Does anyone know how to unlock the SIM for the Verizon TP2 so it can accept any SIM card?
You'll need to have been a long time customer of Verizon (although, I've read of new customers having good results) in good standing.
Call Verizon up and tell them you want to SIM unlock the phone. If they ask, tell them you're traveling overseas and want to use another provider for GSM service.
This is a very new phone for Verizon, so they may not have the instruction set for the Touch Pro2 yet (my rep didn't). My rep had to contact HTC directly for instructions, but he had both unlock codes in his computer. You can let them contact HTC, or tell them you want the codes and you'll contact HTC directly yourself if this is the case.
They should give you two unlock codes (Unlock A and Unlock B, although you should only need Unlock A).
Write down the code, turn on your Touch Pro 2.
From the homescreen, scroll all the way to SETTINGS.
Click ALL SETTINGS in the bottom left hand corner of the screen
Click the PERSONAL tab.
Click the SECURITY icon.
Enter your Unlock A code in the box and click OK/Enter.
Your phone should now be SIM unlocked!
This is how I did it. Neither AT&T or TMobile SIMs have been rejected in my TP2, but I have yet to make test calls.. I think there is a software restriction somewhere that needs to be bypassed for US based GSM, but I don't recall for sure.

hmm do you know of any online services who could give me the unlock codes?
Why do you need a service? If you're a customer in good standing with Verizon (60days or more I think) they'll give you the unlock code.
The ROM's havn't been hacked yet for the CDMA/US versions of the phones so I don't think there is anyone else doing unlocks yet.
All I had to do was send an email to Verizon from my account login page and the next morning i had the unlock code waiting for me.

just a update

The qualifications for unlock eligability is to have had service with verizon longer than 60 days, only one unlock per line in 10 months, and to have your account balance current, as well as this will void your warranty with the equipment per verizon. It does not affect insurance on the device is what I got. I got a $15 prepaid sim card from at&t due to TMobile not offering data on prepaid, unless you have a sidekick. So after successfull unlock, and my new gophone sim, I was able to make and recieve calls, and took a sec but got data services working, but restricted to edge speeds in the US of course due to the hsdpa being on a different frequency than they use in europe. But hey, my phone now has 2 numbers with a few clicks of a button, no need to even restart the device, so when I am in a building that I cant get cdma service due to the high band frequency it uses, I can then use gsm to make outbound calls, and it's cool to floss to your coworkers that your verizon phone showing the at&t network. Whats the point of having a world phone if you cant play
One upgraded device $199, one prepaid sim $15.00, sticking with verizon after the first tp was crippled, a fortune, being able to showup the iphone on almost every level, Priceless.
Being a good smartphone, there's not an app for that. hahaha

Just got my TP2 with Verizon and lovin' it. Can't wait for this to be unlocked.
I have read about unlocking the SIM card on the phone. It's nice that they will do that, but why would one want to do this? What is there to gain from it?

The big benefit for those of us who travel is that we can use a foreign SIM in our phones when in a foreign country and pay local rates instead of VZW's $2+/min charges. (on Orange when I'm in the UK I pay like 40cents/min to call the US and like 15cents/min to call the UK).
In the US and only with the Verizon phone you can also get say AT&T or TMobile service and have a 2nd local(US) phone number on it and switch between VZW & the other provider as you wish.

I sent Verizon an email on Friday afternoon and got a reply with my unlock code within two hours. It was a very nice reply too. The reason I wanted to do this was I am planning on moving to another area code and have found it much easier to get a job some place if you actually have a local number, so I'm just going to get a prepaid SIM for a while...

I got my code as well. I tried a co-workers SIM card from his iPhone 3GS running on AT&T and it worked. Too funny. The only issue was that he got 2 voice mails and a text while I had his SIM card in and now I have an unread text showing that I can't get rid of. Arrrgh. I also had 2 voice mails that were showing up as well but I got rid of those by calling my phone and leaving a voice mail. Now to just get rid of that stuck text message. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. By the way... thanks for this post. It will be handy when I travel to Europe and Mexico.

If you are comfortable editing your registry, (and have a reg edit program installed on your phone) you can go to:
HK_USER\System\State\sms\Unread\Count
Change this value to 0
That should work. (at least it does on normal sms messages, not sure if the SIM card makes any difference.)
EDIT: You may have to check "..\MMS\Unread\Count" also.

Did anyone try using data on a SIM card? I wasn't sure how to get that working.

Just curious, are you using that SIM card on a US Rhodium? I ask because I got my phone SIM unlocked via the code Verizon provides, but I've been wondering about being able to use the phone in the US with a SIM card from say AT&T or T-Mobile.
I have a question for you guys.
The SIM card that comes with your phones (both Verizon and Sprint), they are dummies right? Do your phones work if you pull em out?
Will be getting my TP2 from verizon shortly. Love the fact that we can unlock the SIM Slot and insert and Active US AT&T SIM card...not so sure I like the Edge only speeds though....
Does anyone know if we can avoid calling and just get the unlock codes posted on here or are they strictly by account?
I recently received my G2x back from LG for a faulty sim card reader and now it is still saying "invalid sim" with "MY" simple mobile sim. Now the crazy part is I used a simple mobile sim from a friend and it read it for a good 5 minutes allowed me to make a call and then it said invalid sim again.
When I called T-mobile they stated to me that apparently the phone was purchased on an installment plan and was never payed off and it is permanently blocked on the tmobile network. But as I mentioned before it allowed me to make a couple calls in a span of 5 minutes or so on the simple mobile network. So how can it make calls if it is blocked on the network?
So what can I do to make this work on the Simple Mobile network because it worked for a matter of 5 minutes before it went back to saying invalid sim card.
Would rooting the phone go and circumvent all that and allow me to use???
Please can someone help me figure this out cause everything on the phone works but I cannot seem to access the simple mobile network.

Sure based on what you stated. Pay T-Mobile for the phone and lift the restriction.
You need an unlock code. Pm jboxer.

The phone is already unlocked.....I spoke to tmobile and they are telling me the phone is "EIP" and the apparently the person who owned the phone cancelled the account and never paid the phone in full they told me that the phone would be able to work if I opened a new account I went into a tmobile store today and attempted to do that and it did not work what so ever.... This has turned into a giant mess and I basically have a paperweight as a phone because no one at the tmobile corp seems to be able to help whatsoever... I've even inquired about speaking to a manager and the reps tell me the supervisor will have to call me back and still I have yet to receive a phone call. Mind you I've been a loyal customer prior for over 5 years and never was late with payments. It truly bothers me as a consumer that something simple like this cannot be resolved and to make matters even worse that no one can give me a solid answer and just a guess and a brush off. I apologize for the rant, but this has got to stop these large cell phone companies treat customers like blind stupid sheep.

This is getting confusing. This is not what you stated in your original post.
"I recently received my G2x back from LG for a faulty sim card reader". "When I called T-mobile they stated to me that apparently the phone was purchased on an installment plan and was never payed off and it is permanently blocked." Now if it is a phone received back from LG how did someone else come involved. Pay the balance due on the phone and lift the restriction. Or contact who you purchased the phone from for help.
Okay let me clarify when I first received the phone it stated on the phone "Invalid Sim Card" so everyone I got in contact with told me to send in the phone to LG for repair for having a faulty sim card reader.
I did this and received the phone back and documentation from LG stating that they fixed the sim card reader and that it was fully functioning with a tmobile sim card.
Now when I inserted my sim card from simple mobile it was still reading "invalid sim card" so I contacted Tmobile and they stated to me doing some research that the account was being blocked due to the device being purchased on an installment plan or "EIP" as they call it and never being paid off in full.
So I asked them what can I do as far as lifting the restriction off the account and removing the IMEI block so the phone will function.. And they told me I could do nothing because the phone is listed under another persons account and they have to pay it off before the block will come off...
So, my question is what can I do am actually stuck with a paperweight... Cause this was bought for me as a gift from craigslist... Can rooting the phone bypass or can I use this on another network other than tmobile/simple mobile???

If it is blocked using the IMEI number there is nothing that you can do to get around it, unless you can get in contact with the original owner. I have found Craglist is not the best place to purchase electronics for this very reason. Wish I had better news for you. Sorry.
Did you call LG and report the problem? It sounds like they didn't fix anything. If the phone quits reading the SIM after 5 minutes that could be a short circuit.
I do agree with others who say you won't be able to use the phone with T-mobile again. The guy on Craigslist screwed you on that. But you should be able to use it with Simple Mobile with no problem.
One thing: try and find a friend who has an AT&T phone. Put his sim card in your phone and see what happens. (You could even go to an AT&T store and tell them you want an account but only if your phone works, so you need to test a Sim card in it first. See if they'll let you test one.)
I PM'd you with a bunch of troubleshooting steps for Simple Mobile. However, you really need to talk to both LG and Simple Mobile customer service to get their opinion on what is going on.

Doesn't Simple Mobile run off of TMobile? I'm not in the US but that was my assumption. If so, the IMEI is blocked with both carriers.
I would recomend staying away from custom kernels. Some swear by them, but it adds another variable when trouble shooting. If the phone is operating correctly (no defective hardware) and you follow the instructions many of the Rom's available should eliminate your issue. I do not recomend to batch reinstall your apps from TI. One at a time and test. Trouble shooting is a pain but you should be able to get beyond your current issue if your phone is not defective. We are seeing the second and third round of defective phones being sold to others as working phone. Same small number of phones passed off to some poor guy. Unfortunate but true.
Worries me a bit that it's not listed here. One person here 2 months ago said the Shield's IMEI was causing it to be recognized as a phone and consequently blocked from getting access to TMO's network.
Has anyone been able to make progress on this front??
They wouldn't set mine up when I got it about a month and a half ago. They supposedly filled out a request form to have it added to the list of supported devices, but I've heard nothing since. I've not had the time to call them back and figure out what's happened with it, maybe this weekend.

I had mine setup on the free data plan about a week ago. I brought the tablet into a T-Mobile retail location and they set it up no problem, just had to pay the $10 for the SIM card.

Holy smokes! So you got it to work. I have a TMO store along the way home from work, probably gonna hit it up if I do decide to go with the Shield!
something to note on this... I received a $20 bill statement yesterday so I contacted support and they instructed me to Use ConnectMe on the tablet to select the 200mb plan and a $20 bill credit will be applied to the account. So far I have been unable to do this because the ConnectMe page does not render properly, i'm not positive but it may be a lollipop related issue as it has the same render problem on my phone (I dont have a non-lollipop device to try on). I'll be contacting tech support later to see if they can resolve this.

Please let us know what you find with the ConnectMe issue. I have full bars but can't access the network for the same problem. It keeps wanting me to sign in but the second page doesn't render.
FYI, when plugging the sim card into my phone, it works fine. I'm posting while on that same sim card.
Thanks!
I was able to confirm that the issue with ConnectMe also occurs on KitKat, I called this in to T-Mobile Technical Support and they opened a ticket with the team responsible for ConnectMe. The representative told me most tickets are resolved within 72 hours, I would be surprised if that's the case for this situation though. I'll update when / if i hear back from them.

I got my ConnectMe issue fixed... the sim card I was using was voice only. They swapped for a data-only sim card and it worked fine... though with not-so-great reception.
Okay so I finally thought to view the source on the askew ConnectMe page and saw this message:
SIM Card Already Active
The SIM Card inserted in this device is already active on a subscription that can not be managed on this device. Please call customer care if you have any questions.
It turns out this is because the retail location had setup a postpaid data plan, and it should be a prepaid data plan. They converted the account to prepaid and I was able to login to ConnectMe, the 200mb plan had already been selected for me. I didn't have to change the SIM card for this.
Hope this helps if anyone is encountering the same issue.
This is my first time back in the world of Android use (as a daily driver) since 2013. I used to be a custom ROM-aholic, but now I just appreciate Android for what it is a mature OS that offers more flexibility than IOS. I wanted to buy a phone outright. And although they have more minuses than other carriers, I wanted to stay with Verizon.
I don't play games on my phone. The only time I ever found it to be choppy was when I used an app, albeit one that is actively updated, that did not play well with my phone. Headset Button Controller either doesn't seem to work with 6.0 or has issues with Moto phones. . It always did a nice job of playing non-google audio apps when then screen was locked. My all-time indespensible Android app is Dogg Catcher (yes, I am podcast nerd). I started having weird freezes on my G4 Plus when using the Headset BC app, especially when unlocking. Once I removed the app, the problems seemed to go away. Setting Dogg Catcher to stay alive seems to fix my problem.
One issue I have is with the VoLTE or what Verizon calls Advanced calling (a subset of a feature Verizon calls HD voice). Apparently, the phone supports VoLTE out of the box. I looked into the chipset specs. However, it seems that Verizon uses a non-standard implementation of HD Voice. Is that correct? I do not see Advanced Calling in my settings menu. I decided to try an ATT sim for kicks. I was able to get LTE (I live in an area with a strong ATT LTE signal). However when I went to make calls -- my phone dropped down to "H" -- 3G -- allowing calls and data. Yes, I know that ATT offers 3G calling / data simultaneously and verizon doesn't.
I talked to two senior level verizon technical service reps this week. Both essentially told me that every carrier implements HD Voice a little differently. The XT1644 phone registers in Verizon's database however, they are not showing that it supports HD Voice. I tried to explain to them that unlocked phones like the Moto X Pure, Nexus 5, and this one -- will not support the fullness of HD Voice, but can set to allow advanced calling. They told me that this wasn't available on their system yet for this model.
For some of you non-US G4 / G4 Plus users -- have you gotten VoLTE working yet? Will it really take a collaboration between Moto and major carriers as I was told?
I have Verizon. The phone supports and does indeed work on Verizon VoLTE. Settings > More > Cellular Networks > Enhanced 4G LTE Mode. Should be on by default. Works fine for me, allows me to call and use data over LTE at the same time.
AT&T does not support VoLTE on non-AT&T phones, so your calls will always fall back to 2G/3G.
At this time, yes VoLTE does depend on a collaboration between the carrier and the OEM. Hopefully that doesn't remain the case.

It was a huge fiasco for me with Verizon this week. One CSR told me that I needed a new SIM to get this feature. Local corporate Verizon store would not give me a sim because I was not adding a feature to my account and I wasn't buying anything. I end up talking to two senior level TSR representatives. One didn't really want to help me. The other one said she would submit a request to the "DSM" ( I may be spelling it wrong) department to have this feature turned on. She was supposed to call me back Friday and did not.
I am not wanting this for kicks, I can use this feature in my work. I tried the feature in Settings >> More >> and it does not show up.
Previously, I was using the 2015 (prepay) Moto E on my post pay account. That phone does not support voLTE. I am using the same SIM now. Verizon would not give me a SIM at _____ corp. store. I may go to another corp store if it will make a difference. Also, I cannot add HD voice / advanced calling online in My Verizon for this line.

Congrats on getting everything working!
I really wanted to US pre-order the G4 Plus 64 GB version and wanted to grab one on release day. I'm seeing way to many issues on connectivity, especially new customers. Verizon and AT&T would be new accounts for me. The issue of only a corporate store can hook up the phone with the rep placing the sim into a demo phone and things might work in a day or so by Moto rep on their main forum. For a $300 phone and a new service, case, screen protector that are all musts. They need to get their issues fixed. It wasn't a surprise this phone was coming out. I've been dealing with a junk no service at home scenario for 4 weeks now waiting on the G4 Plus. I work 12 hour shifts 3rd shift and I can't really find time to drive around back and forth and hope and pray a rep can do some twists and turns with a sim sadly

This is an issue with Verizon, not with the phone. There isn't much Motorola can do about it besides get mad at Verizon.
There aren't any connectivity issues, the issue is rather with Verizon activating a new SIM card in the device. The workaround is not restricted to corporate stores, but corporate stores do give SIMs for free, while 3rd party authorized retailers make you pay for SIMs. If you're signing up for new service anyway, there's no need to drive around back and forth, just do it all in one go.

I know the whole situation and all the options as you basically just re-worded what I said in a few sentences. I've been on the official Moto forums. Not everybody has a working g4 or g4 plus phone right now. It doesn't matter if the phone working on Verizon is a Motorola issure or a Verizon issue. You still can't order a phone and pop in a sim card with a new account and have a working phone. I haven't had to go to a cell phone store to get a phone working in 9 or 10 years maybe longer. Even from memory when the Samsung Blackjack, Moto Razr and 09 IPhone (3g or 3gs can't remember) was plug and play. 2016 buying a phone and having issues from day 1 can't be tolerated from me or anyone else. All these manufacturers, companies, etc are getting clumsy and lazy. Especially the last 2 years. There was a time you could buy a phone and it have no bugs whatsoever. I've owned many phones like this. Maybe 6-12 months issues start to happen. Everything is rushed, From planning to parts to google OS to the manufacturer to the provider. Something seems to always be incomplete. Like lets release 5.0 with a whole bunch of issues so we can get some money rolling in and just release a update when we can. Connectivity issue to me is the phone not connected. Doesn't matter if its a full moon the cause of it. I can't go to Sprint or T-Mobile because the service at home/work is minimal. Verizon is the king in my city and at&t second but at&t pre-paid doesn't have options like there post paid (wifi calling, volte, etc)

The issue is not with Motorola, it's totally and completely an issue with Verizon's system. This issue affects any non-approved phone you bring to Verizon, not just the G4. You should really direct your complaints to Verizon, post on Verizon forums, etc. Motorola can't do anything about it, as they do not have access to Verizon's activation system.
Mobile hotspot
Does the mobile hotspot work out the box for folks with unlimited data or does it require rooting to disable the carrier check?

I have a UDP, hotspot worked out of the box.
One last question, does data and voice work at the same time? It does with my moto pure, but not my nexus 5x.

Yes, it supports Verizon VoLTE (which enables simultaneous voice and data over LTE).
How was the problem solved? Having the similar issues.
Hi. Has anyone heard about Visible Wireless (https://www.bevisible.com/)? I was wondering if any body has tried activating the account on an iPhone and then move the SIM card over to your Android? I have a feeling the iPhone restrictions are just for THEIR OWN ease of support and there is really no restriction put on in the back-end and this switch would work.
I have opened an account with Visible and will find out when the SIM card arrive.
If you've tried it and it didn't work, please let me know so I can go ahead and cancel the order.
Thanks.
Have you gotten the Sim yet? Did everything work ok?

So, what happened?
Hi All... The SIM card arrived and I tried to work with VisibleWireless people via text and phone for OVER 3 WEEKS but was NOT able to activate the SIM card data portion on my iPhone 6. I can make phone calls on my iPhone but NO DATA! Switching the SIM over to an Android phone will let me make phone calls but since there's NO DATA service, there's no point. They finally gave me a refund and I canceled the account. This company IS A JOKE!

If your iphone is not compatible with VOLTE?
I have had visible for 2 months and it works as advertised.
WiFi calling is now working on S9
I love Visible. It's working like a dream so far.

I am also using it on an S9 and if you understand it ONLY works on verizon and there is no roaming you will do fine.
As an aside, I am trying to change the SIM Pin and require it at boot as an additional way to secure the phone. Visible will not, or cannot provide the default SIM Pin. Anyone know what it is?
I'm sorry. I don't.
