holding my tongue sideways. Any suggestions are appreciated.

[Q] Telstra One XL wont turn on after screen replacement

Hi Everyone,
I'm have a problem with my One XL. It's an Australian Telstra item. I got soaked in the rain and the phone got wet. I put it in rice for a few days to soak up the moisture, then charged it up. After this the screen backlight would intermittently fail, and i noticed if I squeezed the LHS of the phone it would sometimes make the screen go on or off. The problem got worse over the space of about an hour and eventually the screen would not come on. I opened up the case, and noticed there was a split in the ribbon cable that is part of the screen at the point that it is folded over 90deg (I'm not sure why this was never a problem before the phone got wet?)
So I stupidly got straight stuck into taking it apart to replace the screen before backing up all my stuff. I ordered a new screen of ebay and replaced the old one. Now I am having the following behaviour:
1-Press and hold power button - Phone vibrates once, then does nothing. Screen doesn't come on.
2-Plug into PC - LED flashes red for a while then goes solid red. Screen doesn't come on. Nothing pops up in "My computer"
3-Press and hold (~10sec) power after 2 - Red light goes off. Phone vibrates once every ~30 seconds. Screen doesn't come on.
4-Press and hold power after 3 - Home/Back/Apps LEDs flash 20 times, no other change.
I also tried a number of combos of power + vol -/+ with no success.
Also, I was being lazy and doing this without putting the case back on, and my power button has fallen apart. It looks like that ribbon cable is only ~$5 on ebay, so no big deal, but means I cant really do anymore troubleshooting at the moment.
So I guess the big question is, can the phone still be salvaged? I'm thinking maybe it's stuck in a boot loop with the screen also not working?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris
The first question I have would be did you make sure you got the right screen? There are three different types of screens that came on this phone and you need to make sure you match it correctly. You can identify the type of screen by the colour of the flex cable attached.
Secondly, you should never use the power + volume up button combination, I'm not sure where you saw that information but it puts the phone into Qualcomm download mode which you definitely don't want. The only button combination that should ever be used is power + volume down.

Hi Timmaaa,
Both screens had the same orange/brown flex cables. I did read that there were different screens, but had thought there were only two and that the other had a green flex, so I definitely didn't get that one. Are the other 2 colours close?
I'm not sure where I read the power + volume up thing as I have read a heap of different threads. What would the expected behaviour be if I had put it into that mode?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Chris
The three different screens have very different colour coding on the flex cable, so matching should be a piece of cake, which I believe you've done correctly. Putting the phone into Qualcomm download mode is kinda like a bricked state, if you're getting the red charging led and the cap button lights flashing I think you're ok.
Another thing to note is that you usually need to sync your new screen when you install it. From memory I believe you need to power the phone on, remove the old screen while the phone is on, and install the new screen while the phone is on. If you didn't follow this process that might be why your display isn't working. Other than that your phone might have just suffered some fatal hardware damage due to the liquid ingress, which isn't going to be fixable.

Thanks again Timmaaa,
I had a closer look at my old screen and it does have the small green section on the flex cable which I didn't notice the first time around. Bugger.
So i disassembled it again and swapped back to the old screen. The display still doesn't turn on, but the phone itself now stays on and the computer recognises it! I'm transferring all my photos across to my computer now, then I'll try to sync it properly and see if that helps.
Cheers,
Chris
Ok so I swapped the screens back and forth with the power on, and now it's working! Thanks Timmaaa, I would never have guessed I needed to have the phone turned on in order to swap parts, seems pretty weird. Now just got to get a new power button.
Cheers,
Chris
Awesome. Glad to be able to help.

[Q] Can't boot

So I've had my transformer laying around living its own life for a bit, it's been a faily temperatured room, and it has had some power left on it. So today I picked it up and tried to boot it, it was fairly cold compared to my body heat, but it wasn't that cold again. Nothing happened, so I put it to charge for a bit and I saw the yellow/orange light, indicating it was charging. But it still wouldn't boot after that. So I am thinking if this is due to the low/normal temp it has been in, or the button is simply broken by itself? Like are there anyways other than the normal power button to turn it on? I know adb isn't running when the phone is fully turned off. But sending it in wouldn't be too good neither as it isn't running the stock ROM. Any help would be appreciated
__________
Edit:
So just tried booting it on again while it was charging, and saw the yellow/orange indicator blinking two times as I was holding it, which seems like the power button isn't hurt. And last time I booted it as said, it worked perfectly fine...
