hey,
So I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, it is rooted, runs 2.2 & Speedmod kernel.
It has been running fine on the speedmod kernel for several days now, until today. Out of no where, when I was using the phone Launcher Pro started CONSTANTLY force closing, basically leaving my phone in a useless force closing cycle.
AND, on top of that there are other apps that are force closing about every 10 seconds or so. they are: Market, Clock, and Samsung Apps.
Any idea whats happening here?
Thanks a lot!
~Dylan
did you install any recent apps that cause problems? it might be one of them.
You may need to ODIN back to stock.. well thats how we go back to stock on Galaxy S VIBRANT.
should be the same.
I haven't installed any apps that have caused problems that I know of...
I was just listening to music for an hour or so in the car, then when I unlocked my phone I was met with countless force close messages.
Yes, I was thinking that might be the route I have to go, but I was hoping there would be some way to uninstall those problem causing applications (namely Launcher Pro) somehow. I don't know how I would go about uninstalling it though, as my phone is basically rendered useless due to the constant force closing.
But thanks a lot for the input!

i don't think theres a difference between our phones, mines Tmobile Vibrant, but theres a built-in feature in stock, and most custom roms called SAFE MODE.
most people don't know about this.
This mode helps you do exactly what your facing, uninstall apps that act up.
In Safe Mode, it disables any startups and all that shiz.
Try going in like this.
shut down phone.
press power and wait till it get on vibrant screen, then start holding the MENU KEY the whole way until it starts.
the way to know if thsi worked is.. on the bottom left hand corner, it'll say SAFE MODE with a box aroundi t.
if this doesn't work, ODIN is the best way.
If you haven't turned it off recently, try a reboot. Yeah, standard boring advice, but I had constant-force-close issues a few months ago and a reboot fixed it.
So I somehow managed to get into the task manager by long pressing the home button, then from their I was able to uninstall Launcher Pro. So the CONSTANT force closing has stopped.
BUT, I still have plenty of other apps that are force closing very consistently. For example, everytime I go into the messaging application it force closes, so I can't send or receive texts. Along with that, Facebook, 'Clock', Samsung Apps, & Market are force closing.
When I go into the market it says **Connection Error (or something like that) and then sometimes force closes....so this problem renders the market useless as well.
Oh, and when I go into safe mode, I still get the constant force closing... but thanks for that info! I had no idea you could even go into safe mode with this phone.
Honestly, at the point flashing stock firmware back into ODIN is looking like my best option, but I reallllllly don't want to lose all of my installed apps, and text messages, and whatnot.
Anybody have any other ideas?
btw, thanks a lot for the input so far!
So I did a backup of all my data using the speedmod recovery menu (volume up, home, power)
If I reflash the PDA in ODIN, will I still have the speedmod kernel, thus allowing me to recover my backup of installed apps, texts, etc.?
Or will re-flashing wipe the backup and get rid of the speedmod kernel..?

Idk what the speed mod thing is.. But yes. It will be erased.
If u want to save backups of apps..
Get titanium back up doesn't matter if u get pro or free.
Just restart on everything dude.. Like a clean fresh install.
Its something that u installed or flashed that's causing these problems.
Sounds like your phone's internal SD is dying. Our Bell Vibrant has a nasty habit of the internal SDs dying, and I've heard that force closing all the time is one of the signs that the SD is going. There's a thread in development about this. I suggest you start backing everything up
Alright, I started from scratch and now everything is working great! thanks for your help guys!
plus, now I'm even running Darky's v7.5 Gingerbread Edition, this ROM is soooo epic. haha

My Samsung Galaxy Ace has become very slow after installing [ROM][UNOFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 7.2-cooper-KANG-RC1-Android 2.3.7 from the development forum.
I installed the latest update from 26/03 yesterday but it hasn't made any difference.
Problems I have with my phone:
-My phone is so slow that sometimes I am not even able to respond to phone calls in time. When the phone rings, the unlock bar can become so slow at times that it takes so much time for the call to be answered that I miss the call.
-The ADW Launcher whatever it maybe keeps crashing continuously.
-When I open apps, I keep getting messages that they are not responding asking if I want to close them.
-When apps do open they take forever, sometimes Google Maps takes upto 30 seconds after which it often crashes
-Often things seem to go in slow-mo: especially when I press something on the screen, for example the unlock bar, it unlocks in slow-mo ...
Things seem less problematic and a lot faster when I use the phone while it is connected to the chrager.

No. Try factory resetting and formatting all partitions, then flash the rom.
Hey,
I purchased a used Nexus 5, 32GB edition (I think the model is D821) as my then current phone (a Samsung Galaxy S4) somehow had a magically broken screen after setting it down on a bed. I have since been able to access my old phone, but it isn't usable as a daily handset.
Anyways, wen I first obtained this phone, I wanted to be safe so I unlocked the bootloader, downloaded the necessary tools to use adb/fastboot, wiped the phones storage, and then flashed the latest version 5.0.1 LRX22C. After installing the normal things I had on my old phone and rooting the device, I have noticed that I get an absurdly abnormal amount of force closes. Mainly dealing with the launcher.
On a daily basis, the launcher, and it seems to mainly ONLY be the launcher (either Google Launcher or Nova, it isn't application specific) force close, freeze, or become unresponsive. I can come to this conclusion on the following basis:
1) The launcher screen shows the background, but doesn't show the dock or any of the shortcut/widgets on the launcher
2) All I can see is a black screen and the notification bar/tab. This is sometimes evaded by switching to the recent apps button and then switching back using the home button.
3) It will show the screen with all applications, but won't swipe between home screens.
There is no major physical damage to the device, there is a hairline crack from the previous owner.
I am guessing that I could go through the process of downloading the firmware and reflashing it, but I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to solve it, besides flashing the device immediately. I don't want to go through the hassle of flashing firmwares and setting up a device again, especially during finals week. The problem is annoying enough that it would make me post this, but not annoying enough to spend an entire afternoon dealing with that and re-configuring applications and such.
Thanks for the help in advance.

How did you install the stock firmware? Have you tried wiping cache and dalvik cache in recovery? I'd do that first, and if that doesn't work then try dirty flashing the same ROM (you won't lose anything). If you are still having issues after then flash a factory image with fastboot (do NOT use a toolkit). That should fix it.

I know this is a very late response.
The initial way that I installed the stock firmware was using fastboot, and installing each .img file separately.
I just re-flashed the factory image again (except for the recovery image), and am waiting for the phone to boot up (it seems like it takes ages for the phone to actually go from fresh install to fully booted), it has been over a 5 minutes now.
But once that is done, I will see what happens. Is there a way to check for bad hardware (I am specifically thinking flash storage)? Maybe that is causing the problem?
I didn't know about this RAM issue until I got the update that I, after researching it, understand should fix it!
Most irritating is my launcher and keyboard... they KEEP RESTARTING.
The Keyboard (SwiftKey) even restarts during use. Suddenly disappears for 5-10 sec before I can re-enable it by taping an input-box, and then it takes ~3 sec to reload...
My launcher (GO Launcher) keeps restarting basically every time I use the Home-button (from another, any other app), and when I unlock the phone. :/
Are there any clean fix for this issue?
If not, since I rather not root my device, aren't there any "hack" so I can force given apps in memory?
If I could do that I'd be happy - at least my launcher and keyboard will give me a smooth experience!
Thank you in advance!
Without root you will be out of luck.
Only a custom kernel oder custom rom can minimize the apps preloaded (Google and Samsung apps) and raise the amount of apps the phone keeps on memory.
The only thing you could do is that you disable any preloaded app that you dont need (like Facebook or any other Samsung app).
Get the last update with the new touchwiz (of edge+ and note 5), Ram management is fixed on this update.
To start, I have lost access to the reaction video of my wife's first pregnancy announcement. So I would even be willing to make a donation to someone who can help me. (If that is against the rules, let me know)
I used an app from the Play store called Package Disabler Pro to disable some of the bloatware on my phone. In doing so, I disabled something necessary for Ultra Power Save Mode to function. (perhaps Touchwiz) I use Nova Launcher. I tried to show UPSM to a friend yesterday and was met with a black screen. The phone was still running, as I could get the notification window to drop down from swiping. But I had no option to leave UPSM in the settings. The settings that were listed were very limited. I tried everything and ended up soft restarting the phone. It booted back up into UPSM with black screen (no launcher). I finally started tinkering around with Recovery and cleared the cache. At some point, I don't know if it was caused by the cleared cache, it stopped booting fully. I now get stuck at the finished ATT boot animation.
I'm at a loss as to the next step. AFAIK there are no custom recoveries for Galaxy S6 Active yet. So pulling data from ADB in recovery is out. The only other option I have seen is a 'dirty' stock rom flash. But I don't even know if that is possible or will work. If there is anyone out there that has any clue what I should be doing, please help me. I need help. :crying:
Thank you.

I'd say give the stock a try. The stock tars for our regular S6 dont wipe data. Let this be a learning experience to backup important items to the cloud or thumb drive

Is there a distinction between using Stock Recovery to flash stock and using Odin? Stock Recovery warns that user data will be formatted. So I'm assuming that it wipes the user data partition. All that aside, does anyone even know how to get ahold of S6 Active tars?
Ah! I have this same problem right now. Note5. Haven't dug myself that far into the hole yet, and I somehow got out of nova launcher and into TouchWiz (safe mode boot probably), but im stuck in grayscale and can't do anything other than the limited settings options or make phone calls. No texting, internet, full settings access, quicksettings, or really any apps but contacts and phone.

Have tried starting the phone in Safe Mode? Thats what I'd try.
Try what sd_N suggested.
Turn your phone on by holding power button + volume down
When you get the samsung logo, release the power button but keep holding volume down all the way until you get lock screen.
If you are able to boot to safe mode then there's most likely something you have downloaded / something running during your regular boot that crashes / malfunctions.
