Hi to all users of Mate 9 MHL-AL00C00 (only Chinese version)
I'm starting this thread to investigate the problem with notifications in Chinese version of Mate 9.
As far as I know Europe & International version after B126 update solve the problem but for as, users of Chinese version in Europe etc, the only way to make it work for the moment is to lock those apps that we want notified in recent list.
So if you own a Chinese MHL-ALOOCOO Mate 9 and you want to share your founds & thoughts you can write it here
hi I just received my mate 9 with same version as you, I will let you know if I experience the same problem
not only social media, actually all app except QQ and wechat all other applications have notification problem. phone manager will kill all other apps doesn't matter what kind setting you did.
Better off Chinese version ROM.And online yellow page ..........
There is an option can't remember where in Chinese firmware,it say automatic give permission and restrictions for installed applications, maybe disable this option and remove the application that is not getting notifications and install again.
Maybe think i saw it in phone manager settings.
I confirm that the problem remains. I have the latest update MHA-AL00C00B167 and installed from HiApp the latest version of whatsapp v2.17.60.
I tried all suggestions related to notifications settings, battery optimization, lock screen..., but I receive the notifications only when I open the app. This holds both for WiFi and 4G.
However, my Gmail notifications work properly, so I tried to do some reverse engineering to see what could be the difference. My current finding is that the reason is the phone manager, and specifically the auto-launch/secondary launch management.
Gmail works if you allow both google play services and gmail. However, even if you allow whatsapp, the phone manager apparently ignores it. To verify this, if you restart the phone, you will see that the secondary launch is disabled again for whatsapp, and a record of restricted launch is present in the list you can find in secondary launch management/secondary launch records.
Anyway, I think we have to wait for a new update that will solve this.

Huawei is responsible for that mess up with notifications...
This is the 2nd Mate that screwed up... (1st was mate 8)
It takes about 3 months to get fix it in mate 8 and now again the same issue in Mate 9....ok European & International versions have fixed but what about chinice version.... How many updates we have to wait until they fix it....
Or they sending as straight to debrand to Europe or international version.... That's too annoying!
I will wait until next update... After that I have to debrand....
Come on HUAWEI make as happy & proud!!!

Hi dears,
I don't how many... but as soon launched, I placed my order for the 128GB version.
It is: http://www.royole.com/flexpai
Now... as soon payed, I didn't get any update and I raised up the case to PayPal as well.
Despite my path, I hope for you a better feedback, what's your opinion about?
Cheers.,
Love it!! Waiting for foldable tablet since years

Mine was OK, the SIM card holder tip broke off but can still insert a SIM card. I have tried many different things. I used the Chinese app to download something called "Go" when I open the app, I see Royole and references to Play store. I still cannot get it to work. I tried to create a Royole account (no luck still).
I use my Huawei phone to convert the Chinese to English (camera/hivision). They have FAQs in the app, and it implies I needed to disable two factor authentication but it doesn't work still.
I hooked up the FlexPai to ADB/Logcat to see the debug messages and I see security exceptions. So I fear we may need to root (and this is outside of my expertise).
I use the web versions of google apps as a temp workaround (outlook for email). Some apps work some apps don't.

Hi, Ive got some google functuonality installed on my flexpai (google maps is ok, playstore working but no possibility to sign in)
I am looking to install the google account apk for pie. You should have to install manually some google apk and for pie!!!
com.google.android.gms_17.1.91_(100400-247666647)-17191037_minAPI28(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk

google-play-services-16-1-53-000300-242560017.apk
Hi looks promising.
In your list of 3 apks two of them are actually the same "app" just different versions
com.google.android.gms is the same as Google Play Services.
You need this one
com.google.android.gsf_9-4832352-28_minAPI28(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
plus this version of Google maps
com.google.android.apps.maps_10.16.1-1016101040_minAPI21(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a,x86,x86_64)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
AND IT WORKS!!! great work.
I can't log in but maps works otherwise.
maybe we need to latest google account manager - looking into it.
thanks
I found an account manager for Android Pie but no luck.
I look at logs in ADB - and it seems there are permissions that are not granted
nable to get provider com.google.android.gsf.settings.GoogleSettingsProvider: java.lang.SecurityException: You need MANAGE_USERS permission to: get the profile parent
I tried to grant using ADB shell but cannot.
So in an area I don't have expertise on.
I see we can unlock our bootloader so potential for other ROMs and root to address these issues

Quick update,
Just installing this one APK
com.google.android.gms_17.1.91_(100400-247666647)-17191037_minAPI28(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
then issue these two command from adb:
adb shell pm grant com.google.android.gms android.permission.INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS
adb shell pm grant com.google.android.gms android.permission.READ_LOGS
helps a lot.
Apps like flipboard, sirius etc now work (when they didn't before).
Apps not working for me still: pushover, textnow and the google apps (where I need to login).
thanks

Yes, I could load my Gmail and YouTube by signing in. I had intentions as well to use it as a daily device however I'm experiencing connectivity challenges with wifi and my data. Royole is supposed to be sending out an update soon to address some of the challenges we in North America are experiencing.

Yes it is unlikely one can use this as their main phone, but it's close.
Google apps (or any other app) that needs to login (locally on device) will not work.
For the Youtube (Version from the Amazon store), the login is cloud based (so it works).
One can use Chrome to login to Google photos, GMail, Drive, etc (as the login is Cloud based).
For an alternative to Google Maps, try MapQuest.
Interestingly the Microsoft Apps work really well (Launcher, Cortana, OneNote & other office apps).
For Apps like Flipboard use an email account (not Google account).
See my above post on the Google Services APK to get other apps working.
Here is why I cannot use as my Main Daily Driver. I depend on apps like Pushover (doesn't work at all), Paid Google Play Store apps (PocketCasts), Some Banking Apps (it detects the Flexpai as "non compliant'), Google Assistant (I really depend on that as a developer), Some Widgets (Currency), Android Wear (Watch while I haven't tested It depends on Play Services), Focals (Smart Glasses), Duo, TextNow, Feedly.
It is a good preview to what a Huawei Phone without Google Play Store/Services will be like : )
I use it as a second device (Foldable Tablet) and I find it quite usable.

I just got update 1.0.27 a couple of days ago (It was huge just over 1.7 GB). I am in Toronto (Rogers). I don't have any connectivity issues though for Wifi I find it weak on 5 Ghz, but LTE is not bad.
Can you confirm you are able to login to GMAIL using the android app (or did you mean via a browser)?

Hello, I also Have a Huawei Mate XS and yes, I tried to do the procedure with Chat partner APP and device ID registration, but it doesn't work. You still can't login to the play store and you receive constant google play service notifications. Unusable. I've also tried to use the procedure described in the answers to the video (using Chat partner after cloning my old Huawei P30pro) but no luck.
I resolved to use the phone without google services, using APK Pure and Aptoide for missing apps.
Still there are apps that I normally use that just don't work. So far:
- Tesla;
- Couple of games I play;
- Revolut;
- Netflix;
- Gmail;
- google maps works but you can't login to google.
All in all I'm still pretty satisfied with the phone and I'm waiting for a definitive workaround for google play store.
Google package
If you have solutions plz post it
Have you tried VMOS apk? As a limited alternative there is also an app called G-Whizz plus and Gapps browser as a temporary solution.
Yes otherwise you need third party apps stores like spk mirror, f Droid, Aurora store or app suche.vone can use internet access to GMS.
VMOS don't dismiss without tryjng

Hey Guys,
I have found a way to install GMS on Mate 30 Pro, (P40 PRO, P40 LITE, MATE XS).
I have written a full tutorial and have recorded a video with all the steps.
Basically, we restore a backup with LZPlay and icebox app. Freeze Google services framework via ADB with Icebox. And authenticate with an old Google account manager.
Please use the guide on this link and let me know if there are any troubles for you (It´s in Portugueses , please use Google translate) . I have tested it more than 10 times in several models to assure everything is OK.
I am available to answer any questions you may have. Here´s a video:

One question, if you unlock the google Framework freeze, and then turn on the Play Store and disable all notifications like Gmail, Youtube, Fb and Others, you will no longer be able to receive notifications from these apps. Isn't it better to leave in the freeze Framework and use an alternative store like APKPure or Aurora Store?

You are correct. No notifications from these apps. If you don unfreeze framework apps wont run. So, better to dont have notifications than no apps.
This is only a problem for GMAIL, but you can install another email Client. Anyway it´is what it is right now.

they are just tweaks of the same method that was originated by phiphan1 in the other thread , for example they stopped using chat apk because chat apk stopped working , they didnt use island because they just use a different app store or hide notifications not fix them etc etc , every one of them fixes comes with its own little problems and the most stable fix that is available is the new one from phiphan1 who has been working on this non stop with other users
the only reason the other videos and method exsist is because phiphan1 work , i am not knocking you for sharing , you are not to know if you havent been following for the last few weeks , however i am trying to help other users who read this realise that they should bhe in the other thread because its got the latest fix and the person who kind of made all this possible is the original poster in that thread and we are lucky to have him working on this kind of stuff

in the video you/they disable notifications , this isnt a fix , it will work for a while , it could stop etc with play warning and you are just hiding the notifications which means they are still pinging in the background which affects battery etc
honestly .... the op of the other thread has been through all this for the last 3 weeks .... the latest fix with the 2 new apk files added is the best fix at the moment .... he is so far ahead of the game he is already working on the next one

Please use the guide on this link and let me know if there are any troubles for you (It´s in Portugueses , please use Google translate) . I have tested it more than 10 times in several models to assure everything is OK.
I am available to answer any questions you may have. Here´s a video:

I think you should list some credits to the user/users who came up with this concept. I understand you have a bit of a different way, but the concept is the same and some users were very active and hard working to get these things done. They deserve credit.
P.S.
Thanks for sharing!
Im still on HMS and have no intention of sideloading GMS until now... my problem is that I'm not getting any Push notifications from viber, telegram, and microsoft teams. Will this fix the issue/s?
Hi everyone.
I'm writing this for everyone having problems with notification from some apps.
Right now I not receive notification from:
1. Twitter - not at all. And I can't go into setting for Push notifications
2. Gmail - that's funny. I receive one notification a day around 8-9PM.
3. Youtube - no notifications
4. LinkedIn - no notfications
And some specific apps for my country like: Inpost and OLX.
Share what's your experience with that. Maybe we will find solution.

I am the same. Only WhatsApp gets notifications. All others don't work
I installed GMS just out of curiosity and had the same issue. It seems like one of the Core functionalities of GMS is still incompatible/not working (Firebase). You'd expect WhatsApp to always work as it uses a separate Push service protocol.
Yeah, Gmail definitely does not work. =/
I have a hunch this is all tied to using such an old version of google account manager. (v4 is only version that still works)
This problem is because you are not registered in push notification by gms. Youbhave to choose GMS or push notification for this moment.
Seems like some have got it working, see here: https://mightygadget.co.uk/how-to-install-google-play-storeon-the-huawei-p40-pro-without-notification-errors/

I wrote that. It was to disable the notification nags you get when you get GMS working - it is not in relation to receiving notifications from apps. I will look into this today though.

Nice work it was a good guide so thanks . GMS currently running on my P40 pro at the moment no major issues. I did get an error this morning regarding google account services but its gone away and not come back. I also got the autocomplete working on apps just by changing the autofill settings to google and all seems to be working fine (most probably already know this but it may be helpful to some). Only issue i have run into is Netflix is not working with the latest Software update (incompatible device) but I'm sure they will update it soon.

I have only done it via USB, but it shouldn't make any difference at all, as long as you get LZ Play and the APKs on the phone it should work fine.

Play store didn't have Netflix for me, I had to install that via APK Pure, but it works fine for me from there, it will only work in SD though.
I have had the occasional random notification that google can't log in my account, but then it carries on working as normal.

Hey mate, thank you for your work. Just a quick question, do you think Huawei can/will patch these methods in the future? I know they don't allow bootloader unlocking, but they could at least continue to allow people to sideload GMS on their phones. I already ordered a P40 Pro though so it's kinda too late now, but I'm just wondering what people think.

Good question, but there is no way of knowing for sure. I am sure it is possible this method may stop working in the future, but I doubt Huawei would be the ones to prevent it. The general consensus is that neither Huawei or Google wants to be in this situation, Google obviously earns a lot of money from people using their services and Huawei is likely losing a lot of users by not having Google on their phones. The issue will be if Google has political pressure applied to them to stop these workarounds. I don't imagine it is that hard to blacklist devices, or maybe anything running a specific chipset.

Well let's hope they keep it working like this indeed .
Another question @MightyGadget, what do you think of the security implications using this method, considering the modded apps that are being used etc.? Is it safe to use as a daily driver with all kinds of personal stuff on it?

With all due respect, what can happen? Who cares about what you and I do on our phones?

Well, aside from installing some apps that might be stealing your credit card details and username/passwords for other apps there is nothing else really ...
I was too tempted to buy the P40 pro after previously owning the P30 pro, but the lack of google services made me change my mind. It's a brilliant phone, sadly.

if you really thinking about seucirty or privacy you wont be using google at all that just doesnt mix. im sure google knows more about you than your parents at the moment.
2nd are you not using 2fa for your bank or your accounts? im sure even somebody tries to login your account with 2fa enabled they have like 0.1% they can access it and make payments for you.
Well, I'm not refering to google, because yes, they know more about me than myself, but when you install the chinese google play services you really don't know what else you are installing. A keylogger would be a fine alternative to steal all your data ... Just a thought.
