This question may apply to all Android or just Sony.
Does anyone know how to take a photo with voice command/ voice recognition? I'm talking about actually taking the photo not just opening the Camera app like Google Now does. I know Samsung has the "Voice cmd for apps" feature which allows for this but I can't find any setting like that on my Xperia XZ. Are there any Apps which can do this? Any way to do this with Google Now?
You'd think that by now this would be something that's pretty common on any mobile phone. I know I always find myself needing it when I'm using my other hand to take a picture of something- or for other circumstances. I think I've even used my mouth at some point to press the camera button. Lol. Any help in regard to this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The newest ver of GoogleAssistant should do this... I am not sure though.

It says online that it has that functionality, but all it does for me when I say "Ok Google- take a picture" is open up the Camera app.

Is there any way (hack) to make the camera shoot in 16x9 format?
Also, any way to have the camera upload automatically online (smugmug, in my specific case)?

I don't know about forcing 16x9 with the camera...there's probably third party camera apps that will let you.
For the automatic upload, there's an app called Tasker that sounds like it will let you do stuff like that. Modaco tweeted this just today:
Tasker IS the most amazing app ever. Whenever I think 'I wish I could do THIS' on my phone it has a way. Brilliant.

Thanks.
I looked at Tasker, but in the brief evaluation period I could not see a way to auto upload to smugmug, so i uninstalled it.
But I found an app named PicPush, which does exactly that: it pushes pics and movies you take with the phone to various sites, including smugmug.
Does anyone know of a good camera app which would do high res 16x9 photos, and also has a decent set of options? I didn't find anything I liked on Market.

Brief evaluation period? You mean the 15 minutes from the Market?
There's a week long eval period if you download and install from the dev's website. Moot point for you since you found another application, but others reading may be interested.
When I use Google Talk video chat, I switched from front camera to back camera, and now it looks like the video box is sliding off the screen. Even when I switched back to front cam, same thing. Seems related to the accelerometer, because when I shake the tablet, the video box moves. Anyone else having this issue??
Dunno if it is what I'm thinking, but try sliding the hand all the way to the left.
how on earth do you even start google talk on this thing?

Hi
I am having an issue with this navigation
Whenever I pick a location to go to and start navigating the navi voice would start talking nonsense for 5 minutes and won't shutup.
This happens whenever it announces a turn ahead or any other announcements.
It just starts talking..."Slash synthesis www. blah blah blah version 1.0 speech blah blah blah..." and so on for literally 5 minutes.
Before I used navi I did change the voice feature to samsung instead of pico, because I dont like pico voice, but I changed it back after this problem yet did not fix.
Can anyone help or have this problem?
I had this happen to me too!
I had changed the voice to the Samsung voice b/c I thought it sounded better (from the test sequences in the Settings menu)
Next time I used Navigation it did the same crazy stuff as you mentioned
Changing back to the stock Android "pico" voice fixed it.
Perhaps corruption of the Samsung software that was installed? Anyone know if there is a way to re-load the Samsung voice software? (I may reset my device anyway, so we'll see if that helps...I'll let you know!)
Thank you.
will be waiting
Sorry to be off topic, but I didn't realize you could change voices. I googled it but didn't find anything immediately. How do you change to Samsung voice?
Btw, here's a list of free "voices". I dunno if they work or not. But I'll post in case anyone else is interested.

Is your phone in "wife" mode?
(For anyone who might take offense, please sustitute "husband", "significant other" or whatever else as you see fit.)

Go to settings ->Voice input and output-> Text-to-speech settings -> and change the engines.

before i got the skyrocket i was planning on getting the SGS2 and was trolling the forums for a week or so.. i saw people complain of the exact same problem on xda (or might have been androidforums?)
might want to check there to see if they found a fix
which SGS2? att?
Also can you link me to it if possible?
yup, i was trolling sgs2 at&t forums, but i assume it applies to all sgs2's ?
anyone find a solution to this problem?
i really want to use the samsung voice instead of the pico one.
Also I couldnt find the forum with this in the other SGSII forums if someone can maybe give me a link. thank you
in android forums there are a few threads that talk about the Samsung TTS engine being broken and it seems switching back to pico fixes it.

Yes, switching back to the Pico voice works, but, man, does Pico suck. The Samsung TTS engine is much better. Wish that any of those threads, actually had some sort of fix.
I agree, Pico sucks. reason why I want to change to Samsung TTS.
I would really like to figure this out.
My previous phone was the lg options g and the one thing I loved was LG's quick memo. Is there any chance of getting it ported to the nexus 5 or is there something similar?
Sorry if this has already been done or asked, but my search came up empty.
Thanks

"Ink over apps" does the same thing sort of. It let's you write on the current screen. It's a paid app though... only one I've seen of its kind in the Google store.

Look no further than google keep. sync across devices, store photos notes etc , even use voice to dictate a meme, I find it invaluable and easier to use than evernote.

Google Keep is amazing. Quick, easy, simple, and it works. Easy to set reminders too.
I already use Google keep. However, lg quick memo works differently than that. It allows you to write over your background. For example, if I get a call from a number I don't know, I would go to call history, enter quick memo to write the number on the screen. Then tap a button which allows me to browse the phone while that number stays on the screen so I can search that number without trying to remember it or write it on paper. Its all right in front of you. Obviously there is more uses for it than that.
I still have my rooted lg optimus g so I can pull the all from there. Not sure if that will work though.

I imagine you could set this up with Tasker. Take a screenshot which triggers it to be edited with a simple image editor, draw and save. Maybe assign it all to up+power instead of down.

Just curious if there is an app that uses the infrared camera (for the iris scanner)?
The iris scanner has a fixed focal range, you can't focus with it as the focus is fixed, so it would be pointless even if there was an app!

You can use service menu (dial *#0*#) and there is an iris camera test, gonna close after a few seconds, but you can check it out.
Yeah i checked it out and it disappears fast. It would be fun to take a selfie on total darkness, if there is a way to take pictures lol.
I'm just looking for this too. I tried it and can see things farther than 1m clearly. so it would have some fun uses if there's an app could do that.
Anyone else knows if there's a way to access the camera regardless if its pointless or not?

Did you find an app?
I am aware this is an old thread, but I'm interested in an app like that too
There is actually an app
If u check latest Steve Mould youtube video he shows how this app called Open Camera can open the IR camera. It may or may not work (he was using a Google pixel 4)
