I was texting with my daughter last night (we both have android phones using the Android Messages app) and when she sent one message to me it came through as "Ok (sent with slamming effect)". Normally I would only see that if someone with an iPhone sent me the message using one of those effects, but not from another Android phone. Sounds like Google might be preparing the Messages app to have these effects too? My daughter has no clue how she got it to do that. Anyone else see this before?

Switched over to TB from Nexus1 and the stock sms app and now when I attach a picture to an SMS it automatically creates a slideshow. I just want a single pic attached I hate how it comes through as a slideshow and dont want to send the picture out that way. Is there anyway to solve this problem short of a 3rd party app or rooting and getting rid of senseui (For the record I have installed Handcent for now and plan on rooting and getting rid of sense just not there yet)
I'm confused to what you mean? If you just put one picture in it won't send it out as a slideshow. I have sent a bunch of MMS and no one ever gets it in slide-show form.
It creates the template and will convert it to a slideshow mms message if you add another picture, but for just one it shouldn't be doing that. Are you on the stock rom?
Yes stock and unrooted. It states it is creating a slideshow with one photo, I never sent it out to check and now for the second time in 10 days all of my sms and mms are gone, i restored them all from SD Card when I got the new phone and they have all disappeared
Yeah check with someone who you sent it to first, it always makes it look like it is making it a slideshow, but that is just preparing it in case you decide to add an additional photo.
Got it thanks, stock app didn't handle it that way and I hate when I get pictures as slideshow
I'm noticing this with picture messages that are being sent to me. I've gotten one from two different people in the past week and both are slideshows. It's kinda annoying and not sure how to fix it.
YES, it is extremely annoying. It did that with the EVO on Sprint, and my friend's Vibrant on T-Mobile does it also.
You have to tap it and pause it to view it for more than a few seconds and you can't zoom.
Pic quality viewing when you get it by text seems to suck as well.
I just sent htc an email about this when i get a response back I will post what they say

Same here.. had a friend send me some pics through sms. I asked him how he sent them as a slideshow.. he said, I didn't. Now I realize it's my phone doing it. It only happens from certain people though. He was using an iPhone.
Been like this since HTC released Android 2.2 with sense. My dinc didn't do it on 2.1. Horrible idea wish they'd revert back.

Wen to phone and called *18
It refreshs data and I got mms message
I use handcent sms and never have this problem.
I don't like any of the stock apps with the droids.
So on my iphone I could have group conversations with 3 other people and it would all be in the same conversation window, I but now, on my one x, when I try this it just sends to everyone individually. It works on my friends droid because he has the verizon messaging app which isn't available to att users (I think)
anyways I was just wondering if there was a simple solution to this (I've tried two 3rd party messaging apps with no luck)
Yeah, you're not gonna be able to get that, AFAIK. The "WhatsApp Messenger" app does this, but that's not actual text messaging, it's an IM app that uses your contacts phone numbers to identify them, and can only message other WhatsApp users.
Just for my own curiosity, when you would do this with your iPhone, would all the other participants be iPhone users? Or would it be a mixed bag of BB/Android/WP7/iPhone?
You should check out the app 'GroupMe'.
Great app that can do either real texting or over the internet messages.
The catch is, you have to message a 'Group number' and GroupMe then forwards that message on to everyone else.
This enables you to add/remove people to a conversation.
You can make these numbers private or public
I'm pretty sure they support every os and you can also just use their website to send messages.
It's all free which is the best part.
This is one of my biggest gripes with Android ICS. My Galaxy Nexus wasn't able to do group SMS either and, coming from an iPhone where I had lots of groups, it's a pain in the ass.
Also, using 3rd party apps that require every other person you want to chat with to also have the app is not a real solution. GroupMe is even worse than the rest b/c if someone EVER had the app (and no longer does) it doesn't recognize that and just doesn't deliver the message at all.

The awesome thing about GroupMe is you don't need the App at all. You can use their service purely through texting.

You didn't read what I wrote. If someone EVER had the app and got rid of it then the app doesn't recognize that and simply doesn't deliver the message at all. This is even worse than simply not being able to message people who don't have the app b/c now the sender has no clue whether their messages were delivered to each recipient.

If I am not mistaken, If the user changed his settings through the web interface he could set it up to be texting only again.
I have never ran in to this issue personally. When I removed the App from my phone I would still get the messages, just not through texts until I switched the settings.
Sorry for not fully understanding the first time.
I have an issue in GoSMS where, whenever I send a message in a group chat, it ends up showing up twice. The first time the message appears and then a few seconds later I "receive" a message from myself (as if I was another user in the group chat) and the message pops up again, this time prefaced with my name and a ":" - e.g. My Name: The weather sure is nice
Anyone else come across this and know how to fix it?
Thanks.
Yes i experience that. Ive tried many different roms but still have the same result. Kinda really sucks but i guess the skyrocket handles text messages differently?

So I just recently came back to android for the moto X from an iPhone 5, and in the past 7 months have missed a lot.
Looking past all the issues I've had with Apple users still sending me imessages that I can't receive, I noticed the stock messaging app and gallery don't show gif animation. So I've been using hangouts. This seems to be hit and miss unfortunately.
Any suggestions or fixes for either/or both apps to allow gif animations?

I'm going to go off-topic real quick, but do you still have an iPhone accessible to you?
To stop that, you have to activate the iPhone with your phone number. Turn on iMessages. Let it activate. After 2 mins, turn it off, and then turn off Facetime (important to do both).
Have someone with an iPhone text you every 20 minutes. Eventually, the blue will stop and they will be regular SMS. After that, you can get rid of the iPhone.
It's happened to me before. According to Apple's servers, iMessage is still connected to your phone number, so any time an iPhone sends you a text, it's going through iMessage instead of SMS. When you turn it off, it eventually tells their servers to cease sending you iMessages and then that will stop.

I do not have the iPhone anymore at all. Also, I have removed all devices from my apple id, as well as contacting apple and having them remove my number totally from their system. I still can't get messages from some users.

I had the same issue, so I had to tell my iphone users to click on the message they sent and it should give them an option to send as a text message. Hope that helps.

good idea
gif files don't work on the moto x no matter what previous phone you had. Hopefully there will be an update to fix this. I use an app to view them. There are several at the play store but yea it's a pain...

I don't understand. I've never had one issue with animated gifs using Hangouts, Photos, QuickPic.

QuickPic and Hangouts work just fine with animated GIFs. I just double checked to be sure, stock Moto X.
I was invited into a group chat with 3 other Verizon users, we all have Android phones - but they all use the official (God awful) Verizon Message+ app and I'm using Pixel's default (Google) texting app, which I really like so far. Problem is... When I first was invited into the group text, it worked - kind of. I got text messages and stuff, but instead of replacing the phone numbers that prefixed the messages, it'd just show the phone numbers.
So I asked them what they used, and downloaded the Verizon texting app and switched to that - I could see avatars, the background picture, it read my contact info for each user correctly, etc.. But the app is terrible, I mean a truly god awful piece of garbage - you can't even save images to your phone, just to "Verizon".
Anyways, rant aside - I switched back to Google's texting app and now I'm not getting any messages in the group text - and I asked in person, they're still sending messages, they're just not coming through for me.
So my main question is: How do I fix not receiving group texts anymore? I tried deleting cache + data for the google texting app like I saw being recommended, but that didn't fix it. I really don't want to switch back to the Verizon message+ app if I can help it because it really is terrible.
Any help would be appreciated. I'd even accept another texting app suggestion if it has feature parity with the google app, I just want to do everything I can to avoid Verizon's app.

Does your device have a "dual messenger" option anywhere in your system settings?
Sent from my SM-S767VL using Tapatalk
No promises, but you might try Textra. I think the problem come from Verizon's app can send over Wi-Fi (desktop apps) and is not really sms compliant.
Thank you both, but sadly no option for dual messaging and I've used Textra and wasn't a huge fan. As awful as the Verizon app is, I may just have to keep using it ?
