disable "hangout" app within settings>apps>all
I know my carrier would allow me to blacklist numbers so they were blocked before I even knew about it. You may wan to check with them.
As far as a software tweak, I would recommend installing a custom ROM (I'm using CM Nightlies) and I remember seeing this option in the menus (among all the other awesome features).

Is it possible to install MIUI original apps on Cyanogenmod or any other phone/OS?
Living in China, backing up to the Mi Cloud is easier than to syncing with Google, as it does not require switching on the VPN and thus does not drain the battery waiting for a VPN connection and gets generally higher network speeds.
Also, the dialler and the messaging app have features that are handy for users in China. The messaging app automatically picks up tracking codes from courier services and can track their progress on the official website easily. It also knows which companies use which phone numbers for broadcast messages and automatically assigns logos and names to their messages.
The dialler app comes with phone number tagging. A phone number that is tagged as a scam, telemarketeer or a courier will show up as such so you have a chance to decline or accept an unknown number.
All these features are a little too handy to be missed. Can they be reinstalled now that I put Cyanogenmod on my phone, or could they even be installed on, say, a Samsung phone without MIUI?

Don't need LBE, I don't think much of the whole 'security' app thing on a phone. But would the Launcher bring back the dialler and the messaging? But then I can't use these apps if I decide to keep Catapult launcher?
So I wonder why, for instance, I cannot install the Xiaomi Music app onto my Cyanogenmod. It says app not installed after I download it from the Mi Appstore. Is it missing a framework or something? Or does it just check whether it's in the MIUI environment and bails if it's not?

I would say because its a system app, you have to put it to /system/priv-app via a root Explorer and change permissions to rw r r .
Or can try to put it in /system/app.
Maybe this works.
Does it have the same heat problems that it have with MIUI multilanguage (aka development) version at least? I'm installing stable version right now to test if the heat and throttle in heavy graphics games is still a problem.
L.E. Sorry (very) wrong thread.

You could always try to look at miui forum for your needs. They have this launcher but if I remember correctly I think there is one more app that brings more of MIUI on any other phone. I dont remember it now. Start diging there, maybe you get what you need.

Hi all,
I finally made the jump to OnePlus!
However, there is one feature that I miss from Honor 6x, and that is App Twin, which I use for having my two WhatsApp Numbers on the same phone. (Yeah dual sim is great!)
What is a good alternative to this for OnePlus 6?
OnePlus has a similar feature.
Go to settings -> Apps -> Parallel Apps
Works pretty much the same. Enable it for WhatsApp and you'll have 2 WhatsApp with individual accounts.

Just keep in mind that parallel apps will break twrp backups unless you delete them before you restore.
Or install WhatsApp and WhatsApp for Business then you don't need parallel apps.

How exactly does it break backups? I've used TWRP backups and restore on the boot partition before while having it enabled. Or does it only break it for certain partitions?

I don't use them so I don't have any experience with it. But many, many people have reported problems with it. There are a couple of threads discussing the issue, here's one:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/255-error-twrp-backup-restore-999-t3801632
It may have been fixed with the most recent OOS update.

The OnePlus 6 uses a/b partitioning which is different than many other devices with the exception of a few. While doing a backup with twrp you will run into a 255 error (999 folders) created by parallel apps. This will either happen when you make a backup or when restoring. I personally have not heard of a workaround besides deleting the folders before backing up. I have found a way to remove these folders permanently without having to delete them one by one. Here is my thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/255-error-twrp-backup-restore-999-t3801632
The Parallel app is working nicely and shows up in the app drawer as a separate icon.
However the original WhatsApp now also opens the "choose optional or parallel app" screen.
Anyone know how to cause the original WhatsApp to just act like a normal WhatsApp, just like the parallel version does?
I generally keep the WhatsApp versions on different screens - home number and abroad number, which are both used equally as much. I edited different colour icons to keep them distinguishable.
Actually using WhatsApp business might be an option for this but I want to support the first party features first before trying that.
Parallel Apps has too many disadvantages for me, like the screen where you have to choose for the normal or the parallel app version. Also the parallel app version stores it's data (like pictures and video's) in a part of the os which you can only access if you have root. Furthermore did the parallel version of WhatsApp crash once for me and I could only get it back to work normally by using a testpackage from OnePlus. None of these problems when using WhatsApp for Business.

For app cloning/multiple accounts I use ISLAND. It's such a cool app. You can create an Island Profile and a Mainland Profile (the apps and the clones of the apps). I use it in "God Mode."

I just installed WhatsApp Business. Yeah the only difference that matters is that it says business in the app and the icon has a B in the notification.
B is okay, because it's for the secondary account and it's fine to label it B. I am not so OCD to care that it says business in the app. (yeah from someone who spent almost 24 hours replicating his preferred settings in all apps).
Point is, it functions just as I need now. ?
Edit: actually at this point I think I will disable Parallel completely. I am currently looking for the command to delete profile 999, which I saw in a previous thread while looking for rooting methods.
Thanks all for the replies!

The test package looks like a simple solution compared to many other ways of restoring data

I thought WhatsApp business also uses com.whatsapp
Yes, you can install them both and link each of them to a different phone number without a problem.

Can you tell me "How to Use WhatsApp Clone in Android Phone"
Just install WhatsApp and link it to your first SIM. Then install WhatsApp for Business and link it to your second SIM. That's all.
Yeah, i am using whatsapp and whatsapp business on the same phone *2 sims* since whatsapp business has launched.
Hey guy,
since there is no way right now to install a custom rom onto the P20 pro I am really concerned about the savety of my private data. What can I do to send as less data as possible to Huawei and their partners (Google,...)? Can I disable the reporting completely?
Thanks in advance!

btw.: if there is a thread out there i did not see yet pls let me know =)

One solution is to block internet access for installed apps and some system apps: settings - > wireless and networks - > data usage - > network access.
If this is not enough for your needs, another solution is to use Netguard and block internet access for any system app you like. It is an open source app and you can find the playstore version
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-netguard-root-firewall-t3233012 or the github version that compared to the playstore version it also has adblock using hosts files
https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard/blob/master/ADBLOCKING.md
I use the github version and it works fine in our phone. A tip to work properly in P20 pro, is to enable "manage system apps" in the Netguard's advanced options. Also, if you use the github version, disable automatic update for Netguard from playstore, otherwise you will lose adblocking. You can update the app via github whenever there is a new update.

I'll just post my answer on a similar question.
Two things:
1. You really need to understand better what is your concern. "Reporting" (such as "Digital Balance" or "User experience improvement program") don't collect data that can identify you as an actual person, it can just identify your phone usage patterns and general info. Most of those can just be disabled in various settings.
2. If you want to go full paranoid (not using Google or any other cloud service accounts, not using cloud backups and syncs, cutting your phone from data network) you will be owning a smartphone without actually using any of its "smart" features. In this case you are really better off, just buy an old feature-phone and save yourself some money.
Anyone here use Phone app by Google instead of Samsung's Phone app?

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at as there isn't much information in your question, but I will try to help where I can.
If I assume you simply want to REPLACE the default phone dialer, I have a Samsung where I NEVER use the default Google apps and it works just fine WITHOUT those Google apps (I've disabled most of them).
As for the phone app, it gets confusing what people "mean" as things changed since Android 10 in terms of separation of the parts that people often mix together.
Specifically, in later Androids, AFAIK, there is a "Dialer" and a separate "Contacts" app (yet which often are combined) and there is even the concept that the "SMS/MMS" messaging app also can often dial out and use the contacts - but there is no longer a default "Dialer" as of Android 10 (AFAIK).
Me?
I don't keep a contacts file (for privacy reasons) in the default sqlite location (because Google/Facebook/Microsoft/etc. motherships upload that database, that's why!) so I use only {dialer,contacts,sms/mms} apps which can work both with and WITHOUT a default contacts sqlite database).
Note that Simple Mobile Tools has a lot of related privacy-aware free useful apps which don't necessarily need the default sqlite contacts database, which is a boon to your privacy (if you care about such things).
Here is a screenshot of what I use in my dock for phone apps on my Samsung, none of which are the default apps by Samsung or Google.
Thank you for your reply. I am actually looking for a way to record phone calls on phone. Phone by Google is the app I was referring to, as you may know it has a call recorder and I was wondering if anyone were able to enable it on their A32 5G.
There's a lot of information about call recording for this phone in this Galaxy A32 5G thread over here...
Anyone know a working call recorder app for this phone?
There's also a generic thread about call recording issues after May 11th when Google made their most recent changes over here...
Is there any way to get 3rd-party call recording (ACR) apps working after tomorrow, May 11th, 2022?
If you're rooted, you probably have more options though.
