NO I think its different file safe just hide files whereas private space is the separate phone system different.... I'll try to post a picture of what I mean I'm on Oreo and it seems to work for me. I wonder do you know what the notification assistant is?

This is what I'm talking about

I'm missing that strange ,it's not worth me factory resetting I don't think because huawei will be removing the beta 3 november.sirry don't know what notification assistant is I'll be sure to let you know if i find out.cheers sean

If you have your default storage set to SD card, it will not show up. Default storage has to be set to internal.

Thanks Philly sorted

For getting private space on Huawei mate 9 oreo.
go to Settings > Security & privacy > PrivateSpace > ENABLE

After you create a Private Space, you can only enter it's settings when currently on the actual Private Space.

Move Files between Private Space

Hello
I moved from Note 5 to Mate 9 which is impressive. However, in Note 5 I used to activate Private Mode via fingerprint but this option is not available anymore in Mate 9 although some sites are talking about the same steps.
Since I can't find an option for Private Mode, using "Private Space" can I move files from user 1 to user 2 to keep them private?
I hope I explained the question correctly.
Thanks,

Anything we need to do about the latest WPA2 vulnerabilities that were found?

This is the story I'm referring to for those who haven't heard yet.
I just got my Note 8 on Saturday and did get a carrier update later in the day, not sure if it was related to this. Anyone have any info on what we need to do or are we waiting for AT&T/Samsung to release a patch?
From the link:
As a result, all Android versions higher than 6.0 are also affected by the attack, and hence can be tricked into installing an all-zero encryption key. The new attack works by injecting a forged message 1, with the same ANonce as used in the original message 1, before forwarding the retransmitted message 3 to the victim. In each case, the attacker can force a targeted device to re-install an already-in-use shared key, downgrading the key.

This will require an update from Samsung. Not holding my breath on that happening anytime this year.
Avoid public wifi like the plague. Even after the patch I'd stay away from it.
Also this includes turning on your hotspot in public. At least until a patch is pushed out.
That will keep you safe for about 6 months until the next bug is discovered. It's the nature of IT security.
One thing that is a great idea and an awesome feature on Samsung is the "Secure Folder" app.
You can use it to store pictures, files, apps, etc. They are encrypted by the KNOX container and require a pin or password to open the secure folder.
If you move let's say, your private pictures, your banking app, and any sensation files (eg credit cards, ID, passport, etc) into the app even if your phone gets compromised you should be okay.
*as a disclaimer I work in ISO for a fortune 100 company. More than will to offer any advice about protecting your phone, computer, wifi etc.
Thanks I didn't think about using the Secure Folder. I just moved (not copied) a photo into there to test it but the photo still shows up in the gallery, yet I don't see it when browsing for it from within the Secure Folder.
When something is within this folder, can it still be accessed from outside the app or do you always need to open the app, type in the password and then access it? Like could I still attach photos from there easily into a message/email or do I need to go in there, move them out of the folder, attach them, them move them back? Hope that makes sense.

No if it moved correctly it should be hidden unless you are in the secure folder.

Phone Encryption on Android 8 (oreo) on Huawei Mate 10 Lite

Hello,
I have a rather interesting question, if someone (expert only please) can help, it would be very much appreciated
I have bought a new phone (Huawei Mate 10 Lite) which already has the preinstalled Android 7 OS.
After I turned it on, I've upgraded it to Android 8 (and EMUI 8) via the Software Updater.
So now, I am running Android 8 on Huawei Mate 10 Lite.
Until here, everything works like charm
The problem starts here: I'm used to having my ENTIRE user data partition (phone/device, call it as you wish) ENCRYPTED.
I am using my phone very much in different environments and if I accidentally loose it or it gets stolen, I want to ensure that nobody can access my private data by any possible means.
So, when I go to the classical place for encrypting phones: Settings -> Security & Privacy, I noticed that the "Encrypt Phone" option is MISSING.
I have only "Encrypt SD Card", but I do not have an SD Card, nor do I use one. I use only the internal flashdisk memory.
I even turned on the Developer mode and searched for that specific setting, but I cannot find it.
I googled about this problem and what I found even deepens the mystery, as there are some contradicting information and it doesn't paint a clear picture on how the hell encryption works on Android 7/8...
- In one place, it says that starting with Android 6 phones, the option of encrypting the entire phone is no longer available, as all phones with Android 6+ preinstalled are already encrypted !
Bump ! Really ?
- Somewhere else, someone says that the Full Disk Encryption (FDE) has been replaced with File Encryption and Google is slowly marking full disk encryption as obsolete...
I found the File Encryption on my phone and I have the possibility to create a file encryption "folder" or "vault" or what is that, but I do NOT want that, as I want the entire partition to be encrypted !
I am using VPNs, SSH keys, Pictures, E-mail accounts, Web browsers with stored passwords, basically the entire user partition contains secrets ! I cannot move everything to a secure container... maybe I forget something, and that something remains unencrypted ?
I cannot move everything to a secure SD Card or to put it in that encrypted "folder", because some secrets are files, some secrets are particular app settings or credentials.
Yes, I read about the fact that in Full Disk Encryption mode, a PIN is required for startup (as I had with my previous phone, which was great for me, by the way), and that PIN can prevent the booting of some basic functions of the device or the functioning alarms or something like that.
To tell you honestly, I don't care about those functions. I only want ENTIRE device encryption with one single PIN code.
I have already changed my SIM PIN (which is another thing, it doesn't relate to this), and I generated a phone PIN & Fingerprint on my phone, and set my phone to Lock after 15 seconds.
For everyday usage, the PIN/Fingerprint is enough to keep others from accessing my content, but what about plain disk access (using some other tools that read the flash disk) if I loose my phone or if my phone gets stolen ?
I liked the previous encryption method.
So, basically, I want to encrypt ENTIRE partition (FDE encryption) with one PIN, not SD Card encryption, not other file encryption solutions, not special vaults, not other stuff... I want my classic encryption back !
Please explain me:
1. Are all the new phones starting from Android 6 already encrypted ?
1.1. If so, why is there a file encryption tool to further encrypt particular files if the user partition is already encrypted ?
1.2. If so, what is the encryption key ? or what kind of encryption is that which does not require a PIN or something ? that means that the key is stored in plain text ? (if I don't offer it a PIN, it means that it must read the key from other places in order to decrypt the data (key that can be read by a thief, too?))
2. If Android 6+ phones are not encrypted, how can I implement full device encryption, and why the hell does Google abandon this kind of full, quick and not-giving-extra-security-thoughts encryption ?
I would kindly ask only experts to reply me.
If you are an expert or you know these things for sure, please reply.
I need a correct, documented (if possible), answer, because the security of my phone depends on it !
Thank you !
Well... anyone ??? Is this really such a hard question ???
I was getting so excited when I read your question, because I am looking for the exact same answer. But then I saw there aren't any answers.
Please can someone who knows about this answer this for us?

I'm not an "expert" but I can tell you your data is safe & encrypted by default, that is why you can't find an encryption setting.
As I understand it
1. Yes (Google makes manufacturers sign agreement)
1.1 The data is encrypted on phone but you may choose not to lock it. Also you may allow some other people access to your phone even if you set screen lock or it's possible somebody may get your phone before it automatically locks, that is why here is a separate encryption system that some people may want ho use to encrypt certain files. (I'm assuming this is what you are referring to as I have never used Huawei)
1.2 Yes the system can generate it's own key from it's internal information automatically (note also, if you put in a simple passcode it is just one element the phone will use to generate a long key, so hackers can't crack a simple passkey to get into your phone as it also uses it's internal data to generate the key)
2, All your data is encrypted, ok maybe not all eg if you consider an alarm time your data, as some apps may be able to access limited data eg alarm times.
A quick search produced these two articles that are not overly technical & also show the numerous security improvements that all go to make your phone more secure. I hope it puts your mind at rest (though of course nothing can be guaranteed 100% secure if a well resourced group has physical access to your phone eg a government)

Hacked Galaxy S10e

Hi Everyone
I'm assume my phone been hacked or cloned I'm not sure what's the right word for it but I need help to find out If I'm right or I'm just being paranoid.
Galaxy S10e SM-GF970F
Phone status Official
One UI version 3.0
Android version 11
I find in my battery usage my secure folder using 381 MB of data what I hardly use, , 324 MB Foreground, 57 MB background.
In the secure folder checking wi-fi data usage , on the bottom has "something" named 15010286 what used 5,41 kb data in the past week..
Some of my setting are changing, like I had swithed off the option to show up the letter or number when I typing passwords etc.
When I checking battery usage in settings, I scrolling down and after couple seconds its jump up the top again.
My question would be: any program what would find the program what the intruder used?
How can be sure if Im hacked or how can I clean my phone??
Thanks
Sounds less like a hacker and more like just a buggy phone xD. This behaviour is in fact strange but I would doubt that this is a hacker. Maybe you've downloaded some cracked apks from the internet and accidentally downloaded malware.
Maybe this isn't the best way but try this:
Go to device care, device security (or something similar) and scan your phone. If there is an obvious malware the scan will detect it. if not, I cannot help you.
Personally I store everything on my sd card so I would just do a factory reset. Idk about you.
Thanks for the reply.
I have SOPHOS "antieverything" on my phone, the only app what didn't come from google play was the latest Vanced.
Device care/device security shows no malware.
I have 100 GB data on my phone, my SD card encrypted, same as my phone. Any advice what is the easiest way to save all those pictures and videos before I factory reset my phone? Preferably direct to an USB as most likely my PC and home network hacked too.
Thanks

just connect your device to PC and do MTP connection and transfer all files (pictures, videos, music, hentai folder .. etc) to PC
fast and efficient
Thanks for that.
I can save my stuff but still won't know if I been hacked or not??

[Solved] System data is taking up huge amount of space

As already lined out in this Post I have a big problem with my storage. I can not find what is taking up so much space. It is really becoming a problem now that HALF of my storage is taken by this. I rooted my phone now to dig deeper, but no success so far. I tried using adb shell with
Code:
du -hd 1 -H . 2> /dev/null | sort -n -r
(but somehow it does not sort correctly by size??). I appended screenshot of the /data folder. The 58GB ./media is my legit data, so thats fine. But what are the 44GB combined from ./user ./data ./user_de? Inside there are just folders named "10" or some other numbers. At the bottom of it just lots of android folders (second screenshot)
I just dont know what to do any more. Please help and/or direct me to someone who can help here.
p.S.: Completely wiping the phone will probably work, but I want to avoid that. Also this will happen again if I dont find the root cause of this issue.
Have you enabled system logs or system tracing under Developer Options? Disable logs as the 1st step. If you have a folder called OnePlus on your internal storage, look for what's there inside it, and delete it.
User 10, 11, 12.... are either dual apps, work profile or multiple users, if you have enabled any.
Thx for helping!
I did not find any folder called oneplus located in the root directory "/". Or is it located somwhere deeper? When I connect my phone and opening the "internal storage" via mtp there is also no oneplus folder. I am on lineage os btw, maybe that changes things
I do have a workprofile, so that makes sense
My phone is german so its hard to find settings described in english. The only options I found (loosley translated) are "Logging-buffersize" set to 256000, "permanently save loging data on device" set to disabled, under Autofill "loginglevel" set to disabled
I also found "activate detailed logging" vie settings search but when I click on it, it just puts me to the developeroptions without highlighting anything. This option is not existing there. Strange. This seems like exactly what would cause the most logging I guess

System size increasing and occupying pretty much the entire internal storage is a known problem on OnePlus phones. The reason for it is almost always logs. User somehow enables logging by mistake and it ends up eating into all available free space.
It's been a while since I played around with these things, so unable to tell you very specific info on how to disable it. But if you search on the internet, there are quite a few posts on how to disable logging (there is some combination of dialer codes that will disable logging).
See if these posts help:

Thx for sharing this.
I think this worked at least a little. Down from >50GB system data to 35.1GB. But I deleted some appdata simultaniously so I dont know if it can come from that.
The 800 dial thingy isnt working for me since I am on LineageOS (MMI-Code not found) which has all the oneplus logging disabled. At least the packages are not existent on my phone.
To summarize I've got myself some breathingroom again storagewise. But I am not really satisfied and think its not solved in the long term. I wonder which systemdata size would be normal for a new OP6.
Marking this as solved as my problem at least got better.
Thx a lot for helping!
