Hi There,
Thinking of picking up the Honor 8 while I travel to the States. Just wanted to ask someone to clear up my confusion. So basically my question is:
Is the Honor 8 compatible with any Quick Charger ?
I know that most people have been saying that only the provided wall charger will quick charge the Honor 8 but , please excuse my ignorance/lack of knowledge here, if the provided charger is 9V/2A/18W , wouldn't a generic charger with those specs quick charge it as well ?
Also does the USB Type-C cable come into play with regards to the charging speed.
Thanks for any help. Just want to know because I'd like to have piece of mind that if I lose/break the provided wall charger I could buy another without paying the price of an Honor-Branded one.
Thanks

In Theory, regardings power supplies you're right.
The problem is more advanced: The charger provides 5V, (maybe even limited to 500mA) until the device handshakes successfully with the charger, and tells "hi there, I'm speaking hisilicon fast charging protocol. Oh, you do too? Great. How is the weather over there? Okay, enough smalltalk, please provide me with 9V, up to 3A, i can handle that without going into a puff of smoke".
The charger then reassures every 100ms or so, that the device connected is still the same... and keeps providing 9V
With a QC based charger, it might go "hi there I'm speaking hisilicon fast charging protocol. Oh sorry, i don't understand QC2.0. I can provide you with this legacy charging protocol". And the charger should recognize that it can provide 5V,2A - which will help, but won't be quite as fast as quick charging...
Lets see when Anker or some other company bring out a dual-lingual charger...
You should go with huawei's charger.

Thank you for your question regarding the Honor 8 and it's capabilities with quick charging. Your phone comes with a 9 V 2 A high voltage quick charger. It also supports 5 V 2 A chargers. Make sure you buy an official Huawei 9 V 2 A charger; unofficial quick chargers will not work properly. If you need a quick charger, you can buy one from Huawei Vmall or official Huawei experience shops. NOTE: The FRD-L02 shipped to the Indian market comes with a 5 V 2 A charger. (NS)

they should, considering the fact that other quick chargers wont work(qualcom certified)
95% they'll make it available
Nope, you have to use the charger that comes along with the Honor 8 in order to quick charge your Honor 8.

So if i use moto g4 quick charger 3.0 will there any harm??
One thing i noticed that that charger we got with box can charge quickly than moto e2 charger despite they looks same and power output is also same.....

Snapdragon 410 does support QC 2.0, but Motorola had decided to disable it in our device by default. Also, using a Quick charger on your phone won't harm it. Instead, the charger should reduce the current according to the device connected. I recommend that you use the default charger that came with your phone to avoid any issues, just in case.

I'm the proud honor of Honor 8 I stole for 150 bucks! I go to charge it and I see that it has a LG charger with similar, but not same specs as the OEM. Is this significant in the charging capability or how fast it would charge?
yes, but other chargers with same 9V/2A quick charging won't charge the device as fast as the stock honor charger with 9V/2A quick charging.

You sure it's not just your unit having this problem? When you charge the phone let's say from 20% left, how long was the estimate for it to get fully charged?

I think that's fast charge already because H8 only managed to receive charge at 2A maximum. in theory it would take 90 minutes to fully charge a 3000mah battery but usually maximum charge only occurs from 0-50% then it slows down gradually.
Mine also take 1 and half hour to fully charge when plugged in to stock 2A charger.

you can buy it from honor india website...its available for 750 only
Yes it makes a difference.. As i have both the chargers.. The old one i.e the one came withthe phone charges phone way slowly.. And the phones charge decreases while playing high intensity games like MC5 etc even with charger plugged in to phone. Woth new 9v qiuck charger o bought from honor india website all problems are now solved.. Battery charges way quicker now..

I suggest getting just the power brick and not the USB cable, because the cable isn't of great quality (mine got spoilt in a month). However, the power brick is 100% original and works brilliantly.
AliExpress goods take approx a month to deliver though.
Has anybody here ever tested these combo to do dash charge? I bought OPPO VOOC wall charger and VOOC cable, first it does dash charge, but after 20 second, it stop charging.
I have an oppo vooc charger as well as an oppo vooc cable, works just fine for me, maybe you got counterfeit goods.
