On March 11 I casually decided to do the offered OS/ROM update on my Sony Xperia XZ. Unlike the times before that, this time it didn't go smoothly. In fact, the phone is stuck in a boot loop since then. I switch it on, the SONY logo appears, the Xperia logo appears and after some 10 secs the Xperia logo stops changing and the phone reboots. Repeat.
The bad thing for me: I have no proper backups All I would like is to access the data (esp. photos) on the device. No, they're not in the Google cloud.
Removing the SIM / SD card didn't help. Xperia companion can only flash the ROM anew, thus overwriting all data.
Is there anything I can try to access the internal SD?
Any help appreciated,
Chris
Are you rooted? Is your bootloader unlocked? Did you do an OTA update or use PC when it went wrong? If you did this on 11th March has this issue been going on since then?
The phone is not rooted, I didn't do anything with the bootloader, so I guess it's not unlocked. I did an OTA update when it went wrong. The issue still goes on, yes. I just switched the phone on and it is still looping.
Hope there's anything I can do...
Using flashtool without ticking the wipe data will give you a new fresh firmware without deleting data partition, doesn't matter if you're unlocked or not since you will be installing a firmware with official Sony signature so the phone will accept it, I accidentally kept my data partition through many flashes just to have to wipe it manually afterwards when I enter the post boot stage and find myself with all the old crap still in that I was supposed to get rid of, hope you solve it

I used the easy rooting process from and once i was rooted i used ROM manager to download Liquid Gingersense 1.0 and saw there was no access to radio. So i went to download a new radio and was told to rename PG05IMG.ZIP. I went to put on SD card and saw that from the rooting process there was already a file with that name. I figured it was just the radio files needed for the rooting, so i replaced with the new .ZIP file. I then loaded the bootloader (down, and power) and tried to load the new .ZIP but to no avail it did not work. I don't remember exactly what i did from then to know but to problem........I truly believe my phone is bricked and I cant find anything that describes my problem.............
I cant power down while plugged in. It automatically loads the bootloader giving the four options bootloader, reboot(which still works properly, and loads up the phone without any problems), reboot bootloader, and power down. If I choose bootloader it automatically tries to read if i have anything on the card. Then i have the option of fastboot, recovery, factory reset, simlock, hboot usb, and image crc. If I choose recovery or factory reset it instantly changes to the white HTC screen and reloads the bootloader. Also to make matters worse, I had read that if you do the system update through the phone that it would erase the rooting done to your phone, I downloaded the newest update and tried to install. Now every time I turn the phone on it, on it's own, shuts down my phone to update the software but instead of updating the software it just opens the bootloader.
As of now I'm rooted with s=on
If my battery is low enough it wont try to upgrade with the new software.
I reformatted my SD card and that didn't work either.
I used Titanium Backup to load clockworkmod. When tried to use that, it would still load in the bootloader with the 3 androids on the bottom.
and the top of the bootloader there is white text with pink background that says *** Security Warning ***
So to sum up, I cant recover or factory reset(through my phone settings, or hard boot), I cant access clockworkmod to recover anything, and bootloader doesn't work.
I've only had this phone for a few days, so please help me fix it.
Thanks,
Bryce Morgan
I got a Moto G First generation (X1032) with lollipop 5.1
A few weeks ago I had the option to do a update, after I installed the update my phone was restarting and it now gets stuck in a bootloop. I can still come to the bootloader.
When I connect my phone to my computer it won't install, so I can't acces my phone.
My phone needs to startup in order to install it, but that's not possible because it will get in a bootloop.
My phone was rooted, but I fully unrooted it before I did the update.
Is there anyway to survive my phone? Already tried factory reset, but that won't do.
Thank you for your time.

Hi and thank you for using XDA Assist
My guess is that you need to flash again the stock ROM.
You ended up into a bootloop because you may changed some system files, and for each update the installer is checking that.
There are two situations:
- The update process will went good but you will be stuck into a bootloop
- The update process will be interrupted directly from the recovery
Here is a good guide about how to get back to stock.
Good luck!
Hi, I'm in a bit of a rage right now. Need my phone for work, and also afraid of loosing all the pictures and videos I've taken
So my phone has worked perfectly for months, updated several times, but today after the last update it's stuck on the boot logo, the Samsung one.
I've tried hard reset with Power+Down, it just reboots to the same logo and stays there forever. I also can't get into recovery mode with Power+Up+Home, it just gives me a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it for 1 second then boots back to the samsung logo. Tried Kies 3, it doesn't recognice the phone at all, tried everything in there.
The only thing I can access is the Download mode Down+Power+Home, I have no idea what to do there, I've read about Odin but that looks like some NASA-stuff way above my knowledge, isn't there just a way to get it back to previous version? Orginal, stock and all that? Don't wanna mess with roots if that can be done
I'm out of ideas, please help me, are all my data gone? Pictures, video etc? :'(
Help please
*Sorry for bad English, not my native, but I hope it got trough.
Sounds like an update gone wrong. Restoring the phone isn't so hard but saving your pictures and data is harder in most cases. You can try using Smart Switch and see if your device shows up on failed updates, maybie it can repair the installation. You can also use Smart Switch to restore the phone completely, but this DELETES everything on it. If you haven't rooted phone and have warranty, I'd return it to Samsung with strict instructions that phone broke when software update and that you want to keep your data/pictures. If the phone is rooted there are ways to extract data from the phone memory but I'd only do that as a last option.

Yeah, I did the upgrade with modelname and S/N trough Smart Switch, it worked, but all data was lost including all my contact phone numbers, hade over 350 :| don't think they are synced either? :|
Anyway, glad the phone works, will never install these stupid updates again, never noticed a single improvment after them anyways
Urgent help reqd
randomly my nexus 5 restarted
google came on screen and now only those four animated circles are showing up and the phone doesnt go further
went in bootloader but cant wipe cache, cant format, or anything else from there.
usb debuggng must be off as far as i remember
trying to flash through sdk manager. have downloaded image. but stops at "waiting for device" in cmd and it doesnt go any further than that. even tried doing it manually through cmd.
when the phone is connected it is showing the drivers but it isnt installng and can see the yellow exclamation.
manually downloaded the drivers and tried installing manually but shows drivers are up to date.
uninstalled driver and reinstalled but same issue. it is connected to usb 2.0.
now how do i get it to work?
I have tried all the options i could search for on this forum but none of them solved my issue.
Is the bootloader unlocked?
How do i check that?
Ok got it
It is locked
How do i unlock?
I checked some unlocking bootloader threads but they all require usb debugging to be on.
My phone is not starting at all so i cannot do that
How do i go about it now
Tried nexus root toolkit. It isnt detecting the device.
Unlocking will wipe you device.
Google themselves have a guide on how to flash, not sure why you are using toolkits.
Also, you will wipe your device, if you haven't already. Make sure you have the right drivers, make sure you get the device to come up under "fastboot devices"
Already tried all methods mentioned by google or xda.
If you read my initial post my phone is not getting detected as well but shows installing drivers when connected but the installation fails.
Manually install the correct drivers.
Tried that but i get the error that you already have latest drivers. But its not detecting the phone
Try removing the drivers and reinstalling
Also, try different USB ports and cables.
Did all of that a number of times. Still no luck
Other phones are getting connected and detected just fine.

Hi all, i have a similar problem
this morning my n5 boots into "optimizing apps", but stops when reach around 15/20 apps and reboot (3 or 4 times)...
Now, only keeps in android animation like useruser12.
I can see my data in TWRP, battery 95%...
I wipe cache/dalvik... nothing
I reflash the kernel (ElementalX 6.17), still nothing
Any ideas?
PS: latest news. After make a backup, I made a factory reset and restore a system-boot-cache partition from old backup. Now the phone boots but i hate lose all my data xD. I want try to solve my problem using my "corrupted" backup for avoid losing data. If that fails, I can always restore this functional backup. Any ideas again?
Used the nexus root toolkit.managed to unlock bootloader but immediately the device reboots and goes into the bootloop again.
Tried the flash stock + unroot function as well which detected my factory image and everything went smooth till it came back to unlocking the bootloader and rebooting the device after that and again went into the bootloop
Though i have installed the drivers, on reboot windows 7 automatically starts installing the mtp usb device driver but fails. Manually downloaded the drivers and installed as well.
Still its not worked and whatever i do it comes back and get stuck at the bootloop.
Any expert can give a solution? Thanks
After unlocking the bootloader, does the bootloader relock when the phone is rebooted? If it does, the memory chip is defective.
Phone doesnt reboot completely.goes into a loop after the google logo and doesnt go further.
If i switch off the phone midway here without it booting up and then restart the bootloader then its locked again.
But what i read was that the process of complete reboot needs to finish and i need to turn on usb debugging. So is it because of that the bootloader locks again?
Anyways, this what im facing

Lucky that you could do a factory reset. I wasnt even able to do that from the bootloader.

Sorry, i did it via TWRP.
If the bootloader relocks itself upon reboot, it's the memory chip that is damaged.
Hi all,
I have a Verizon Xperia Z2 tablet (SGP561) that had been a Verizon store demo (fully functional). I rooted it with KingRoot to get all the Verizon crap off (I only use it as WiFi anyway), upgraded it to stock Android 5.1.1, used Super-Sume to get rid of KingRoot and set it up with my apps. I used this guide to make sure it went according to plan: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...z2-tablet-models-regions-5-t3415832?nocache=1
Everything was fine until I put an SD card in and installed Apps2SD. I don't know if either of those are the cause or that's just a coincidence.
Since then, the farthest I can get is the Verizon boot screen. I can get to TWRP, but my backup does not appear there. Factory Wipe does not have any effect. It can read the SD card.
When I tried to use FlashTool to get the FTF I put on there back, the log spat out an error message that USB debugging might not be switched on (it was) and then gave me the message "Upgrading, do not disconnect device from PC. SOftware Status: Modified". It then reboots and goes to the Verizon boot screen, where it stays forever.
So, to my questions:
Can someone point me to where I could find a suitable stock ROM to try?
It was suggested to me that I "adb a logcat while the phone is bootlooping". I'm afraid that one is over my head, so could anyone tell me how?
(I should add that when I run ADB in TWRP, it fails. It says "Updating partition details...done. Full SELinux support is present, Running boot script... Finished running boot script. MTP Enabled. Starting ADB sideload feature..." THen, after about 5 minutes it tells me it failed.)
Thanks!
Resolved
In case anyone else encounters a similar problem, creating a new FTF and reflashing worked for me (I had tried it before and it had not worked, but third time's a charm, I suppose). I used the instructions here: http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...peria-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool/
I no longer have root, but I am on 5.1.1 and will see where I can go from here.
