[Q] Rebrand Desire S with ICS wwe from HTCDEV

Dear all,
I am in the middle of the bridge and don't know where to go...could you please give some help deciding what to do?
I have a Branded Desire S (Vodafone) with v2.3.5 lastest OTA update, and I would like to flash and try the ICS stock WWE from HTCDEV.
The simlock has already been removed, but the thing is can i flash this ICS update? do i need any goldcard or anything of the kind? Will the phone work ok? Or do i have to wait (maybe forever...) for the vodafone update? I reallly would like to unbrand the phone (the vodafone logo and other vodefone apps are really annoying...).
I think if this WWE update will go ok, when i received and warning about any vodafone update (because the serial indicates that this phone is a vodafone one) i have to ignore it and only apply only any WWE updates from HTCDEV, rather than that, i thing phone will work ok... but still i am worried about some things like :
- bricking phone with ICS update;
- some things don't work ok with this update because is a branded phone (i chat with HTC support and they told me that some guy complained about WIFI does not work after the ICS update, ... could it be possible, even if the hardware is the same from branded and unbranded phones?;
- possibility to go back to a 2.3.5 rom if i dont like for whatever reason of the ICS of its behavior on this phone; the HTC guy told me that only on the HTC assistance was possible to make it ... dont we just have to run the correct version of the ROM (by the way i don't know which is mine, could you please tell me? Because i seached on the HTCDEV for the right software number (2.10.168.3) and the file to download is a ".gz" file not a .exe one;
Other thing, does this ICS include a PTG (Portugal) language.
I will be forever grateful for all the help / hints you can give me.:good:
Thx in advance.
D_Saint :angel:
From what I've heard, the ics update has bugs, that can only be solved with root access. Flashing the ruu should work fine though, but you won't be able to downgrade without unlocking the bootloader to get root access.
For these reasons I would recommend making your phone s-off (see guides in the "general section), and installing a fixed version of the ics update, or whatever custom rom you want. Then you can still go back to the original state, if you want to.
I read somewhere on my downgrade guide that they have successfully debranded their phone using my guide.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
Ditto to above two comments, read, read and then soff rather than htcdev
Sywepd form my DsereiS
Thx for tips, Will soff erase contacts or apps? For root with soff how to flash su??? Is there any repaired / bugless ics stock?

need some help after JB update

I recieved yet another refurbished replacement from t-mobile today, which came loaded With ICS.... I popped my sim in and set it up and after connecting to wifi, i got a system update notice for JellyBean. I made the mistake of not rooting and changing the cid while it was on ICS so now, after the update, im on JellyBean and cannot change the cid for s-off.
I've already unlocked the bootloader and rooted with CWM Recovery installed....and cannot update OTA....
I want to unroot and relock the bootloader and return to stock jellybean so i can do the OTA update from today June 26 2013. I don't care for rooting without s-off and JellyBean is running great as it is. I'm unable to find the RUU for Tmous TMO010. where can i find this ruu or what are my options for installing this update manually?
Why cant you change the CID ?

I have no idea why, something about the jb ota not letting the cid save after the change, I've tried many times with no success, no matter what value I put, it just reverted back to tmo010.

Ok I downloaded the RUU from the link and while it was downloading, I found a link on the support.htc.com with the RUU from the JB update from April. I don't know enough about MD5 and checking them, the checksum isint provided with the download from the HTC site so I wouldn't know what to check.
Which one would you guys suggest?
This is the link to the RUU that I found.

With your CID, the RUU you identified should be the correct one.
Dont you mean T_MOB010 as cid, not tmo010

It could be branded, but, as far as I know, there shouldn't be any difference in rooting. Just the standard method like for every other HTC Desire S.

Well, the Gold Card method is for achieving S-OFF. You can HTC Dev unlock your phone, and then flash a recovery, then a ROM and you'll have root. Keep in mind, you'll need to flash the boot.img from the ROM.zip every time you flash a new ROM. If you want to achieve S-OFF, Gold Card method is required, as far as I know, regardless of the branding.

Well, in order to do a full backup, you'll need to unlock the bootloader and flash a recovery and do a nandroid backup afterwards. But you'll loose your data, when unlocking your phone, so when you'll want to do a backup, there won't be anything to backup. Another way, is to search for apps that don't require root permissions to backup your data. I think, there were some, "MyBackup" and "Helium Backup". Look for both on Play Store.
If you flash official ICS through RUU, you'll use your data too. There is a WWE(World Wide English) RUU for official ICS, which should work even for branded phones.
I'm not 100% sure about that, everything you do, you do it on your own risk.

Last time I've unlocked my bootloader, it was about 10 months ago, and I don't remember really well, but I think, it should clear all your data, not really sure though.

Look in Desire S' development section, there should be a thread with all available RUU. At best, look in the index thread.

It was on one of my Gdrive account, easy to find (for me at least ).
As far as I know there's no way to unbrand a phone (I mean changing CID).
What do you exactly want to do ? Just get rid of preinstalled crapware and staying on stock ? If so, like nvardan said, create a goldcard & flash whatever Asia RUU you want.

dude in the ROM.zip , android-info.txt has my CID VODAP120 ... but the thng is i donot want to flash voda ( French ewwww ) i want the Simple HTC STock .. if possible so with sense 2.1 otherwise Sense 3.0 will be okay !
What's your hboot, 2.00.0002 I guess ?
If you want to revert back to sense 2.1 you need to change your misc_version before flashing RUU, otherwise you will get a bootloader error (check downgrade guide / tacoroot).

I previously said Asia because that's the location in your profile but Europe RUU will work as well with goldcard.

Just look in to your devices current <build.prop> file,
there you`ll find the info about the CID`s,
ver.number, etc....
two more interesting locations to check:
1) /system/customize/CID/default.xml
2) /system/customize/MNS/default.xml
If you wouldn`t find right ruu (in case is branded)
just find and read how to make a system dump....
..may also still find something there:

Help - htc one a9 unlocked

I recently updated my HTC One A9 to the new Marshmallow 6.01 version and now the wifi does not work at all (missing wifi module (8)) and the battery is at 4000%. My software number is 1.56.709.70, i believe this is the taiwan variant but it is unlocked. How do I fix this? Please help, do I flash an ruu or something? How do I know which ruu works for this phone?
if your A9 is S-ON you have to search for a signed RUU with your software number (1.56.709.70).
You may also try to factory-reset your phone in download mode
If nothing helps you can unlock and S-Off your phone - after that you are able to flash any RUU
