Hi All
I've done a bit of reading and see a number of different kernels about.
Can someone recommend the best kernel for extended battery life.
I currently get 18hrs out of my G1 running Froyo by Lazlo.
Yesterday I used navigation for a 30minute trip and my battery went from 100% to 15%
Surely this isn't right.
Any help / suggestions are really appreciated.
Farmatito's kernels are the best I've used. They resolve the battery drain issues and extend battery life.

Hi, I've searched the forums a bit and every thread I saw relating to this topic was a bit outdated so I've decided to create a new one.
I recently got the Nexus S 4G and rooted it, I've been using Slim ICS and it seems to give me issues and the battery life is horrid. I'm wondering if some people can give me their opinions on the Roms/Kernels and set ups that have yielded the best performance and battery life. I don't use my phone for much but music, surfing the internet (very seldom) and texting/making calls.
Thank you everyone in advance.
I'm finding bugless beast to pretty damn good atm

I have had stability and battery issues with most ICS but AOKP and Matr1x are doing amazingly well on my device. Not one complaint since the switch.

Thank you guys for the input, I will check those out when I get off of work. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'll probably spend the next few days flashing and testing them out.
Codename Android coupled with air kernel is extremely stable and quick as any other ROM and battery life is good. Also it has a good amount of launcher and status bar customization.
If your looking for speed though, Apex is undoubtedly the quickest in terms of windows opening and closing.
I'll check out Codename as well. As for kernels and things like that, what is the best governor and kernel, or is that all dependent upon which ROM I'm using?
In terms of speed, stability and battery life; I'd rather have stability and battery life over speed if that makes any different. All 3 would be lovely but I'm more concerned with stability and battery life. If the phone won't stay on or stay charged it won't matter how fast it is.

Kernels do their own thing as far I know. I usually use noop with smartassv2 or wheatley. And as I mentioned before air kernel is REALLY nice and stable.
I've been using the predecessor of Apex because of 1.0.2 issues on my phone and its really quick just like apex because its basically the same and it doesn't really sacrifice battery life at all either. I would give it a go. Its bigxie 3.5 on his "all crespo4g builds" link in the original post

Hi,
I use the SLIM ICS Rom and Im getting awesome battery life....
Hmmm did you change anything on it?
Are you turning off the internet, wifi, gps and sync when not used?
Did you clear battery stats? This is normally best when you flash any ROM.
Or maybe a widget or app is doing the draining.
I would recommend reflashing it with the March 4th update just to make sure.
Good luck
SLIM ROM has great idle, and you can always use the battery saver mode... with this you can have the ROM turn off syn, wifi and data all by itself when screen is off... check it out

Wow, I'm a moron. I remembered seeing the Power Saver and always thought I had checked yes, I hadn't just the individual settings. I've now updated to 2.8 ICS Slim and I'm going to see how that goes.
Wondering if anyone else has had this issue after root, I have the voicemail icon (which I hate) but when I click it, it dials *86 and I get a wrong code message. What exactly can I do for one to check my voicemail and second get rid of that annoying icon?
Thank you everyone for the input.

Go into your call settings ... voicemail settings ... and change the stock *86 to your own mobile number.

Just make sure u tell the power saver mode what to do under the settings... the default may not be what u want....
RU using Google voice? If so the only reason u would change *86 to ur phone # would be to call sprint VM.... if ur using GV then it will automatically download to ur phone without using minutes to call regular voicemail
I was at 1st against GV but now it comes in quit handy like the original sprint VM ...
Go under GV settings and have the notifications set how u want them. U may have to go desktop version of GV to customize all the settings... just to make sure.
Vs Nexus S 4G
Thank you guys for all of the help.
vidaljs I was wondering if you use the kernel Slim ICS came with or a different one? Also wondering, I have Power Saver on and it seems to be turning my 3G on after I turn the screen back on even if I have it turned off before turning the screen off. Anyone know a way around this?

Hey guys, so I've installed this ( ICE DS v 5.0 ICS 4.0.4) and its working wonderful. Except I've installed the htc arrows. Is there anyway to remove it without flashing the ROM again? Thanks! Btw, I wanted to post there but don't have enough posts at the mean time...
Sorry guys! Just fixed it. However, I realized the battery life is crap. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Done calibration too.

Fixed the keyboard! But the battery life is honestly terrible. It's getting drained like WTH. Even after calibrating it and what not. Any ideas?
Hello.
I have a battery problem on my nexus 5. Seems like no matter what I do, my Nexus 5 discharges like it never sleeps. It first occured on Cataclysm with franco r32, I wiped everything and tried Cyanogen, same happened. Now with AOKP and Purity and Sanity - SAME PROBLEM.
What am I missing?
I am using multirom twrp.
Does anyone have any idea?
Thank you

Unfortunately, as good as some on XDA are at troubleshooting, none of us can see your phone. Or what apps you have. Or battery stats. Or wakelock detection. I think you get the point. Just saying I have bad battery life is absolutely worthless without other details to explain what is going on. I'd suggest looking into the apps: Bettery Battery Stats and / or Wakelock Detector. Both of these, over the course of some time will be able to get you a better idea of what's up, or at least that and some screenshots posted here might be able to provide some more insight. If you can use that to track down some problem areas, it's possible the app Greenify can help hibernate it and keep it from making so much trouble.

I would tell you more about apps and wakelocks but the thing is I have been testing those roms i mentioned completely stock. I tried greenify with every rom, gsam reported 23min SOT with 7hours battery life when I checked (at 4% battery). So I tried another rom - I am on Vanir right now.. don't even have google account set up and still experiencing the same drainage.. 30% in 2hours idling..
Well, you could test till your fingers fall off, but if you don't share your findings, then how could we help you? I'm not saying that I can or can't help, but there are many here with a lot of experience with these issues and a breakdown of your findings might help someone point you in the right direction. Plus if there are other users in your situation, and they see your findings coincide with theirs, then that's more subject material to help troubleshoot. I've flashed dozens of roms and have not experienced anything similar, before or after sync. Not saying I haven't had battery issues, but usually brought upon by myself and playing with kernels and settings. Just haven't had that kind of drain through multiple roms and what not.
Hello i think my battery life it's not so good as the other's people. In standby (screen off) i see consumption around 1% per hour with 2g network and closed data.
Also, i have the greenify and i sleeping all applications except go sms pro, SwiftKey, and alarm clock.
I
After update to 4.4.2 kitkat i have did factory reset in settings.
They use custom kernel to save battery life

I'm no expert in battery life of the moto g, i'm still trying to get used to the phone but for me having spent 1% per hour in a day with no use and those settings is pretty good, i mean if i go to sleep with 70%+ battery left, i don't even bother to charge the phone.
Sent from my Moto G using xda app-developers app
yes, <1,5% is good in idle but it can be better because for me, its 0,3-0,5%/h, sometimes only 0,1%/h (it means 0,6-3% max. for my 6 hour night)
Geenify
Maybe the apps which you didnt greenify cause this battery drain ( not sure if this is a high drain as im using tweaky one Rom with faux kernel.. Maybe try to greenify those apps which you dont habe greenified now one after the other and tell us if it made a difference.. Also look in your settings if you disabled all things you dont need like print GPS etc.. Hopefully this helps

Would you recommend to greenify motorola services? I did once and couldn't check for updates and get it back working was a pain in the arse. I am currently having around 1% drain with wifi on 24/7 but once I had around 0.4 to 0.6%/h. Can't find wakelocks aswell, currently on stock kernel and rom.
I dont think that Motorola services darin mich battery..
I want the moderator to ban me.
downgrade your OS to make it work again.
