SD card location?? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I just installed an SD card in my S8+, and I cannot find it within root explorer. I keep reading on forums that the location is mnt/extsdcard, but there is no such directory... in fact, I can't find any directory with anything labeled extsdcard.
Android recognizes the SD card and I can access it and see it within settings, but I just can't find it in root explorer.
Can someone help me out?
Thanks!

I'm not rooted so it's not letting me access root dir. =/ Do I have to be rooted to access the SD card dir??

Some file viewers let you see root but not enter. But just look for mnt/sdcard

I found it... it's actually located in /storage/####-####
I'm not sure if this is new to Android 7.0... it doesn't make much sense, but that's where it is. Every SD card has its own unique [4 digit alphanumeric - 4 digit alphanumeric] signature.

No that's not new to 7.0. It's the same location on my old galaxy s5 running 6.0.1 with a unique number too

Interesting. You learn something new every day! This phone replaced my Note 5, which didn't have external storage... and I had a Note 3 before that, which had the SD card in a completely different location.

External sd in Root Explorer

For some strange reason, I can't find my external sd card listed in Root Explorer. In my Note 5.3, it's under /sdcard/external_sd, but I don't see the external sd folder in my Note 10.1. I can find the card listed under settings>storage>sd card, and I can also use My Files app to locate the extSdCard, but I just can't locate it in Root Explorer! :crying:
This is so bizarre!
Check the MNT folder.

Thanks! Found it at long last. Wonder why it's not listed the same way as for my Note 5.3?

[Completed] note 4 not able to use micro sd

Hi. I'm new to this so can someone please help me out.
I have a Verizon Samsung note 4. It is running on the lollipop OS. I haven't tried anything in awhile with the micro sd card since I had my note 2. Anyway I recently found that I can not delete files, move files, or write to the SD card. Every time I try to delete a file, I am prompt the file was deleted successfully. But it hasn't been cleared. Also I can download music to my card.
I've read there is a fix to gain functionality of the sd card again. I've read some posts that a similar problems but they have either a different phone and using KK OS. I haven't seen anything about the Note 4 using the Lollipop OS.
Any help would be much appreciated. I am computer savvy, but cell phones are a horse of a different color.

Internal / SD shared memory - can't access files anymore but still there

Hello everyone,
I have a very strange problem that I got yesterday evening. Usually, I can find myself the solution or with the help of search forms or google but this is very strange and I need expert of Android. That's why I am asking it here.
I have a Vernee Thor E (the model of the phone is not needed I think) and I have a shared memory between my internal memory of 16 GB and a micro sd card of 16 GB. Yesterday, some apps didn't launch and I first thought I had to reboot my phone. But when I did that, some appls disppeared from my phone and all photos and videos. So it was like my SD card was not detected anymore.
Now, the SD card is detected again (and also as a shared memory) but I cannot access anymore the old data (about 8 GB). So the sd card is half used and I see that 8GB is used but I cannot access the data. Files are hidden. And as it is a shared memory, a computer cannot read these data.
Is there a way to have access to these files or restore the old link ? With some adb commands or something else ?
Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you very much. So, now I hope that the system didn't delete the key. I will try this this week and of course, I will come back here to explain what I did if it can help other people.

There are other methods here for various states of sdcard/adoptable storage corruption. Try finding one that specifically suits your scenario based on what is or isn't accessible and how the card is or isn't being detected.
The solution might be different or even easier depending on the specific conditions involved.

File path to external SD card?

On a Samsung Galaxy S7 running Lineage OS, I'm trying to have Firefox set the default download location to the external SD Card.
I have already made the following changes:
About: config
browser.download.folderList = 2
Created string entry "browser.download.dir"
Then entered the file path provided by the "My Files" explorer of "My Files/SD Card/Download" but new files are still being downloaded to the default location on the internal storage.
So my question is what is the correct file path since this one is obviously wrong or simplified for some reason.
Thanks in advance.

It can't be done for an individual folder unless the whole sd is formatted as the internal storage. However the built in Samsung browser has an option in advanced settings to download direct to the sd card.
Browser>menu>settings>advanced>save content to>sd card

Yes it can and I have found confirmation from other users that it has worked.
I'm not looking for opinions or other browser recommandations. I just need the correct file path to the SD Card so that I can complete the final step.
Thanks....

Already told you Batman, it cannot be done they way you're asking.
The whole card has to be converted to internal storage end of!
Why not ask one of these confirmed experts how they did it? Because they didn't that's why, they talking rubbish.
p.s. it's very easy to find the path to any folder on the sd card. In file explorer keep finger on folder until menu appears, choose properties and Hey Presto! File path displayed.
The problem may be the version of Firefox you are using. I am using Ver 44.0.2 and have full access to my SD card. After updating past that version SD access was lost. I reinstalled the older version and regained SD card. Sounds to be a permission thing?

Version 44 is several years old at this point and has many security flaws. Not to mentioned, mozilla failed to renew a certificate that most web extension addons were signed with so it expired and all of them became broken until version 67 where the issue was resolved.
It may very well be a permission issue. I haven't had much time to mess around with this lately but installing an older version is not a viable solution.

Maybe because your phone doesn't have a sd card u need a sd card for the phone
Not all phones have a sd card
If you're phone doesn't support for a sd card than it's just not possible

Well most apps really can't be moved to external SD-card. Only a few can.
BTW:
The mentioned Link2SD app - as it name implies - simply creates in Android OS's file tree links ( read: shortcut in Windows OS terminology ) to apps / their data what are located on external SD-card. This only will work if the external SD-card has two partitions (at least): one partition works as a regular external storage on SD-card, for pictures, music, etc.pp, the second partition ( must be ext4 formatted ) would work as the "extended real memory" or, the virtual memory, where "externally installed apps" are housed.
Since Android 6 this technique is part of Android OS: it's called Adoptable Storage.
