If i install the ce1 or uk version via the xperia and flashtrool, will i still get OTA updates through the software? Or will i have to manually flash them everytime?
Basically will it function normally with OTA updates as if it was never flashed?
Thanks!

You will, but only if you choose a fw that is handled by active operators like EE/Orange/Vodafone etc, generic firmware is not always pushed through OTA.
Yes you'll get them. In fact generic firmware get over the air much earlier than carrier versions

Hi guys,
so as you are receiving Android 5.0.2 I spoke with my carrier today to find you that they are still waiting for Sony to provide the test software. This means more waiting for me. I'm thinking of updating following this manual - http://techbeasts.com/2015/03/16/update-sony-xperia-z3-compact-d5803-official-android-502-lollipop-231a0690-firmware-how-to/
Before I do it I have a few questions:
1. When I update using this method am I going to lose all the apps and setting that I'm using now?
2. If I choose sets say the german version of 5.0.2, does this mean that in the future I will receive OTA updates alongside the phones running this version out of the box?
Thanks in advace.

I would just point out that that thread you linked to states that it is specifically for the Z3c. That is a different device to the Z3
However, you can just flash a FTF for the Z3 found in flashtool (Or the mega collection thread) using flashtool.
You will lose all data on your phone unless you choose to not wipe data.
You will receive updates as if you had the phone with the firmware you install on it.
But you can always flash the FTF for your carrier once it comes out
Greg
Thanks Greg.
So there is a way to avoid wiping the phone when updating with flashtool ?

Untick the box that says wipe data
If you get a load of FCs after the phone boots you will have to re-flash and then wipe data
I think I got it, but I would have to read a bit more before flashing.
Thanks again
Are there any disadvantages to flashing a different version of the firmware?
For example, I'm with Three, and although they now pride themselves on their phones being unlocked, they've still put their bloody splashscreen and other bits and pieces on the provided firmware on the phone! I'd rather have the generic UK version, but just making sure there'd be no issues with that.
None for me, My phone was with ROM for Mtel ( a Bulgarian carrier)that also claims the phone is unlocked. I flashed the central Europe ROM without any issues. Even kept all the files and apps from 4.4.4
Thanks for that, I'll have a look at some of the various firmwares available and make my choice!
I am rooted and looking to go back to stock by flashing the stock firmware using Odin on my G920F. However since KNOX is already tampered with and there's no way of resetting it, will I be able to receive OTA updates once I revert back to full stock? If not, is there a way for it to work?

Hi, going back to full stock is the best way to get OTA updates so yes you should get any OTA update that is available to you,

Thank you for the reply, but one more thing, does flashing a specific firmware region may equal different updates? So if i flash the UK firmware, will I get the software updates for the UK phone? I know that sounds pretty dumb but I'm knew to Samsung coming from HTC.

Hi, I have never flashed a different region firmware before so I can't really comment on this sorry.
Tripping KNOX doesn't prevent OTA updates, as long as you flash back stock.
If your current ROM is rooted, this may prevent updates.

Never flash other model firmware, always stay to the W8 version.
Hi guys,
I have a Sony Xperia XZ (F8331) and my current firmware is 39.2.A.0.442 with my customization being 1304-9025_R6C which corresponds to Customized IBE.
From what I can see on XperiCheck, Customized IBE is already on version 41.2.A.2.199 but I’m yet to receive an OTA upgrade.
I know I can flash with Flashtool, but I have previously received OTA updates including those with a bump on OS version (MM to Nougat 7.0) so my question is… what possible reasons are there that can be preventing me from getting this specific OTA upgrade? BTW, I'm not rooted.
Thanks in advance!
are you rooted?

Not rooted, and not rooted as well when previous OTA upgrades were received (of course)
Hello, if you are customized IBE you must recevie the OTA , connect the phone to computer and open Sony Xperia companion and you shoud recive the update....then update.
Another way is reset the phone to factory and you will recive via OTA, but you will lose all the data .

Though that wouldn't be an Over The Air update...

Some receive instant OTA , others slower, ( i rember something about first few days only some receive ota, and the next 15 days alll get the ota.)
Also can you post a screenshot with the customized ibe?

Sure, there you go (and 15 days have passed, I believe).
So is something weird, there's no 39.2.A.0.422-R6C for your customized IBE

That's odd... no 39.2.A.0.442 on XperiCheck but I did get that one through OTA, and other customizations have it on XperiCheck (e.g., Customized BLX)
Also, just checked Xperia Companion and it says device is up to date. Any clues?
Hmm, I have an F8332 and the latest update available for that is 41.2.A.7.8. It won't install on mine for some reason (verification step fails everytime), Sony says just to wait and it'll likely work in a couple days.
Hi there!
Apologies if there is an existing thread that covers this topic but I was unable to find anything so I decided to create one.
I'm based in Australia and currently using an Xperia XZ F8331 that is branded by my telco, Telstra.
What I would like to know is the following:
1. Where can I find official Sony ROMs? I would like to remove all traces of the Telstra branding, software, etc. and install the same ROM as would ship on the handset if purchased directly from Sony.
2. If there is such a ROM resource available and I successfully flash my handset, will I receive future software updates via OTA notifications as soon as Sony pushes them out into the world or will I still be waiting for my carrier to test and release their own update?
3. Are there any potential downsides from removing all traces of my carrier on my handset?
Essentially, I want my handset to be identical to one purchased directly from Sony with future updates still downloadable automatically and as quickly as Sony releases them.
Many thanks in advance for the help!

1. You can download them in "XperiFirm" software. However, to my experience, it's best to use XperiFirm that's inside Flashtool's latest version. It will only work on latest version (0.9.23.2). You can find it at flashtool's website (here) and then you need to update to latest by replacing x10flasher.jar
2. Short answer: No. In order to flash another ROM you need to unlock your device. It's better to backup your unique DRM keys before unlocking. You will always be able to update your ROM, however OTA will never work again, unless you go back to everything stock.
3. Absolutely not. In fact it's even healthy

Not true for stock ROMs flashed with flashtool. You only need to unlock if you are flashing a custom ROM, or one based on stock that has been modified in some way. Flashtool can only flash completely stock ROMs in flashmode using files downloaded direct from Sony servers that are completely unmodified. Flashtool does NOT require you to unlock the device in order to do this.
Once you have flashed a FTF on flashtool you WILL still receive OTA updates.
A while back i had tried installing the android pie update for my samsung s8+ in canada and of course it did not work. As always samsung takes 100000 years to put out an update and its still not here. Anyways i havent received any updates since and my software version is probably not right. I was wondering if it will automatically update when android pie comes out or if it wont update at all. Also the device security isnt working so thats a bad thing thats why i want to try and revert it. Thanks, sorry for the unclarity if any.

And the software for which version did you flash exactly? I assume you have a G955W variant? If so then it should be as easy as downloading the latest firmware from fw.updato.com or search Google for Samfirm and use it to download the latest firmware for your phone. Flash via Odin and it should be back to normal.
