Forget flashing a rom on it, there's countless threads on it. Getting root permission alone would satisfy me. I got the xz at an extremely good price (170USD) but not being able to root it sucks.
I believe you can root this one. Once you have unlocked your bootloader, the rest is the same process as F83xx.
But make sure to backup your TA before unlocking.
edit : rooted my SO-01J Oreo and I finally removed all Japanese apps.

I am planning to post a rooting procedure for Xperia XZ SO-01J this weekend.
Just to summarize,
- I downgraded my XZto Marshmallow to backup my TA.img.
- Update your SO-01J to Oreo 8.0 via Xperia Companion (since no ftf for Oreo) and unlocked my bootloader.
- install TWRP 3.2 and factory reset via TWRP and flash the patcher by @AdrianDC.
- pull the kernel.img via adb or terminal via TWRP. I prefer TWRP, and make sure to use an external SDcard since the
internal storage is not mounted at this moment.
# dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot of=/sdcard1/kernel.img
- use the rootkernel V5. 23 (unofficiall 2.5) by @serajr to patch the your kernel.img
- flash the created boot.img using adb and restart to boot up
- install magisk to root your device
- all done.
****And please click thumbs-up if it works ****
Do you have some information about where i could buy the japanese(ntt docomo variant especially) variants of Sony phones online? Used phones also ok.

I bought this DoCoMo XZ from a friend from Japan. Aside from NTT DoCoMo bloatware, it has a DTV so you can watch your TV shows on the go.

Any app that accesses the system (busybox, exposed ect.) Must be flashed via recovery. This method works fine on my device. Although each time the recovery must be flashed and once the appropriate apps are flashed, must be the stock kernel flashed via flash tool again, but this is at the moment the only way to get a system with the appropriate apps and root privileges!
sorry for the bad english

Your post raised a few questions:
1. Did you root your D2303 running Android 4.4.2? How?

You can root your phone without unlock the bootloader.
You can unlock the bootloader in Any versión (i did in lollipop) you can do it with Sony way or with flashtool

can you tell me what is the easiest way to root my M2 with Lollipop? how do you did it?
so the bootloader unlock is only need for flashing Custom-Roms?

The easiest way is in this case NOT the safest way! KingRoot should do the trick on 18.6.A.0.182 FW but it also sends your phones IMEI to a cloud in China. I wouldn't recommend it!
I did it like this:
1. Use XperiFirm to download and FlashTool to create (e.g.) D2303_18.3.1.C.1.17_CE.ftf [4.4.4 Kitkat] (or search on this forum for it)
2. Flash: (e.g.) D2303_18.3.1.C.1.17_CE.ftf with FlashTool
3. Unzip & use: rootkitXperia_20150926-20151005.zip to root
4. Unzip & use: XperiaM2-MultiRecovery-PhilZ-TWRP-CWM-0.8.zip to install multi-recovery
5. Use XperiFirm to download and FlashTool to create 18.6.A.0.182 FW FTF for your D2303, country and provider (or a customized version)
6. Use PRFCreator, UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and XperiaM2-MultiRecovery-PhilZ-TWRP-CWM-0.8-flashable.zip to create flashable pre-rooted zip with multi-recovery
7. Reboot into TWRP recovery (when the cyan led glows push/press Volume UP)
8. Flash flashable pre-rooted zip with multi-recovery (using TWRP)
9. Flash zip: ric_disabler-flashable.zip in case you don't have full root access (using TWRP)
Before you begin make sure you have downloaded all needed files and made a backup from all your important phone data!
so the bootloader unlock is only need for flashing Custom-Roms?

so after the searches, I did I found out the following:
1- first, since I'm on android 7.0 I need to downgrade to 6.0 in order to backup my TA ! wich I can do via Flashtool
2- I do the backup
3- I root the phone and restore the backup I did
4- I upgrade to android 7 and then I'm good to go!
my questions:
1-what will I lose after unlocking the bootloader? and if I restored the TA backup will that count as if i didn't unlock the bootloader?
2- how I will root the phone? with a custom kernel or is there any other way? and if with a kernel any advice?
3-shall I do the root before upgrading to android 7? or before? and will I be able to still get updates after the root? or i will have to do it through Flashing Ftf of the new updates?
4-anyone is running Xposed framework?
thanks so much in advance ))
im not sure what we lose after bootloader unlock.. From what i read on the androplus kernel thread, if you use androplus there is some amount of drm functionality restored. there is no clear consensus from what i have read, and being a ex-Z3 user im still paranoid about this as in Z3 without the DRM camera is basically ****.
no xposed for nougat yet - so that's out of question.

For every upgrade (via SONY's FTFs):
1. Flash FTF via Flashtool
2. flash suitable recovery and AndroPlus kernel (look in this forum and follow the instructions on AndroPlus' website)
3. boot into recovery, flash SuperSU and whatever you need
There should be a possibility to flash the devicekey (not the whole TA-partition!) to another partition to get the whole DRM-enchillada back. That does not work for me since it is not included in the FSC as of today.

SONY has pushed update 32.4.A.0.160 for XPERIA Z5 E6833 / E6853 and E6883 which is on Android 7.1.1 (unexpectedly)
THOSE WHO NEVER ROOTED THEIR Z5 / Z5P AND POSSIBLY HAVE LOCKED BOOT LOADER MUST READ THIS
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5...ting-xperia-z5-z5p-variants-drm-keys-t3437902
THOSE WHO ALREADY HAVE ROOTED Z5P CAN PROCEED because you are already aware of
- method of extracting TA.img either via DIRTYCOW SCRIPT (android6) and ivoryroot (android 5x)
- flashing Nougat by latest flashtool v0.9.23.2 (also knows replacing xjar files to make flashtool uptodate )
- ALL mother board and related drivers are installed
- you already have downloaded FTF 32.4.A.0.160 of your VARIANT/region and
- ftf downloaded by XPERIFIRM tool (recommended)
the twrp installed stock modified kernel of 32.4.A.0.160 can be found at

Sir
I have updated E6883.... .img file at https://mega.nz/#F!uVBgFTwQ!xYufkAlsDsajEIEJ3BoDDg
after putting superSU in sd card , kindly flash it
just incase, if device goes in to bootloops or softbricks
holding power+volumup for 15 seconds will make the device vibrate THRICE , and on second vibration. releasing fingers IMMEDIATELY will switchoff the device for you to connect in flashmode/fastboot mode to flash the roms/kernels again

if you are installing phh superuser then
1. flash superuser-r259.zip from twrp
2. boot and install phh_superuser...apk
then reboot.
however i am personally using superSU. since on phh_superuser i was unable to give /system RW access
Just unable to boot into TWRP recovery. It stuck on splash screen and the LED is yellow.I tried the rootkernel in this thread too:https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/firmware-32-3-0-372-certified-android-7-t3537948
and got same problem. My device is z5p dual,E6883,I have already install the 32.4.A.0.160 firmare downloaded from xperifirm.Root access and DRM fix works perfectly, the only problem is that I cannot boot into TWRP.I dont know what's wrong.Any advice please?
do this kernel support SafetyNet and magisk?
Hi!
I don't understand this, if the kernel has the drm fix, is necessary downgrade the phone and backup the original drm? Or can I install this kernel, twrp and root directly the stock 7.1.1 version?
